This document summarizes Jennifer Gregory's media product evaluation:
1) By examining existing magazines like Q and NME, Jennifer was able to understand conventions like balance, symmetry, and the rule of thirds to design her own magazine for a target audience.
2) Jennifer's media product represents teenagers and young adults aged 15-25 interested in indie/rock music. The front cover features a guitar and mentions the band Kings of Leon to convey this.
3) Large media institutions like Bauer Media and IPC Media that distribute over 300 and 350 million copies respectively worldwide would be suitable to distribute Jennifer's magazine broadly.

Evaluation
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When I was first given the coursework task I started to look at existing
magazine products such as Q and NME. By looking at these I was able to get
an understanding of what the intended audiences want from a magazine
and was able to see how both magazines used balance, symmetry, the rule
of thirds and The Guttenberg Design Principles.
How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
The media products I have produced represent teenagers and or young
adults aged between 15-25 both male and female, and people who are
interested in the Indie/Rock genre. To help represent this I ensured the
image used on my front cover had connotations of this genre; such as the
guitar which is the main focus point of the whole image. They are also
represented by the well known band mentioned, Kings of Leon.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
When doing my market research I looked into who distributed different
sorts of magazines. Bauer Media, a well known institution is a worldwide
group which distributes over 300 different magazines to 15 different
countries as well as radio, online and TV.
IPC Media, a consumer magazine and digital publisher situated in the UK is
another large distributing company selling over 350million copies each
year.
Therefore, by knowing this I would intend on using these to distribute my
magazine.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience for my media product is teenagers and or young adults
who are interested in the Indie/Rock genre. It is aimed at both males and
females.
How did you attract/address the audience?
To attract my audience to my magazine I used bold colours to ensure it

stood out when on the shelves, making potential readers pick it up. I
featured a well known band; Kings of Leon on the front cover to attract
people’s attention. To help attract the audience to my magazine I also
advertised a competition on the front to win studio time in a real studio. I
feel this would greatly grab their attention as they would want to read
more and find out about the opportunity.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Whilst constructing my product I have learnt many different skills. I have
learnt how to use a high quality camera; using different buttons for
different affects etc, how to take a good photo successfully using the rule of
thirds. Before this project I had never used Photoshop and I now know
many different skills of how to edit different images in certain ways; as can
be seen on my front cover.
