Question 7
1. Question 7- Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learned in the progression
from it to the final product?
2. This is my front cover and contents page for my preliminary task which was based on
a school magazine. Before I created it I made a mock up so I could map out what I
was going to do before I went onto Photoshop. I made some changes when I began
to edit on Photoshop so I could make it as realistic as possible. I hardly made changes
to the contents page. I did like the colours I used because it wasn’t too bright or too
dull. I also kept the house style consistent just like a real magazine will do. I think that
there was room for improvement for my school magazine because the front cover
doesn’t look appealing to me and it slightly looks childish; especially with the font I
used.
3. As you can see this is my front page for my school magazine and my front page for my music
magazine. There is clear comparison between the two. I feel that my final front page of my
music magazine looks more realistic compared to my school magazine. I can also see the
disparity between the mastheads; Reload looks more realistic and suited for my target
audience as oppose to school swag that has two different fonts which looks a bit childish. I
prefer the colour used in my music magazine, the red portrays power and dominance which
makes it more enticing for my target audience. Lastly, I have placed a barcode, date and price
in a conventional way as oppose to my school magazine that doesn’t have a barcode. I think
that I have gained a fair amount of knowledge on how to navigate and use tools in
Photoshop which has successfully helped me create my front page for my music magazine.
4. This is my contents page for my school magazine and my music magazine. I have showed
progression from the school magazine to the music magazine, I have filled up most of the
white space and have added more features. I have also added a range of pictures with
different camera angles so it doesn’t look boring and to also make it more attractive for the
reader. I think that the contents page for my school magazine looks a bit childish because
of the font, it doesn’t look appealing.
Moreover, I think that I have improved my skills on editing that is why my contents page
for my music magazine looks better and well suited for my genre (hip hop). It also looks
cool and I prefer my layout compared to my school contents page.
5. Overall what have I learned?
I think that this coursework task has helped me improve on IT skills and also
has introduced me to new forms of technology I wouldn’t think of using.
I have seen progression from my preliminary task to final product because of
my skills to innovate and learn new things. I also think that I have
progressed because of the time given for the completion of the
coursework. The time has given me a chance to explore and see what I
could improve on. If I was given more time I would explore even more and
try to improve my final product e.g. Making a double page contents page.
Furthermore, I have learned about different institutions that distribute
magazines and other forms of media e.g. ABC and Bauer media group. This
has helped me gain an insight of what to expect if you want them to
distribute your products, for example creating a magazine on a
genre/theme that has a gap in the market. This would most likely appeal
to them as this could make them a large profit.
