Q1: In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
Amie Hughes 12AGT
Frame one;
My Masthead shares similarity with the Q masthead as they have large letters in
the Red box and a small sub title underneath the letter. Both boxes are red but are
different the Q masthead box is brighter and my text is black and Q’s is white. Also
mine has text which connects to the large title so it isn’t just R it is Real Rock. This is
both using and developing conventions of real media texts.
Frame two:
My contents page and Q’s contents page are alike I based my
contents page around Q’s as it looked professional and looked really
good. I changed the font, size and the actual text to fit my music
magazine, my text is also larger and bolder and has detail. The colours
are also similar but I made my colours darker so it suited my magazine
this is also an example of me using and developing media texts.
Frame three:
My contents page also includes a Review Column like the Q contents
page, it makes it more interesting and is a nice extra to add as it gives
more to read about rather than just titles and page numbers, it has a
photo which is the same size as the text box which looks quite interesting,
mine is more plain than the Q review box as it hasn’t got a date or caption
or anything.
Frame Four
My Double page spread was based upon the NME contents
page as it is different and bold, I kept the red and black colour
scheme But I made the title bold and eye catching just like
NME and I also set the columns up so there was three so it
looked pretty basic but professional, also the picture in some
ways are similar I chose the dark coloured and patterned
clothing to fit the alternative theme also the different sort of
pose with her prop which is the guitar which made it my own
twist.
Frame Five:
The subtitles and photos on my cover were based on Q magazine I
thought the mid-close up shot of the face looked good as well as the
subtitles on the text the colours are similar but mine are completely red
where as some of Q’s are white I chose red because it stood out from the
blue denim colour, I copied the idea of the bold name on the front cause
it is eye catching and draws the reader in. This is proof that I used and
developed media texts.
Frame Six:
I liked how Q put Adele at an angle so I did the same but Adele is looking
at the camera where as ‘Felicity’ is looking away and looks as if she is
looking at her heading so it makes the title stand out more, I used the same
sort of title for her I put the white box with the red page number and dark
text. This is me using media texts.
Frame Seven:
All of my titles were based upon actual magazine titles. The colour schemes
were relatively similar but are different, the fonts are Bolder in some areas
where as in some places the text isn’t bold but its larger so it stands out more.
I took the ideas of the original titles and developed them further to adapt my
magazine and the theme of it.
