What I have learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing the product.

This is an evaluation looking at the variety of media technologies that I have learnt to use throughout the construction of
the music magazine.
Photography
My coursework has required me to take a variety of high quality images that can be used in the
magazine to make it look more professional. In order to do this I used a High quality Cannon SLR
digital camera for all of the images in my magazine. I had to learnt how to use the camera
effectively in order to get suitable images for the magazine.
I looked at performing low angle shots for the front cover as well as that I made the image on
the front cover a medium close up in order to fit in with conventions of a music magazine. For
the double page spread I had to use flash on the Camera which was another a=example of the
technologies used I also had to accurately zoom and focus the lens of the camera before
transferring the images onto a PC for editing.
I used a Cannon
digital SLR very similar
to this one to take the
images for my music
magazine pages.
Quark
Quark was used to construct both the contents page and the double page spread for my music
magazine, this was a software that I had never used before and therefore used to learn
throughout the process of the production.
Quark helped me to format the pages efficiently through the employment of guides on the
page giving me a simple and efficient way of making the page look neat and professional. I was
able to include the images that I had took on the digital camera into quark when producing the
pages. I was able to add columns in to the contents page through quark and was able to add
text and images to begin construction, I also used media from the internet downloading suitable
texts from ‘Dafont.com’ this allowed me a way of getting fonts that looked good on my
magazine and also fitted in with the conventions well. In terms of the double page spread I
incorporated media through editing the image in quark that I affected to give it more a affect
typical with the magazines themes and genre as well as that I added shapes and text to make
the product look more professional.
Photoshop
Photoshop was used to construct the front cover of my music magazine, again I used a variety
of features within Photoshop in order to produce the front cover. One of the things that I learnt to
do is how to delete the background of a image, the image that I had chosen to use on the
cover had a background that I didn’t want, I therefore used the magic wand tool to delete the
background and also the lasso tool to draw around and edit out any unwanted background.
Furthermore I learnt to use other technologies, I wanted to make the masthead look like a sticker
effect I therefore used the polygonal lasso tool to draw around and rotate the top corner of the
text and used a stroke to make the masthead appear like a sticker.
I also employed media that I had learnt in order to add shapes to the text creating a banner
that I angled and also text that I edited using strokes and colour overlays on the cover.
