Evaluation of college magazine front cover and content features
1. Evaluation Of College Magazine Front Cover and Content Features.
My college magazine is developed and formed for the conventions of a real college magazine because it incorporate a medium-shot of a girl which could be seen as a student, she is standing in a library and is not looking to glamorous or dressed up, either for an occasion but also for the photo. Therefore, the photo may look like as if a student or staff from the actual college may have taken the photograph.
The magazine represents social groups of any class and gender. The reason for this is because the magazine is made for a college with that particular group or gender, therefore this could be both seen in a female private school, but also in a both gender non-private school to allow and target all kinds of audiences, from both higher to lower class.
The way that the audience is targeted is by the graphology of the photograph and the typography of the text and the mast head. The mast head does not drag any particular gender audience, as the font is just a normal classic white front with typefaces to give it a more serious and sophisticated look-as college magazine needs to be. However, to make the magazine more interesting I have decided to make the front cover a bit more colourful and not so dull and boring, therefore for the text I did use a colour of navy blue which would work well with the theme of the college colour, which is navy blue, but to also make the front cover a bit more fun and targeted to the audience I added other colours as well. I did add pulls and text which would relate and attract the audience so that they would look at the cover and feel that the students wants to have a look and see what’s inside of the magazine. To make the magazine a bit more fun, I added a few other things that would make the students at the college interested, for example the Art Competition entry-this would mostly however be targeted at people who are probably doing Art as a subject as they are probably the people interested in art, however other students who just wants to have fun and likes art as a hobby would also be able to take part.
In the development and progression of the college magazine I have learned to really consider and think about what and how I, as a student would like the college magazine to look like and adapt to that. I got inspired by other magazines and how I have seen the layout of the front cover to look like.
The contents page, however I thought was a bit trickier because I did not know how the layout should be and what I should include. On the other hand, after looking in some magazines and getting inspiration from them I came up with different contents and how the layout should be. Even though the page may be only written text and a black white background, the photos and the colours makes the page balanced to interest the target audience. The inspiration came from the four magazines I analysed and they all had a white background. This is comprehensible because it allows the audience to clearly see what the magazine contains and they can easily find what they want to find with the page number and what that page includes in news and information.
Lastly, if I did have more time I would probably try to find a bit more fun text to add in there just to attract even more students of the audience, and to allow a bit more outside news as well as college news and educational news.
