Effects, titles, and royalty-free music are being added to fit the thriller genre. Overall the production is progressing smoothly with no major difficulties encountered.

Evaluation of the preliminary task
- 1. + EVALUATION OF THE PRELIMINARY TASK
- 2. + 1. HOW HAVE YOU USED MEDIA CONVENTIONS AND MEDIA LANGUAGE IN YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK? We have used media conventions in our preliminary task by having a variety of different camera shots. For example we have a long shot, behind the shoulder, close up and many varying 180 degree rule shots. The main aim for our preliminary task was to show that we are capable of successfully doing the 180 degree rule and match on action. Conventionally in police interview scenes there is silence in the background so that the audience focus their attention on the dialogue that is being said, therefore we replicated this in out final piece. When planning our mise-en-scene we couldn't’t do much due to the filming day being rather spontaneous and the actors weren’t told before hand to dress a certain way however we made the policewomen wear a lanyard around her neck and not the suspect to try and make her look more professional and as if she has more authority. The editing was kept pretty simple with short, quick cuts to make the piece seem profession and keep the topic serious.
- 3. + 1. Our preliminary video was of a police interview, to make ours convincing we watched a few clips of TV shows that had included a scene like ours. This was helpful as it meant that we could write our script so it followed the conventions of an interviews such as stating the date and time of the event, making the policewomen formal and also having some sort of evidence, for ours we had copies of CCTV photographs. Another convention of police interview scenes are the the interrogator walks into the room and then it cuts to a scene of the suspect sitting down and watching them. - 4. + 2. HOW SUCCESSFUL WAS YOUR INCLUSION OF MATCH ON ACTION, SHOT REVERSE SHOT AND MAINTAINING THE 180 DEGREE RULE? Personally I feel like we included the 180 degree rule very well as their were no problems with the shots when the final piece was produced. The majority of the film was in conversational 180 degree shots which also required shot reverse shot to make the scene run smoothly between the two characters speaking.
- 5. + 2. At the beginning of the scene, there is a match on action shot as one of the characters walks through a door and into the interview room. Match on action is used to ensure there is continuity throughout the film. When editing, we had to make sure that the sound of the door opening didn’t carry over twice when the two clips were edited together which was difficult at first but turned out fine in the end.
- 6. + 3. HOW COULD THIS PRELIMINARY TASK BE IMPROVED TECHNICALLY? Our preliminary task can be improved by just making it look more professional and of a better quality. This could be by making the mise-en-scene more conventional. For example, as we filmed our film in a classroom at school, because it was convenient, it makes the situation of the film not fit as there are French posters all around the room. Also, the lighting of the film is very bright which is the complete opposite in conventional police interviews. This could have been overcome if more planning was done before the filming was done however I know that a great amount of preparation is needed to make my final piece look the best that is can be.
- 7. + 4. WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU DEVELOPED AS INDIVIDUALS THROUGH THE PRELIMINARY TASK? What I have learnt from this preliminary task is the importance of planning and preparation. I have also improved my editing skills as I now know how to cut the clips and overlay some of the sounds so that there is continuity, for example when the door opened in the video. I now have a better understanding of how IMovie works, which is the software that was used to complete the editing of the film. This will be helpful in creating my final piece as I will be able to edit my horror opening easier and to a better quality.
