Evaluation – Client project
Ellie Dawson
Constraints – legal (copyright), regulatory
(ASA) and financial perspective
In terms of legal constraints the only possible issue that could lie within a constraint like this would
be copyright. This could end in my client being taken to civil court. But to ensure this does not
happen I have made sure that all the work I make is all my own and I have not used anyone else's
images or fonts because the fonts I have used have come from Photoshop which I have bought so
therefore I have the right to use these fonts.
Regulatory constraints like for example the ASA can also be ruled out because the advertisement
poster I have made and the relaunch flyer I have designed are both appropriate for all audiences
and both contain completely accurate information about the products Stanley & Ramona offer
therefore ASA will not have any problems with my pieces of work.
A financial perspective constraint is also not an issue because all the work apart from the cocktail
poster that I have done was cost-free, and the only costs I had to cover for the cocktail poster was
buying the ingredients to make the cocktails for the poster, which only amounted to £4.00 so
financially it was not an issue to cover that cost.
Management
Regarding general management of the project I would say I am pleased with how it has turned out and
I managed to complete all the work without being hugely overran. A lot of the ideas were off my own
back because my client did not have very in depth ideas for things like the logo and menu, so they
actually requested I just use my own ideas.
In regard to which pieces of work I think I managed the best, I would say the logo came easiest to me
as I had the idea for that almost straight away, another one of my pieces that ideas came easily to me
for was the relaunch flyer, this is because I decided the best thing to do to show people what Stanley
& Ramona offered was to give them a brief description of the menu because I thought that was the
main thing people want to know about a café, what it offers, then the decision to make it mustard was
fairly quickly decided as my client wanted the flyer to stand out, so I made it mustard because that is
the brightest colour in their colour scheme.
The pieces of work that were not so easy but still quite manageable in the end were: first of all the
menu, I struggled with this for a while when starting off because it was difficult to decide where to
position the text, once I figured that out the thing I struggled with most was which font to use, I found
that the logo I had chosen was very nice and fitted well with my clients requests, but it was very
difficult to get other fonts to match with it. In the end I decided to use a simpler font for the menu’s
content. The other piece of work that was a little trickier than the others was the cocktail evening
poster, this is because I had to make all the cocktails, then take pictures of them for the poster and
then cut out the background because I wanted it to be a plain colored background. Once this was
done I was getting more ideas together and I then had to decide which fonts to use for the text I
wanted introducing the cocktail evening and the address for the café. This took me longer than I
expected to decide, eventually I found a font I liked and discovered that it helped to make the ‘cocktail
evening’ text the same colour as the logo, this tied it all in nicely and made it match better, which
helped the fonts go together even more. I also used this font for the address underneath the ‘cocktail
evening’ text too.
Time management and agreed timescales
Time management was not an issue for me at all in this project
because during planning I created a production schedule so that I
knew what I had to work on each day and when it needed to be
completed by, this worked well for me because it made it so that I had
contingency time at the end which I used to make some slight
adjustments to my menu at my client’s request due to a few new items
on the menu.
Similarly with the agreed timescales, the last day of production was
Friday 19th May, but due to my client adding some options to the
menu I ran over that time a little but still little enough to manage to
finish the work off.
Communication management
When requesting my brief from my client, I outlined what I
was able to do for her, and the different pieces I was
offering to do. She came back to me and requested for me
to make a new logo for the café, a menu, cocktail evening
poster and a relaunch flyer. I never actually got a paper copy
of the brief, but an emailed version was enough for me to
understand and we still agreed upon it the same.
My communication with my client throughout the project
was fairly regular in a sense that when I had a question to
ask I would email and let her know how I was getting on
then adding anything at the end I needed to ask her, she
would then reply in a day or two and I would have the
information I needed.
Meeting brief requirements and
agreed outcomes
Brief requirements:
• Logo
• Menu
• Relaunch flyer
• Cocktail evening poster
• Colour scheme – dark grey, white, a ‘small amount’ of blue and mustard.
Logo – This is definitely a piece of work I would say in which I have met the brief requirements and agreed outcomes, this was easily done
because all my client provided me for this piece of work was a colour scheme, and she requested that the rest would be left up to me as
she wanted me to use my own ideas. From this I am more than happy with how my logo has turned out, as I have made it look very simple
yet modern and trendy, whilst also using the colour palate I was given.
