Abstract This research paper is focused on the study of various environmental aspects and their impacts arising from the Indian manufacturing industries. Our environment is being polluted day by day due to rapid industrialization. Today the delicate ecosystem of our planet is facing a danger of destruction on a scale as never before in the history of mankind. Forests are diminishing at an alarming rate, landmasses are getting eroded, climate in different parts of the world is undergoing a change due to global warming and clean air and water are increasingly becoming rare commodities. So it is high time to be aware and alert about environmental protection which cannot be done without understanding the environmental aspects. Present study tried to explain the significant environmental aspects arising from Indian manufacturing industries by analyzing the data collected through questionnaire survey. It is observed from collected data that emission to air is most significant environmental aspect in Indian manufacturing industries in respect to severity i.e. the effect of this environmental aspect is more harmful for human beings. Noise environmental aspect is having more efficiency, probability and duration, it means this environmental aspect is produced in each and every manufacturing company and affects the environment. Emission to water is second most important environmental aspect with respect to severity, probability and frequency. The degradation of Land Environmental Aspect effects the environment after the emission to water environmental aspect. But acid deposition, use of hazardous substances and production of toxic waste etc. environmental aspects have moderate significance as they have less probability, less frequency and less duration. So, Manufacturing Industries have to make monitoring plan for all these environmental aspects preferably for emission to air, release to water and noise. Key words: Environmental Aspects, Severity, Duration, Probability and Frequency, Degradation of Land, Hazardous Substances.

Selection of optimal air pollution control strategieseSAT Journals
Abstract
Sustainable development needs social, economic, energy and environmental sustainability. We propose a model to minimize the total cost consisting of economic cost of pollution control equipment, health cost because of pollutants emissions. We developed a Mixed Integer Non Linear Programming (MINLP) based model for selection of optimal air pollution control strategy. The model considers multiple pollutants, multiple emission sources and multiple control equipments. Constraints like budget and efficiency of control equipment are included in the model. Affect of emission norms on total cost is discussed. The efficacy of the proposed model is explained by considering simulation case studies of a typical cement plant and a thermal power plant.

Reverse logistics is one of the adopted supply chain processes and becomes more important because of economic and ecological conditions, administrative and social responsibilities, sustainable development, environment protection laws, and the aim of material and resource use. Recycling is a term that means recyclable waste materials are processed with various recycling methods and prepared to use in manufacturing as raw materials. Especially, used materials such as paper, glass, plastics and metals which are called 'packaging waste' are revalued in favour of economic. In most of the countries, local authorities are responsible for waste handling issues such as collection, transportation and disposal. In relation to waste management, the whole cycle of generation of wastes, their storage, collection and transport, and their eventual treatment and disposal are taken into condsideration.

An analysis of drivers affecting the implementation of green supply chain man...eSAT Journals
Abstract The supply chain consists of those activities associated with manufacturing from raw material acquisition to final product delivery. Because of the recently changed environmental requirements that affect manufacturing operations and transportation systems, growing attention is given to the development of environment management strategies for supply chains. A green supply chain aims at confining the wastes within the industrial system so as to conserve energy and prevent the dissipation of harmful materials into the environment. Frequently researches in study on drivers of Green Supply Chain Management are criticized for its narrow perspectives and lack of industrial relevance. So, it is a real need to find improved processes for adoption and implementation of Green practices Green image in Manufacturing Industries. In the current competitive scenario, the driver of Green Supply Chain Management assumes a significant importance and call for serious research attention. The aim of this paper is to examining the Green practices in the selected Indian Manufacturing Companies. The main objectives of this paper are to gain critical and crucial drivers for implementation of Green Supply Chain Management in Indian Manufacturing Industries in various sectors likewise, two wheeler, four wheeler, and General Manufacturing sector wise companies. This paper has attempted to fill the gaps in the contemporary research in the study on drivers of Green Supply Chain Management in selected Indian corporate sectors. It is observed that Driver, DF10 i.e. ‘Employees Motivation, health & Safety’ have more important and crucial for adoption of GSCM for 2-wheeler industries. It is also observed that Driver DF1 i.e. ‘Government rules & legislation’ have more important and crucial for adoption of GSCM for 4-wheeler industries. But it is also observed that Driver DF2 i.e. ‘environmental concerns and legislation; DF7 i.e. customer awareness, pressure & support; DF12 i.e. organizational capabilities and awareness; and DF14 i.e. global climate pressure and ecological; respectively have equal importance and crucial for adoption of GSCM for general manufacturing companies. Life cycle assessment of construction materials using eio lcaeSAT Journals
Abstract
As per the growing demands of wireless communication there is enormous new technologies participating to make sophisticated environment for an end user. In a recent survey of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) it was found that the number of mobile phone subscribers has exceeds seven billion subscriptions at the end of 2014 using more than 10 to 15 internet utility apps which is more than the entire population of planet. To serve this increasing number and size of wireless communication system the German physicist – Harald Haas proposed a “Li–Fi technology” which he calls “Data through illumination” or “D-Light”. Li-Fi is a new approach of VLC which has much more similar working of a OFC communication system providing data rates of ten’s of Gbps. In this technology data is interpreted by the LED’s ON/OFF concepts.
This paper gives a brief focus on Li-Fi technology, it’s working principal, some misconceptions about Li-Fi and related researches like Nobel Prize winning Blue Light emitting diode, Optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) receiver, etc.

