question 4
AUDIENCE
 The audience for my media product would be
predominantly white Caucasian males and females, as
there are no ethnic minorities represented in my media
product because the genre of ’Rock’ is mostly led by white
males and females, however mainly males. I would also
suggest the age range for my target audience would
mainly be teenagers and young adults. I think certain
aspects of my magazine really target a younger more fun
audience, for example my double page spread is bright
and colourful, but at the same time not too over the top to
the point where it looks silly and unprofessional. For
example the colours gold and pink are quite fun colours
and connote this youth.
 I would suggest that my product would cater for a mixed gender audience
although it could be argued that as the images are only consisting of males, it
would appeal to a more male audience as firstly, the genre is typically
dominated by male artist and male fans. also females could perceive my
magazine in particular as too ’manly’ as there are no female artists represented
anywhere throughout the magazine meaning the magazine won’t be considered
as girly, especially seeing as the men used in the magazine are not purposely
set up to try and appeal to females, although they may still unintentionally
appeal. I tried to keep the design and colour scheme neutral for most parts to
cater for both genders with colours such as gold appealing to females more due
to the connotations of glamour and wealth, also the colour pink would also
appeal more to females. The colour black would have appealed more to men as
the colour connotes power and authority which appeals more to men. The
magazine genre appealed overall to a male majority (60:40) so I would
therefore argue that the target audience is mainly male. However by including
the male artist featured on the front cover it could appeal to females as they
may see the artist as attractive and desirable as he is a famous rock star who
cares and takes care of his appearance, as seen from the cover as we see his
hair has been styled and dyed. Therefore I would argue my magazine could
target both genders effectively allowing for an even wider target audience
appealing to more people, however ultimately white males will mainly read and
be attracted to the magazine more.
 My audience could be both working and middle class as I feel it
represents both in the product. For example middle class could
be targeted by the professional and prestige look of the
magazine, with colours such as gold being used which connotes
wealth and middle class people could aspire to be associated
with money and luxury. Also it could be argued that my magazine
would be predominantly bought by middle class males and
females because they would have to have some form of
disposable income to afford the magazine weekly and the
magazine has reference to many expensive events such as
festivals and gigs which would be mostly middle class based as
they are more likely to go to these thing than say, working class
people.
 On the other hand working class people could
be targeted as the magazine has aspects of
youthfulness and a less serious nature
meaning people of this class wouldn’t feel out
of place buying it. Also it includes some lesser
known artists which could appeal to this class.
