1. Researchers Nicolas Robinson-Garcia, Phillipe Mongeon, Wei Jeng, and Rodrigo Costas presented findings from a study evaluating DataCite's potential for developing open data metrics on the global production and usage of datasets.
2. The study examined which countries are most active in sharing data through DataCite and whether certain disciplines are more biased towards data sharing. It also looked for evidence of data reuse by analyzing whether researchers are using DataCite DOIs to link papers to datasets or mentioning datasets through social media.
3. Preliminary results showed the top countries contributing data to DataCite, the types of data being shared, limitations in analyzing data citations due to heterogeneity in data publishing
Can we use altmetric at institutional level?Torres Salinas
This paper aims at exploring the coverage of the Altmetric.com database and its potential use in order to show universities’ research profiles in relationship with other databases. Specifically, our objectives are the following:
1. Analyse the coverage of Altmetric.com at the institutional level and verify its validity as a data source for obtaining alternative metrics derived from the research activity of universities in comparison with those from the Web of Science. For this, we will work with a small sample of four Spanish universities.
2. Analyse coverage differences when obtainin bibliometric profiles from Altmetric.com and Web of Science. In some studies a higher coverage of the Social Sciences and Humanities has been reported, suggesting the potential of altmetric indicators in these areas (Costas, Zahedi, & Wouters, 2015b).

presented at the Geneva Workshop on Innovations in Scholarly Communication (OAI9), Geneva, June 18, 2015
Science is in transition. If all goes well, the transition is towards more open, efficient and honest/reproducible practices. Libraries should move with this change by supporting open science instead of just open access. Building on their successful project "101 innovations in scholarly communication" Jeroen Bosman and Bianca Kramer present their interpretations of what is going on and can be expected in the six phases of the research cycle. They have tested their hypothetical workflows and show how real, day-to-day research workflows are changing from traditional to modern, innovative and experimental. These changes are reflected in tools and sites people use in various phases of that workflow. They might for example change from Web of Science → SPSS → Word+Endnote → Nature → ResearcherID → Impact Factors to Sparrho → ROpenScience+IPythonNotebooks → WriteLateX+Docear → The Winnower → Kudos → Publons+PubPeer. The way new generations of researchers work affects how information will be discovered, re-used, created, shared, communicated and assessed. There are huge opportunities for libraries and other stakeholders to contribute and work with the research community, but only if they are well prepared!

Survey on Common Strategies of Vocabulary Reuse in Linked Open Data Modeling ...JohannWanja
The choice of which vocabulary to reuse when modeling and publishing Linked Open Data (LOD) is far from trivial. There is no study that investigates the different strategies of reusing vocabularies for LOD modeling and publishing. In this paper, we present the results of a survey with 79 participants that examines the most preferred vocabulary reuse strategies of LOD modeling. The participants, LOD publishers and practitioners, were asked to assess different vocabulary reuse strategies and explain their ranking decision. We found significant differences between the modeling strategies that range from reusing popular vocabularies, minimizing the number of vocabularies, and staying within one domain vocabulary. A very interesting insight is that the popularity in the meaning of how frequent a vocabulary is used in a data source is more important than how often individual classes and properties are used in the LOD cloud. Overall, the results of this survey help in better understanding the strategies how data engineers reuse vocabularies and may also be used to develop future vocabulary engineering tools.

Has anyone seen my data? Incentivising #opendata sharing with altmetricsNick Sheppard
As an important component of the scholarly record, research data, software and code are increasingly managed as research outputs in their own right, though are not typically subject to peer review.
In line with the broader ‘open research’ movement there is a growing impetus for datasets, software and code to be curated in repositories, openly available wherever possible subject to relevant legal and ethical constraints.
Data repositories such as Figshare, Dryad and Zenodo routinely allocate DOIs for deposited data while many universities in the UK also allocate and mint DOIs in their nascent institutionally based data repositories through Datacite which means they will be automatically tracked by altmetric.com in the same way as journal articles.
While the repository infrastructure continues to develop and there are pockets of best practice, data sharing and reuse is not yet fully established across UK HE. Reward mechanisms are immature and data citation, for example, is limited and not easy to track. Clarivate Analytics’ Data Citation Index coverage of UK based repositories is still relatively low and, as a subscription based product, is not widely accessible. COUNTER compliant downloads can be derived from IRUSdata-UK (beta) which currently tracks 27 UK based institutional data repositories.
Altmetrics therefore offers a low barrier method to track engagement with datasets and, in lieu of a more formal process, might be regarded as a type of informal peer review. We have undertaken a preliminary analysis of repositories that participate in IRUSdata-UK (beta) using it as a source of DOIs to run against the altmetric.com API to discover to what extent research data, software and code is being shared.
This talk will present these preliminary results and explore how and why datasets are being shared across the various platforms tracked by altmetric.com and potential barriers. It will consider how data repository managers can encourage and facilitate data sharing through social media networks, blogs and “data journalism” and will draw on the Research Data Management (RDM) Engagement Award at the University of Leeds which is exploring linking RDM with the Open Science movement via the Wikimedia suite of tools. What does the altmetric data currently tell us about how research data is being linked to this global platform

There is evidence that good data practice leads to increased citation, increased reproducibility, increased productivity, reduced harm and costs of biased or non-transparent research, and that it helps researchers with career progression and provides a better return on investment in research funding. In this presentation we will share feedback on data sharing from a survey of more than 11,000 researchers globally, as well as evidence from our own implementation of standardised data policies and the work of the Research Data Alliance’s Data Policy Implementation Interest Group.

Speaker: Hyoungjoo Park, PhD candidate, School of Information Studies, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Dietmar Wolfram, PhD
Overview: It is increasingly common for researchers to make their data freely available. This is often a requirement of funding agencies but also consistent with the principles of open science, according to which all research data should be shared and made available for reuse. Once data is reused, the researchers who have provided access to it should be acknowledged for their contributions, much as authors are recognised for their publications through citation. Hyoungjoo Park and Dietmar Wolfram have studied characteristics of data sharing, reuse, and citation and found that current data citation practices do not yet benefit data sharers, with little or no consistency in their format. More formalised citation practices might encourage more authors to make their data available for reuse.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
