1. Evaluation of front cover and contents page for a school magazine By Melissa Edwards
2. Does the media product challenge it? Throughout my media product, I used the codes and convention of a front cover and contents page of a magazine. I did not challenge the codes and conventions as we were told not to by our teacher. The codes and conventions that I used and did well was using a main central image as a mid-shot, I had more then 3 cover lines on my front cover and had a colour scheme of 3 colours (purple, black and white). The codes and conventions that I could of improved on was making the masthead a unique front and having more then 3 fronts for the cover lines to make them standout. Also I could of used graphics to make the price standout more as it is cheap. The codes and conventions for my contents page that I used well was splitting it up into three columns and having two columns for pictures and one column for writing, I also made sure that I put page numbers on my images, I also used different colours for the different sections of the magazine, however these colours were not used in the front cover. I could of improved my using a different blocks of colour to break up the columns to make it more interesting, also the masthead of the front cover should of been smaller at the top of the contents page and used a bigger heading called ‘contents page’ I developed my codes and conventions by researching other magazines and genres. This helped me realise what the codes and conventions were for each type of genre to make sure they appeal to the right target audience.
3. What media technologies did I use? While making my media product I used SLR and digital cameras to provide images for my magazine. I preferred using the SLR cameras as the images were more clear and were able to zoom into images that were far away. The digital cameras were easier to use however the images taken weren't as good quality this might of been because of the mise on scene or because the camera angles wasn’t very good or right. I also used Photoshop and Quark, Photoshop I found was easier to use then Quark as it was more simple and straightforward whereas with Quark i was unsure of what to do as it was confusing. However I did find Photoshop stressful while trying to crop or cut out an image from the surrounding mise en scene. Quark was easier to upload an image however I found it hard when trying to import the masthead and shapes. I used Quark for my contents page and Photoshop for my front cover. I also used slideshare.com to show on my blog as a way to set out my work in a more interesting way. To make my blog even more interesting I could of used prezzi.com this is a different and more appealing way of presenting my work.
9. Using slideshare.comI could improve on my codes and conventions and make sure I am using them correctly and to make sure that I am not challenging them. I could improve further myusing more technology skills on my blog my uploading you tube clips, videos, more images of when i was progressing in my contents page and front cover and also being able to use prezzi.
