Ethan Frome Essay.pdf
1. Ethan Frome Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Ethan Frome" can be a challenging endeavor. The
complexity lies not only in the narrative intricacies of Edith Wharton's novella but also in the
multitude of themes and literary elements that demand exploration. To construct a compelling
essay, one must delve into the characters' motivations, the socio-cultural backdrop of the story,
and the symbolism embedded within the narrative.
Navigating the psychological depths of characters like Ethan, Zeena, and Mattie requires a
nuanced understanding of their interactions and the impact of their choices on the unfolding
tragedy. Analyzing the harsh New England setting and its influence on the characters adds
another layer of complexity. Additionally, dissecting the symbolism, from the sled ride to the
barren landscape, demands a keen eye for literary devices and their contribution to the overall
theme.
The challenge intensifies as one strives to present a unique perspective or argument that
contributes to the existing body of literary analysis on "Ethan Frome." The task is not merely
regurgitating information but rather crafting an insightful narrative that sheds new light on the
novella's profound themes.
Moreover, maintaining coherence and clarity throughout the essay is essential, as the intricate
web of relationships and events in "Ethan Frome" can be daunting for both the writer and the
reader. Striking a balance between providing evidence from the text and offering personal
interpretation without veering into subjectivity adds another layer of difficulty.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Ethan Frome" demands a careful blend of literary analysis,
critical thinking, and eloquent expression. The challenge lies in doing justice to the depth of
Wharton's work while offering a fresh perspective that contributes meaningfully to the discourse
surrounding this classic novella.

2. The Physics of Riding Bulls Essay
The Physics of Riding Bulls
Rodeo is a sport that came about by everyday work being made into competition.
Every event in rodeo has a practical purpose; all but one that is. There is no practical
reason to get on a bull; only the thrills, chills, and rush of excitement. ItВЎВ¦s more
than a challenge between riders. ItВЎВ¦s a challenge between man and beast.
Legendary cowboy Larry Mahan had an even different way of looking at it. He said,
ВЎВ§ItВЎВ¦s not a challenge with the animal but with the weakness in oneВЎВ¦s
selfВЎВЁ. At any rate, itВЎВ¦s all about the challenge.
The challenge is simple; stay on the bullВЎВ¦s back for eight seconds while keeping
one hand fee from contact with the bull or your own body. Well it sounds simple
anyways. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This exerts a force in the opposite direction the bull is going. The force is the
product of the bullВЎВ¦s mass and its acceleration. With a rider on the bullВЎВ¦s
back this force then becomes a combination of the bullВЎВ¦s mass plus the
riderВЎВ¦s mass times the acceleration of both which is attributed only by the bull.
All the rider needs to do in this case is hold on tight. There may be some air
resistance, but it is too small to notice. The bull further complicates the ride by
bucking (a combination of raring, kicking, and jumping). Each component of the
buck is relatively simple. When a bull rares, it creates a force pushing the rider
backwards. When a bull kicks, it creates a force throwing the rider forwards. When
the bull jumps, it creates a force pushing the rider straight upwards. Each force is
once again the product of how fast the bull changes positions (acceleration) and
itВЎВ¦s mass. In each of these situations the bullВЎВ¦s mass is combined with the
riderВЎВ¦s. So, if the combined mass remains the same, all the rider has to do to
counter the force created by the bull is move in the opposite direction as the bull
with and equal acceleration. Acceleration equals the change in velocity divided by
the change in time. The velocity is the change in position divided by the change in
time. Both the bull and the rider can accelerate instantaneously. Therefore the velocity
is the only variable the rider needs to adjust to the counter the bullВЎВ¦s force. If the
distance change
3. The Professional Code Of Conduct Guidelines
I work in a medium secure unit (male and female) as a staff nurse and this includes
mentoring student nurses, shift co ordinating my unit including other units in the
entire hospital. Since we have a common purpose and I offer direction to patients
and other colleagues would suggest a form of leadership as suggested by Hafford
Letchfield (2010). The NMC professional code of conduct guidelines, advocates
for mentors myself included, to encourage the development of students and others
with their competence levels. My personal attributes as per trait theory plays a
major role in ensuring information is delivered appropriately. Kindness,
accessibility and good understanding are some of the attributes I possess. Though
at times, aspects of frustrations and annoyance would be evident when tasks are
not performed as required. Due to the varying traits staff possess, I have learnt to
approach issues differently. One of my styles of leadership is situational leadership.
This ensures leaders tailor their style depending on the circumstance at hand. It s
worth noting that as leaders the varying changes in situations require some form of
flexibility. (SOURCE) advocates that clinical leaders do change their style to work
better with various groups using the approaches of situational leadership.
Nevertheless, having been a mentor only recently, I ensured that I develop my
interpersonal skills by setting an example to students and being a good role model. I
have immensely gained from
4. Love Song Analysis
Love is an intense feeling of attraction . This is how Webster s Dictionary defines
love. It is much more complicated than that though, or maybe we just make it out to
be more complicated, either way it s hard to explain. A few words that characterize
love for me are sacrifice, safe, comfortable, commitment, selfless, trust, and bond.
Loveis more than just a word, it s an action. It is accepting and appreciating
someone for who they are regardless of their flaws and trusting that you ll stick by
one another through thick and thin. It s caring about another person s well being and
happiness more than your own. There are different ways of expressing your love for
another person. There is the romantic love, where there is sexual chemistry... Show

