In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real life
                       products ?

My product uses different forms and conventions of real life
applications in its design and layout, but it also challenges some of
them. One convention that it follows is a main article which is the
largest article heading on the page. This draws the attention of the
viewer to what the designer thinks is the biggest selling point for
the magazine. Choosing only one main image on the cover is
another convention of a music magazine as it will specialist in a type
of music and the artist/image will hopefully reflects that. Another
form that it uses from real life products is the position of articles.
They are either on the left or right hand side and don't cover the
main image that much so that you can easily see it. Magazines on
sale now have a chosen colour scheme and stay with it through out
the magazine and that is what is happening in my magazine. The
colours of Blue, Black and white are seen throughout my magazine.
Although my magazine follows conventions of real life magazines
already on sale it does challenge some of them. One of them that it
challenges is that of the title of the magazine being in the middle of
the page. I done this to make the magazine unique by creating
something different to everything else on the market. Another
convention it goes against is a motto or strap line that many music
magazines have. I decided against this are it draws attention away
from the original name and is unnecessary.
How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

My media product represents certain social groups. One of
these groups is young men,who are interested in this genre of
music and teenagers by having images and articles about them.
With a male figure it shows that this magazine is about males
and therefore will appeal males. The general music genre is rap/
hip hop and i believe you can feel that just by looking at the
cover. And if you can then it has been designed well. The fonts i
have used look trendy and up to date and this will appeal to the
younger ages of which my magazine is targeting.
In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real life
                        products ?

My contents page uses and challenges different conventions of
magazines. One convention that it follows is the content being
positioned on one side, and that is most commonly the left. I
felt forced to follow this convention as by changing it, it would
look completely different to anything on the market and
audiences may find it confusing or awkward to read the
information. It also follows the convention of headings and
subheadings for the articles. The heading introduce the article
to them while the sub heading gives them more information
about it and hopefully draws their attention enough for them
to check it out and read it. It also follows the stereotypical
layout of not containing many images and its primary purpose is
to inform the reader about the contents of the magazine. It
doesn't always follow conventions though and this can be seen
in the article layout. In most magazines there are sub heading
that talk about monthly material or reviews. I decided against
this to give my design more space to ‘breath’ and look spacious
to give a clean and clear look.
How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

The lone person is seen leaning against a wall and this can connote
the sort of behaviour views of teenagers that they have attitude
and go against the norm. Different articles like ‘Must haves for
summer’ will appeal to the male audience and especially males ages
17-22 who might be going on a summer holiday and want to no
the latest summer fashion. Also targets the more musical inspired
individual with tour dates and best song of 2011. These will appeal
to them as they are more dedicated music lovers and they like
talking about music to other people.
In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real life
                    products ?

My double page spread follows quite a few
     conventions of music magazines and
especially rap/hip hop genre type. One of
these conventions that it follows is that of
one main image and it being very large. I
decided to take up one whole page with
only one image to make the article seem
more personal to the reader as they have a
massive image of the artist next to them.
Another convention it follows is taking a
     quote from the article/interview and
enlarging it to be easily seen without
reading the article. I chose to do this as the
viewer will read the quote and act like a
intro to the article. The quote might make
a reader read the article where otherwise
we would have never of bothered reading a
big chuck of text. A convention i chose to
include is that of a interview, and more
specially questions being in one colour and
answers in another. This is to look visually
pleasing on the eye, keep the colour
scheme throughout and to be beneficial to
the reader as it is helpful if they want to
     skip some answers.
How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

I feel the image is big and bold and really
stands out on the page. This can be seen to
represent young adults or teenagers as the
male can easily be seen wearing a bag which
could be a school bag and therefore target
school kids. It also targets the most
rebellious types by using a graffiti like font
to write the name of the artist. This will
appeal to youngsters and graffiti enthusiastic
which are most likely hip hop listeners as
well. The image of the teenager is looking
away from the camera, this could show that
he doesn't like or care that his photo is
being taken. This view is held by many
people and can therefore appeal to a wide
audience.

