- 3. I carried out audience research which consisted of asking people in my target audience on their opinion of my magazine as a whole. Before I showed them my magazine I asked them what they look for in a magazine and the main responses were similar which were: “it has to appeal to me while not including too much information and also has to be clear”.They mentioned a few other things such as they would prefer the masthead to be across the page so it is clear who the magazine is by and what type of genre is it representing but that relates more to the font.They also wanted the main images of the magazine to be to a high standard and to be eye catching in order to make them want to be interested. I took this feedback into consideration when designing my cover, contents and double page spread for my magazine.
- 4. COVER PAGE In the bottom left corner I have included a barcode. My audience told me that the barcode was one of the less important features from the readers point of view as it holds no value of information relating to the genre or the story being shown. I put the sticker in the middle right hand corner to both make it more obvious to the audience what other stories are in the magazine while not taking up too much space. I decided to go with a medium shot instead of a closeup as according to my audience this is visually more appealing as a cover page as it makes it seem as though the audience knows more about him and will open up to him which relates more to the main story. I make sure that my top priority was to have the masthead across the whole page. Not only because this is what my audience wanted but also the majority of magazines which I analysed were similar showing a typical of rock genre magazine conventions. My audience wanted yo be able to clearly see what the magazine features and so I have four cover lines positioned on the right hand side of the magazine page so that the audience know exactly what other stories are in the magazine without having to keep looking around and so makes it so the main image is the main focus
- 5. CONTENTS PAGE The contents page is an important as the cover page in terms of drawing people in to read my magazine. This means that it has to be both filled with more in-depth information compared to my cover but also it needs to be clear. From my research, my audience said that the contents page should have more than one image of the main artist and so I decided to do just that by adding more images of my model making it so I have one main images and two smaller images. The layout of my contents page was one of the hardest areas of my page to get right and to a standard I wanted to get right due to me trying to make it look more unique to other rock contents pages while still trying to stay with conventions. One problem with my draft contents page was the cover lines and how the audience thought it was hard to read them and so to deal with that I decided to get rid of the silver background and make it red while changing the opacity to make it so you can still see the whole main image while still being able to read the cover lines.
- 6. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD To try and create a house-style, I decided to make it so the contents and double page spread have the same colour scheme. By doing this is also helps the audience realise that this double page spread is related to the main story.This can also be seen by the main image as well as the smaller images of the model on the other two pages. I decided to make it so my double page spread spanned across 4 pages and this to make it so that my story had more detail and would act as more of a homage to the artist while the top 2 pages were more of an introduction to the person with a main on the right and the title of the article on the left. I also decided to include some pull quotes as this relates closely to other double page spreads which have looked at and this is also to gain the attention of the audience as the pull quotes will act as an area that the audience are drawn to and will want to read the whole article just by looking at some important aspects of the article. I made sure that the audience see the main image and artists name .This is important as the whole story is about him and so making so the audience can clearly see his name and face makes it more sentimental.
