I was responsible for sound during filming to ensure the audience could hear the emotion and drama from the actors, as the film would not have the same effect without sound. A variety of camera shots including close ups, long shots, wide shots, panning, two shots, establishing shots, and point of view shots were used to make the film dramatic and captivating in order to draw in more viewers.

The student learned several things from completing the preliminary continuity editing task to producing their full thriller film. They learned to plan for enough shots to fill the required time, to improve smooth editing with practice, and to use more interesting locations and props. From the preliminary to the thriller, the student improved planning, editing, costumes, use of soundtrack, and incorporated a variety of shots. Overall, the group was happy with the improvements made in producing the thriller film compared to the preliminary task.

BEN HOUGHTON WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT FROM THE PRELIMINARY EXERCISE ▸ From our preliminary exercise where we had to create a simple dialogue and walking scene, we have learnt lots of different things and incorporated them into our two minute film. ▸ We learnt about the 180-degree rule and made sure we didn't cross the 180-degree line when filming the footage. ▸ When filming dialogue scenes in our film, we made sure we used shot- reverse-shot like we did in the preliminary exercise to show the two characters speaking to each other. ▸ Finally, we used match on action in our film when one of the characters was opening the door. We used the same technique as we did in our preliminary exercise.

BEN HOUGHTON WHAT WE HAVE IMPROVED AT ▸ From filming the footage of our film, we have improved at filming dialogue scenes quickly as well as doing shot-reverse-shot. ▸ We have also improved on the match on action technique such as a character opening a door. ▸ We have also improved on finding the correct shot to convey the correct meaning and link it to the genre of our film, such as a tracking shot to show a character is being followed. ▸ Finally, we have improved on the editing of the shots and making the match on action shots run smoother.
- 5. BEN HOUGHTON OTHER METHODS WE HAVE USED ▸We have also used different methods to convey the horror theme throughout our film. We used low key lighting to set a mysterious and tense atmosphere. ▸We also used different types of editing to show as sense of tension such as jump cuts when pouring drinks. ▸One final method we used differently to the preliminary task was that we used non-diegetic sound to create a dark atmosphere and a sense of panic in some parts of the film.