Before picking out my songs I had to ask myself how I was going to analyze them.
I thought about what kind of artists I wanted to use. Did I want to use males or
females, old or young? Should I pick songs that are about new relationships
emerging, old ones growing closer, old ones being maintained, old ones growing
apart, or relationships that are ending? Am I going to use songs about romantic
love or the friend/family kind of love? Should the songs I pick have a positive or
negative opinion about love? What kind of message do I want the songs to
portray? What do these songs mean to me? These are all questions I asked myself
going into this assignment as well as while I was analyzing the songs. I decided
that I was going to use songs that had a little bit of all of these in them. I didn t
want to use just males or just females because personally I think that men and
women sometimes have a different definition of the word love itself so I didn t
want to get just one side of that. Also, I didn t want to pick just new relationships
instead of new and old because again, love might seem different than how it really
is. When you first get into a relationship it s always fun and wonderful and two
people against the world kind of thing, whereas people that have been in a
relationship for a long time know that that s not how it always is. There is always
going to be ups and downs, that s life. I wanted
5. The Importance Of Religion In Religion
Introduction While religion plays a big role in the lives of many throughout the
world, there are some people who are non religious. In fact, a study conducted by
the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2015) reported that 23% of people
claimed no religious affiliation in 2014. Those who are unaffiliated with any
religious group often identify as an atheist, someone who does not believe in God,
or as an agnostic, someone who is unsure if there is a God (Gallup 2014; Kosmin and
Keysar 2009; Pew Forum on Religionand Public Life 2012; Hirsbrunner, Loeffler,
Rompf, 2012). Surveys show that most non religious people do not start out this
way; instead they choose to become non religious as adults (Manning, 2013). The
non religious people who choose to reject the dominant beliefs and practices of their
culture may sometimes face negative reactions from those around them, including
those within their own families (Kalkan, Layman, Uslaner, 2009; Zimmerman,
Smith, Simonson, Myers, 2015). Many atheists reported being ostracized, or having
conflict, with their family members due to revealing their non religious beliefs
(Hunsberger Altemeyer, 2006). A study conducted by Hammer, Cragun, Hwang,
Smith (2012, p.54) showed that out of 796 atheists surveyed: 25% were ignored,
avoided, isolated, or rejected by family members due to their non religious beliefs,
30% were asked by their family to pretend not to be an atheist, and 38% were told by
their family to keep their atheisma secret. However, families who exhibited positive
attributes in their relationships prior to their family member s reveal were less
likely to respond this way (Zimmerman, et al, 2015). Those who grew up in devout
religious families reported greater levels of discrimination than those who were
raised in less religious families (Altemeyer Hunsberger, 1997). While being non
religious can be viewed as a transitional stage by some, many parents who are non
religious choose to remain so, and may also raise their children to be non religious
(Lim, C., MacGregor, Putnam, 2010; Putnam Campbell, 2010). Many non religious
parents begin to think how, or if, they want to incorporate religion into their children s
lives when their children are

BBVA Compass is the fifteenth largest bank in America. In December 2010, they
considered about how to allocate the bank s marketing budget in order to improve
the brand awareness and market share. Based on the data and time line provided in
the case material, this essay will use expected Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) to
measure customer attractiveness versus customer profitability in their marketing
decision making. 1. The role of online and offline advertising.
From its marketing purpose, the major role of offline and online advertising was to
build brand awareness and improve consideration among potential bank customers. In

9. Essay Letter to John Adams from Abigail Adams
Letter to John Adams from Abigail Adams and Letter from John Adams to Abigail
Adams
1.Abigail Adams establishes ethos in the opening paragraph by asking questions
about the issue at hand. By mentioning the Defense Virginia she shows that she is
knowledgeable about the issue at hand, even though she does not yet have a definite
stance on it. The questions show her urgent tone and care for her husband. The
questions show that she is concerned about him and his well being.
2.Abigail tries to convey the general impact of the Revolution in Boston. She chose
the details she did to try show John Adams what has changed in Boston as a result of

He knew it was against universal liberty; but he felt it was not right to give women
such power.
7.The tone of Abigail s letter to John is more sincere than his letter to her. In her
letter you can tell that even though she does not agree with some of his stands on
issues she still loves and supports him. The tone of John s letter is dry, with not
much emotion. He doesn t show much concern for her or her ideals. The only
evidence of intimacy found is when they discuss their children. In Abigail s letter
intimacy is also found when the reader finds that she misses him and worries about
him and when she says she is willing to do anything he needs.
8.If she knew he letter was to be published she probably would have probably not

desperation so she would have written more calmly and collectively.
9.In a world filled with social media the line between public and private hardly
exists. People these days publish anything and everything on line, regardless of how
private it should be. Of course, there are people who don t feel the need to advertise
their every thought, but most do. Society is so desensitized to knowing everyone s
business that they feel it s okay to publish what used to be thought of as
10. Domestic Bias Of Domestic Violence
Domestic Bias in Violence Unprovoked battering. Over the years the term domestic
violence has been given mass popularity in society. This is due to the many highly
publicized events ranging from the Ray Rice s abuse charges all the way to the
murder trial of O.J. Simpson. The term domestic violence has emerged from a vow of
silence in households to a prevalent discussion that has flourished throughout society.
Or has it? Yes, domestic violencehas been recognized as an issue in society. This has
resulted in numerous campaigns to prevent and stop domestic violencefrom occurring
around the world. Due to society s perception and gender roles within, however, the
defining principle of domestic violence has been altered from general violent or
aggressive behavior committed against ones partner, to violence committed by males
against females. Over the past forty years, studies and research have constantly found
that women and men engage in violence at similar rates. Family Violence Surveys
suggest that The phenomenon of husband battering (1977) is as, if not more,
common than wife abuse. However, despite the plentiful evidence and studies that
support this fact, violence committed by females is largely ignored throughout the
areas of literature and media. These areas, instead, choose to consistently suggest that
domestic violence is only committed by males. Through this action, or inaction, to
recognize the general topic within the discussion, the occurrence of female