Green supply chain management in Indian Electronics & Telecommunication IndustryIJESM JOURNAL
The study investigates the Green Supply Chain Management practices adopted by the Electronics & Telecommunication Industry in India. Study focuses on the impact of environmental collaboration in the supply chain on manufacturing and environmental performance. This paper used inductive and qualitative approaches to explore the salient factors that simultaneously enhance the “greening the supply chain” as well as maximizing the customer reach while maintaining the efficiency of the supply chain system of Electronics & Telecommunication Industry. A survey was conducted with key informants across many divisions of the Electronics & Telecommunication Industry to investigate how well these environmental and customer reach in the supply chain are in synchronized with the top management’s commitment towards environmental responsiveness and maximizing customer orientation. The responses to the survey were statistically analyzed and a relationship model was constructed with Market orientation as the dependent variable and independent variables as: environmental policies, supplier policies, commitment to human capital and diversity, sustainability and market orientation. The paper proposes to measure the performance of the corporation with respect to greening the supply chain, maximizing the reach of consumers and operational efficiency with a view of re-engineering the existing supply chain. The key indicators identified were environmental policies, supplier policies, sustainability, market orientation and commitment to human capital and diversity.
Product recovery decisions within the context of Extended Producer Responsibi...Ian McCarthy
Environmental and economic evidence is increasingly supporting the need for better analytical tools for evaluating the recovery of consumer products. In response, we present a novel mathematical model for determining what we call the Optimal Recovery Plan (ORP) for any given product. The ORP is based on an evaluation and optimization of the economics of remanufacturing consumer products versus demanufacturing in the context of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation, a driving force behind the adoption remanufacturing initiatives by firms. We provide an illustrative application of the model and then discuss its implications for scholars and practitioners concerned with sustainable business development.
The growing environmental awareness among the
society, customer, stakeholders and tremendous pressure of
government bodies to comply with the environmental norms, the
industries and professionals are forcing themselves towards the
world class environmental management practices.
By taking into account the trend, the work carried out on one
of the product ‘Deflector Roll’. The roll undergoes heavy wear &
tear, high compressive & torsional stresses; as a result it
cracks/breaks after certain period of use. The new manufacturing
creates environmental & human health burden through various
processes performed on it. By taking this gap into account, the
life cycle of roll, modelled in an eco-intelligent way so that after
the useful life, the material is brought back into the techno sphere
without waste. The proposed life cycle model consists of
Extraction and Production of Raw Material, Manufacturing, Use,
Remanufacturing, Reuse and finally Recycling. This modified
framework enables to form the Cradle to Cradle life cycle loop by
two ways, viz. while remanufacture/reuse the roll is brought back
into the product system and while recycling again around 95% of
material is brought back into the techno sphere. Further, in order
to evaluate the environmental performance of roll with proposed
model, the ‘Life Cycle Assessment’ tool is chosen. The roll is
assessed through all of its life cycle phases. The inputs and
outputs during each life cycle phase are collected and recorded.
The assessment carried out on the modified life cycle model in
one of the reputed LCA software tool ‘GaBi 6.’ In order to assess
the life cycle impacts the ‘CML 2001’ methodology is adopted
which consist of the impact categories like Global warming
potential, Acidification, Ozone Layer depletion and many others.
Further, the results show that the proposed model creates the
negligible impacts during manufacturing, use, remanufacturing
and reuse. Also, the two way formation of cradle to cradle loop
concludes that the proposed product system model of roll is
sustainable.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN CONDENSING HEAT EXCHANGERS...ssuser7dcef0
Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

