The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program has grown significantly since its establishment in 1916 through the National Defense Act. It began as a small college program but now includes over 1,500 high schools with 273,000 cadets. However, JROTC struggled for many years with lack of funding and support. Major turning points included the 1964 ROTC Vitalization Act which expanded the program, and changes in the 1970s-80s allowing female and lower enrollment minimums that boosted growth. Today JROTC aims to develop strong citizenship through military-style training.

The document discusses the student's media studies evaluation of their magazine product. The student believes their magazine follows conventional layouts such as limiting colors, using a masthead at the top of the front cover, and including a main image on the cover. However, the student also challenged some conventions such as including upcoming stories on the front cover and using a long shot on the contents page. The student aimed to target 16-21 year olds interested in indie music and represented this group through the photos and language used. The document discusses how the author's media product uses and develops conventions from real magazines. The author created a magazine cover, contents page, and double page spread in Photoshop, keeping to the planned color schemes of blue and red. Elements like mastheads, page numbers, web addresses, barcodes, issue dates and prices were included to resemble real magazines and make the author's magazine look professional. The magazine uses, develops, and challenges some conventions of real magazines. It uses conventions like including a barcode, masthead, model on the cover, splash on the cover, and consistent color scheme and typeface. However, it challenges conventions by having the model not on top of the masthead, slanted layout on the contents page with multiple images, and editors note with a picture of the editor. The double page spread challenges conventions by having multiple images on one page and varied image sizes, while keeping the title, pull quotes, and columns as conventions. Overall, the magazine borrows both conventional and unconventional designs from real magazines.

Overall, the document demonstrates how Laura's project draws upon and develops the typical forms and styles seen in established hip hop print media to create realistic and engaging magazine pages.
The product challenges conventions of real music magazines in several ways. It uses three main colors throughout (pink, black, white) like professional magazines. This document discusses how the media product uses and challenges conventions of real magazines.
The author followed several conventions in their front cover, contents page, and double page spread. They used consistent colors, fonts, and featured the same model on each to connect the pieces. Placement of elements like the masthead, date, and barcodes also followed conventions.
Some conventions were challenged, like adding a second image on the cover and using album art on the contents page. Unconventional elements were chosen for readability or to portray the genre, like outlining text.
Overall, the author strived to balance following reader expectations through conventions with original elements to make the magazine stand out, resulting in a product that looks
The document discusses how the media product follows and challenges conventions of real magazines. It follows conventions such as having the masthead at the top, using three colors on the cover page, and locating cover lines on the left side. However, it challenges conventions by using a brick wall background instead of plain, having models with little makeup, and shooting photos at a park instead of a studio. The contents page challenges conventions by not using many images but was inspired by Vibe magazine.

The author analyzes examples from NME magazine to inspire conventions used in their own magazine design.
The photographer had clear ideas for sexy but decent poses for their 17-year-old model to attract a male gaze but appear older. Test shots were taken with the first model and two male models to determine angles before focusing on the main model, who was the photographer's best friend, making the shoot easy to complete in under two hours. The photographer then edited the best photos using Piknik.
The double page spread features an interview with a popular artist. Key details like the artist's name are displayed prominently in bold font. The questions are shown in pink and answers in black, following conventional magazine formatting. In what way does your media
product use, develop or

conventions of real media
products?
2. • Before producing my front cover, double page spread and contents
page, I had a brief idea of what my magazine would look like, this
was mainly because I had looked at different examples of R&B
magazines and preferred some to others. The types of things I
would include, to make sure my magazine was kept conventional,
are shown below and these could also allow me to challenge and
develop my ideas:
• - The masthead on my front cover
• - Bursts or splashes
• -Teasers
• - Three colour themed rule
• - Sell lines
• - Main image dominating the front cover
• -Fashion extras
• - Bar code and price
• -Email address
• - Colloquial language
• - Interview
• - One page on the double page spread, which was mainly my model.
3. FRONT COVER.
On the front cover, I have followed conventions by using a masthead, teasers, three coloured scheme

I am going to indelicate the types of things I did to keep conventions, in relation to this
example. However, the main thing that I couldn’t do was display the background and the title,
in the same way the example has, which I was really disappointed about.

When it came to making my double page spread I had in mind already that I wanted a main

it didn’t do this, so I
developed conventions.
I made sure the models

so the audience could see

based mine on also did
this.
When researching R&B magazines, I came across
they put quotes in the middle of the page to display
what the model had said- I really liked this! So used it
in my spread to attract the audience to certain quotes
and give them hints into what she talks about. This
also linked to keeping conventions.
6. Here is my double page spread and the R&B example that I used. Again, I wanted to keep as many
conventions as possible, so none were broken. However, my example magazine did not do an
interview, it was a real life story, although I didn’t want to do this so i tried to develop conventions and
look at over examples that displayed an interview. The ones I did see, did follow my idea of breaking
up the questions and answers using colours so I continued to do this as my own idea. I am now going
to indicate, again, the things I did to keep conventions or liked the idea of what the example had.

7. Contents Page
For my contents page, I wanted to keep basing it on another R&B example. However, the one I
did want to base it on was very confusing as I think it had three pages worth of contexts so I
couldn’t do it this as it would have been very time consuming. This therefore meant I had to try
and fit as much on the one page as possible, but I did have to miss some bits out. However, here
below is my contents page:

8. Here is my contents page and the R&B example that I based it on. With this piece of work i did
purposely try to follow as many as conventions as possible because I couldn’t research many content
pages as there weren't many at all. I am again going to indicate the things I have concentrated on and
looked at, in order to keep my contents page conventional
9. Overall
Altogether, I think I have worked well in order to keep as
mainly conventions as possible on my front cover,
contents pages and double page spread. However, I
could have done more to develop and challenge
conventions but I was worried the outcome of doing that
wouldn’t link back to an R&B magazine.
