Domestic Violence As A Personal Choice
Domestic Violence As A Personal Choice
Sociology 102

Amber Damiano
People are exposed to violence on a daily basis, whether it is through media, personal relationships, or
simply observed during daily activities. The few types of violence that are most prominent in today s
society are physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and domestic violence. Domestic violence is
one of the most problematic and dangerous forms of violence that exist due to the detrimental effects
it has on the individuals directly involved, children who witness these acts of violence, and society as
a whole. Both men and women can be victims of domestic abuse, however, Safe Horizon states that, 1
in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime (Safe Horizon). Everyone who
experiences or witnesses domestic abuse are affected in detrimental ways. The abusers often have
anger problems or lack of impulse control which only progresses. The victims become physically and
emotionally scarred and the children who fall witness to parental domestic violence develop issues
with emotional and behavioral functioning as well as social competence. More often than not,
domestic violence is a learned behavior by children in abusive homes. Research conducted by The
American Medical Association estimates that over 3.3 million children observe spousal abuse every
year (Bennett, 1995). Because of this, children will believe this behavior is okay and may even

Closed Reading Reflection
Before I reading the assigned chapter one I first wanted to brainstorm what the title of the chapter
could have instore for the read, you know me. The title says The core purposes of reading I would like
to think I know what the main purpose of reading it s to comprehend, interpret data and ideals. On the
first page of this chapter I notice there are kids reading a newspaper, the level of interested and overall
engagement is quite appealing and gives me, the reader something forward to. Often when I assign
reading I make it a practice to have the students do closed reading where there is constant dialogue
and discussion going over topics that play an important role on how my students are perceiving the
information or how they are integrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kids was very invested in the reading he had in in class, where he learned and read about a
slaughter house. This is not how I would like to be interrupt while eating my lunch but it defiantly
goes down as a memorable occurrence in that woman s life as she encountered with the young man.
To think it all started with a class reading assignment, Michael and Antonio were students at Best
Practice High School (BPHS), these students were very engaged through their process of learning
about nutrition and how the body takes, uses and said food in general. The kids seem to really be taken
with the fast food article and called for its immediate attention to anyone who would listen, this is the
difference in where the students took their comprehension of what they were reading. This kids acted
in the chapter, they made flyers to handout, caused a commotion in a local fast food restaurant and
even wrote their representative. Per the text the school specialized in making sure all the kids knew to
visualize ideas and situations in the text, make connection with their own knowledge, notice and ask
questions, draw inferences, evaluate, summarize and synthesize information. Was all those thinking
strategies the foundation for the student s effort to rise and act. I believe that this was the case for

An Analysis Of Alexandre Dumas Davy De La Pailleterie
Alexandre Dumas Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, the author of The Three Musketeers, was
born in Villers Cotterets, France on July 24, 1802. His father, also named Alexandre Dumas, was a
general in Napoleon s army. When the author was only four years old, his father died, and he and his
two siblings were raised in poverty by his mother, Marie Louise Elizabeth Davy de la Pailleterie. He
went a private school for a short period of time before he started teaching himself and becoming
homeschooled. In 1823, he moved to Paris, where he was able to obtain a comfortable job as a clerk
for the Duke of Orleans. By this time, he had developed passions for the ladies and for the theater
(Alexandre Dumas). After being inspired by watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost all of his renowned books were collaborations with other writers, primarily Auguste Maquet.
Their works included The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. These novels were
initially broken down into serials in magazines instead of complete books. Because of all his successes
with his novels, the 1840s were the apex of his finances, and he was able to build a luxurious estate.
Although Dumas created some of the best known plays and novels in the world, he suffered from
many setbacks which ultimately led to his death. He created a controversial, yet popular play in 1832
called The Tower of Nesle. The play depicted many of the vices of the preceding king and was
disliked by the new king, Louis Philippe. As a result, the author was exiled from France for a short
period of time. He suffered from bankruptcy from wasting too much money on his estate and giving
lavish gifts to women. He escaped his creditors by fleeing to Brussels. After he returned to Paris, he
worked tirelessly to pay his debts. He created two newspaper companies, which survived about three
years each. Then, he had to retreat to first son s home in 1870 because of the Prussian occupation of
Paris in the Franco Prussian War. He died two years later in poverty and declining spirits on December
fifth at seventy years old (DISCovering Authors).

Alternating Current Research Paper
Atoms consist of three main components: neutrons (no charge), electrons (negative charge) and
protons (positive charge). The change on an electron is 1.6 x 10 19Coulombs. Coulombs (C) are the
unit of charge used which is defined as the electric charge carried by 1 ampere of current in 1 second.9
All objects are comprised of atoms creating an overall charge which in most cases is neutral, although
objects that have excess electrons create an overall negative charge whereas an object with fewer
electrons has an overall positive charge. According to the law of electrostatics, atoms with unlike
charges attract, while like charges cause the particles to repel. As electricity is a flow of negatively
charged particles, when placed in a circuit, the particles will flow from the negative terminal to the
positive terminal due to being repelled from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than flowing in one direction, they transfer from one atom to another changing direction, back
and forth, constantly creating a sine function. Due to the change in direction of the electrons, the
direction of current and the voltage of the circuit reverse itself.1 Alternating current is currently
generated at power stations by rotating a coil wire inside a large magnet (figure 1). As one pole of the
magnet nears the coil, a current is produced within the coil.10 This current will grow to a maximum
before decreasing as the magnetic pole moves further away producing a sine function. When the
opposite end of the pole approaches the coil, the current produced inside the coil is reversed.10
Generally the frequency of the AC sine wave is either 50 or 60 hertz while the period is always 360°
when expressed as a measurement.12 Located in the appendix is a diagram of AC sine wave in
relation to the coil angle (figure

