2. Forms and conventions of real media
products
From my research into Pop music and pop music videos I was able to
see what are the conventions of some of these real media products.
Such as following a specific style in the case of pop music this is often
driven by star construction and a mix of narrative. I am going to bullet
point some of these conventions :
• Follow a specific visual style
• Relationship between the music and the visuals
• Range in shot types
• Singing into a microphone ( less common )
• Dance sequence within the video
• Mise en scene is bright and full of colour
• Quick editing / Cuts
• Music and visual match / Rythmn

I mainly developed most conventions but I also did
challenge a few conventions. I decided that instead
of mainly focusing on star construction and a small
amount of narrative I would reverse this and make
the mix between the 2 more equal .
Additionally I developed my own individually
specific visual style which I used the RGB split to
create this was a style that was very uncommon
and therefore this style in itself was challenging
conventions .

When it came to developing a relationship
between the music and the visuals I developed
this by ensuring that way in which I edited my
piece matched the beats of the music and the
musical changes such as the bridge. Additionally
the visual narrative supported the light narrative
in the lyrics of the music which was the
narrative of a relationship between 2 people .

I also developed having a range of shots types
from close ups , to behind the back and pov
shots . This range in shot tops kept the piece
interesting and visually pleasing .

Another convention which I implemented in my
music video which is was less common was
singing in a studio . So I was challenging the
norm by making such a major part of my music
video .

Rather than focus on having a dance sequence
within the video I decided to let this go and
rather focus on developing the relationship
between my artist and her friend through the
visuals . But we do see a bit of dance like
motions during some of the scenes .
