EVALUATION OF PRELIM TASK:
Who did you work with and how did
you manage the tasks between you?
TEAM MEMBERS: Courtney, Joe, Susan;
TIME MANAGEMENT: Main roles: Joe and Susan
where the actor and actress, Courtney was in charge
of the camera, and I undertook the editing.
TIMES & SCHEDUALS: Any time we got after school or
within school ours we was working on our prelim task.
TIME MANAGEMENT ISSUES: In a whole we didn’t
have many issues besides trying to balance out when
everyone was free and able to work. In a whole we
was a very strong team and didn’t come across as
many group issues besides balancing out timings.
How did you plan your sequence?
What process did you use?
• STORY BOARDS
• PRACTICAL RUNS
• The way we planned out our sequence was through the
use of story boards and practical runs.
Story boards; This was done on a A3 sheet, we wrote done
the name of the shot, angles that was going to be used
and we drew up a small picture, which was there to
demonstrate how we wanted the shot to look.
After we created our storyboards; to help our
understanding of the scene more, we undertook practical
runs. What this means is that we role played the exact
scene several times; so by the end we all knew exactly
what our roles are.
What technology did you use to
complete the task, and how did you
use it?• CANON HD CAMERA
• TRIPOD
• ADOBE PREMIERE SOFTWARE
• LACIE
We uses various types of technology which helped us create our prelim.
We all had the opportunity to use ever single one; Canon HD
camera, tripod, adobe premiere software and the LaCie drive. We uses the
tripod to help us keep the camera levelled , so we attached it to the Cannon
HD camera to record each of our sequels. Once everything was recorded we
transferred it to the LaCie drive and then the clips were ready to be put
together. So then we used the software Adobe premiere to help us edit the
clips.
Through just the use of the camera as an individual I learnt how to use the
basic functions such as recording, different camera effects E.g. Slow
zoom, panning the actor etc. I learnt many new digital camera tricks and
techniques, from abstracts to zoom bursts, I also then learnt how to use
Adobe Premiere which is great for enhancing and adding effects to your
clips.
Factors taken into account when
planning, shooting and editing?
• TIME & SCHEDUALS
• LOCATION
• TEAM MEMBERS
• LIGHTING
• SOUND CONTROL
When filming there are many factors that need to be taken into
consideration, such as; every team members schedule timings. Everyone
needs to be free in order for the recording to take place. We also need to
make sure it’s the right time to record, so no non-cast get in the way of the
camera etc. This also effect sound control if too many people are around the
time you start recording, they will then be heard in the clip. You also have to
take into account team member needs, if you have a happy group your work
and enthusiasm will boost up. Locations is a very vital factor when
recording, the location gives off a setting of the clip, as we used a classroom
you get the impression that the invitation was given within the school
premise.
How successful was your sequence?
* Was successful as we completed it earlier than expected.
* Improvements: More editing done to the intro and ending text.
* Would have tried to not waste as much time on learning how to use
the camera and just got on with it.
I believe our sequence was successful, considering we had a short
amount of time to complete it. Also, we finished earlier than we
expected to, which allowed us extra time on the editing. However, as
with any task, improvements could have been made. We could have
made more improvements to the introduction and ending text. We
could have edited them to come in to the movie through special
effects or even added in sound effects
If we could re-do this prelim I would work around the fact we was
still trying to get used to the camera and the tripod, this would have
allowed us to take more shots which we could have used.
What have you learnt from
completing the task?
* Enhanced camera work skills
* Gained skills on how to use the tripod, LaCie drive, Adobe Premium
* Enhanced film editing skills
* Learnt how to work around a given setting
Throughout this whole task I have gained and enhanced many skills. I have gained
skills on how to use a tripod and a LaCie drive. I also learnt how to use a software
that I was completely new to, known as the Adobe Premium; this software allows
you to make edits and any changes to clips of your choice. I also learnt how to work
around a given setting or location; this will be useful later onwards as our team
members will grasp how to use our surroundings within out scenes quicker.
As a whole group we all played and individual management role; we all had an
input and we worked as a group to accomplish this task. We all made sure we stayed
as organised as we could with time and the workload. So everyone kept to their
scripts and roles, this allowed us to get through the recording quicker; which left us a
good amount of time for the editing. If we had another shot at this prelim I think as
a group we would have wanted to edit the sequel a bit more.
Post production - What did you learn
about the editing process?
* Dragging scenes
* Dragging voice clips
* Cutting scenes
* Cropping the clip
* Special effects
* Adding text
Through the editing process I grasped many new skills such as how to crop, extend
and drag the clip and the voice clips. I also learnt how to make certain parts of the
movie into slow motion and slow down the sound. On top of all this I also learnt how
to connect one clip to the other so it is a clean cut and flows well. The way we made
decisions whilst editing was first putting everything in order and deciding as a group
what went well and what needed to be changed, once the whole group was happy
we saved it and created it into a short film. We had an hour to edit the whole
clip, and in that hour no time was wasted, got straight into our task and we finished
it earlier than expected.
