2. Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
The main ways in which our media product uses, develops forms and
conventions of other real media products are with:
Our use of colours and lighting.
Our use of many shots.
Passion of the artist.
3. Use of colours and lighting
When creating our music video, we knew we needed to make it very colourful and
vibrant. This is so that our audience doesn’t get bored, and also targets our target
audience.
As you can see here, we utilized a wide range of effects, such as the water lights
and even a smoke machine to make it very vibrant and effective.
We had did a lot of research of the 80’s and found that they tend to use a lot of
colour, therefore we wanted to use it also. In addition, we researched many
successful music videos and a correlating factor is that they are all very colourful.
We also wanted to implement the use of lasers as well. This is because lasers were
very prominent within the 80’s, therefore we wanted to include it so our video so
it would be easier for our audience to understand.
4. Use of many shots
The use of shots in our music video is very effective, this is because we have a
wide range and variety of shots throughout the whole music video.
As you can see, we used a variety of shots which include, long shots, extreme
close-ups, close ups, high angles and many more. We made sure to keep the
camera moving around the room as well as we wanted movement in our music
video, this will lead our music video to be very active and not so boring and
standstill.
In addition, having many different many shots within music videos is very
conventional, because they want to make sure that the audience is entertained,
therefore we wanted to include it in ours as well to make it professional.
5. Passion of the artist
When creating our music video, we knew that we needed to make it realistic.
One way of doing this was by making sure that our artist is taking it very
seriously, and is acting that he is actually singing that song.
By the screenshots you can tell that our artist was very passionate and realistic.
This was very effective as it shows that were are not only serious about this, but
also very professional.
Many other music videos want to show their passion for their music as well, this
is because it gives them a good image in the public eye, it shows them as taking
this seriously and putting their all into the song.
Therefore we wanted to make sure our artist was doing the same, because with
keeping brand image in mind, it would make our artist seem much more humble
and professional.
6. Inspiration (Real music video)
Major Lazer – Light it Up (feat. Nyla &
Fuse ODG)
Although this is not our sole inspiration for our song, it was definitely one of
the biggest.
The reason this was one of the biggest ones was because how unique and
different it was, in addition it had many of the elements in which we wanted
to include in our music video.
This included things like colours, there are so many different colours and
scenes in this music video, and we knew we wanted to implement it into ours
as well.
Furthermore, the movement of the camera was another thing we wanted to
implement, and we did to make it more interesting and active.
Moreover, the different shapes was another thing we wanted to implement,
this made this video so unique and different, so we also wanted ours to be
like that.
7. Magazine advert
With our magazine advert, we wanted to portray our theme and genre right off
the bat.
I think we were very effective with this as we used a lot of things to portray
them. One of them being the colours. The use of vibrant colours is very similar
to the 80’s era therefore we wanted to use lots to convey that theme.
In addition, the lasers and shapes emphasise this theme, because many 80’s
magazine adverts utilized many shapes and lasers in their adverts.
Moreover, there is a big picture of the main artist in the middle of the frame to
show that he is important and we want our audience to remember his face.
Lastly, we made sure to use lots of reviews and put the record labels at the
bottom along with the website, this makes the magazine advert seem very
professional and effective.
8. Digipak
When creating our digipak, we wanted to make sure that not only
was it easy to identify our genre and theme, but also see the
correlation between our music video and magazine advert.
We showed this in many ways, which include using the same colour
scheme as our music video and advert, therefore the audience
knew this was part of the same project.
Furthermore, we used the same font in all 3 forms of media, and
also the lights and shapes. All these factors help the audience
realise that this is part of the project along with the advert and
music video.
We also decided to put two very iconic images (for the 80’s) in our
digipak which is the silhouette and the 80’s camera, as these things
were very prominent in the 80’s, we also put images of those in our
music video as we thought it would be more beneficial in helping
the audience understand the theme of our digipak, advert and
music video.
9. Inspiration (80’s Synthpop)
Our inspiration for our digipak and magazine advert came from the Synthpop
genre itself.
As you can see from the screenshots, synthpop uses a wide variety of different
colours, therefore we wanted to make sure to emphasise that in all our medias,
I believe we did an effective job in potraying the fact that our theme was the
80’s.
The font in synthpop are all very vibrant and wacky, we did the same with our
font and made it very bright and also very wacky.
The use of shapes and lasers is very evident here as well. These are very iconic
to the 80’s sort of theme, therefore we knew we wanted to add it into our
music video as well.
