HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?

The effective combination of our music video, magazine advert and digipak has a
brand identity. A brand identity is where an institution is recognised through
their logo, sign and symbol. We used the Neapolitan ice cream colour, brown, pink
and yellow for our digipak, magazine advert and music video to create a brand
identity for our products, creating a constant theme. This would enable our target
audience to recognise our product through this brand identity. We also used the
same font for our magazine advert and digipak to create a brand identity and to
keep a constant theme to it throughout. From analysing the Mumford and Sons
magazine, they used the same font throughout their albums that this is their
brand identity and this is how their target audience would recognise them through
this particular sign. We subverted the typical indie genre by adding the
Neapolitan ice cream colour, these colours would not really be used in an indie
genre but the pink and yellow might have been used instead for the pop genre
rather than indie genre, the brown colour may fit in with the genre as this is a
normal casual colour. We used this idea from the Jessie J digipak as she had used
black, which is used more in rock genre rather than an indie genre, this shows
how she had subverted from the typical pop genre colours. We also subverted from
the indie genre by making the back panel the colour black, this would be seen in
the rock genre, but we did this so that it would attract our target audience’s
attention and encourage them to buy it. Furthermore, we included a CD, where
the audience are able to sing along to the song, this will make the audience
purchase it further and sell easily as people like the idea of the extra feature
added to it making the digipak more interesting.
Another unique selling point which we had added
to our magazine advert is the barcode, which we
have put in the right hand corner; we have also
added it to the digipak. When this is scanned
through any smart phones this will lead to an
exclusive photo shop, this may attract our target
audiences attention and want to make them buy
it further. We have used images on our magazine
advert, which might attract to them, as they may
be given an insight in to the artists personal life
through her facial expressions, as this needs to
stand out in populated music industry.
The images which we have used for our digipak
and magazine advert will communicate the genre
of our music video. The front cover of our digipak
shows the artist is in a park, with trees and grass
this relates to the indie genre as the setting may
be one of the conventions of an indie genre.
Another image shows our artist with a guitar,
which is another convention of an indie genre.
We also used black and brown for our font which
helped us stay true to our indie genre. We have
also used images showing our singer happy and
smiling showing the audience that she has
another personality side to her other than the
emotional one that the audience had already
seen.

  • 1. EVALUATION QUESTION 2 HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS? Done by Razia Sultana
  • 2. The effective combination of our music video, magazine advert and digipak has a brand identity. A brand identity is where an institution is recognised through their logo, sign and symbol. We used the Neapolitan ice cream colour, brown, pink and yellow for our digipak, magazine advert and music video to create a brand identity for our products, creating a constant theme. This would enable our target audience to recognise our product through this brand identity. We also used the same font for our magazine advert and digipak to create a brand identity and to keep a constant theme to it throughout. From analysing the Mumford and Sons magazine, they used the same font throughout their albums that this is their brand identity and this is how their target audience would recognise them through this particular sign. We subverted the typical indie genre by adding the Neapolitan ice cream colour, these colours would not really be used in an indie genre but the pink and yellow might have been used instead for the pop genre rather than indie genre, the brown colour may fit in with the genre as this is a normal casual colour. We used this idea from the Jessie J digipak as she had used black, which is used more in rock genre rather than an indie genre, this shows how she had subverted from the typical pop genre colours. We also subverted from the indie genre by making the back panel the colour black, this would be seen in the rock genre, but we did this so that it would attract our target audience’s attention and encourage them to buy it. Furthermore, we included a CD, where the audience are able to sing along to the song, this will make the audience purchase it further and sell easily as people like the idea of the extra feature added to it making the digipak more interesting.
  • 3. Another unique selling point which we had added to our magazine advert is the barcode, which we have put in the right hand corner; we have also added it to the digipak. When this is scanned through any smart phones this will lead to an exclusive photo shop, this may attract our target audiences attention and want to make them buy it further. We have used images on our magazine advert, which might attract to them, as they may be given an insight in to the artists personal life through her facial expressions, as this needs to stand out in populated music industry.
  • 4. The images which we have used for our digipak and magazine advert will communicate the genre of our music video. The front cover of our digipak shows the artist is in a park, with trees and grass this relates to the indie genre as the setting may be one of the conventions of an indie genre. Another image shows our artist with a guitar, which is another convention of an indie genre. We also used black and brown for our font which helped us stay true to our indie genre. We have also used images showing our singer happy and smiling showing the audience that she has another personality side to her other than the emotional one that the audience had already seen.