Menu – Out of all the pieces of work I completed I would say this is the hardest one to complete and gain ideas for, nonetheless I am still
very happy with how my menu has turned out because it displays what Stanley & Ramona have to offer very clearly yet it still looks
aesthetically pleasing and matches with the colour scheme. This is exactly what my client requested in her brief, she wanted it simple but
yet to still look nice, and I feel I have definitely achieved this.
Relaunch flyer – My client requested the relaunch flyer to be bright and she wanted it to project their image to the public and show what
they have to offer. To achieve this I decided to make a brief copy of the menu choices, so just like the menu I had a savoury and sweet
section, then hot drinks, cold drinks and milkshakes. I displayed the text in a slightly different way to the menu as I did not include prices
because I felt it was not necessary to include this information because it generally is not what people look for or want to know on/from a
relaunch flyer. I also chose the background to be mustard from their colour palate because it was the brightest and I thought that it would
be quite eye-catching.
Cocktail evening poster –
New skills and knowledge for future tasks
This project has definitely helped me gain new skills with Photoshop
because I have had to carry out the editing process alone without any
help so anything I was not sure on I had to figure out myself.
The tools I used the most when creating my pieces of work are the
polygon lasso tool, quick selection tool and adjustments like
brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, levels/curves and the colourise tool.
In future tasks this will mean I will be confident on my ability to work
alone and make various pieces of work alone and I will know Photoshop
and it’s tools well so I will feel confident to use that also.
Feedback
I have received feedback from my client regarding the pieces of work I had sent her.
• Logo - We like the 'Stanley and Ramona' logo that you have created as it is vibrant and would attract our target audiences. It
says to a customer that our image is friendly and fun. It could be good to incorporate an image in to it, such as an outline of a
slice of cake or a cup of coffee, just to emphasize our main products.
• Cocktail menu - attractive design and great use of image. An alternate version could present a few examples of the cocktails we
will serve.
• Menu - good idea to split the menu up in to the headings of 'Savoury' and 'Sweet'. We like the way the blue stands out against
the grey. Also a great idea to put the allergy advice at the bottom. May be good to put on the food part at the top that it is the
'Brunch Menu', in case we decide to develop menus for other parts of the day.
Leaflet - Love the vibrancy of the yellow and the use of the contrasting colours in the headings and logo. This really works well
together and attracts the eye, which is the main aim for the leaflet. Also great use of the heading 'Relaunch' to emphasize the
change of image. It may be good to see what the leaflet would look like with a main heading at the top of 'Under New
Ownership'. Just to emphasize the changes.
Well done with it all, we can tell that you have put a lot of work in to it.
I am really pleased that my client wants to use my pieces and is very pleased with my pieces of work, I am also taking into
account the slight details she would have liked differently and I am willing to change them for the future if she wishes me to in
order for her to use my work.

  • 3. Management Regarding general management of the project I would say I am pleased with how it has turned out and I managed to complete all the work without being hugely overran. A lot of the ideas were off my own back because my client did not have very in depth ideas for things like the logo and menu, so they actually requested I just use my own ideas. In regard to which pieces of work I think I managed the best, I would say the logo came easiest to me as I had the idea for that almost straight away, another one of my pieces that ideas came easily to me for was the relaunch flyer, this is because I decided the best thing to do to show people what Stanley & Ramona offered was to give them a brief description of the menu because I thought that was the main thing people want to know about a café, what it offers, then the decision to make it mustard was fairly quickly decided as my client wanted the flyer to stand out, so I made it mustard because that is the brightest colour in their colour scheme. The pieces of work that were not so easy but still quite manageable in the end were: first of all the menu, I struggled with this for a while when starting off because it was difficult to decide where to position the text, once I figured that out the thing I struggled with most was which font to use, I found that the logo I had chosen was very nice and fitted well with my clients requests, but it was very difficult to get other fonts to match with it. In the end I decided to use a simpler font for the menu’s content. The other piece of work that was a little trickier than the others was the cocktail evening poster, this is because I had to make all the cocktails, then take pictures of them for the poster and then cut out the background because I wanted it to be a plain colored background. Once this was done I was getting more ideas together and I then had to decide which fonts to use for the text I wanted introducing the cocktail evening and the address for the café. This took me longer than I expected to decide, eventually I found a font I liked and discovered that it helped to make the ‘cocktail evening’ text the same colour as the logo, this tied it all in nicely and made it match better, which helped the fonts go together even more. I also used this font for the address underneath the ‘cocktail evening’ text too.