Brownsville Small Business Failure
What explains the high failure rate of small business startup in the City of Brownsville? There are
several influences that contribute to the failure of small business. According to (SBA, 2015) small
business provides approximately half or 4.3 million of Texas s private workforces. In 2010 there was
38,760 small business established in Texas only 68.3 percent of those business remained open two
years later. This would indicate that approximately 31.7 percent of those businesses failed and the City
of Brownsville is no exception. One major issue is that the City of Brownsville is a disadvantaged
economically distressed region. The City sets on the Mexico boarder along the Rio Grande Valley,
with a population of 183,887 within their community,

How Did Eudora Welty Influence Society
Eudora Welty
Southern writers are some of the most prominent authors in America. One of those authors is Eudora
Alice Welty. Eudora Welty s life and career had influence on writers and society even after death.
Welty was born on April 13th, 1909 in Jackson Mississippi to Christian and Chestina Welty. She grew
up with two brothers and parents who strongly encouraged reading and writing. At the age of seven,
Welty was diagnosed with a heart condition. During that time she was bedridden and spent a lot of
time reading her favorite authors, such as The Brothers Grimm, Mark Twain, and many others. She
described her childhood and family to be happy, bookish, and close knit. Her earliest memories were
of her parents reading to her. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1937, Welty wrote The Petrified Man and submitted it to a new magazine called Southern Review.
The editors Cleanth Brooks and Robert Penn Warren denied the story. Due to this denial, a
discouraged Welty destroyed the only copy. Shortly after rejecting the story, Warren had second
thoughts, and she rewrote it from memory.
Five years after her first story was published, Welty published her first book called A Curtain of
Green, which appeared in the Southern Review and was chosen for The Best Short Stories 1939. How
well A Curtain of Green succeeded impressed critics.
During 1955 1970, she was primarily occupied with lecturing and taking care of her family, but she
wrote Losing Battles in the meantime. In 1966, her mother and brother unexpectedly died just days
apart from each other.
The majority of her stories included characters that were murderers, psychotics, the senile, and the
mentally retarded. Welty never married and lived alone in the house her father built. She received four
O. Henry Memorial Prizes, the M. Thomas Award, and many more awards. The Robber Bridegroom
and The Ponder Heart have even been adapted and produced on

Information Technology Healthcare System Applications
The World has spontaneously reduced into a tiny global village where advancement in technology has
taken the order of the day across many faculties and departments at the present. Healthcare is one of
the sections that have struggled to adapt to the new technologies in order to survive in the current
markets, which are full of competition as the major threat. In fact, the necessity for the use of
advanced technology in the health sector emanates from the demand of the clients and the
environmental constraints at hand. This paper intends to define the four major areas of Information
Technology Healthcare System Applications, provide a summary of the medical technology in various
areas, describe the various types of private insurance, and highlight the types of reimbursement
methods under healthcare practice. Healthcare System Applications Clinical Information Systems This
is a system that has been put to good use by many healthcare institutions. It is a PC based system that
provides room for keeping clinical records for the patients, storing data and maintenance of schedules
for the healthcare technicians. It has elements: clinical patient support and electronic media records,
which are vital in making sound clinical decision in the shortest time period. In addition, the system
forms a hub for training and research since the information regarding the patients may be availed to
the physicians for the purpose of establishing new medical phenomena. This system has merits in as

Milk Sparknotes
Milk The movie Milk takes place in 1970 s in San Francisco, in the United States of America. The
main character is Harvey Milk, stared by Sean Penn, who is a gay activist. He moved from New York
City to San Francisco in 1972, where he stayed there till his assassination in 1978. Upon moving to
San Francisco, Harvey opened a camera shop, which later became a popular place for gay community
in San Francisco. While in charge of the shop he organizes gays purchasing powers to gain political
alliances, their first test was Coors Beer boycotting, due to the fact that the leaders of the union did not
meet the union demands. Harvey and his organization convinced the gay community to drop Coors
Beer from #1 in sales in San Francisco, in which they succeeded. Tension had started between the gay
community and the police; the police would go on random raids on gay bars with their badges covered
and beat them. Once the harassed guys are on the streets the police would arrest them for blocking
traffic . So gay people started wearing and having whistles handy so when they hear the whistle they
would come running to help whoever is in trouble. Harvey claims that if the gay community had a
representative in the government like the black community did, that the harm will stop and they would
live peacefully. He first ran for city supervisor in 1975 but he lost, he kept running for other major
offices till he won City Supervisor in 1978. Harvey was assassinated1978, few months after winning

Navajo Code Talkers Case Study
What battles did the code talkers help in? How did the talkers understand each other among all the
confusion? What made the code so unbreakable no one could figure out what the code meant? The
Navajo Code Talkers were an elite group of Navajos who had to create a code that was unbreakable.
The Code Talkers had to understand each other perfectly. The talkers did this by meeting in a room for
a really long time to make the code. When the Navajos made the code the coders named certain
vehicles after animals. For example the Navajos named submarines iron fish . Everyone was trained
and quizzed so hard so that the coders could send and receive messages perfectly. Once there was a 6
hour period where the Navajos sent and received more than 800 messages perfectly. ... Show more

One of those major battles was Okinawa. The code Talkers also led in Iwo Jima as they had to relay
enemy positions to the ships so they could focus their fire. At one point in the war, the Allies were
leading an island hopping campaign in the Pacific. When the Allies had to go from island to island, the
Navajos had to transmit codes perfectly to each other to make the campaign successful. Captain
Howard Connor even said, Were it not for the Navajo Code Talkers, the Marines would have never
taken Iwo Jima. The Navajo Code was very complicated making it hard to understand for the
Japanese. The Code Talkers had 2 3 different words for each letter. When the Navajos named a vehicle
that vehicle was named with an animal with a certain characteristic. For instance they called dive
bombers Gini , which means Chicken Hawk, because Chicken Hawks dive. The Japanese had already
studied Native American languages such as Cherokee, Creek, and Choctaw, as well as many others. In
World War I we used those languages but after the war the Japs learned about them so that s why the