12. Controversy Over Hand Writing
In a world of evolution, it is often found difficult to accept a new trade or skill that
partially substitutes a skill so commonly used and accepted today. As generations
pass, people discover new things that revival the beliefs of the past and handwriting is
not exempt from this course of evolution. People have hit that critical point of rivalry
between handwriting and its challenger typing. Handwriting is a skill known by
people for centuries and even prior to handwriting people painted or carved to
record information. In today s world, typing keeps becoming more of a key player
and triumphs over hand writing in many aspects. It is imperative to understand the
importance of typing, as much of what college students and employees do... Show

Typing allows people to type at speeds unrivaled by handwriting. This speed can
save people a lot of time especially when it comes to larger manuscripts, such as
papers, reports, or essays. This new found speed allowed an influx of books,
stories, and narratives by allowing the writer to not only record as fast as the speed
of thought, but to also focus more on the content of the work rather than the
legibility. Handwriting has better recall however typing is merely a different form of
recording and as such must be treated differently when studying. Overall typing is
merely another form of recording that breaks the speed constraints of the past, but as
technology advances typing is merely a stepping stone on a much, much larger
13. Law Rules For Registered And Unregistered Titles
Land law holds a reputation for problematic and complex criticism, being built
upon two separate, mutually exclusive, systems: the registered and unregistered
land systems. The consistent application of law in this area depends upon
adherence to legal principle, derived from a clear understanding of the law. First,
this essay will consider a brief history of registration and the enforcement rules
applying to registered and unregistered titles, looking at their distinct characteristics.
Following this, their usage and application will be analysed, in order to place them
into the wider context. Consideration of any differences present will enable us to see
if rules regarding registered system of conveyancing are vastly superior, if at all....

In other words, proof of title is done so by the evidence of documents and
inspection. Unregistered land hosts its own system of independent registration
and it is essential to note it operates completely separate from the registered land
system. Relying heavily on many old doctrines, which characterised land prior to
reform, the distinction of legal and equitable rights is crucial in unregistered land.
Legal interests automatically bind the land and every person who buys or receives
unregistered land. This follows the pre 1926 rule that legal rights bind the whole
world . The single exception to this rule is supplied by the puisne mortgage (there
is no ability to prevent dealings with the land, as the documents of title are not
present and so must be registered as a land charge). Required registration, in
unregistered conveyancing, is evident by equitable interests. These are registered as
land charges under the LCA 1972, and are of great importance in order to bind the
purchaser of unregistered land. Failure to register a land charge renders the interest
void unless, the land is gifted then the purchaser remains bound. However certain
equitable interests, such as beneficial interests behind a trust, are not registrable as
land charges because they are capable of being overreached. A correctly conducted
overreaching transaction transfers the interest in the land to an interest in

STATUTES OF LIMITATIONS IN TEXAS

FROM:MEAGAN CORGEY
SUBJECT:STATUTES OF LIMITATIONS IN TEXAS
DATE:NOVEMBER 4, 2014
Dear Rick, I am writing to you to inform you of the statutes of limitations in Texas
and my thoughts on the topic. Statutes of limitations is the time period in which a
lawsuit or other civil action must be filed, as measured from the date of the incident.
Statutes of limitations can apply to criminal cases, which prohibits prosecutors from
filing criminal after the passage of a specified number of years. The statutes differ
from state to state as well as the statutes for various types of civil actions and crimes.
The legislature of the state of Texas published official revised statutes in 1879, the...

The following crimes have a limit of 10 years in which can be prosecuted; Offenses
related to theft by a fiduciary, theft by a public servant of government property,
forgery, injury to the elderly or disabled, arson, and compelling prostitution. The
following crimes have a seven year limit; misapplication of fiduciary property,
securing execution of a document by deception, money laundering, credit card or
debit card abuse, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, bigamy, and
Medicaid fraud. The following crimes have a five year statute; theft or robbery,
kidnapping or burglary, injury to an elderly or disabled individual, abandoning or
endangering a child, insurance fraud. Sexual performance by a child, if victim

act of three years.
Misdemeanors also have limits on when they can be prosecuted. Here are some;
prostitution, pimping and pandering must be prosecuted within two years,
possession of up to two ounces is two years, theft of property of a value of less
than $50 is two years as well as other misdemeanors. Some exceptions to these
statutes are if the DNA gathered shows no match for the victim of a sexual assault
case, in this said case there would be no limit. The limitation is

Change blindness occurs when the observer does not noticed any changes in their
visual field. In today s society, people tends to be distract by objects such as cell
phone and doesn t look at their surroundings. That happens to me often, usually I
won t notice any changes around me and that included changes of people. I
remember when I was in high school, I used to walk around the building a lot, but
during my junior year, I started to notice there s a new building beside the main
building. It took me long enough to notice it, I never actually look at the changes.
Another story, during my middle school year, there was an girl who s always quiet

16. To Kill A Mockingbird Calpurnia Essay
In To Kill a Mockingbird, Calpurnia is the maid to the Finch family. Harper Lee
uses her as a sort of mother figure to the children, but she is also used as a window
into how oppression has shaped the small town. She is not fully touched upon in the
story and is largely considered a minor character, yet she has a profound impact on
not the main character Scout and the city of Maycomb. In the town of Maycomb
speech distinguishes the Whites from the Blacks. Calpurnia takes Jem and Scout to
her church one Sunday and Scout notes that her maid is using different speech when
talking to the other people of the Black community than when she talks to Atticus or
others of the White community. This is because she knows that she would be
ridiculed and judged in the black community for talking as she talks to the white
community and vice versa. We also see how racial injustice has affected her when
the people of the black community leave food at the Finch house. She explains that
they had done it as a thanks to atticus for standing up for them. She speaks for... Show

