Amelia Hughes evaluated her media product and how it uses, develops, or challenges conventions of real magazines. She used bold text for the masthead to draw attention, added a banner and catching selling line. Her cover image challenges conventions by having the model look up. She utilized the left third to attract readers and included a buzzword. Headlines, pull quotes, columns, and colors were used to mimic real magazines. Overall, she learned how to make her product more professional by taking inspiration from real media and refining her layout, images, and planning.

xUnit and TDD: Why and How in Enterprise Software, August 2012Justin Gordon
“A comprehensive suite of JUnit tests is one of the most import aspects of a software project because it reduces bugs, facilitates adding new developers, and enables refactoring and performance tuning with confidence. Test-driven development (TDD) is the best way to build a suite of tests. And the Dependent Object Framework is the best way to test against database objects.” This presentation covers the benefits of TDD along with practical advice on how to implement TDD in complex projects.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Mast head Banner I have made my masthead bold to draw the readers attention straight to the name of the magazine. I have used black so the title stands out on the white background. I choose to add a banner at the top of my magazine because I think it looks effective . Selling Line Cover Image I decided to create a catching selling line as this is a factor of a real media magazine. I have purposely challenged one of the rules of conventional magazines as normally the model is using eye contact but I made her look up as the main emotion is her screaming as I think this draws the readers attention to the magazine. Left third The left third is heavily utilised, as its an effective way of attracting readers this I why I have included my main cover line in that area because I want the reader to know what the magazine contains straight away. I have also used a buzz word in the left bottom corner to again catch the readers attention Date Line Barcode
3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Headline I included a headline so people would recognise the page and what it was about before they started reading it. Pull out quotes pull quotes are used to attract the reader into reading the magazine and editors try to use a exciting part of the article which makes the reader wonder what there talking about. I also tried to do this. Introductory paragraph I wrote an introductory paragraph because it draws the audience in. I also put my Magazine title in black capitals to match my front cover. columns I have set out my text in columns because real media products all do this so it must be the most effective way to lay out text. Also i ensured my columns of my article were all equal length and width to make the magazine layout look more professional. image I have used another image to add colour and to further grab the readers attention. Colour scheme Again I stuck to 3 main colours during my double page spread. I included purple, dark red black, white and grey. I choose these colours because I thought they worked well together and would be effective. Main image my model is not using eye contact as I wanted her to look across the page at her name as I thought it would be effective, it also makes the reader want to know what's she’s thinking.
4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Pull out quotes I used a pull out quote in my contents page to the reader a bit of interesting information to make them want to read the article. columns I used columns for my contents page to make it look neat and ultimately so it would look professional. I also put any important words in red to make them stand out and also because it matched my house style. Images I used images of different people to intrigue the reader and make them want to read about them.
5. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The social group I’m representing is predominantly teenage girls as my double page spread is about a female artist and the content of it contains girly gossip. Also I have represented my artist to be carefree ,youthful and not defined by her sexuality. The genre of my music magazine is pop music. This covers a wide range of sub genres, which involve a wide variety of types of music that are currently popular with the public. The clothing my artist is wearing reflect a trendy late teenage girl and her body language shows she is quite rebellious and her facial expression shows her letting her passion and emotion out for music.
6. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I believe that my magazine is rather original, however I think that a media institution such as Vibe magazine may distribute my product as my magazine has some things in common, E.g. similar layout and also similar genre of music. The monthly music magazine Vibe was launched by Quincy Jones in 1993, in partnership with Time inc.
7. Who would be the audience for your media product? I believe my magazine is aimed at a large target audience as pop music is music that the majority of the public like. My magazine is generally aimed at both genders, however this particular issue revolves around a female artist which makes the magazine appear more feminine.
8. How did you attract/ address your audience? I attracted and addressed my target audience by creating a magazine that jumps out of the magazine stand and is eye-catching for my target audience. I did this by using bright colours and eye-catching images so that the audience would notice my magazine and flick through it making them interested and more likely to purchase it.
9. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I have learnt how to use Photoshop to edit and enhance photographs. I also learnt how to use particular techniques such as the brightness and contrast tools to help my images appear professional.
10. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? My main image wasn’t neatly cut out, I had to use a rubber to fade the edges out which wasn’t very professional. I used 3 main colours which made it look effective and professional. The magazine looks very plain and there is not much information on it. My full product looked neat and structured and was well planned. I used catchy headlines to get the readers attention. I also researched real media products to take inspiration and ideas from. I took a lot of time to cut my main image out using more advanced tools. I also took more time and thought when directing my model on the shoot. I didn’t use a date line or a selling line in the preliminary task so it looked unprofessional. It also looked thrown together as not enough planning was used. I was able to make each part of the front cover stand out as I was aware of using the left third to grab the readers attention.