The Protestant Reformation, Religious Unity, and Calvinism...
Introduction
The Protestant Reformation of the Catholic Church devastated the religious unity of Christian Europe,
resulting in a great deal of antagonism, which in turn led to the persecutions, denial of civil rights,
expulsion, and ultimately the torture and death of many men, women and children. The ongoing
conflict was not consigned to one distinct European nation, but was experienced in every European
nation that the Catholic Church ruled and reigned. There was no worldview in Europe at that time that
allowed for the religious differences of men to coexist peaceably.
As quoted by McGrath in his book, French Protestantism to the Present Day. From Britain in the west
to Hungary and Poland in the east, thousands of towns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In October of 1534, the Affair of the Placard occurred, what made this event of great importance, was
that it was a planned, written Protestant attack on the Catholic doctrine of Mass. These posters, which
condemned the practice of Mass, also appeared just about simultaneously in several major cities of
France overnight to include Paris, where Calvin lived. Francis I, retaliated harshly and swiftly
possibly, because of the recent treaty that he had signed with Spain to end the Thirty Year War.
Francis, possible to ensure his loyalty toward the Pope and the treaty arrested and executed the
Protestants whom were responsible. Calvin like many other fearing for their safety left France, Calvin
choosing to escape to Switzerland.
Reforming Christianity
When Calvin arrived in Geneva, William Farel saw in Calvin the leader that Geneva needed and he
urged the young scholar to go no farther but to stay in the city and help establish the work there
(Shelley, 2008, 256) . Calvin s patronage from Geneva helped with the growth and development of the
French Protestant movement in the 1550s. Calvin trained French Protestant pastors at the Geneva
Academy, and helped to smuggle them back into France to establish and develop local congregations.
It was also during this time he wrote Institutes of the Christian Religion, in 1536, that put into words

Barn Burning Sarty Analysis
Not only is Barn Burning about the in the hereditary sense of blood ties, but it is also about how a
young boy s conscience dictates his actions. It is through Faulkner s use of stream of consciousness
narration that the reader is aware of Sarty s innermost thoughts and feelings. It seems that Sarty is of
good nature: he has a strong sense of morality, loyalty and humility. Throughout the story, Sarty tries
to imagine that Abner might change his behavior. Maybe he [Abner] will feel it too, thought Sarty as
him and his father walked up to Major de Spain s grand farmhouse, feeling safe and confident,
[m]aybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be (pg 518). But, yet

just that: dreams. Once Sarty realized that there was seemingly no hope for his father, it was much

The Outcaste By Akkarmashi
Abstract:
The Outcaste Akkarmashi has a significant and massive influence on the society as it depicts first hand
experiences of author himself. Sharankumar Limbale depicts a true and realistic picture of the darker
side of the Indian society. Here the darker side indicates nothing but the worst culture of our Indian
society in discriminating people by their caste. The novel narrates the dehumanization of Dalits. Their
suffering includes inequality, discrimination and indifference towards them and their culture. They are
ill treated for which they do nothing. The author describes about his pathetic situation of not having an
identity in his own society. The author has put in words the life he lived as an untouchable, as a half
caste, and as an impoverished man. Thus the novel leaves a deep impression on the human mind.
People are respected for their designation and neglected for their caste. Lower caste people suffer a lot
by many means like poverty, education, status etc. only because of their caste. The best way to find
out the sufferings of the Dalits and the other marginalised sections is through the words and emotions
of those who have lived through the experience and who have the education and talent to write about
it. Such is the autobiographical novel The Outcaste .

A Midsummer Nights Dream Essay
In the comedic romantic play, A Midsummer Night s Dream, by William Shakespeare, four plebeians
are fighting for fate and destiny in the city of Athens, Greece. Hermia, a strong willed young lady,
defies her father s orders to marry Demetrius, another Athenian man, and subsequently runs off to the
woods to marry Lysander. However, when the lovers, Hermia and Lysander, run off, their plans are
disrupted when they are told on by Helena, Demetrius s obsessive lover. At this moment, Lysander,
after learning about the others disrupting their plans to elope, says the course of true love never did

Lots of feelings between Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius are not mutual and are only a series
of unconnected lines from one person to another to another. This truly demonstrates the hardships and
complications of true love and how it does not always go as perfect as planned. Many problems arise
because of the mixups between the love juice and the fairies. One such mixup is when Hermia and
Lysander s plans to elope are very suddenly halted when Helena hears of their plans and tells
Demetrius, who decides to see if Helena s rumors are true. Demetrius then goes into the woods,
followed by Helena, to see if it is true, but does not find the lovers, but instead are seen by Oberon.
Oberon, while having love issues of his own with Titania, sees Helena and her obsessive love for
Demetrius, and so makes a plan to help Helena with her love issues. When Oberon, of which is busy
with other tasks, tells Puck to put the supernatural love juice on the eyes of an Athenian man
(Demetrius) so that he will fall in love with Helena, he gladly takes the task. Though since Oberon is
not specific with his directions for the love potion, Puck accidentally puts it on Lysander while he is
sleeping. Consequently, when Lysander awakens he automatically falls in love with Helena. Lysander

With all of the unfairness going on right now with LGBT people, sometimes the people adjudicating
do not know how it is affecting the victims. If they did know they would know that it has an emotional
impact on them in many ways. According to the ACLU they carry out this type of work through five
central priority areas: Basic Rights and Liberties, Parenting, Relationships and Marriages, Youth and
Schools, and Transgender Discrimination. Basic Rights and Liberties, the ACLU works hard to make
LGBT people have equal opportunity to participate fully in civil society. No LGBT person should
experience discrimination in employment, housing, or in business and public places, or the

especially do not agree that LGBT people should be able to have or adopt kids because it will affect
how they grow throughout time and will teach them the wrong things about life. Fighting restrictions
on parenting by LGBT people is critical because this discrimination causes serious, enduring harm to
the lives of LGBT people and their children. (LGBT Rights, 1). Relationships and Marriage, the
ACLU believes that LGBT people, like everyone else, should have the freedom to build the kinds of
personal, intimate relationships most meaningful to them without risking that their families will be

