PRELIMINARY TASK FINAL
Front page Contents Page
Evaluation:
I think my overall magazine front page and contents page design was very successful and does appeal to the target audience of young people, I am now going to evaluate my choice of images.
My front page image is of three male students dressed smartly in their uniform, I decided to have one of the boys as the main focus as his happy expression would attract my target audience as
they would be curious and want to purchase the magazine to find out why he looks so happy. I lowered the opacity so the image could have text placed on top of it , which allowed me to follow
the magazine key code and conventions. On my contents page I used a selection of four different images which all related to the pages so that the target audience reading my magazine can
automatically find a article which interests them by looking straight at the images instead of reading the writing. My four images are all different, I have used two young female students for one
image as I believe this image relates strongly to the article about “how to succeed in school” as they obviously are succeeding due to their happy expressions and smart uniform. The other image
I used was a close up shot of a young boy who looks as if his shouting, I chose to use this image as it relates to the article about extra curricular clubs, from the image you can assume this boy is
involved in a drama production which is a form of extra curricular clubs. Finally the other two images are of still objects ( books and buildings ) these images are very simple but illustrate what the
article is going to be about, I chose to use these on my contents page as I think they are simple and can be interpreted by my target audience.
Next I am going to evaluate my colour scheme, the three main colours I chose to use were, red, blue and yellow, I chose blue and yellow because they are the schools colour scheme, and due to
myself making a magazine with the genre being about education I decided to do the same, so by keeping the colour scheme the same as the schools it instantly appeals to the target audience as
they are aware that the magazine will be about the school. Yellow also has connotations of happiness, so I want my magazine to be viewed as positive so I decided to include it throughout the
magazine. I also chose to include red as it is bright and appeals to both sexes. The colour scheme is continuous throughout my magazine so it shows organisation and makes the magazine look
more attractive which appeals to my target audience.
Next I shall be evaluating my choice of font, for the magazine mast head “HAYDON” I chose Gill Sans Mt Ext condensed in size “280” I chose this as I wanted it to be the main convention
On my magazine, I also decided to have it in capitals and in such a large font so it was easily noticeable and so that the magazine brand could be easily noticed through its name as are other
successful magazine brands such as “LOOK” and “Ok magazine” . This font and size continued onto my contents page so that the magazine had continuity keeping the idea of organization. On the
front page the side writing was in bold Franklin Gothic , I chose this font as it could be read easily and was noticeable but didn’t take the attention away from the headline. On my contents page
the titles for the articles were in the font AGENCY FB , I chose this font choice because it was similar to the mast head keeping the idea of continuity so the magazine “flowed” throughout, this
font could also be read easily which was a main concept that I wanted to include for my target audience.
Lastly I am going to evaluate my positioning of the magazine logo, I chose to place it in the right hand corner on every page of the magazine, I chose to have it in the same place all the time so
that my magazine was “continuous” throughout and also so that the logo would became a key part of the franchise and people would be able to know what magazine they are purchasing
through the positioning of the logo. I decided to have the logo as the school stag so that my target audience would automatically know the magazine will be about the school and hopefully
purchase it for their own benefit.
Finally I am very pleased with the design of my magazine front and contents page as I think it was attractive and appealed to my target audience due to my choice in images, colour scheme and
font choice. However for my final magazine design I shall be making a few alterations to my magazine so that it is really successful and interesting to my target audience.
