1. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Before startingthismediaproductionIhadno previousexperience on the MAC computers and was
not familiar or confident in using them compared to a windows PC. However as I was working on
them throughout my media production and more in my spare time, I became more confident in
using them despite having at first found it difficult to operate and navigate my way through the
different software’s such as Photoshop.
I have learnthowto successfullyuse toolson Photoshop enablingme toeditmyimagesandtextand
manipulate mymediaproduct freely enabling me to have complete control to achieve the desired
effectsthroughmyproduct. Althoughsome of the more complex tools I did not manage to learn to
use,as I foundthemtodifficult andIfeltittoo time consuming to try and learn them and felt it was
not worth it. I learnt many ways on how to edit images on Photoshop, for example one technique
was by cropping the images. For example I cropped my artist in every picture and media product I
usedhiminand I feltitmade my magazine lookextremelyprofessional.Other techniques included;
blurring out the background, enhancing colour, changing colour e.g. to black and white,
manipulating photos into shapes e.g., circles. I also learnt how to overlap my image with the text
through cutting around the image using the lasso tool and adjusting the layers on Photoshop. By
learningall these differentuseful techniquesandtoolsitallowedme tocreate a professional looking
mediaproductand gave me the abilitytocreate differentconnotationsanddenotationsasIdesired.
Yet another program I had not previously used and was unfamiliar with was Blogger. Blogger is an
online blogpublishingwebsiteandservice whichallowedme togive a running commentary on each
step I took in transforming my media product from start to finish. It allowed me to show readers
directly the specific changes and progressions I had made to each part of my media product. I had
not previously used Blogger.com before and was new to writing on a blog. However I found this
quite simple and easy to pick up and after a while I was able to operate the website freely with
limitations. I eventually was able to edit the template of the blog to be more appropriate, by
widening the blog it allowed me to fit all of my large images on, e.g. large images of my final
products, frontcover, contentspage and double page spread and for the layout of all my text to be
configuredcorrectly, bywideningthe template mytextcouldgobothunderneath and to the side of
my imageswithoutlookingfragmentedanduntidy. Bloggergave me enoughfreedomto present my
workhow I wantedandoverall itallowedmy work to be organised and presented at a professional
standard.
A website Ialsousedaswell asbloggerwasPrezzi.Prezzi isanonline presentationsoftware inwhich
I usedto presentmywork and contentina creative, unique andorganisedfashion. This enabled me
to make my workmuch more excitingandenjoyable for the reader. I found this software very easy
to use and it gave me great capabilities and freedom to design my work as I wished. I had not
previouslycome acrossprezzi butpickingup the basics proved very simple and the website overall
was very simple, yet rewarding to use.