A localized condition of swelling, growth or bump on the bottom of your foot may be cause for
attention. This may be caused by injury, infection or inflammation. These bumps may be small or
large and may have mild or severe pains that are associated with them. This article will explain
possible causes, treatment, and prevention for bumps on the bottom of your feet.
Possible Causes
1. Blisters
When friction causes two layers of your skin to separate, a blister is formed. Blisters may appear in
size ranging from the size of acne to three inches in diameter. The raised portion of the blister is filled
with liquid that your body has heal the injured area and to prevent infection. Broken blisters may

even after treatment. These are normally have the diameter of half of centimeter and are raised about
the same distance, but than can vary in width and depth.
Warts will generally disappear over time, but they can be unsightly or uncomfortable and you may
want to remove them earlier. Liquid nitrogen can be purchased over the counter or administered by a
medical professional. Laser surgery may also remove the wart. Some people have found that covering
the wart for a week with a band aid or duct tape will weaken the wart. Do not attempt to cut off or
cauterize the wart, as there are safer and more efficient means to remove it.
The best way to prevent a wart is to protect your skin from foreign interaction. It is important to
remember that a removed wart does not mean that the virus has left your body. In time, your body
should destroy the virus. The best thing to do is remove the warts as they develop and wait it out.

Translation shift is common occurrence that we can find in translation. This thing happens because

noun to singular noun is wrong in this situation. They have different meaning and sense from St to TT.
The word places means many places meanwhile tempat means just one place. From the analysis the
writer assumes that the translator makes mistake in translation. The translator does the wrong
translation because between plural noun becomes singular noun have different meaning from ST to
TT. The word places in English is translated as tempat can not be accepted by TT.
* Adjective becomes verb
Adjectives are words that modify a noun; they either name an inherent attribute of a thing. (Verspoor,
2000: 92). Adjective in English usually is located before noun to modify it. In translation world,
adjective in ST becomes verb in TT is a normal phenomenon.

Kardashian Informative Speech
A Kardashian (guess who) has recently been reported to separate from a Disick (guess who again)
after spending 9 years and having three children together. The reasons for the break up were the man s
persistent substance abuse problem, and a rumored affair with his ex in Monaco while his baby mama
was celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends in California. These factors combined with
Kardashian s suspicion that he cheated on her with other women was the last straw and her dawning
wake up call. She did it for her kids, and we applaud her for her strength. In light of this woman s
enlightenment, here are a few songs to inspire those who are in a similar shitty situation and to

The Second Set of Doors at the Baptistery
The maintenance and completion of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest and most
significant buildings in Florence, was entrusted to the Arte del Calimala Guild. This wool merchants
guild was the oldest of Florentine guilds and was extremely powerful and wealthy. This wealth and
power was due in large part to the fact that Florence was the fabric capitol of Italy. The Baptistery was
dedicated to Florence s patron saint John the Baptist. Consequently, the first set of doors created by
Andrea Pisano in 1336 depicted scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist and was installed on the
east or main entrance side. Plans for the other two sets of doors were delayed because of the economic
crash, political unrest, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Documents indicate that Ghiberti and his stepfather, Bartolo di Michele, signed the contract together.
The contract stated that Ghiberti must complete three panels a year. However after several years only
four panels were finished, this was due to the number of commissions Ghiberti was working on at one
time. Contracts required that the artist work on one piece of art at a time, Ghiberti disregarded what
the contract stated, working on numerous pieces at any given time. This prompted the Calimala guild
to enforce a new contract that caused Ghiberti to be the sole contractor and held him to stricter terms.
The Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism of Christ, Agony in the Garden, were
most likely cast before 1407. Between 1407 and 1413 the following were completed, the Fathers of
the Church and the Evangelists, Christ among the Doctors, The Temptation of Christ in the Desert,
The Crucifixion, The Last Supper. The panels that were made after 1414 included, The Expulsion of
the Money Changers from the Temple, The Entry into Jerusalem, Christ before Pilate, and The Raising
of Lazarus, and the heads of the prophets. The dates these panels were completed are visible because
of the changes in Ghiberti s artistic style and technique. At each intersection of the doors Ghiberti a

Disadvantages Of Distance Education
1. Introduction Distance education (e.g., online course programs, e learning programs), have presented
challenges for both students and instructors, leading to extensive research on the tenets of what
constitutes quality learning in the differing virtual settings (Boling, Hough, Krinsky, Saleem, Stevens,
2012; Oncu, Cakir, 2011). Preference of online learning has become the norm for over 25% of
students who enroll in an online course at some point during the completion of an undergraduate,

Instructors gravitate towards systematized teaching approaches online in an effort to reduce confusion
and increase course completion (Jimoyiannis, 2012). However little research has shown a direct link
between course completion and structured organization of course content (Mayadas, Bourne, Bacsich,

norms in an online setting by building community in an effort to infuse proponents of social learning
(Young, Bruce, 2011; Cheung, Liu, Lee, 2015; Garrison, Cleveland Innes, Fung, 2010). Researchers
have argued that what motivates students to acquire new knowledge are interpersonal interactions
within a classroom environment (Castillo Merino, Serradell Lopez, 2014; Yu, Tian, Vogel, Chi Wai

Findings have indicated that students desire for elements of personal agency have not changed

The Office of Warren G. Harding
In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall,
Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once were,
and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president in the
decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House garden,
reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship. During his
campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet, something that
appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals, President Harding was
successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had promised, a return to normalcy
and revival, by lowing income tax for the rich, passing many tariffs, and initiating the Washington
Naval Conference.
Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the Bureau
of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it eventually
helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This Bureau also
allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy very easily. It
saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited government
spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced

