The document discusses the effectiveness of combining a short film with ancillary tasks of a poster and film review. The objectives were to produce a 5 minute short film and two additional promotional pieces. Both the poster and review utilized similar dark color schemes, fonts, and images to effectively portray the drama genre of the film and themes of anger, loneliness, and alcohol dependency within the main character. The combination of the film and ancillary tasks provided an engaging promotional experience that linked the visual and written elements.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

How effective is the combination of
your main product &
ancillary tasks?
Evaluation Question: 2
2. +
The brief of our assignment
The main objective of our coursework was to produce a short film which lasted approximately 5
minutes. The product was to be a genre of our choice ranging from that of an action to a romance.
After the production, we were to create a poster for our short film and also a film review.
Extracted from OCR:
Production Brief
We will be producing a short film in its entirety, lasting approximately five minutes, which will be live
action, together with two of the following three options:
a poster for the film;
A radio trailer for the film;
A film magazine review page featuring the film.
3. +
What was the objective of Your ancillary task?
Fundamentally, we were to use our ancillary tasks in order to promote our film
using both visual and written text platforms – those being the film poster and the
film review respectively.
Both tasks were to be attractive to our target audiences and were to relate to our
final product so that the audience could visually understand not only the genre of
the product but also, the overall storyline – perhaps not just by using one of these
methods of promotion, but both – together.
I aimed to produced a final piece for both the review and magazine in high
standard and by doing so I had used the software known as ‘Photoshop’ and
ensured that the images I had captured for these texts were taken on a high quality
camera to ensure that when printed, it was not pixelated and once again, attractive
for my target audience.
4. + How did my poster meet the drama genre?
The character of Eldon has
a red tie and the colour red
not only represents pain
but also, hurt, frustration
and anger. This alone
connotes the genre of the
film.
Eldon’s stance/body language
seems quite dominant and strong
which would be deemed normal as a
high school teacher however, his
contrasting hand in his pockets may
allow the audience to see he is cut
off and scared, that he wants to be
alone and away from the world. This
image is similar to the film ‘The
Falling’.
I instructed Eldon to be holding his
briefcase in this image as it
connotes and represents his
professionalism and superiority
which adds to his job title yet
contrasts with his actual lifestyle
which is weak and constantly
suffering.
The tagline of the posters
keywords are ‘fighting’ and
‘battles’ these strong words
relate to the genre and
emphasises the reasons
behind the colour of Eldon’s
tie.
The title ‘Implosion suggests that
perhaps Eldon is to Implode at
some point in the film.

Font choices for my poster
The credits on my film was used in the
normal billing block font named ’Credit
Block’ This consists of the director’s name,
main characters’ name and other
important roles throughout the production
For both the title of the production and the main
characters’ names, I used the font named
‘Copperplate Gothic Bold/Light’. This font is clear, was
made bold in some cases in order to stand out and
also, I felt it somehow matched up with the genre of
the production as unlike a horror, it didn’t have a curly
almost mystical look, but rather, an eye-grabbing and
simplistic one with a colour scheme to match up.
6. + Font choices for my review
I felt it was extremely
important for this to stand out
so viewers would be aware it
is available to watch and to
add to the general attractive
look and so I used an easy to
read font named ‘Myriad
Pro’.
The font for the actual title
of the production was
‘Cooperblack Gothic Bold’,
this was used as it was
simplistic and stood out
The general text used
the font ‘Times New
Roman’ and I felt this
was a classic font and
would give it the appeal
and the feel of a film
review.
For other parts of the
review, other types of
fonts were used in order
to avoid confusion as to
what are the main points
and what should really
stand out such as
‘Perpetua Titling’
7. +
Images used within my film review
This image is a clear depitction of the anger the
character of Eldon feels, the placement of his hands and
threatening and his arms taking up the majority of the
lower end of the image shows his domineering side due
to the alcohol. On the other hand, the character of
James appears frightened as his high school teacher is
in his face, threateningly.
This image is not so contrasting as in both the images,
Eldon seems to be in a negative form or mood. The
bottle of alcohol in his hand signifies his reliance on the
beverage and also it’s almost as though this is the
reason as to why Eldon is really behaving this way as
the alcohol wears off; he becomes irritant and extremely
aggressive.
8. +
Image used within my film poster
This image portrays the character of Eldon as:
Strong
Successful
Domineering
Authoritative
… However once having actually watched the production, thie audience is aware
that this is not the case, it’s almost a complete contrast. In fact, the all three
sides to the character of Eldon are shown in the two images in the film review
and this one. Eldon used to be strong, he used to be happy and generally
speaking, had a much better lifestyle, however this all went downhill when he
had went through the breakup with his wife and lost his daughter due to it all. He
then became the two images shown in the film review. Eldon’s facial features
and his shadowy figure may all portray the things above, however, his hand in
his pocket portrays something entirely different; the way he really is, scared,
lonely and feels the world is against him, it’s almost as though he is cowering
away.
9. +
How did my film review explore the final product
My film review had used a certain colour which
I personally felt matched up to the actual
production, as mentioned before, the colours all
relate to the genre, the storyline and general
negativity which this production seems to
revolve around. The quotations from other well
known magazines also relate to the production
as they use words that allow the audience to be
aware of the fact that it is the film to watch and
audiences should be able to sympathise with
the character of Eldon. The general text for the
main body explains the directors reasoning as
to why she created the short film which does
explore the final product in terms of the
reasoning behind the creation of which shows
there is some form of significance behind the
text. Also, the images had been taken on set
and this reflects Eldon’s lifestyle.
10. +
Colour scheme
The main colour scheme throughout my ancillary tasks are the colours:
Black – a strong colour which may signify many different emotions, love, hatred anger, etc.
However, in this production, the main reason it is used to symbolise Eldon’s emotionless
being and blank state – one that doesn’t care and is truly depressed.
Red – this colour is an equally powerful colour used throughout – in the film review, the film
poster and even in the production i.e. the character of Eldon’s tie.
Eldon is a hurt character, dependent on alcohol and feels he is worthless, lonely and In pain;
in pain from losing his wife and daughter after an awful breakup.
I generally feel that both colours equally as powerful and strong symbolise may things and have an effective outcome, they are
eye catching colours and also relate to the genre of the production – a drama.

Summary
To conclude, I felt that both the combination of my film review and poster are very effective. Both tasks link in
terms of the colour scheme, the images, the feel of the genre, and the general written texts.
The main words used are:
Implosion
Alcohol dependency
Anger
Loneliness
And I feel these words are used in both ancillary tasks and are without a doubt connoted throughout the 5 minute
production.