Strengths of this task were figuring out how the software works, how special
effects such as slow motion can be added into the clip. The weakness mostly was the
lack of knowledge we had, as it was our first times using the Adobe Premier
software. If this task could be done again I would most defiantly add more editing
features onto the sequel.

Editor's Notes

  1. My group was made up of four people in total including me, I worked alongside Courtney, Joe and Susan. We all was given individual tasks; our main roles where me doing the editing, Courtney under camera control and Joe and Susan as the actor and actress; even though we was given certain roles we still had an equal input. The way we organised our times and schedules was based on our timetables. So every lesson we had together we would undertake the filming or the editing; we even took out an hour of our own time after school in order to make sure we completed our set aim to finish our prelim. As with any tasks you come across a few issues; in our cases the main problem was that we found it difficult to balance out our times due to absences. However, in a whole our group had strong team members therefore we tackled this issue by making sure if any absences did occur they would make up for it by doing the editing. Also, considering this was some of our first time we did come across still trying to get used to using the equipment, so this lost time. Our main weakness was time control as we didn’t manage our time well enough. However, we made up for this through our editing skills. If we had another shot at this the thing we would do differently is make sure we made more free time to film as we did have to rush the filming due to the lack of time.
  2. The way we planned out our sequence was through the use of story boards and practical runs. Story boards; This was done on a A3 sheet, we wrote done the name of the shot, angles that was going to be used and we drew up a small picture, which was there to demonstrate how we wanted the shot to look. After we created our storyboards; to help our understanding of the scene more, we undertook practical runs. What this means is that we role played the exact scene several times; so by the end we all knew exactly what our roles are.
  3. We uses various types of technology which helped us create our prelim. We all had the opportunity to use ever single one; Canon HD camera, tripod, adobe premiere software and the LaCie drive. We uses the tripod to help us keep the camera levelled , so we attached it to the Cannon HD camera to record each of our sequels. Once everything was recorded we transferred it to the LaCie drive and then the clips were ready to be put together. So then we used the software Adobe premiere to help us edit the clips. Through just the use of the camera as an individual I learnt how to use the basic functions such as recording, different camera effects E.g. Slow zoom, panning the actor etc. I learnt many new digital camera tricks and techniques, from abstracts to zoom bursts, I also then learnt how to use Adobe Premiere which is great for enhancing and adding effects to your clips.
  4. When filming there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration, such as; every team members schedule timings. Everyone needs to be free in order for the recording to take place. We also need to make sure it’s the right time to record, so no non-cast get in the way of the camera etc. This also effect sound control if too many people are around the time you start recording, they will then be heard in the clip. You also have to take into account team member needs, if you have a happy group your work and enthusiasm will boost up. Locations is a very vital factor when recording, the location gives off a setting of the clip, as we used a classroom you get the impression that the invitation was given within the school premise.
  5. I believe our sequence was successful, considering we had a short amount of time to complete it. Also, we finished earlier than we expected to, which allowed us extra time on the editing. However, as with any task, improvements could have been made. We could have made more improvements to the introduction and ending text. We could have edited them to come in to the movie through special effects or even added in sound effectsIf we could re-do this prelim I would work around the fact we was still trying to get used to the camera and the tripod, this would have allowed us to take more shots which we could have used.
  6. Throughout this whole task I have gained and enhanced many skills. I have gained skills on how to use a tripod and a LaCie drive. I also learnt how to use a software that I was completely new to, known as the Adobe Premium; this software allows you to make edits and any changes to clips of your choice. I also learnt how to work around a given setting or location; this will be useful later onwards as our team members will grasp how to use our surroundings within out scenes quicker.As a whole group we all played and individual management role; we all had an input and we worked as a group to accomplish this task. We all made sure we stayed as organised as we could with time and the workload. So everyone kept to their scripts and roles, this allowed us to get through the recording quicker; which left us a good amount of time for the editing. If we had another shot at this prelim I think as a group we would have wanted to edit the sequel a bit more.
  7. Through the editing process I grasped many new skills such as how to crop, extend and drag the clip and the voice clips. I also learnt how to make certain parts of the movie into slow motion and slow down the sound. On top of all this I also learnt how to connect one clip to the other so it is a clean cut and flows well. The way we made decisions whilst editing was first putting everything in order and deciding as a group what went well and what needed to be changed, once the whole group was happy we saved it and created it into a short film. We had an hour to edit the whole clip, and in that hour no time was wasted, got straight into our task and we finished it earlier than expected.Strengths of this task were figuring out how the software works, how special effects such as slow motion can be added into the clip. The weakness mostly was the lack of knowledge we had, as it was our first times using the Adobe Premier software. If this task could be done again I would most defiantly add more editing features onto the sequel.