The Field Of Business Management

Business Management
In the field of business there are several fields of emphasis one can choose to focus their major on. I
chose to major in business management for several very distinct reasons that will appear in this paper.
The first reason I choose to focus on a management major was for the opportunity to work with other
people. Management requires collaboration as opposed to simply being an individual effort. The
second reason I am interested in the field of business management is that I am competitive. Because of
this I prefer to step up in a leadership position. The most significant reason for choosing my major is
that I believe in the saying, the greater the risk, the greater the rewards. I know that as a manager I
have to risk the most as the man in charge. I also recognize that I gain the most out of my successes
for putting the most on the line. These reasons that I will discuss in greater detail are the core of why I
chose to major in business management. As mentioned, my interest in business management comes
largely from a desire to collaborate with my peers, but this also means bringing together new
technologies that are modernizing business today. In his article, The Future of Management, Irving
Wladawsky Berger writes, Management talent is critical. As digitization permeates every nook and
cranny of every company, managers at all levels must be fluent in how to best

Persuasive Essay On Legalization Of Marijuana
Marijuana or cannabis has many names, and more specific names can give you information about a
specific strain of marijuana such as blue dream and Sour Diesel. In most cases when speaking about
marijuana, generally it is often referred to one of its more vague names or slang, such a pot, ganja,
Mary Jane, Etc. Many people around the United States know about marijuana and also the risk and
rewards that come with it. Some states and cities in the US have legalized and regulated this plant
which also helps fuel those economies. Places such as Colorado and Washington state have benefited
from the regulations on the plants, but this may also lead other states or cities to adopt similar laws
and regulations for marijuana. This paper will analyze the benefits of legalizing and regulating
marijuana everywhere in the US.
Marijuana use in the United States can be dated back to the 17th century. At this time farmers were
encouraged to grow marijuana or hemp at the time for the plant weaving capabilities(PBS). The plan
has been known for its use to make ropes, clothing, or even paper from it. It was not until after the
Civil War that the domestic production of marijuana increase which may also have lead to the plant
becoming a popular ingredient and many medicinal products at the time(PBS). Before the 1930s
marijuana had been legal and used in medicinal products. In the early 1900s the Mexican revolution

Creation Myths In Hesiod, Ovid, And Apollodorus
Ancient authors such as Hesiod, Ovid, and Apollodorus set forth to record what they knew of their
gods, especially how these gods created the world and the beings inside of it. Each author provides
different variations of the myths that surround creationism. Modern westerners are familiar with the
creation stories provided within Genesis, not realizing that many elements were borrowed and inspired
by other cultures, such as the Greeks. These myths, even within the same book, can contradicting or
confusing. Between authors, there are often different interpretations, that during the time they were

The story of a flood is popular within many creation myths, the most famous of today told within
Genesis. Ovid declares that Zeus was mad at humanity and commanded Poseidon to flood the earth
(1.262 313). For unknown reasons, Deucalion and Pyrrha have a boat and survive the flood. They
begin to worship the gods, when Themis whispers to them to throw the bones if their mother. They
take this to mean to throw rocks, as Gaia is Mother Earth. They obey, and these rocks turn into
humans and they begin to repopulate the earth (1.314 449). In Apollodorus account of the flood,
Prometheus, the father of Deucalion, warns his son of the flood and tells him to build an ark. After the
water subsides, Deucalion and Pyrrha worship Zeus and he sends Hermes to instruct the couple on
repopulating the earth. Once again, Deucalion and Pyrrha throw rocks, with this time, Deucalion s
rocks turning into men and Pyrrha s turning into women (Apollod. Bibl. 1.46 48). Despite two people
of opposite genders surviving, both accounts relay that humans were created again through

Puerto Rico Imperialism
The international perception of Puerto Rico as an American colony a failed economy or a
misunderstood predicament of colonization
Since the end of the Spanish American War in 1898 the United States has proclaim the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico under United States territory. Spain handed Puerto Rico over to the
United States as spoil of war and to liquidate its war debts. To this day, the political, economic, and

The United States, Colonialism, And Imperialism
Throughout american history, examples of the United States domination of the political, economic,
and social aspects of other countries can be seen. This domination, also known as imperialism, was
primarily caused by a growing sense of nationalism, the influence of supply and demand, and a desire
to maintain global military power. Imperialism is categorized into three different groups: colony,
protectorate, sphere of influence. TRANSITION SENTENCE
Colony imperialism is when a territory or other area of lady is governed directly by a foreign country.
A prime example of colony imperialism is the Purchase of Alaska. The United States Secretary of
States, William Seward wanted Alaska since 1860 because of its potential trade value and resources
such as timber, gold, and trout. The purchase of Alaska began in June 30th 1861 when gold was
discovered in Alaska for the first time, sparking the United States and other colonizing powers interest
in the territory. Russia feared that they would lose Alaska so they began to discuss selling it to the
United State in 1866. . There was disapproval on both sides of the trade. Russian were upset at the
amount of money put into settling Alaskan territories that would be lost after the sale of Alaska.
Americans didn t see the purpose of the sale and one American journalist went as far as writing, Why
does America need this icebox and 50,000 wild Eskimos who drink fish oil for breakfast?