As she is a maid it isn t blatantly obvious how she is oppressed more than men or
vice versa, but we see how aunt Alexandra dislikes Calpurnia. Scout s aunt believes
the don t need her even though she has been a member of the family and serves as
a mother figure to the kids. This also falls under racial injustice as Alexandra only
dislikes Calpurnia because she is black. Throughout the duration of Harper Lee s To
Kill a Mockingbird we see the effects of both racial and social injustice in the town
of Maycomb. Through both the perspective of Scout or first hand experiences

McMaster will provide the most thorough analysis of the outcomes from this
simulation to provide the best suggestions for the United States involvement in the
Israeli Palestinian conflict. The opening remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin

conclusion of deliberations all ministers must agree or resign. (February 27 Minutes)

Section Two: Key Dynamics and Players Involved
Upon arrival on February 27th, Yoav Galant, Minister of Construction, stressed the
utmost importance of eliminating the housing crisis in Israel. Galant offered the
proposal of Mordot Arnona where there would be 2000 new housing units that will
aid growing populations inside the new territory added to Jerusalem. (Powerpoint for
Ministry of Construction, February 27 Minutes) This suggestion worried the
Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, because of its capability to threaten the
security of Israel. Galant s reasoning behind this proposal is the expansion of
housing in Jerusalem. The neighborhood will allow for the continuation of growth
and development, providing for the housing demand. With this implemented, it will
strengthen Jerusalem as the capital. The lack of housing is one of the highest
concerns for Galant. On the basis of needing 250,000 houses due to a shortage of
housing, there was a 75% increase in housing costs from 2008 2015. Galant
proposed the annexation of areas E1 and Ma ale Adumim located East of Jerusalem
in order to create more space to distribute housing. Over
18. From Production Line to Segmentation of Production Essay
From Production Line to Segmentation of Production
1. Introduction
Competition has changed: Technical Innovations, globalisation of markets, cultural
shifts within societies and new and efficient competitors put strain on the
organisation of production within a firm. Many markets display a state of saturation
that leads to a change in growth: Not quantitative growth is what firms are aiming at,
but qualitative growth (Wildemann 1998:1).
The improvement of the production is one way to establish qualitative growth its
means are twofold (at least): First, it is possible to change the production in order to
produce a better output with less cost. Second, it is possible to synchronise
production and market as to enable the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter 4 is devoted to the change management: How should the new organisation of
production be implemented? What problems may occur?
What solutions to the problems can be provided? These and more questions will be
put and answered in chapter 4. In chapter 3 a brief overview of change management
within the (alleged) broader framework of project management will be given. Chapter
5 sums the results obtained in the previous chapters and evaluates the value of change
management. 2. Efficient production with segmented production units
Segmentation of production is according to Wildemann a holistic approach, aiming at
a better market and product orientation of the firm (Wildemann 1998: 31). Therefore,
it is necessary to link production units to a specific product. By that, the relation to
Skinner is establish, who discovered the focussed factory for the
Western Economies: a company s competitive strategy at a given time places
particular demands on its manufacturing function, and, conversely (...) the company s
manufacturing posture and operations should be specifically designed to fulfil the
task demanded by strategic plans (Skinner 1969: 138 139). A focussed factory means
accordingly flexible reactions to market changes and the cost efficient realisation
19. Iron Giant Analysis
The Iron Giant (1999), released less than a year after I was born, evokes primarily
feelings of nostalgia. The root of the nostalgia I feel when thinking about this movie
comes from having watched it many times since its release. Over these many
instances of seeing the film, I ve come away from it greatly enjoying the experience
because of the connections it has to earlier in my life, and from the quality of the film
that is hard to surpass with any other animated film produced for children. In my
past viewings of the film, I ve identified with both the main character, Hogarth, and
with Dean earlier on in the film. Early on, I identified more with Hogarth because
of his age, curiosity, and overall demeanor. Most times when I ve seen the movie, I
was relatively close to Hogarth s age, which I assumed to be a couple years from
my age at any given viewing. His curiosity in trying to understand the Giant
mirrored some of my own curiosity in the world and in what was happening in the
movie. I ve slowly transitioned over time to relating more with Dean towards the
beginning of the film. For most of his introduction, Dean helps Hogarth but is wary
and mistrustful of the Giant. Dean is willing to help when it comes to a kid he
recognizes and is acquainted with on some level, but he freaks out and changes his
tune after finding out about the threatening giant in his scrap yard. I follow some of
his logic at this point in the movie, if someone I m acquainted with needs help, I ll
most likely help with some explanation, but things that are extremely unfamiliar,
especially of the magnitude experienced in the movie, I can t help but feel somewhat
threatened and unable to relate to something so different. The lessons I learned from
watching this movie cover topics from dealing with what is unfamiliar to working
around seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The main message of the film seems to
be to embrace that which is different in an effort to understand it and empathize with
it. It gets this message across by using different characters and their points of view in
relation to the Giant and how they react given their circumstances, from the young
boy to the junk yard owner and government agent. The movie firmly plants its

Football, futbol, soccer, the beautiful game as Pele calls it, or whatever you call it,
is the most popular sport in the world. Though it is ultra popular, that doesn t mean
that you know the rules, history, or popularity of the sport, and that is when this
paper proves useful. I am going to inform you about soccer s history, popularity
around the world, necessary equipment, and rules. Firstly, let s explore the history
and popularity of the sport. The earliest form of soccer that is known was played by
soldiers keeping in shape in China around 5000 B.C. The game consisted of a fur
stuffed leather ball being kicked into a small hole. The FA was formed in 1863, and
FIFAwas formed in Paris, France in 1904. Now, as for popularity, as mentioned
before, soccer is the most popular sport worldwide. Also, there are approximately 250
million soccer players worldwide. (FootballBritannica Online Encyclopedia) Next up,