EVALUATION OF GREEN ACT IN SMALL SCALE FOUNDRY FRAGMENT S. Janaki1, R. Jayachitra2 1Research Scholar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, India 2Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, India Abstract More people are aware of the world’s environmental problems such as global warming, toxic substance usage, and decreasing in non-replenish resources. The Government has released campaigns to promote this problem to people. Several organizations responded to this by applying green principles to their company, such as using environmental friendly raw material, reducing the usage of petroleum power, and using the recycle papers for packaging. Green supply chain management (GSCM) was emerging in the last few years. This idea covers every stage in manufacturing from the first to the last stage of lifecycle, i.e. from product design to recycle. The Green Supply Chain (GSC) is a key element of an enterprise-wide green management strategy. A GSC can help agencies comply with new federal guidelines while achieving a wide range of economic, social, national security, and environmental goals. This study aims to investigate the current green level of foundry industry in and around a specific city. The approach of the present research includes a literature review, in depth interviews and questionnaire surveys. The survey questionnaire was designed with 16 items using literature. This project evaluates the environmental assessment of small scale foundries to find the critical factors of green supply chain management and their relation to the organizational performance. Keywords - Green supply chain, recycle, and environmental assessment
--------------------------------------------------------------------***----------------------------------------------------------------- 1. INTRODUCTION In India, various grades of castings weighing 9.99 million are produced annually in foundries. In majority of the cases, these castings are exported to the companies situated in different parts of the world which stipulate to adhere the International standards. The various types of castings which are produced are ferrous, non-ferrous, aluminium alloy, graded cast iron, ductile iron, steel etc. for application in Automobiles, Railways, Pumps, Compressors, Valves, Diesel, Engines, Cement / Electrical / Textile Machineries, Pipes and Fittings for Aero and Sanitary and Casting for special applications. However, Grey iron castings have the major share of 68% of total castings produced. There are approximately 4500 foundries, out of which 85% can be classified as Small Scale Units and 10% as Medium and 5% as Large Scale Units.
Approximately 800 foundries are having International Quality Accreditation. Several large foundries functioning in India are modernised and globally competitive and are working at nearly full capacity. Most foundries employ Cupolas using LAM Coke. There is growing awareness about environment and many foundries are switching over to induction furnaces and some Units in Agra are changing over to cokeless cupolas. Besides these, actions are taken by managements of foundries to conserve energy and natural resources like coke, oil and water. Proper selection of equipments, adaption of best practices during shop floor operations and maintenance of equipment are necessitated today to improve the competitiveness of the foundry industry. Also the encouragement is required for the sustainable growth of the foundry industry and downstream industries for the overall economic growth and employment opportunities in the country. One of the avenues of imparting sustainable growth in the foundry industry is the application of green practices in foundry sector (Torielli et al 2010).
Currently foundry industry faces specific challenges with respect to economic and environmental sustainability. Foundry processes require substantial energy, typically generated using fossil fuels. Melting the material consumes the majority of this energy. However, other energy intensive processes such as heat treatment are also included in many foundry operations. Also, a majority of foundries utilize sand as a moulding material. The binders utilized can often include organic compounds and are burned out in the casting process. During this process volatile organic compounds and hazardous air are released. Organic materials which are used during casting finishing process can also affect environment purity. Thus foundries situated in India are in need of much attention in the field of Green supply Chain Management (GSCM) According to Srivastra (2007) GSCM is an integrated environmental thinking into supply chain management including product design, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing processes, delivery of the final product to the consumers and end-of-life management of the product after its useful life. According to this definition, GSCM relates to a wide-range of production from product design to recycling or destroying the used products. In this background, the outcome of literature review on GSCM followed in industrial sector is presented in the next section.

2. LITERATURE REVIEW On realizing the need of applying GSCM principles in foundries of India, the literature was searched to locate papers reporting such researches. This search resulted in the identification of six papers. The features of the researches reported in these papers are briefly described in this section. Ashiskumar Bhateja et al. (2011) discussed various activities of the Supply Chain processes of Indian Manufacturing companies. These authors have found out the percentage of the green factor involved in their supply chain activities from the procurement of the raw material to the transportation of the final product Pandya Amit and Mavani Pratik (2012) aimed to investigate the GSCM practices likely to be adopted by the pharmaceutical industry. They studied the relationship between GSCM practices and the environmental, operational and financial performances. Toke et al. (2012) developed appropriate strategy for implementing GSCM in Indian manufacturing industry. Ezutah Udoncy Olugu et al. (2010) proposed a holistic performance measurement approach to attain an effective and efficient closed loop Supply Chain (CLSC). In their study, a suitable approach has been proposed for CLSC performance measurement in the automotive industry. It is believed that this approach will result in increased effectiveness and efficiency in CLSC performance measurement. Ru-Jen Lin et al. (2011) discussed the criteria that influence the performance of the automobile manufacturing industry using fuzzy set theory and Decision Making Trial. This hybrid method evaluates its performance to find key criteria in improving the manufacturer’s green performance. Their findings showed that the increase of cost for purchasing environmental friendly material is the most influential and significant criterion, while the pollution control initiatives is the most effective criterion. Managerial implications are also discussed and concluding remarks are made. Ru-Jen Lin et al. (2011) examined the moderating effects of Total Quality Environmental Management (TQEM) on the relationship between GSCM and Environmental Performance (EP). The research premised that the total organizational effort from top management and facilitation of employees in the implementation of GSCM will ultimately enhance green performance. The statistical results indicated the interactions of GSCM and TQEM in enhancing environmental performance. From the results of the literature survey reported above, it is observed that there is need for the study on environmental performance of Indian foundry industry. 3. OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGY The following are the objectives of the research presented here which involved the statistical study of the green practices in foundry sector and their performances.
To obtain the environmental assessment of small scale foundries in and around Coimbatore city of India.