How Contextualism Can Be Used to Disregard Skepticism
Contextualism today, is defined as the truth of a particular knowledge ascription dependent on the
context in which that truth is uttered. Over the past century and decades there have been many great
debates between philosopher s over contextualism and how it can be used to disregard Skepticism. I
agree with Cohen s defense of Contextualism in regard s to both how he answers Skepticism and
Conee s objections. Cohen starts off his defense of Contextualism by first explaining the skeptical
paradox. The skeptical paradox here is the paradox that Cohen sees between Skepticism and
Contextualism Cohen argues that he does see conflict in the paradox, as all the terms can be true
dependent on the context in which it is used. The skeptical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This brings Cohen to the question the fact that in our minds already determining that such strict
skeptical standards don t exist is incorrect as in most cases they can. In essence they are intuitive
judgments, and we can control those judgments. Consequently, this leads Cohen to state that we as
individuals do not know whether our intuitive skeptical judgments are made on correct/false inquiries
about skeptical claims. Cohen describes that even if there is such a correct theory that our skeptical
judgments are correct the question still to be asked/answered is why we have those intuitions and
where such intuitions stem from. It is only then according to Cohen that we may find a rational answer
as a resolution to that paradox. This argument put forth by Cohen takes into account the varied
applications that we don t see in everyday common sense claims. The fact that Cohen believes that
stricter standards can still be applied shows to us that it doesn t depend on the claim and that almost
every claim can be with held to that higher standard of knowledge. To already presume something to a
have lower knowledge standard is something that could be changed when brought into conversation
with individuals who question matter inherently before it can be passed down as knowledge. In
simpler words it doesn t matter what the claim is a stricter skeptical standard can always be applied.

choices for going from one place to another, but more recently cars have also become a popular

The novel is able to share how music is of great importance and is able to affect people s moods and

One of the things that Cannery Row highlights t readers is music. Steinbeck mentions music in the

moods the people are in and also able to help describe the events that is going on. For instance, by
describing the character Doc, Steinbeck adds how music is of great importance to Doc by explaining
the laboratory. Steinbeck mentions that a great phonograph stands against the wall with hundreds of
records lined up besides it. (27) The author did not have to say anything about the phonograph being
great, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I made note of the different characters and how music effected them, for instance with Frankie. He
liked how he felt when there was parties and music playing. However, even though I was able to
acknowledge other characters and the importance of music to them. Somehow, the examples and the
scenes always seemed to be more so with Doc. The music emphasized how Doc was feeling and the
impact it had on his mood. Steinbeck was able to allow the readers to get an idea and a mental visual
of the scene that was occurring. Like when he was on the beach, after seeing the dead girl. I could
almost hear the surf and feel the breeze that was being explained, along with the sad music playing. In
my opinion, I believe that Steinbeck was able to incorporate how music is able to correspond with
individual s thoughts and feelings. Simply by when he stated that Doc hit Mack because of the
destruction in his laboratory, then briefly felt bad for doing it. Steinbeck is able to captivate Doc s
feelings with the song choice he gave Hor ch el Ciel e la Terra by Monteverdi.
Even though Cannery Row s plot can be quite trying at times, I believe that John Steinbeck was able
to give almost a poetic and artistry gesture to the novel. By adding the different music types and
connecting it with different ventures in the novel. The many descriptions that Steinbeck was able to
give was beautiful and had a way to pull his readers into the scenes. Not only was he able to give us
this he was also, in my opinion, able to give many examples on exactly how music is able to reflect
individuals moods and

How Does Michelle Obama Use Ethos In Equal Rights For Women
The two speeches I will be comparing in this essay are Michelle Obama s Speech at the 2016
Democratic National Convention and Shirley Chisholm s Equal Rights For Women Speech because in
my opinion they re great speeches and they both used the appeals in the rhetorical triangle in order to
prove their point and convince the audience. They both reach out to the audience by the choice of
words they use and the way they word their sentences. Michelle Obama s speech she mainly uses all
three rhetorical appeals logos, pathos, and ethos. Shirley Chisholm s speech uses two of the three
rhetorical triangle appeals pathos, and ethos.
The central message of Michelle Obama s speech is that children are the ones that will help shape the
future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first example of why I believe this is because she uses powerful statements such as We know that
our words and actions matter not just to our girls, but to children across this country kids who tell us, I
saw you on TV, I wrote a report on you for school. Kids like the little black boy who looked up at my
husband, his eyes wide with hope, and he wondered, Is my hair like yours.? By saying that people s
actions matter to children she s capable of making the audience feel compassionate, she also shows
that she doesn t care about herself that much, she keeps putting children and everyone else in the
country before herself. When she says The little black boy who looked up at my husband, his eyes
wide with hope she helps the audience see how children hope to be like certain adults when they grow
up because children tend to want to grow up and be like their role models. Another great example to
why I believe her speech was better at persuading her target is when she states Police officers and
protesters in Dallas who all desperately want to keep our children safe. People who lined up in
Orlando to donate blood because it could have been their son, their daughter in that club. Leaders like
Tim Kaine who show our kids what decency and devotion looks

The Between The Monster Grendel And The Old Testament
Allusions to the Books Genesis and Wisdom: The interconnection between the monster Grendel and
the Old Testament
Beowulf displays Christian influences in the description of Grendel especially through the allusion to
the Old Testament. Initially, Grendel is presented as a monster that simply kills without any
justification in why he decides to act in such fashion. However, as one alludes to the Old Testament
specifically to the Book Genesis and the Book Wisdom, the reasoning behind Grendel s actions
become clear. Grendel s tendency to kill out purely out of rage, provides a parallel to the biblical story
of Cain and Abel, which explores the preposterousness of Grendel s human aspects. The monster
Grendel, who is heavily influenced by Cain s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interconnection between Grendel and Cain shows the human side of Grendel, although Grendel s
nature is a monster, he displays human traits of emotion which are exaggerated to the extent of
irrational behavior reinforced through It was no long wait, but the very next night he committed a
greater murder, mourned not at all, for his feuds and sins he was too fixed in them (Beowulf 134 37).
This results in their fates being intertwined in the way they carry their burden of being condemned by
god, reinforced in Grendel s hints of human emotion when He went away wrenched, deprived of joy,
to find his place of death, mankind s foe (Beowulf 1274 75). Ultimately, the biblical story of Cain and
Abel in the Book Genesis explores Grendel s character and motive though the expression of human
emotion as well as the evil nature rooted in the origins of Cain s sin of fratricide.
Grendel, besides the heavy influence of Cain and his sin of fratricide, is also portrayed as a
representative of God s anger towards the Pagans caused by their lack of piety. Neidorf argues that
Grendel s presence after the extinction of the giants caused by the flood links Cain with postdiluvian
monsters, implying God s failed attempt to eliminate the evil that originated from Cain. Neidorf
presents that Grendel alongside other monsters is part of the battle between the evil monsters and God
himself. Scholar, Daniel Anlezark similarly argues God sent mute animals such as Grendel,

