3. Images
Most music magazine that I have looked at feature a
mix of male and female artists in their contents page
images, images that are fitted together and ones that
each have a slightly different tone/filter on them.
For my contents page images I tried to make every
photograph look different in a way. For my first image I
took photographs of a live band. I wanted to use a live
band in my magazine to connote a sense of excitement
and energy that is associated with gigs. My second
image is a close up of an acoustic female artist playing
guitar I added this image as it broadened my target
audience and uses conventions of a music magazine.
My other images are set up shots of models. The
model in the black and white image is made to look
chilled and relaxed which is typical of music magazines,
especially indie music magazines.
4. Font
My choice of fonts carry on from the front cover of
the magazine which ensures continuity. The
masthead is set out in the same way as the
masthead from the front in the way that the first
letter is larger than the rest and some of the letters
are joined. I also used the same font; Trebuchet MS.
Although I did want to use Bebas Neue for the
masthead but I was unable to get download it.
I did this to challenge the conventions of music
magazine as most magazines do not follow their the
front cover masthead font in to their contents page,
however I did this as I wanted to have as much
continuity in my magazine as I could and to further
show the brand identity.
I also used Tw Cen MT Condensed and Tahoma fonts
in my magazine. These fonts look very neat and
fresh, they are easy to read and make navigating the
page relaxing for the reader.
5. Language
In the magazines I looked at, the information
underneath the feature title was no more than 3
lines long, was a bit humorous, but was straight
to the point. I developed this convention as I
tried not to be straight to the point but instead
intrigue the reader into turning to the page to
find out what the feature is about. However I did
use the convention of sticking to 3 lines
maximum and being a bit jokey.
I also added an editors section in my contents
page which come up in other music magazines
like CLASH and The Fly. The mode of address they
use in these sections are usually quite formal and
informative so I used this convention as it is a
great way to get information across easily.