  • 2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real life products ? My product uses different forms and conventions of real life applications in its design and layout, but it also challenges some of them. One convention that it follows is a main article which is the largest article heading on the page. This draws the attention of the viewer to what the designer thinks is the biggest selling point for the magazine. Choosing only one main image on the cover is another convention of a music magazine as it will specialist in a type of music and the artist/image will hopefully reflects that. Another form that it uses from real life products is the position of articles. They are either on the left or right hand side and don't cover the main image that much so that you can easily see it. Magazines on sale now have a chosen colour scheme and stay with it through out the magazine and that is what is happening in my magazine. The colours of Blue, Black and white are seen throughout my magazine. Although my magazine follows conventions of real life magazines already on sale it does challenge some of them. One of them that it challenges is that of the title of the magazine being in the middle of the page. I done this to make the magazine unique by creating something different to everything else on the market. Another convention it goes against is a motto or strap line that many music magazines have. I decided against this are it draws attention away from the original name and is unnecessary.
  • 3. How does your media product represent particular social groups ? My media product represents certain social groups. One of these groups is young men,who are interested in this genre of music and teenagers by having images and articles about them. With a male figure it shows that this magazine is about males and therefore will appeal males. The general music genre is rap/ hip hop and i believe you can feel that just by looking at the cover. And if you can then it has been designed well. The fonts i have used look trendy and up to date and this will appeal to the younger ages of which my magazine is targeting.
  • 4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real life products ? My contents page uses and challenges different conventions of magazines. One convention that it follows is the content being positioned on one side, and that is most commonly the left. I felt forced to follow this convention as by changing it, it would look completely different to anything on the market and audiences may find it confusing or awkward to read the information. It also follows the convention of headings and subheadings for the articles. The heading introduce the article to them while the sub heading gives them more information about it and hopefully draws their attention enough for them to check it out and read it. It also follows the stereotypical layout of not containing many images and its primary purpose is to inform the reader about the contents of the magazine. It doesn't always follow conventions though and this can be seen in the article layout. In most magazines there are sub heading that talk about monthly material or reviews. I decided against this to give my design more space to ‘breath’ and look spacious to give a clean and clear look.
  • 5. How does your media product represent particular social groups ? The lone person is seen leaning against a wall and this can connote the sort of behaviour views of teenagers that they have attitude and go against the norm. Different articles like ‘Must haves for summer’ will appeal to the male audience and especially males ages 17-22 who might be going on a summer holiday and want to no the latest summer fashion. Also targets the more musical inspired individual with tour dates and best song of 2011. These will appeal to them as they are more dedicated music lovers and they like talking about music to other people.
  • 6. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real life products ? My double page spread follows quite a few conventions of music magazines and especially rap/hip hop genre type. One of these conventions that it follows is that of one main image and it being very large. I decided to take up one whole page with only one image to make the article seem more personal to the reader as they have a massive image of the artist next to them. Another convention it follows is taking a quote from the article/interview and enlarging it to be easily seen without reading the article. I chose to do this as the viewer will read the quote and act like a intro to the article. The quote might make a reader read the article where otherwise we would have never of bothered reading a big chuck of text. A convention i chose to include is that of a interview, and more specially questions being in one colour and answers in another. This is to look visually pleasing on the eye, keep the colour scheme throughout and to be beneficial to the reader as it is helpful if they want to skip some answers.
  • 7. How does your media product represent particular social groups ? I feel the image is big and bold and really stands out on the page. This can be seen to represent young adults or teenagers as the male can easily be seen wearing a bag which could be a school bag and therefore target school kids. It also targets the most rebellious types by using a graffiti like font to write the name of the artist. This will appeal to youngsters and graffiti enthusiastic which are most likely hip hop listeners as well. The image of the teenager is looking away from the camera, this could show that he doesn't like or care that his photo is being taken. This view is held by many people and can therefore appeal to a wide audience.
