Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
Evaluation Q7:
By Harriet Broadley
 This is a key aspect of having a good magazine which I didn’t fully
understand when experimenting with the preliminary task. However when
making my music my magazine, the Housestyle was carefully thought about.
 The preliminary task lacked proper layout and planning however I learnt to
use a style model to help with the layout and make sure all things are
included. My magazine now has a barcode, quotes, freebees and a proper
layout.
 The colour schemes and fonts are clearly continued throughout my new
magazine using the same fonts and margins.
Housestyle
 The text and fonts I have now used in my opinion, has developed the
most.
 The main issue with the preliminary front cover and contents has the
cover lines and text all being the same fonts and so having no contrast
with each role they have to play. For example the font for the
headline-’contents’ was the same as the text below it for article
titles. This shows no difference between the two. With the final
product there is more variety I in color, font and size so this is more
appealing to the reader.
 I have learnt here to put more effort and research in to examples of
magazines to look into what conventions magazines portray.
Text and Fonts
 The main rule in magazine conventions is to only use 3 main colours. In my
preliminary task, my main colours were red and white and the third too
hard to identify. In my final magazine however, they are black, white and
yellow.
 I’ve learnt that its important to magazines to make sure these 3 colours are
easy to identify as the reader in order for a more sophisticated colour
scheme. Otherwise the design would look messy and unattractive to the
reader.
 I’ve also learnt that it’s important for my magazine colours to symbolize
something. For example the yellow portrays the happy, positive tone of my
magazine and also the pop genre.
Colour
 Well, I’ve learnt a lot about technology. Especially those macs.
 I learnt to use a green screen as a background which helped to add another
magazine convention of putting the text behind the model using final cut
pro on the macs.
 In my school magazine I used my phone to take the picture of the model
therefore lacking quality in the image and looking messing therefore the
readers losing interest in the magazine. My final magazine I used a proper
camera for the images so I got a high definition picture.
 I also only used pixlr express with the first magazine which limited me to only
using on layer however in my music magazine I used more software like pixlr
editor, express, final cut pro and even word for my double spread which
meant I was less limited to one resource and more capable of developing the
magazine.
Technology
 To conclude; I like I have come along way and learnt loads of new skills
especially with technology so I am more knowledgeable and able to do more
things to produce better magazines after the mistakes I’ve made with the
preliminary task.
Conclusion