  • 2. Domestic Violence As A Personal Choice Domestic Violence As A Personal Choice Sociology 102 Kalah Wilson 11/23/2015 Amber Damiano People are exposed to violence on a daily basis, whether it is through media, personal relationships, or simply observed during daily activities. The few types of violence that are most prominent in today s society are physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and domestic violence. Domestic violence is one of the most problematic and dangerous forms of violence that exist due to the detrimental effects it has on the individuals directly involved, children who witness these acts of violence, and society as a whole. Both men and women can be victims of domestic abuse, however, Safe Horizon states that, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime (Safe Horizon). Everyone who experiences or witnesses domestic abuse are affected in detrimental ways. The abusers often have anger problems or lack of impulse control which only progresses. The victims become physically and emotionally scarred and the children who fall witness to parental domestic violence develop issues with emotional and behavioral functioning as well as social competence. More often than not, domestic violence is a learned behavior by children in abusive homes. Research conducted by The American Medical Association estimates that over 3.3 million children observe spousal abuse every year (Bennett, 1995). Because of this, children will believe this behavior is okay and may even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title says The core purposes of reading I would like to think I know what the main purpose of reading it s to comprehend, interpret data and ideals. On the first page of this chapter I notice there are kids reading a newspaper, the level of interested and overall engagement is quite appealing and gives me, the reader something forward to. Often when I assign reading I make it a practice to have the students do closed reading where there is constant dialogue and discussion going over topics that play an important role on how my students are perceiving the information or how they are integrating ... To think it all started with a class reading assignment, Michael and Antonio were students at Best Practice High School (BPHS), these students were very engaged through their process of learning about nutrition and how the body takes, uses and said food in general. The kids seem to really be taken with the fast food article and called for its immediate attention to anyone who would listen, this is the difference in where the students took their comprehension of what they were reading. When the author was only four years old, his father died, and he and his two siblings were raised in poverty by his mother, Marie Louise Elizabeth Davy de la Pailleterie. He went a private school for a short period of time before he started teaching himself and becoming homeschooled. In 1823, he moved to Paris, where he was able to obtain a comfortable job as a clerk for the Duke of Orleans. By this time, he had developed passions for the ladies and for the theater (Alexandre Dumas). After being inspired by watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost all of his renowned books were collaborations with other writers, primarily Auguste Maquet. Their works included The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. These novels were initially broken down into serials in magazines instead of complete books. Because of all his successes with his novels, the 1840s were the apex of his finances, and he was able to build a luxurious estate. Although Dumas created some of the best known plays and novels in the world, he suffered from many setbacks which ultimately led to his death. He created a controversial, yet popular play in 1832 called The Tower of Nesle. The play depicted many of the vices of the preceding king and was disliked by the new king, Louis Philippe. As a result, the author was exiled from France for a short period of time. He suffered from bankruptcy from wasting too much money on his estate and giving lavish gifts to women. He escaped his creditors by fleeing to Brussels. After he returned to Paris, he worked tirelessly to pay his debts. He created two newspaper companies, which survived about three years each. Then, he had to retreat to first son s home in 1870 because of the Prussian occupation of Paris in the Franco Prussian War. He died two years later in poverty and declining spirits on December fifth at seventy years old (DISCovering Authors). Critical Analysis Although The Three Musketeers is regarded as of the ... As one pole of the magnet nears the coil, a current is produced within the coil.10 This current will grow to a maximum before decreasing as the magnetic pole moves further away producing a sine function. When the opposite end of the pole approaches the coil, the current produced inside the coil is reversed.10 Generally the frequency of the AC sine wave is either 50 or 60 hertz while the period is always 360° when expressed as a measurement.12 Located in the appendix is a diagram of AC sine wave in relation to the coil angle (figure ... Introduction Distance education (e.g., online course programs, e learning programs), have presented challenges for both students and instructors, leading to extensive research on the tenets of what constitutes quality learning in the differing virtual settings (Boling, Hough, Krinsky, Saleem, Stevens, 2012; Oncu, Cakir, 2011). Preference of online learning has become the norm for over 25% of students who enroll in an online course at some point during the completion of an undergraduate, graduate or postsecondary level degree (Young, Bruce, 2011; Elaine Allen, Seaman, 2007). Instructors gravitate towards systematized teaching approaches online in an effort to reduce confusion and increase course completion (Jimoyiannis, 2012). However little research has shown a direct link between course completion and structured organization of course content (Mayadas, Bourne, Bacsich, 2009). Studies over the past decade instead suggest bridging traditional face to face (F2F) classroom norms in an online setting by building community in an effort to infuse proponents of social learning (Young, Bruce, 2011; Cheung, Liu, Lee, 2015; Garrison, Cleveland Innes, Fung, 2010). Researchers have argued that what motivates students to acquire new knowledge are interpersonal interactions within a classroom environment (Castillo Merino, Serradell Lopez, 2014; Yu, Tian, Vogel, Chi Wai Kwok, 2010). Findings have indicated that students desire for elements of personal agency have not changed (Castillo Merino, Serradell Lopez, 2014; Kuo, Walker, Schroder, Belland, 2014). Zhan, Mei (2013) connected student satisfaction with interpersonal elements of online learning environments, indicating that students preferred online course options which incorporated social elements. • 24. The Office of Warren G. Harding In the early 1920s, after facing the struggles of World War I, the Palmer Raids, and Wilson s fall, Americans craved stability. Republicans were promising a return to the settled country we once were, and this eventually led to the election of Warren G. Harding, the first Republican president in the decade. One of his first acts as president was allowing people to walk on the White House garden, reassuring the citizens that their government was returning