The pitch is a rectangle with two short goal lines and a halfway line dividing the
pitch into two halves. As for the ball, it has to have a circumference of 27 to 28
inches. In professional soccer, the ball used is a size 5. If the ball is kicked out of
bounds on the sides, it gets thrown in by a player from the other team. If the ball gets
kicked out on the line extending from the goal posts, it is either kicked in by the
goalie or a player from the corner. If a player tackles another player too dangerously
or an array of other fouls, a yellow card or a red card are given depending on the
severity of the foul. Two yellow cards equal a red card, and if a player gets a red card,
they are removed from the game and their team plays shorthanded. Of course no
hands are allowed except for the goalkeeper. A game consists of two 45 minute
halves, but the clock doesn t stop so the referee usually adds a short few minutes
after each halve called stoppage time. That is about all you need to know as far as

Coming to terms with modern architecture, we must read through such seminal
statements through their sensibilities and societal myths which they exemplify. Now,
we shall explore parallel themes to do with new myths of modernity, poetic
expressions of technology, the reemergence of abstraction, and analogies between
architecture and other realms such as minimalist sculpture, landscape art and nature.
Architecture oscillates between the unique and the typical where the old and new
may reunite in unexpected ways. Example, the Navarro Baldeweg s Congress Hall in
Salamanca which underlines the complexity of ideas, fantasies, memories and
aspirations that may operate in a single function. If this interconnections work on the

Part from his exchange with painters, sculptors and conceptual artists, part from his
direct engagement with ordinary techniques of construction in which he found
extraordinary possibilities of expression. Spiller House in Vernice, California (1979)
in which angled planes and tilting volumes introduced visual tension and ambiguities
while materials, as found, were handled in a deliberately casual way which exposed
the process of assembly. Another route towards fragmentation and abstraction lay
through the works of neo modernist such as Richard Meier and Bernard Tschumi.
Richard Meier established a signature style that was characterized by layers of wall
planes and transparencies, fractured structural grids, interpenetrating ramps and space
of vying luminosity. All these devices were all on display in the Museum fГјr
Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt (1981 5). The Parc de La Villete (1984 9) by
Bernard Tschumi revealed another aspect of the neo modernist stance. His basic
strategy of co ordinates, sinuous lines and boundaries suggested a latter day
version of Kadinsky s elements of abstract painting or perhaps the score for an
avant garde film in which the same shot pieces were repeated in different montages.

22. Character Of Queen Esther
Queen Esther: A Heroic Analysis of the Biblical Figure Out of all the female
characters in the Bible, Esther stands out as one of the most heroic and complex
figures. As a comparison, she could easily be equated to the heroic Joseph from the
book of Genesis as they both have similar experiences in the royal court. But unlike
Joseph, Esthers most heroic trait is not that she can analyze dreams. Rather, her most
important feature is that she is a wise strategist, which allows her to save the Jews
and her cousin, Mordecai. Yet, Esther does not begin her journey as a cunning
tactician. She is molded and shaped by her surroundings and other heroic features. In
fact, it is these additional qualities that accumulate and extend to her becoming a...

Another criticism against Esther is that she is too obedient towards the men in the
story, and thus too stupid to think for herself. However, obedience is a virtue
observed in heroes and should be valued in Esther. Song offers the example of
when Esther [does] not reveal her people or kindred, for Mordecai had charged her
not to tell, (Est. 2.10). In Old Testament tradition, a wise person is someone who
listens to and obeys their elders. Additionally, by obeying the king s eunuch,
Hegai, and [asking] for nothing except what [he advised] she displays prudence
(Est. 2.15). Song points out how Esther realizes that Hegai has made an important
ally in him as he knows what King Ahasuerus likes or does not like (Song 59).
When Mordecai discovers an assassination plot against the king, he tells Esther
about it. She approaches the king and tells him about the conspiracy in the name
of Mordecai (Est. 2.22). This small detail is significant because she gives credit to
her cousin, showing her loyalty, humility, and honesty. This action in turn leads to
a positive result as the king views Esther even more favorably. As Song writes,
Esther is becoming perceptive of the inner workings of politics and a court insider
(Song 60). Esther s reluctance to agree to Mordecai s request about asking the king
to save her people is seen as cowardly by critics. What these critics fail to realize is
that Esther has a lot at stake during this time, such as her identity

Fifty five years ago they told us that in order to have healthy teeth, we needed to
have one part fluoride in each million parts of water. That s the same as one
milligram of fluoride per liter about one quarter milligram per 8 ounce cup.
There is ample evidence that fluoride is harmful to health: that is why it has been
banned or discontinued in 21 European countries, Japan and Hawaii. A major
report ordered by Congress in January 1990 from the U.S. government s National
Toxicological Program links fluoride with bone and mouth cancer, a rare form of

harmful health effects, including: bone and tooth decay (including dental and skeletal
fluorosis, bone pathology, arthritis, and osteoporosis) Alzheimer s, memory loss and
other neurological impairment, kidney damage, cancer, genetic damage, and
gastrointestinal problems. In addition, fluoride has been found to leach lead from

Melba Pattillo and eight other African American students became soldiers on the
battlefield of equality at a young age. When entering Central High School, Melba
had to become a warrior in order to survive the school year. She had to be a warrior
to fight for what she believed in and not give up. Melba created a warrior inside
herself to rise above the pressure and scrutiny from her peers, community, and
nation. She was a warrior of civil justice and equality for the future generations of
kids who only wanted a fair chance. Melba s mother told her, there s a price to be
paid for freedom; we pay it now or we re in ball and chain forever. (Pattillo. 104) To
survive the school year, Melba had to acquire various weapons to fight against the
segregationists who surrounded her. Those weapons included her words, her
diary, her presence and her faith. After Minnijean was expelled Melba s fellow
students became more vicious trying to get the others expelled also. One day
Melba got eggs dumped on her head. Later when her grandmother helped her get

large issues facing the public in the time period. Rachel Carson faces the issue of pest

permeate the environment, and it is commonly accepted that they have no ill
consequences. Carson compiled the research of many scientists and showed, despite
fierce opposition, that insecticides pose a high risk of destroying the environment and
are harmful to humans. Carl Saganwrites about his concerns about the path society is

