2 - How does your media
product represent particular
       social groups?
Representations As my magazine is based around the whole
Britpop/Madchester genre of music, I need to get the
representations of my social groups right.

There are various ways of getting to the right social
 groups that I am after:

 • Through the use of language - I used slang and
more informal terms in order to be able to reach
an audience who I knew would understand
   what was being said.

 • I knew that my main audience was Male
Teenagers & Young Adults, so I represented
them through colours, images and articles.

 • The colours I used were quite dark and gritty,
but also there were hints of brighter colours,
particularly red, white & blue - the magazine
being BRITpop and aimed at BRITISH artists.

 • There is hardly any women featured in the
magazine - showing the audience is mainly
males, as not many women would buy a
   magazine like this.

The articled I created has represented the
teens/young adults as a ‘misunderstood’ group of
people, often stereotyped as being anti-social.
