Preliminary front cover.
                           In my preliminary task I showed basic conventions of a
                           magazine. The cover that I produced is very pain and
                           doesn’t say much this shows that my skills with
                           Photoshop wasn’t good enough. When creating this
                           magazine I didn’t keep in mind of my target audience you
                           can see this by the type of colours that were used, they
                           don’t stand out as much as they should as the audiences
                           were students. Students wouldn’t really be attracted
                           towards this school magazine because it looks very dull
                           and pain. The masthead doesn’t really stand out it just
                           blends in with the background which doesn’t really grab
                           the readers attention. The main image looks out of place
                           as its cropped in a bad way taking the focus away from it.
                           The front are all in different sizes not showing a common
                           flow in the front cover.
The cropping my main image there were a lot of
mistakes because of this it made the magazine look
very unprofessional. This was because I placed the
model in a busy background making it harder for me

to crop out. When cropping the image out you can
see that’s my skills on Photoshop wasn’t perfect
meaning that I had to learn more to make my music
magazine more successful than the school magazine.

For example, the main image doesn’t look
unprofessional as I didn’t crop her out
because I made the model stand behind a
clear background which made it easier for me
to use. The colours that I used are more eye
catching and fit into the genre I chose to do.
Because I used these type of colour it would
attract my target audience. Also the colours
all match the colour theme of my music
magazine. The masthead is more effective as
its red making it stand out more from the
black and white background. All the front that
I used are all the same making the magazine
flow. The language that was used in the music
magazine clearly conveys that’s it’s a music
magazine such as, ‘Amplify’ and ‘turn it up’. All
the conventions used would interest the
rock/indie audience. You can clearly see that
when I was producing this product I kept my
target audience in mind to get a successful
outcome.
The content page for the school
magazine isn't really effective. Firstly,
the images used in the context page
wasn’t photo I took myself, this doesn’t
show my photography skills. The title
‘content’ is faded away so much that
you can hardly see it because of this the
readers would find it hard to know what
the page is about. The story lines are
very simple and dull they don’t attract
the readers. The way I placed the
pictures near the story lines looks very
unprofessional because they all look out
of place. The page numbers are not in a
straight line again making it look very
unprofessional. The type of typography
used is also uninteresting as the front is
very simple. I didn’t add the date,
website or the school name.
My content page for my music magazine uses
image which I took myself. These image relate
to the type of genre I was doing making the
magazine more effective. I learned from my
preliminary task that I had to make the title
stand out more so therefore in my music
magazine I improved my skills with Photoshop
making add a dark colour to the text making it
stand out more. The colours used go with the
theme of the music magazine. These colours
used are the colour that my audience would
expect to see in their music magazine. I also
learned that to more my content page more
professional I had to make the number pages
in a line so that’s what I done in my content
page for my music magazine. I added
interesting story lines which would attract my
readers to buy the music magazine. In this
contents page I added the conventions which
is needed in a magazine which I didn’t add on
my preliminary task for example, the date,
website and the name of the magazine.
Producing my double page spread for my music magazine seemed to be the most
challenging as I didn’t have much experience with creating double page spreads. When
producing this I used all my Photoshop skills which I learned to make it look as successful
as I could for example, dividing the page into two so that it looks like a double page
spread, adding the quote on to the image and also by adding the ‘J’ behind the text
showing the important of the name of the ‘artist’. I knew all the conventions I needed to
add to make it look like a real double page spread such as, the title, date, website and
number page. The colours used are the colour scheme I was going for making the whole
music magazine effective.
