Evaluation of Research
What have you learnt from your front
cover analysis? How will you use this for
         your own front cover?
From my front cover analysis I have learnt that the main features that
attract readers to the magazine is the central image and cover lines.
Therefore I shall make sure I have a creative central image and good
cover lines. From the analysing front cover task, I learnt that the
central image are simplistic colouring and not bright, this helps the
writing stand out more. I will apply this to my magazine front cover.
Also I have learnt that using black, white and one bright colouring for
fonts is effective and stands out more. I have also learnt that using pull
quotes are much more effective, But you have to use a interesting line
which will get people wanting to be like “what is that about!” and want
to read the article. The layout of the magazines I have analysed are all
similar, The masthead either across the top or to the left and then
articles down both sides and the main article at the bottom left. I will
use a similar layout for my music magazine. Overall, My front cover
analysis has given me ideas of how to layout my front cover and what
sort of things to include within it.
What have you learnt from your contents
page analysis? How will you use this for
       your own contents page?
From my contents page analysis I have learnt that its best
to show features and whats in the magazine every month,
or set the articles out into features. This makes it easier
for the reader to quickly see what articles they will be
interested in the most. The contents pages all have a
similar layout too. They have the articles down one side
and then the main image on the other side which is about
an article (teaser). This looks effective and I will use this
layout within my magazine. I think I will include an advert
for subscription at the bottom like they have done on the
NME contents page as it is a clear place to mention it.
Overall I have learnt how to layout my contents page and
what to include in it from my analysis.
What have you learnt from your double
page spread analysis? How will you use
          this for your own DPS?
From my double page spread analysis I have learnt that
there is usually a picutre taking up one half of the DPS
and the other is the article. Or there are 2 pictures at the
top of each page with the article underneath it. The title
of the article is bold and big to make it stand out. There is
usually a pull quote within a double page spread. I will
use one of these layouts for my DPS. There are also drop
caps used within them so it stands out more. The pictures
on the DPS also have anchorage which will help the
readers understand why its there. I will use this in my DPS
by, for example, having a picture of something you need
to buy for a festival then saying where its from and how
much. This would work well.
What you have learnt from your
  Questionnaires and Focus Group? How
will this feedback affect your product?
From my questionnaire and focus group I finalised my masthead
which will be “InD”. It is a short and catchy masthead that clearly
states what music its about. I also chose what articles I would
include within my magazine and which one to do my double
page spread on. My Focus group thought this was a good idea
and would appeal to the specific genre. My focus group also
helped me pick a few certain bands that are most popular and
appropriate for the genre of music my magazine is. I also came
up with a price of £2 for a music magazine, it is quite cheap but
not too cheap, it is affordable. I was stuck between either using
pastel colours with a masthead that stands out or use bright
colours, my focus group said that I should use pastel colours as
not many magazine use pastel colours so it would stand out
more when youre looking for a magazine.
Overall..
Overall my research has helped me with the
layout of my magazine, what to include, colours,
cost and the masthead idea. This will all be
included in the magazine.
