Evaluation Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Pre-production: blog, prezi.
Production:video
camera, studio
Post-production: Final
cut pro
The blog is an online tool which permitted us to explore the world of title sequences and
the horror genre. Thus, we could embark on making our own title sequence. The blog’s
purpose was mostly research, showing evidence of our production’s process and all the
aspects we have been through in order to produce the film. The blog was mainly helpful
during the pre-production stage. We used blogger.com, created a blog with a suitable URL,
chose a theme which was optional and focused on learning from it while investigating
certain issues, title sequences, films, conventions etc.
Prezi is another online tool, more like a software, different to the blog, which helped us to
organize ideas in a likeable, arranged way. We used prezi for the pitch, part of our pre-
production, in order to establish our film’s plan. Also, prezi offers various kinds of templates
which can easily engage with the audience or whoever you are presenting to. We were able
to add images to our prezi presentantions so we could explain better visually what we
aimed to do.
During the production phase, the video camera enabled us to film the title sequence. We had a tutorial of
how to use it in the first classes with our editing tutor. We were taught how to turn it on, insert the SD
card, use its features such as: zoom in/out, focus, control aperture in order to either receive more light in
our shots or diminish it, and also how to set it on the tripod. The tripod was more favorable to us than the
hand-held, because it is more steady and we had greater control of camera movement.
With all the information gathered at the tutorial, we went on filming. We were confident with using the
camera. Although there were few incidents regarding our footage along the way, resulting in wavy film
and eventually switching the cameras, we still succeeded in utilizing it. We knew what type of shots we
wanted to shoot beforehand, therefore it was a matter of time until we took control of it.
The studio we had provided by the school contributed majorly to our title sequence. We would not have
had the same atmosphere found in the witch’s parts without it. The amber light from her scenes, which
gives the sense of a peculiar realm, was supported by the studio. It had helped greatly our sequence in
terms of mise-en-scene.
Final Cut Pro, the software part of our journey, was the only program we used for editing our footage. It
was available in the editing suite. It helped us to connect our shots on a timeline, cut what we needed
from the footage, add non-diegetic/diegetic sounds to certain shots, edit the brightness in others. The
tutor also gave us a hand when we had to edit our logo for the production company, to change the eyes’
colour. This program allowed various features to incorporate in our title sequence. We could as well
lower some sounds and heighten others, create atmosphere, alter areas in order to obtain our desired
result. We benefitted of it by adding whispering sounds(incantations) to our sequence, which create
atmosphere and we could not have done this without editing. Final Cut Pro, as any other editing
program, is a valuable tool whenever one considers creating a film.
