After receiving feedback on their initial music video from classmates, the student learned that they could improve it by adding more shots, angles, and better background images. They also agreed to add more transitional effects. Based on this feedback, they reshoot certain scenes and added more editing techniques like swipes. When they showed the improved video, they received positive feedback on the narrative scenes, use of props, lip syncing, and minimal editing. For the ancillary tasks, feedback helped them recognize how the pieces could better link together and to the video. After making changes, respondents felt the ancillary tasks and video worked well overall for their target audience.

3. After gaining feedback my group and I decided to make some improvements
on the video. We learnt that people thought we could do with more shots
and angels and better background images, when looking back at the video
we agreed with the feedback. We also agreed that we need to add so
transitional effects such as swipes.
Improvements Made
At the beginning we had taken shots of our main artist walking down a flight
of stairs and falling asleep on a bench. The surrounding area was very messy
and did not look good in our video at all and so we decided to scrap the
whole scene as we thought it was unnecessary. Instead of this we decided to
take more shots of surrounding areas and of our main artist walking in
central London, here we used more angels and different shots.
We also later decided to reshoot a scene where the lip synch was not to the
best standard , thus making our music video look more professional.
After we finished reshooting footage we then decided to add more editing
techniques such as swipes and dip to black.
After making all the improvements we saw a huge change in our music
video. The feedback was crucial because without it we would not have been
able to make the changes we made in order to improve our music video.

4. After we had completely finished our video we then showed it to our class
again and asked the following questions:

What would you change in the video?
We received a lot of feedback on their thoughts.
For question one we received a range of positive comments.
Here are some of the comments we received:
‘I like the way you’ve done the narrative based scenes in black and white’
‘Using the helium balloons was a clever idea and fits well with the song’
‘The lip synch was in tune and looked professional’
‘I like the way you have kept the editing techniques simple and to a
minimum, it relates to your genre’
‘The video links very well to the lyrics of the song’
For question two we also received a range of feedback, here are a few:
‘I would have used a better background for the performance scenes’
‘I would have added more zoom-ins and zoom-outs’
‘Used long shots for the performance scenes’
‘Would have taken the park scenes on a brighter day’

5. Audience feedback on ancillary tasks
We received feedback from our first draft of the ancillary tasks,
which we then changed. We recognised a large change in the
ancillary tasks, we also recognised that they linked together better
than they did before we had made the improvements which also
allowed them to link better to the music video.
After making the improvements I asked the same people what they
now thought of the ancillary texts.

These are some of the replies I received:
‘I think the ancillary tasks link very well together, especially as you
have used the same image on the front and back of the CD cover but
of her front and back. I also like the way you have made one of the
inlay cards black and white as this links with the CD covers. The
music magazine is kept simple which links with the rest of the
ancillary tasks. I think that they have good effect overall, and reach
out to the right target audience. However, if I could change
anything, I think I would add the lyrics of the song onto the green

6. Another person said:
‘I do think the ancillary tasks link well to some extent. I think they look good
overall. Although there could be a few changes. Firstly, I would make the artist
look directly at the camera, making direct address with the audience to make
them feel more involved. I would also add a few more special effects to the
images to make them stand out more, and with the magazine advert I would
add a bit more text or another image to fill in the gaps. With this being said, I
think overall it looks good and maybe having kept it simple is the right way but
maybe could have added just a little more’
The feedback I had now received was much better than before and people were
much more pleased with the overall result, this was a good sign as the people I
questioned were people of my target audience. Knowing we had pleased our
target audience left my group and I pleased with our work. With this being
said, we also understood what we could have done to further improve our
ancillary texts.
