Music magazine evaluation By jerrelle
I begun my contents page by placing in the main image. The image consist of two laid back males which are within close proximity to portray their relationship. The third male who is crouching down is placed a bit away the two males to represent his introverted behaviour. i did this pose to represent the chilled and distant behaviour of jazz Contents page construction
i imported the background which I made on photoshop. This back ground colour follows threw the theme of my magazine. I have used this theme to make the pictures and text stand out more in my magazine.
The brown text is a colour that I have used threw out my magazine. I have used this colour for my text because it mixes nicely with the background but still stands out. It also follows the main themes of jazz which is mellow and relxed.
I also used my masthead on my contents to maintain the effect of “vibe” to my audience who read the magazine. The reason the masthead isn't as big on the contents page compared to the cover is because I want the audience to focus on the picture.
I decided to change the sub-headings of my font to white to make it stand out more on the contents page but not dominate the other colours.
I faded the fences into the background to draw the audiences attention more towards the group placed in front of it. This also gives the effect of a relaxed music magazine.
i made the title of the band unrelated to the text on the rest of the contents page. I did this to bring out the main picture more. I also edited “deep end” to make it look more edgy, connecting to the band name.
I placed the band title above the guitar to draw the audience attention towards the guitar. I did this to give my magazine a more musical theme.
One way in which my contents page challenges a real music magazines contents page is by including a main image with the bands name to give it an identity. It also challenges a real one by including the issue number and the names of the different articles inside the magazine. Another way it challenges a real magazine is by including a title of the magazine in the top left corner of the contents page. This is done to remind the audience of the name of the music magazine.
I begun my article by inserting the background I used for my contents page. I created the borders in Photoshop to contain the text I was going to paste in. the borders and colour of my background also maintain the theme of my music magazine.
The text colour I used for my article was white. I did this to make the article appear a little more different to the other parts of my magazine. I also typed in a strap line “climbing up the ladder to new heights” using an Arial text which doesn’t stand out as much as other text. This was done to make my main image on my article stand out more.
I left one page of my double page article without text and decided to import a plain grey image of a wall which I edited in Photoshop. I did this so that once I placed in my main image it would grab the attention of my audience.
One of the ways in which my completed article challenges a real music magazine article is by centring it around the main image. I did this by using a main image on one side of my double page article for my image. Another way in which my article challenges a real one is by revolving my text around my main image.
I begun my front cover by using my main picture. Character in the image is wearing a simple striped shirt with a sunglasses. This greatly represents the jazz cool laid back theme. The mature shirt also attracts a older audience which was what I was aiming for when I took this picture, due to most jazz fans being of an older age.
I then imported in a wall which I grey scaled in Photoshop and placed into Indesign. I used this wall as background which made my main image look like he was leaning up against the wall. This enhances the effect of jazz being laid back and relaxed.
I finally added the text into my front cover. This made my magazine cover challenge a real music magazine by having a top strip and bottom strip which gave the audience an insight into the magazine. I also made my masthead big to stand out but placed it behind my main image to draw the customers eyes to him. One more thing I did was do some customer research and find out what most people would be willing to spend on a music magazine. I came to the conclusion of £2.99
In what way does your magazine challenge the codes and conventions of a real music magazine The barcode is typical on all music magazines due to it being need for the product to be sold Both magazines have there masthead colour as a theme throughout the front cover. My magazine also has a top strip and bottom strip which gives my audience an idea of what's inside the magazine By saying that it is the NO.1 jazz magazine I attract my jazz audience I also included the price which many magazines do not Both lead stories run along the left hand side of the cover
How does your music magazine represent particular social groups? The contents page also contains instruments which some people on that social group would play instead of the people in the D and E bracket due to there income. my target audience is likely to be C2 or above as disposable l income is needed to attend jazz clubs, play instruments and generally become immersed in the jazz scene which is not considered to be mainstream and therefore more exclusive and ultimately more expensive. When I researched the jazz music tribe I found that there lifestyles were in the C2 and above bracket. I tried to represent this in my music magazine
