4. Overall Themes Of Our Music Video
Concept and general themes: The main idea of our music video is to represent the life
of the main character whom is in the video. Throughout the video it follows a concept
of the artist being high on drugs, at the beginning of the video we see that she is
happy and towards the end we then see her downfall and how she becomes not so
happy. Throughout the whole music video we watch her go on a high to low journey.
The whole Concept of our video is the show the concept of drugs and what it does to
you, whereas our artist is so happy in the beginning of the video then towards the end
has a break up with her boyfriend and takes drugs. Her break up with her boyfriend
isn’t clear until the end of our video when we see her really down and we see her
burning photos of them two together. This is all relatable to our target audience as all
teenagers go through this sort of thing of being up and down all the time and
breaking up in relationships. Also drugs fit the stereotypes of teens as well as it is
portrayed as a thing that teens do, therefore our music video fits very well with the
target audience we are aiming at.
5. Images
The images that we used within our digipak and our magazine advert emphasise our theme
that we wanted to create of bright and colourful colours. The most dominant colour that we use
and are trying to emphasise is pink and you see this through our digipak and magazine advert
and it is also used throughout our music video. By mostly using images of our star it promotes
our artist to the song as she is on both the digipak and the magazine advert, this shows that she
is the main star. This allows our artist to be known for the song and this will help us with publicity
and it is a way of promoting the artist getting her out there and our production company also.
6. Location
We used a variety of different locations in our music video. We found that one of our
most used locations was Gods Own Junkyard in London. The reason this was one of our
most used locations was because it fitted very well with the theme of our music video.
The whole theme we wanted to go by was bright and colourful and this place was very
bright and colourful and just fitted our music video perfectly. Also when we travelled up
to London to go to this location we also found lots of new different locations that we
managed to add into our music video for a nice finishing touch. We really benefited from
going here as not only did we go to one location specifically but we found many more on
the way where we managed to get some good footage. We also filmed in an arcade
towards the beginning of the video to show her happiness and then towards the end of
the video the theme of it being colourful and bright dies down a lot. As the video goes
through a mood change towards the end for this part of the video we filmed a lot of this
in a local park in the dark showing our artist depressed and how her life's changed and
this really went with the end of our song as it is not so happy at the end.
7. Production Company
We decided not to use our production company name in our digipak or our magazine
advert as we wanted to focus them both on purely the song itself. We didn't think it would
relevant to add it as it we wanted our audience to focus predominantly on the song itself.
We mainly focused on the song name and the artists name to make a statement to our
audience that the song is the most important to get out there. Even though we have not
included our production name you can clearly see that our digipak and magazine advert
link together and they manage to link very well with our music video itself. This will tell
the audience straight away that these two go together. Therefore we didn't feel that it
was relevant to add our production company to our digipak and magazine advert.
8. Digipak Evaluation
Throughout the digipak we
decided to stick to a bright
and colourful theme which
also is portrayed
throughout our music
video also. The most
dominate colour you see
here is pink.
All of the images that we used here for the digipak were
all taken separately to the music video. Meaning we did
not pictures directly from the music video. As a group we
thought that this would be a lot better to do this rather
than just take pictures from our music video. We all
agreed that it looks a lot more professional this way.
On the front cover of our
digipak we have decided to
use a picture of the main
artist, this promotes her to the
song. We also used this image
for the magazine advert as she
is the artist we need to
portray, she is the only
important person throughout
our music video therefore we
need to show this.
The font we used for our
digipak is the same font
that we used for our
magazine advert. We
chose the same font so
that it is relatable to the
magazine advert.
Although on the
magazine advert we
made the font bigger so it
stands out. Because the
font needs to stand out
more on the magazine
advert than it needs to
on the digipak.
The pictures that we chose
to include in our digipak
really show of our stars
image and style well. We
decided to do this as you
can clearly see in the
pictures that she is cool
stylish young girl and this
would make the audience
want to watch the music
video as our artist is the
type of person you would
want to see in a music
video.
We chose to feature our artist and our main location
on most of the digipak. The reason for this being is to
show our artists importance to our music video and to
promote her as an artist. All of our pictures are taken
at our main location throughout our music video ‘gods
own junkyard’ this will attract a lot of young people as
this is a cool place filled with lots of funky neon lights.
9. Magazine Advert Evaluation
We chose to use the artist as the
image on our magazine advert in order
to show her importance in our music
video. Whereas she is the main artist
in our video we wanted the audience
to focus on her the minute they look at
our magazine advert.
The font we used in our magazine
advert is the same font that we have
used for our digipak also. The reason
for this is because we wanted the
same font so that you could easily link
the magazine advert to the digipak and
we didn't want to confuse anyone. If
we was to have another font this could
be distracting for the audience and this
is what we did not want.
We wanted to make our font slightly
bigger on the magazine advert to
make it stand out to the audience.
The minute you look at our magazine
advert you can see that our song is
called ‘Stay High’ and you can also see
straight away who it is by ‘Tove Lo’.
Our main image was also taken at
one of our main locations in the
music video ‘gods own junkyard’.
Therefore this is also linking it back
to our music video.
We also included on the magazine advert
reviews from well known music institutions.
For example spotify is a well known music
downloading app therefore this will attract all
sorts of different audiences as people are
aware of these music institutions and it will
attract them to our music video.
Also we chose to put the ‘out now’ in capital
letters to emphasise to the audience that the song
is out now to buy. By putting this in capitals the
audience can clearly see that the song is out right
now and they do not have to wait to listen to it.