foundries following GSCM and their level of environmental
performance.
4. SURVEY ANALYSIS
The data were collected using questionnaire survey from the
25 foundries. The questions were grouped under the
categories namely, General information about the company,
Environmental practices, Waste management, Air Quality
management and Environmental performance. The survey
results were analysed using Minitab and Excel. Based on the
work flow survey questions were prepared and are
circulated among the foundry industries to know about how
far the concept of green is adopted.
4.1 Hypothesis Testing
Hypothesis testing is a decision making process for
evaluating claims about population. Economic performance
is typically the most important driver for enterprises that
wish to implement environmental management practices.
4.2 Equal Effectiveness Test
Cochran’s Q test is an e to the McNemar test for related
samples that provides a method for testing the differences
between three or more matched sets of frequencies or
proportions. The matching samples can be based on k
characteristics of N individuals that are associated with the
response. Alternatively, N individuals may be observed
under k different treatments or conditions (for example
different questions or one question at different times). The
data must be supplied as dichotomous variables containing 0
to represent failure (or absence), and 1 to represent success
(or presence). The variables can be stored in separate
variants, or alternatively, all the data can be stored in a
single variant, with a factor to indicate which variable is
recorded in each unit of the variant. Note that, it is assumed
that the individuals are recorded in the same order for each
variable.
H0: The treatments are equally effective.
H1: There is a difference in effectiveness among treatments.
The Cochran’s Q test statistic is
Where,
k is the number of treatments
X j is the column total for the jth treatment
b is the number of blocks
Xi is the row total for the ith block
N is the grand total
The results of Cochran’s Q test are presented in Table 1. On
observing the data presented in this Table, it can be easily
observed that, most of the foundry organizations believe that
environmental regulation is the critical factor for the
company.
Table 1: Foundry Environmental Assessment

From the above analysis, it can be seen that, coefficient of
effectiveness is 40.6. The Table value for the degrees of
freedom 5 and the significance level 0.05 is 16. The value
indicates that no factors have equal effectiveness on
organizations thinking towards environmental practices. The
data on foundry Environmental Assessment (Waste
Management) are presented. From the Table 2, it can be
easily observed that, most of the foundry organizations
believe that separate wastes is the critical factor for the
company. From the above analysis, it can be seen that
coefficient of effectiveness is 42.3. The table value for the
degrees of freedom 4 and the significance level 0.05 is
14.860. This value indicates that no factors have equal
effectiveness on organizations thinking towards waste
management.

4.3 Chi-Square Test
One of the equal effectiveness tests namely, Chi-square is a
statistical test commonly used to compare observed data
with data expected to obtain according to a specific
hypothesis. The data obtained from the sample are referred
to as the observed numbers of cases. These are the
frequencies of occurrence for each category into which the
data have been grouped. In the Chi-square tests, the null
hypothesis makes a statement concerning how many cases
are to be expected in each category if this hypothesis is
correct. The chi square test is based on the difference
between the observed and the expected values for each
category.

For the purpose of the study, the GSCM affecting
environmental performance of the foundry has been studied
under two categories namely, yes and no. With a view to
find the degree of association between companies affected
by GSCM and their level of environmental performance, a
two way table was prepared and the same is depicted in
Table 4. In order to find out the relationship between the
foundries, GSCM and their environmental performance, a
Chi-square test was employed and result of the test is given
in the Table 5.
H0: There is no significant relationship between the

Table 6 Summary of the Survey
Through from the survey results and hypothesis testing, it may be concluded that there is a greater understanding among the foundries about the positive impact to the environment in following green concept. There are many reasons because of which they are not following it. Table 6 shows the overall summary about the current status of apply of GSCM in foundries and Fig. 2 shows its graphical representation.
5. CONCLUSIONS
The environmental assessment of small scale foundries in and around Coimbatore was studied using questionnaire survey. The attempt was made to collect the data from the foundries to know about the current green level of the foundries situated in and around Coimbatore. From the data collected, statistical analysis was made from the survey results to know about the green current practices. From the analysis, it is concluded that there is a close relationship between the GSCM and their level of environmental performance. It is found that foundries in Coimbatore show little interest in green concepts. Though the awareness among the environmental effects is found to be positive, still there are many reasons prevailing in the industry which act as barriers. The government and the foundry industries should take some initiatives to change the prevalence of the current situation. REFERENCES [1] Samir K.
