Our music video adheres to conventions of the soul/jazz genre through simple costumes, makeup, and a focus on lyrics over visuals. However, we challenge some conventions by using many close-ups to show emotion and a mix of performance and narrative shots rather than being purely performance-based. We conform to stereotypes of portraying a single female artist in a non-sexual way and using natural lighting and on-location filming but subvert expectations through some narrative elements. In conclusion, our music video both develops and challenges some conventions of real soul/jazz music videos.

Back cover step by step
- 1. We chose this image for the back cover as we wanted it to look as though it is the same image from the front cover but of her back instead. We first opened the image in the dimensions of: 4.75 x 4.75 inches. We then used the magnetic lasso tool to go round the balloons and then copy and paste the balloons into a new layer. We then went back to the image and made it black and white by clicking on gradient map, by doing this it changed the main image into black and white but left the copied balloons in colour.
- 2. We then went on to adding the text of the songs, we chose this font as we thought it went well with both the image and the genre as it gives it a sophisticated yet simple look. We chose for the typography to be white as we thought it went well with the rest of the image, we then added a stroke to the font to make it stand out more and easily readable.
- 3. We then went on to adding the barcode and the production information. We chose to link these together with lines going across as this made it look more neat and brought together.
- 4. Finally, we added the artist’s website, we did this by adding white blocks behind it in order to make it more visible and clear. As you can see we have kept the colour scheme throughout, trying not to use too much colour to give it a more sophisticated look to suit the genre at to attract our target audience.