Carl Sagan s book The Demon Haunted World covers why people think the way they
do about paranormal claims, UFO s, and pseudoscience. Sagan demonstrates that the
pattern of thinking uncritically is not limited to fringe claims, but is practiced
throughout society to its detriment. Carl Sagan argues that it is critical that people
change their habits But if we don t practice these tough habits of thought, we cannot
hope to solve the truly serious problems that face us and we risk becoming a nation
of suckers, up for grabs by the next charlatan who comes along (Sagan 38). Peter
Barton Hutt and Gregory Frantz argue that corporations have abused the critical
faculties of Americans to promote a lifestyle of consumption and conformity to social
spending: In other words, the same human propensity for uncritical thought and
conformity that has historically been exploited by religions and governments is today
being capitalized upon by corporations to promote consumerism (Hutt 83). Their
position is reinforced by Sagan writing, throughout the book, that it is often profitable
to those who provide the beliefs for others and it is in their best interests to
discourage individual thoughts. Silent Spring is a detailed analysis of the damages
caused by pesticides to the environment. Rachel Carson explains that through the

By looking at the statistics it is quite prominent that the Australian populations must

one of the healthiest countries. Furthermore, it would see a decline in the number of
people suffering chronic diseases revolving from obesity.

29. How Does Norman Bates Relate To Psychology
Alfred Hitchcock s original contemporary film Psycho shocks the conservative
audiences of the 1960s era by delving into the demented intricacies of Norman Bates
mind, and questioning the façade of normality that society expects of us. Sigmund
Freud s Psychoanalytical lens allows the audience to expound Bate s unhinged
character and to bring some meaning to the pure psychoticism of his actions.
Hitchcock s manic antagonist Norman Bates disturbing behaviour can be scrutinised
using Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytical perspective; thus perusing the motives
behind his horrifying matricide and subsequential murders. Bates childlike
disposition throughout the film, seen through his poor social skills, stutter and
obsessive candy chewing could be
30. The Synoptic Gospels In The Gospel Of Mark
Throughout the centuries, from the time of the Augustine, it has not been
uncommon for the Gospel of Mark to be viewed in a negative light when compared
to the other Synoptic Gospels. It has been said that Luke and Matthew were written
in an attempt to cover Mark s deficiencies. At first glance, this is an understandable
viewpoint. To the modern layreader, Mark does seem to flow less evenly and convey
less information than its contemporaries. Therefore, among many, Mark was
respected for being the first Gospelwritten and for the precious information it
conveyed, but certainly not for its literary elements. This changed in 1982 when
Rhoads and Michie released the first edition Mark as Story, which is an analysis of
Mark as a work of literature. This, as Mark Allan Powell stated in the afterward,
was a new and unexpected way of looking at the Gospels that pioneered a wave of
literary analysis in relation to Scripture. Mark as Story is an interdisciplinary
approach that views the work through the lens of a story told using ancient oral
tradition and analyzes its characters, plot, setting, narrator and original audience.
When these aspects are viewed in this manner, it reveals that the Gospel of Markis, in
fact, a literary masterpiece. The authors of the book begin their exploration of Mark
as literature by explaining their reasons for doing so. Mark, the first of the Synoptic
Gospels, made the decision to convey his beliefs to his audience through the medium
of
31. Prayer In Public School Vs. Private Schools And Public...
Prayer in school is a controversial topic of today s time. There are different pros and
cons when it comes to bringing religion into schools. Varying from state to state
the court s perspective has played a major role in the decision of having prayer in
schools, as well as the opinions of society. Understanding that your personal
opinion is not the same as everyone else s is important and others may have
different point of views. The controversial topics that give examples for each
position allows you to realize whether you agree or disagree. You could start out
with a set opinion about it, but after reading the different sides and stories it may
change your mind. There is a difference in public schools and private schools that
practice prayerin school. If you sign your child up for a private schooland the
handbook states that they allow prayer in school, then you cannot later go against it.
Public schools, on the other hand work for the government so anything they say
goes. Private schools are allowed more freedom and less restriction on prayer in
school. The students in a private school pay tuition, which funds the school. Private
schools are known as independent schools, which means they are non governmental
and not administered by local, state or national government. Students are allowed
more freedom of religionand allowed to express their religious beliefs more
openly(Prayer in School Pros and Cons List, NYLN).
Public schools are ran and funded by the

A U.S. TRANSPORT plane touched down at Guantanamo Bay at about 2:15 p.m.
ET. Speaking on condition of anonymity, military officials told NBC that about 15
detainees were aboard the flight, including some who were unable to walk because of
their wounds.
White military trucks drove onto the runway, apparently to help bring the disabled
prisoners on stretchers to secure facilities at the U.S. base, NBC News Mary Murray
reported from an observation point near Guantanamo. The wounded will be evaluated
for medical treatment at the base s hospital, officials said. They said future flights
would bring in additional wounded, and an air conditioned, tented field hospital was
being built exclusively for detainees.