  • 4. Time management and agreed timescales Time management was not an issue for me at all in this project because during planning I created a production schedule so that I knew what I had to work on each day and when it needed to be completed by, this worked well for me because it made it so that I had contingency time at the end which I used to make some slight adjustments to my menu at my client’s request due to a few new items on the menu. Similarly with the agreed timescales, the last day of production was Friday 19th May, but due to my client adding some options to the menu I ran over that time a little but still little enough to manage to finish the work off.
  • 5. Communication management When requesting my brief from my client, I outlined what I was able to do for her, and the different pieces I was offering to do. She came back to me and requested for me to make a new logo for the café, a menu, cocktail evening poster and a relaunch flyer. I never actually got a paper copy of the brief, but an emailed version was enough for me to understand and we still agreed upon it the same. My communication with my client throughout the project was fairly regular in a sense that when I had a question to ask I would email and let her know how I was getting on then adding anything at the end I needed to ask her, she would then reply in a day or two and I would have the information I needed.
  • 6. Meeting brief requirements and agreed outcomes Brief requirements: • Logo • Menu • Relaunch flyer • Cocktail evening poster • Colour scheme – dark grey, white, a ‘small amount’ of blue and mustard. Logo – This is definitely a piece of work I would say in which I have met the brief requirements and agreed outcomes, this was easily done because all my client provided me for this piece of work was a colour scheme, and she requested that the rest would be left up to me as she wanted me to use my own ideas. From this I am more than happy with how my logo has turned out, as I have made it look very simple yet modern and trendy, whilst also using the colour palate I was given. Menu – Out of all the pieces of work I completed I would say this is the hardest one to complete and gain ideas for, nonetheless I am still very happy with how my menu has turned out because it displays what Stanley & Ramona have to offer very clearly yet it still looks aesthetically pleasing and matches with the colour scheme. This is exactly what my client requested in her brief, she wanted it simple but yet to still look nice, and I feel I have definitely achieved this. Relaunch flyer – My client requested the relaunch flyer to be bright and she wanted it to project their image to the public and show what they have to offer. To achieve this I decided to make a brief copy of the menu choices, so just like the menu I had a savoury and sweet section, then hot drinks, cold drinks and milkshakes. I displayed the text in a slightly different way to the menu as I did not include prices because I felt it was not necessary to include this information because it generally is not what people look for or want to know on/from a relaunch flyer. I also chose the background to be mustard from their colour palate because it was the brightest and I thought that it would be quite eye-catching. Cocktail evening poster –
  • 7. New skills and knowledge for future tasks This project has definitely helped me gain new skills with Photoshop because I have had to carry out the editing process alone without any help so anything I was not sure on I had to figure out myself. The tools I used the most when creating my pieces of work are the polygon lasso tool, quick selection tool and adjustments like brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, levels/curves and the colourise tool. In future tasks this will mean I will be confident on my ability to work alone and make various pieces of work alone and I will know Photoshop and it’s tools well so I will feel confident to use that also.
  • 8. Feedback I have received feedback from my client regarding the pieces of work I had sent her. • Logo - We like the 'Stanley and Ramona' logo that you have created as it is vibrant and would attract our target audiences. It says to a customer that our image is friendly and fun. It could be good to incorporate an image in to it, such as an outline of a slice of cake or a cup of coffee, just to emphasize our main products. • Cocktail menu - attractive design and great use of image. An alternate version could present a few examples of the cocktails we will serve. • Menu - good idea to split the menu up in to the headings of 'Savoury' and 'Sweet'. We like the way the blue stands out against the grey. Also a great idea to put the allergy advice at the bottom. May be good to put on the food part at the top that it is the 'Brunch Menu', in case we decide to develop menus for other parts of the day. Leaflet - Love the vibrancy of the yellow and the use of the contrasting colours in the headings and logo. This really works well together and attracts the eye, which is the main aim for the leaflet. Also great use of the heading 'Relaunch' to emphasize the change of image. It may be good to see what the leaflet would look like with a main heading at the top of 'Under New Ownership'. Just to emphasize the changes. Well done with it all, we can tell that you have put a lot of work in to it. I am really pleased that my client wants to use my pieces and is very pleased with my pieces of work, I am also taking into account the slight details she would have liked differently and I am willing to change them for the future if she wishes me to in order for her to use my work.
