In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?

For my music video, I wanted it to appeal to the target audience something will interest
them. I went for the theme ‘nightlife’ as most of the audience preferred
commercial/mainstream music. The conventions of the music video are dancing, having a
good time with friends and also lots of different lightings as the different colour changes
represent the mood of the characters in the music video. The aspects of my music video
which inspired me were the Chemical Brothers - ‘Galvanize’ with the clowns as the main
characters. The song ‘Galvanize’ is the same genre as the song ‘Bonkers’ so I tried to make
the music video fast pace which matches up with the song but also have slow motion shots
whenever the song changes the pace and the tone.

The inspiration I got from the music video ‘Galvanize’ with the two main characters as
clowns and another clown as an extra. The first two shots that I filmed are similar to the
‘Galvanize’ video as both are walking out in a building. Their faces are painted as clowns but
I challenged the conventions by adding colour to their faces and using the effect on iMovie
‘adjust colours’ to see the colours but the background is black and white. The effect of this
is that the characters stand out as they are seen as important.

                                      Post-Production

At the beginning of my music video, I took shots of cars on the motorway and also filmed
inside the car in the first caption. This is has conventions because in a typical music video
that has a dance theme/genre has clips of cars in the motorway or filmed inside a car in fast
motion. The lighting was important because usually different kinds of lights are shown in
music video. The clips that I filmed had blue and yellow lights and also the colours from the
traffic lights.

In Roll Deep’s video ‘Good Times’, they have shots and clips inside of car, which go in fast
motion. This matched up with the conventions because in most dance videos they have clips
of cars and lights which are suitable for the song and genre. The mise-en-scene for both of
these captions is basically the cars driving on the roads, surrounded by big buildings and
lights which is similar to my shots. The conventions that I challenged were that the Roll
Deep video and typical dance videos are that they are filmed in the city whereas where I
filmed my shots, it was in a town.

                                      In my magazine
                                      advertisement, the
                                      conventions I included
were the positive quotes from different newspapers
and magazines. I also the date of when the album
comes out and the website as that is included as
                                      advertising.
The advertisement of the websites I added the copyright sign