Red Cross spokesman Darcy Christen said that the Third Geneva Convention on
prisoners of war forbade the exposing of captives to public curiosity.
I would consider this (the publication) incompatible with the Geneva Convention, he
said.
But the Swiss based humanitarian group declined to comment on what the
photographs said about the conditions under which the prisoners were being held.
The Red Cross team had initially intended to spend a week in Guantanamo but the
arrival of more prisoners meant that it was difficult to put any limit on the visit,
Christen said.
They are going to be open ended because there are more prisoners being flown in,
and in any case there have to be follow up sessions, he said.
BRITISH ARE ASSUAGED
On Monday, the office of Prime Minister Tony Blair released a statement that the
British prisoners being held by the U.S. military in Cuba have no complaints.
There are three Britons among the suspected Taliban and al Qaida prisoners, and
British lawmakers have voiced outrage over what they ve seen of the conditions. But
a British team who visited the camp over the weekend told Blair s office that the
British prisoners are in good physical health, and that there is no sign of any
mistreatment.
The team said there were no gags, goggles or shackles while the prisoners were in
their cells. U.S. military officials say detainees would have worn such items only as

33. The Importance Of Residential Schools
The main aim of all the was somehow same as to spread their tradition. The
missionary aim of the Christian tradition was to circulate their tradition all over the
world. They took many steps to spread their tradition. Residential schools is one of
the main example of their mission. Aboriginal people always tried to educate their
children about their tradition and culture. They used to play small dramas in front of
their children so that they gain the knowledge from those dramas. Moreover elder
people of their community taught them about the culture every day.
Christian just want to spread their own culture. They established the residential
schools and told the aboriginal people that these schools are opened to educate their
children and to civilize them and their whole community as well. But this was not the
main motive behind the establishment of this school. They separated the aboriginal
people from their parents and from the culture and community so that they were
totally separated from their culture. It becomes easy for them to educate the
aboriginal people about their culture, tradition, language etc. aboriginal children were
told to replace their traditional clothes with the Christian clothes. They were also told
to use Christian language instead of their own
34. The Power Of Love In Romeo And Juliet
The power of love can help people get through obstacles that stand in their way and
can help one become his or her own individual. In the famous play Romeo and
Juliet , by William Shakespeare, Romeo is willing to do whatever it takes to be
with Juliet without even looking back or thinking of the consequences while Juliet
struggles with becoming an individual going from someone who shares a mind with
her mother to an independent individual choosing to be with Romeo. Shakespeare
develops Romeo by his overdramatic choice of words and Juliet by her change in
behavior going from obedient and letting others speak for her to rebellious in trying
to be independent, which refines the central idea: the power of loveagainst obstacles.
Romeo s overdramatic word choice helps give the reader a deeper meaning into
the power of love against obstacles. Romeo constantly exaggerates his thoughts
through the choice of words he uses in his daily language. When Benvolio
questions Romeo, wondering why he is upset, Romeo explains how love is a
smoke made up with a fume of sighs, (Act one, scene one) and goes on about his
love for Rosaline. In saying so, Romeo conveys his thoughts about how love can be
bittersweet. Love can consume one like a strong fume, but that fume can also be
dangerous and engulf you in sadness. Romeo is portrayed as a romantic, showing
the reader his deep love for Rosaline. However, Romeo then falls in love with Juliet.
His love for Juliet is enough for him to not be
35. Negative Effects Of Body Image
With today s social media, the young generation sees an array of images that
portray the ideal body. Most of the pictures seen belong to young female models
advertising beauty products. They are presumed to have perfect and idyllic
appearances (Cash, 2004). Young girls often feel the pressure to attain this illusion
which is mostly unachievable. Failure to achieve this height of beauty leads to low
self esteem and low self evaluation issues. The subject of bodyimage among
adolescents has become a problem as they are always in pursuit of the high social
standards of attractiveness that are practically impossible. The teenagers in high
schools are the ones who face this problem a lot. (Pope, Corona Belgrave, 2014).
Body Image
As a young female I high school, I felt that some of my body parts were not doing
me justice. Don t get me wrong; Personally, I loved how my blonde hair fell
entirely on my shoulders and how my green eyes brought out a playful side to my
person. My height and weight felt agreeable, and I did not struggle with them as
much. However most my days in school I yearned for my skin to be more tan and my
breasts a little bit perky (Cash, 2004).
On my low days, I felt as though my ears and face were not the right shapes needed
altering. On such a day, I felt that as though my nose was sticking out and often
wished to be invisible. I struggled every morning with shaving my legs and ensuring
they looked
36. Issues In Cinderella Man
In Cinderella Man, Ron Howard illustrates the events that occurred in the life of
James J. Braddock, a boxer in the early 1900s who overcame rigorous challenges
and became the world heavyweight boxing champion. While many people believe
the film was made purely to entertain, it actually displays many prevalent issues in
today s society, with one of these issues being the importance of maintaining a
proper appearance. Although it isn t blatantly displayed throughout the film, Ron
Howard demonstrates the importance of appearances in today s society through
the subtle interactions between the on screen characters. The issue traces back to
even the most well known Cinderella story, as is shown in Walt Disney s
Cinderella, adapted by Campbell Grant. The story places emphasis on how
Cinderella refuses to go to the ball when her evil stepsisters remark on how she can
not go to the ball because she is not dressed for it. Cinderella meekly... Show more

Cinderella wins the battle because her mother is able, through magic, to provide
raiment so stunning that no ordinary dress can compete (Panttaja 288). A few lines
later, the author supports this by stating that The prince marries Cinderella
because he is enchanted (literally) by the sight of her in the magical clothes (288).
What this implies is that the prince would not have had the slightest of interest in
Cinderella if it wasn t for her magical garbs, provided by her fairy godmother of
course. In fact, the author mentions that in the Grimms version, Cinderella is
described as deformed, while the sisters are described as fair ; what can be
inferenced from this is that Cinderella s dress is in fact, miraculous by turning a
deformed girl into a woman whose beauty surpasses that of the already
37. Karl Popper Science As Falsification Summary
In Karl Popper s paper Science as Falsification , he attempted to explain what
exactly separates hard science from pseudoscience. He came to the conclusion that
all theories which are to be deemed scientific must be falsifiable. In other words, the
theory must have the ability to be tested and proven to be true, and not just deemed
to be true because it happens to be true in some instances. Popper s logic was that the
only reason to test a theorywas to find a way to deem it untrue, and so theories which
are unable to be tested cannot be considered as science. I believe that this was a great
turning point in the history of science because there were many theories which were
considered as scientific because there was no basis of proving them otherwise. Many
people who were studying in certain unfalsifiable... Show more content on

