Researched & Analysed Existing Products




                                          When analyzing music
                                          video advertisements and
                                          Cd covers in the R&B/pop
                                          genre, holistically the main
                                          focus was on the artists;
                                          the artist was always
                                          clearly presented to the
                                          audience.
So sticking to this convention my
ancillary tasks both keep to this
approach and therefore has the
artists full face, up close and
personal            to         the
audience, however challenging
and exploring this convention of
having the artist quit natural/
realistic looking for my magazine
advertisement and CD front cover
I added a quirky almost cartoon
effect, with loud bold colors.
All of my products use direct mode of address, also
stick to the rule of thirds, the magazine
advertisement where the lines integrate are her
eyes, also in the primary optical area it states the
most important information ‘New music video’ this is
what the advert is advertising. And in the terminal
area is the extra information the artist the song title
and the date it is released. The front cover of the CD
the image is an extreme close up which fills the CD
cover, however the majority of her face is in the
primary optical area and in the weak fallow area, with
the her name in the terminal area. The back cover
uses the rule of thirds, where two f the lines
integrate is her eye, and the text is again in the
terminal area, according to Guttenberg the eyes are
first drawn to the primary optical area and then
reading gravity pulls the eyes down to the terminal
These conventions and technical codes that I have used in my ancillary products translate to my main product
because my music video is predominantly performance, so the artist is using allot of direct mode of address and
singing to the camera/audience, this relates to my ancillary tasks as they use direct mode of address and all use
and image of the artist face either front on or slightly to the side. Also the song title is set dire to the rain, so i
have used connotations from the word fire, such as red, fierce, to base my ancillary products around, for example
the red hair and the fierce looking image, also the orange colour on the cd, and the red lip on the back of the cd
cover. The ancillary products and the music video work together well as they hold the same connotations and
meanings, for example an independent well held woman and the fire connotations linking with the song, the
colour of the Cd cover the front cover mainly red, the back cover black and white with red lips which links with
the black and white shots that run through the video and also the cd disk which is prominently orange which
links with the sepia tones and fire through out the video also.

  • 1. Researched & Analysed Existing Products When analyzing music video advertisements and Cd covers in the R&B/pop genre, holistically the main focus was on the artists; the artist was always clearly presented to the audience.
  • 2. So sticking to this convention my ancillary tasks both keep to this approach and therefore has the artists full face, up close and personal to the audience, however challenging and exploring this convention of having the artist quit natural/ realistic looking for my magazine advertisement and CD front cover I added a quirky almost cartoon effect, with loud bold colors.
  • 3. All of my products use direct mode of address, also stick to the rule of thirds, the magazine advertisement where the lines integrate are her eyes, also in the primary optical area it states the most important information ‘New music video’ this is what the advert is advertising. And in the terminal area is the extra information the artist the song title and the date it is released. The front cover of the CD the image is an extreme close up which fills the CD cover, however the majority of her face is in the primary optical area and in the weak fallow area, with the her name in the terminal area. The back cover uses the rule of thirds, where two f the lines integrate is her eye, and the text is again in the terminal area, according to Guttenberg the eyes are first drawn to the primary optical area and then reading gravity pulls the eyes down to the terminal
  • 4. These conventions and technical codes that I have used in my ancillary products translate to my main product because my music video is predominantly performance, so the artist is using allot of direct mode of address and singing to the camera/audience, this relates to my ancillary tasks as they use direct mode of address and all use and image of the artist face either front on or slightly to the side. Also the song title is set dire to the rain, so i have used connotations from the word fire, such as red, fierce, to base my ancillary products around, for example the red hair and the fierce looking image, also the orange colour on the cd, and the red lip on the back of the cd cover. The ancillary products and the music video work together well as they hold the same connotations and meanings, for example an independent well held woman and the fire connotations linking with the song, the colour of the Cd cover the front cover mainly red, the back cover black and white with red lips which links with the black and white shots that run through the video and also the cd disk which is prominently orange which links with the sepia tones and fire through out the video also.
