Research
I got three images of each game and I analysed them. I analysed the image by the
angle and effect of the image, the lighting if there was any used, the colours of the
image and how it would appeal to my audience and why my audience would play this
game. This helped me with my game to show what my audience would like and to see
if they would be interested in my game. Also, I did an audience profile. This is where I
talked about the age range my game will appeal to, gender, psychographic and social
status. This helped me to make my game so my audience would like it. Another type
of research I did was, make a ghost game as an extra. My ghost game was the ghost
collecting treasure to the end. If I did this game again I would add a score for every
time the ghost got the treasure and make the game longer so then the ghost actually
collected all of the treasure. Also, I would add in a finish line and added ‘WINNER!’ at
the end of the game.
Planning
I researched three different games: Candy Crush, Space Invaders and Asphalt Nitro
and did a mind map talking about the colours that were used, what kind of
background and how it fits in with the game, if there were any characters in them
games and the objects within the game. I then did another mind map with the final
game I was going to do. I put together Candy Crush and Space Invaders and made
Candy Invaders and I discussed those points again. This helped me because it helped
me pick out the colours, the background, the characters and the objects within the
game. Another piece of research I did was make a mood board. I collected some
images from the Internet of each game and made a mood board. This helped visually
to see what my game will look like in the end.
Time Management
I was ill for the week when we came back so I was behind. But when I got back I
started my game. If I hadn’t of missed that week then I would have been finished now.
When I came into college in the second week, I started with game. By Wednesday, the
game was nearly done. On Tuesday and Thursday, the two days we had off I did all my
course work then. This meant at college I could get on with my game knowing my
Power Points were nearly finish. If I had more time to do work then I would go back to
doing the ghost game because I feel like I didn’t complete that fully. By improving that I
could then improve my course work.
Technical Qualities
The top game is the original Space Invaders
and the game at the bottom is my game
Candy Invaders. The difference between the
two games are there is only one spaceship
in the top game and my game has three
spaceships. Another difference is the top
game has aliens and my game has candy.
Also, Space Invaders has borders which my
game doesn’t. Space Invaders has more
lives than my game because I have three
spaceships at once instead. My game also
has a score which you can see more. Some
similarities are the colour of he background
which is black.
Aesthetic Qualities
My game looks good because it is creative and visual.
I have thought about the colour scheme
and the background which is effective as it looks like you are in space and then the
space ships are shooting lasers at the candy.
A weakness would be the two lasers on space ships one and three.
They are still there because I had forgotten to double check my work and make sure
they were hidden from the other layers before I made it into a movie. This is also, what
I would improve on it.
Another improvement would be (if I had enough time) to add more candy into the game
so then it didn’t look so empty in places.
Audience Appeal
This appeals to my target audience because it is bright and colourful.
It is from two popular games so it is appealing to all social status’.
I aimed my game at 16+ because it sounded reasonable for this game. However,
after making the game I would probably change the age because it isn’t violent
and it is suitable for a younger age group.
Peer Feedback
Feedback 1
What did you like about the product?
It was colourful, I like the triple blast at the end and it shows extreme
intelligence.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The animation is unsteady.
Feedback 2
What did you like about the product?
I like the sound effects, the graphics are top notch. I like the colours!
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The spaceships should have moved at the same as the candy.
Feedback 3
What did you like about the product?
I like the fact that it resembles space invaders a bit and that it actually looks
like it is blasting the candy rather than just evaporating into thin air.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
Make the spaceships not hold the lasers before they shoot them.
Peer Feedback Summary
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agreed with the spaceships which shouldn’t hold the lasers before them
shooting which is where I made mistake. I forgot to take the lasers off the
layers so they didn’t appear on all the layers. So they just ended up staying
there.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
There is nothing I disagree with. All feedback is good advice improvement.
Peer Feedback Summary
I would have changed the space ships holding on to the lasers because
they were not meant to be there, so I should have really double checked
my work. Otherwise, I wouldn’t really know what to improve on except
from the feedback I got from my peers. I would make the space ships
move at the same time as the candy so it didn’t look odd. Another
improvement was to make the animation more steady. By this, he meant
that the first laser shooting was slower than the others, so basically
saying to make the frames the same time length or make the movements
of the lasers the same.