Astronomy is concerned with the study of celestial bodies like planets, stars, comets,
asteroids, moons, etc., the physics of these objects, and their relation to each other.
Almost all information obtained in astronomy is through direct observation and
mathematical calculations. Any astronomical theory can be tested by just looking up
in the sky with a telescope. Further knowledge can be obtained by observing the
relationships between these bodies and using theories from other branches of science
such as physics and chemistry. Astrology, on the other hand, attempts to use the
information observed from celestial bodies, such as the location of the sun, the
moon, stars, and constellations in space, and their alignment relative to each other, to
try to predict and explain things which are happening here on Earth. Astrologers use
things such as the time of one s birth in relation to the position of these objects as a
basis for making predictions about a person s personality traits, things which they
may or may not do, or things which they may

Essay
A Thousand Acres as Movie is Melodramatic and Bogus
Perhaps Jane Smiley s Pulitzer Prize winning novel A Thousand Acres was a bit
over rated. For one thing, the book s dark secret seemed utterly implausible. I just
didn t believe that the book s protagonist and narrator, a 37 year old Iowa farm wife
named Ginny, could have completely repressed the fact that her father had sex with
her when she was 15 years old, night after night, for a year. For True Believers in
Repressed Memory Syndrome, this might sound like gospel: I found it melodramatic
and bogus. Furthermore, the sensitive unto death narrative voice was dissonant and
grating: Ginny came across as too intelligent and self aware to be as clueless and
numb as she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Above all, they play it too safe. Perhaps if they had added new material, approached
Smiley s story from different directions, they could have made a film that would have
been truer to the spirit, if not the letter, of her book. Ploddingly literal, A Thousand
Acres is basically a star vehicle that relies on superior acting to redeem it. It does
have superior acting, but that s not nearly enough.
The story involves a tyrannical old patriarch, Larry Cook (Jason Robards, whose
skills are not really utilized), who, apparently forgetting the unpleasant fate that
befell Lear, decides to give his farm away to his three daughters Ginny (Jessica
Lange), Rose (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Caroline (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Larry Lear;
Ginny Goneril; Rose Regan; Caroline Cordelia. Get it? But Smiley turns that
phallocentric old fable on its politically incorrect head: Instead of being hounded to
madness and despair by evil children, this patriarch is the evil one, a rigid,
remorseless old man who, we learn, seduced not just Ginny but Rose, too. And he
doesn t need to be driven to madness: He goes pretty much off the deep end, for
reasons that are never explained, right after he gives away his property.
Ginny and Rose, like their horrific Shakespearean namesakes,
39. School To Prison Pipeline Essay
The School to Prison Pipeline is a national trend wherein children are funneled out
of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems ( School to
Prison Pipeline ). This phenomenon brings children into the juvenile justice
system at a very young age. An article published in the journal Urban Education
explains that, The school to prison pipeline contributes to the atmosphere of
increased surveillance of schools including police presence in schools, zero
tolerance policies, physical restraint tactics, and automatic consequence policies,
resulting in suspensions from school (Martin, Beese 2015). By increasing police
presence in schools, children are more likely to be searched, questioned, or
targeted by police than they would be without police present. And as a result,
children are far more likely to be subject to school based arrests the majority of
which are for nonviolent offenses, such as disruptive behavior than they were a
generation ago ( School to Prison Pipeline ). For example, if a child was
misbehaving in class in a school that had a police presence, they could possibly get
arrested and sent to prison. But if a child was acting the same way in a school that
did not have any police presence, they would not be arrested. Police would most
likely be present in a school in an urban environment or poor neighborhood because
more crimeoccurs in urban and poor places, so in theory, by placing police in
schools, they would be preventing any crimes
40. The Extraordinary Jimi Hendrix Essay
The extraordinary performances, recording, and lyrics of James Marshall Hendrix
have made him impossible to forget. This American rock music guitarist made a
legendary mark not only in the history of rock n roll but also on the pop culture as a
whole (Ross 32). With unique techniques never seen before and blatant sex related

Hendrix was not born into stardom nor was it given to him by any means. He

Unfortunately, he never was able to get Richard to realize his talents, so he
abandoned Richard s tour in St. Louis (Wolters, Pre Experience ).
After aimlessly wandering for awhile, Hendrix found himself in Atlanta and once
again teamed up with Little Richard. The tour brought them to Los Angeles where
he then went in his own direction. He hooked up with Richard for a third time
during the summer of 1964 to record an album in which he again felt confined as
being only a backup to Little Richard (Wolters, Pre Experience ).
Hendrix later joined the budding musician Arthur Lee, but the partnership did not
last long as he once again set out in search of his own identity (Wolters, Pre
Experience ). He embarked as a traveling musician for various tours backing such
artists as Ike and Tina Turner, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, B.B. King, Chuck
Berry, King Curtis, Solomon Burke, Chuck Jackson, Jackie Wilson, and several
others (Wolters, Hendrix ).
On his next endeavor, he teamed up with saxophonist Lonnie Youngblood. The pair
was short lived as Hendrix soon split, and his adventurous spirit ended him up in
New York where he rented a small, cheap apartment and drifted from job to dead end
job (Wolters, Pre Experience ).
The spring of 1964 brought better luck to Hendrix. Ronnie Isley of the Isley
