HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
BY JADE CHOPRA
HOW THE THREE PRODUCTS ARE
CONNECTED
• As a group we have developed three products for the original artists, The Him. This included a promotional
music video for Balance (the remix by Bastian Lorenz), a complete 6-panel digipak for an album and a
magazine poster to promote the album.
• In order to link our three products and make them connected and recognisable to our target audience, we
have looked at synergy in order to have synergistic elements to help draw correlation between our three
products. Synergy is vital in promotion, therefore, we made sure to have similar features to keep our work
interlinked and recognisable.
MUSIC VIDEO
 In order to create any print text,
we had to use our music video as a
basis for the two texts to have
synergy. Having the video as a
foundation for the ancillary texts.
The colours and atmosphere of our
video set a guide for as to follow for
our genre of House.
MAGAZINE ADVERT
 The magazine advert uses a shot
from our video’s second location
which creates synergy between the
two products. This was something we
liked because this would allow our
audience to recognise either product
easily. The use of bright colours is a
common theme so it helps the
magazine advert to stand out. It
captures the atmosphere of the video
which would help pull in our target
audience.
DIGIPAK
 The digipak contrasts to the two
products because we wanted it to
appeal to the original artists, The
Him. We kept the colour soft but
still a bold colour to use, so that we
could catch the eye. The use of
intimate images of hands and the
girl smoking capture themes from
the Balance video and the title
“Heart of Glass” suggests the
emotion from the video of the main
character feeling lost and finding
himself and his new group of
friends.
