Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the
progression from it to a full product?

3. Looking back at my original front cover I can see that there are some big changes. This is because throughout the course I have
progressed and learnt new skills to help me succeed and make a better music magazine.
The college magazine masthead is very boring and generic, this is because when creating the college magazine I didn't know how to
edit text that well. But as the course progressed I picked up the skills to edit, I also learned how to add gradients, create a 3D font,
shadows and a variety of other things. This helped me to create a Masthead that stood out, also the masthead became something that
an audience member would remember, because it is different and bold
When creating the college magazine I didn't know how to edit pictures so I had to use the picture how it came, this meant that I had to
find a background that would look good in order for the magazine to look right. When creating my music magazine I had found out
how to use photoshop I learnt from practicing using the tutorials. This helped me to improve my skills when using photoshop. This
allowed me to understand how to cut pictures out, which meant that whatever background I used wouldn't matter.
Also the college magazine colours are very dull and boring, even though white is used for the text the magazine is not eye catching.
This is because I didn't do any audience research which left me with limited understanding in who I was targeting, this meant that I
didn't know the best way to approach the magazine so it would be appealing to an audience. Whereas when creating my music
magazine I researched the audience in a variety of ways. This meant that I know how to target the audience directly, meaning that I
knew that bright colours would be appealing to the target audience.
In the college magazine the model looks shy and closed off, this is because she has her hands in front of her face and she also has
her arms crossed. This isn't very appealing to the audience, that is why when creating my music magazine I made sure the model put
his hands in his pockets, this is so he would look like he had an attitude and so he looked confident, This is so teens either say ‘I want
to be him’ or ‘I want to be with him’ . This is because teens are very influenced, and this is mainly by celebrity crushes or celebrity role
models.

5. Looking at both contents pages I can see that I have made a lot of progression since the start of the course. This can be seen in a
variety of different areas, which is because I learnt new skills and managed to incorporate them into my work.
One of the biggest mistakes with the college magazine was that the page size is wrong, which is because I didn't fully understand how
to work the different technologies. Whereas my music magazine which I managed to get the perfect size to.
The college magazine isn't very interesting, which is because I didn't understand how to use photoshop and indesign properly. The
music magazine has a lot more colours incorporated within the magazine, this makes it more appealing to look at, Also the different
text points out the more important things.
Another thing that I improved on was the fact that when it came to the music magazine, I understood how to resize pictures properly,
This is so they don't looked squashed and so the quality isn't damaged, a photo like this can be seen on my college magazine. This
shows that I learnt from the mistakes I made, and I made new skills whilst doing this.
Also the college magazine does not contain enough content, this makes the magazine look like it doesn't contain much. This will
result in the magazine attracting less readers. When creating my music magazine I fixed this problem, I made sure there was more to
read and so it would look like there was a lot of information that the audience could consume.

7. When creating my college magazine I didn't make a double page spread, this made it harder for me when creating my music
magazine. This is because I hadn't tried out techniques and I didn't know what would fail. And even though I did my research my
double page spread had to be different, it had to challenge the general pop magazine layout and style.
But I had already worked with photoshop and indesign and I had made myself familiar with all of the controls, I had an understanding
on how to get things done. Which gave me an advantage and this made it easier to edit my picture, style my fonts and make the
background standout and different.
