1. How effective is the combination
of your main product and
ancillary text?
Evaluation Question 2
2. Real Products
When it comes to pop stars, what they do is rely
in their star image. The reason for this is so the
pop star is able to sell their music but also being
able to maintain a consistent image across their
music videos, magazine adverts and digipaks.
3. Influenced by real media products
Tinie Tempah influenced our digipak and our magazine advert. This reason for this is
because that Tinie Tempah is showing his face on the front cover, this is selling the
artiest because he is showing himself to the world through his digipak. This is the
reason why on our digipak we chose to put my face on the front to help sell my music
as a famous artiest and not someone which is shy to hide my face.
4. My Digipak
We wanted our digipak to reflect a real life real life digipak whilst also incorporating
the urban themes of our music videos. For the front of our digipak we used a
silhouette of a man walking, which is reflective of the song which we created a music
video for, walk. We also included the artists name on the front cover, which is a
convention of many albums. we used a picture of 'London' for parts of our digipak this
would be visually appealing to the audience and also gives our digipak a professional
look. The inside of our digipak has a picture of me overlooking a town, this urban
environment provides a contrast against the clean look of the city, we incorporated
this contrast in our music video so we wanted it reflected on the digipak. The picture
of me also makes the digipak feel more personal to the audience.
5. Process
• At the start of creating our digipak and magazine advert, me and Ross had
to do a bit of research. The reason for this was so we were able to discover
the best ways to advertise our music video.
• During the research phase we had a look at other pop stars and bands
which would help influence us on making a digipak and magazine advert.
• Both me and Ross went onto Google images to have a look at digipaks, the
reason for this is because we were not very filmier on what a digipak looks
likes.
6. Digipak template
Me and Ross went onto Google to
look for Digipak template. This was
to be able to guide us though
making our our digipak when it
came to it.
7. Magazine Advert
For our magazine advert, we did research into
what a typical magazine advert for an album
looked like. to do this we looked at magazines
like NME and looked at adverts found in
entertainments stores like HMV. We found that
most magazine adverts featured either the
artist or had an appearance similar to the
album. We decided that our magazine advert
would have a similar appearance to the album
cover so that audiences could easily recognize
them. We also decided to include reviews from
reputable sources like 'the guardian' and 'NME'
so that the audience knew that the album was
of a high quality. Our magazine advert also has
a simple look so that the audiences focus is on
the title of the album, and the audience are
likely to be drawn towards it.
8. Combination of Products
In conclusion we believe that our main product and ancillary texts
are an effective combination as they share similar themes and
have a professional look. Both the album cover and the magazine
advert are also reflective of real life media text, as shown in the
examples given. We developed our magazine advert and digipak
based on the feedback we had received from fellow classmates
and from sites like 'survey monkey' where we could convey our
products to a larger audience. The feedback we received was
mostly positive, with many comparing it to real life products,
however we received some criticism such as the image being
stretched for the album cover and the stars not being the same
size on the magazine advert, so we were able to fix this before we
finished the products.