to them after a time of hardship. During his campaign, Harding called for normalcy , a consistent period of peace and quiet, something that appealed to Americans after the time of relentless strain. Despite the scandals, President Harding was successful during his term, as he delivered to the public what he had promised, a return to normalcy and revival, by lowing income tax for the rich, passing many tariffs, and initiating the Washington Naval Conference. Harding listened to the demands of the rich citizens, in terms of taxes. In 1921, he created the Bureau of the Budget, which provided the government with an accounting of its income, and it eventually helped in assessing past performances and in planning future government programs. This Bureau also allowed the government to decide what is best for the citizens and for the economy very easily. It saved so much money during such a crucial time, as it, for the first time ever, limited government spending. Additionally, Mellon, Harding s Secretary of Treasure, introduced ... • 26. The Field Of Business Management Gerardo Gutierrez Courtney Graeff ENG 122 049 22 October 2014 Business Management In the field of business there are several fields of emphasis one can choose to focus their major on. I chose to major in business management for several very distinct reasons that will appear in this paper. The first reason I choose to focus on a management major was for the opportunity to work with other people. Management requires collaboration as opposed to simply being an individual effort. The second reason I am interested in the field of business management is that I am competitive. Because of this I prefer to step up in a leadership position. The most significant reason for choosing my major is that I believe in the saying, the greater the risk, the greater the rewards. I know that as a manager I have to risk the most as the man in charge. I also recognize that I gain the most out of my successes for putting the most on the line. These reasons that I will discuss in greater detail are the core of why I chose to major in business management. As mentioned, my interest in business management comes largely from a desire to collaborate with my peers, but this also means bringing together new technologies that are modernizing business today. In his article, The Future of Management, Irving Wladawsky Berger writes, Management talent is critical. As digitization permeates every nook and cranny of every company, managers at all levels must be fluent in how to best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In most cases when speaking about marijuana, generally it is often referred to one of its more vague names or slang, such a pot, ganja, Mary Jane, Etc. Some states and cities in the US have legalized and regulated this plant which also helps fuel those economies. Places such as Colorado and Washington state have benefited from the regulations on the plants, but this may also lead other states or cities to adopt similar laws and regulations for marijuana. This paper will analyze the benefits of legalizing and regulating marijuana everywhere in the US. Marijuana use in the United States can be dated back to the 17th century. At this time farmers were encouraged to grow marijuana or hemp at the time for the plant weaving capabilities(PBS). The plan has been known for its use to make ropes, clothing, or even paper from it. It was not until after the Civil War that the domestic production of marijuana increase which may also have lead to the plant becoming a popular ingredient and many medicinal products at the time(PBS). In Apollodorus account of the flood, Prometheus, the father of Deucalion, warns his son of the flood and tells him to build an ark. The United States, Colonialism, And Imperialism Throughout american history, examples of the United States domination of the political, economic, and social aspects of other countries can be seen. This domination, also known as imperialism, was primarily caused by a growing sense of nationalism, the influence of supply and demand, and a desire to maintain global military power. Imperialism is categorized into three different groups: colony, protectorate, sphere of influence. TRANSITION SENTENCE Colony imperialism is when a territory or other area of lady is governed directly by a foreign country. A prime example of colony imperialism is the Purchase of Alaska. The United States Secretary of States, William Seward wanted Alaska since 1860 because of its potential trade value and resources such as timber, gold, and trout. The purchase of Alaska began in June 30th 1861 when gold was discovered in Alaska for the first time, sparking the United States and other colonizing powers interest in the territory. Russia feared that they would lose Alaska so they began to discuss selling it to the United State in 1866. . There was disapproval on both sides of the trade. Russian were upset at the amount of money put into settling Alaskan territories that would be lost after the sale of Alaska. How Contextualism Can Be Used to Disregard Skepticism Contextualism today, is defined as the truth of a particular knowledge ascription dependent on the context in which that truth is uttered. Over the past century and decades there have been many great debates between philosopher s over contextualism and how it can be used to disregard Skepticism. I agree with Cohen s defense of Contextualism in regard s to both how he answers Skepticism and Conee s objections. Cohen starts off his defense of Contextualism by first explaining the skeptical paradox. The skeptical paradox here is the paradox that Cohen sees between Skepticism and Contextualism Cohen argues that he does see conflict in the paradox, as all the terms can be true dependent on the context in which it is used. The skeptical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This brings Cohen to the question the fact that in our minds already determining that such strict skeptical standards don t exist is incorrect as in most cases they can. In essence they are intuitive judgments, and we can control those judgments. Consequently, this leads Cohen to state that we as individuals do not know whether our intuitive skeptical judgments are made on correct/false inquiries about skeptical claims. Cohen describes that even if there is such a correct theory that our skeptical judgments are correct the question still to be asked/answered is why we have those intuitions and where such intuitions stem from. It is only then according to Cohen that we may find a rational answer as a resolution to that paradox. This argument put forth by Cohen takes into account the varied applications that we don t see in everyday common sense claims. The fact that Cohen believes that stricter standards can still be applied shows to us that it doesn t depend on the claim and that almost every claim can be with held to that higher standard of knowledge. To already presume something to a have lower knowledge standard is something that could be changed when brought into conversation with individuals who question matter inherently before it can be passed down as knowledge. In simpler words it doesn t matter what the claim is a stricter skeptical standard can always be applied. Another objection ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Music is important in the novel because it is able to show the affects and moods the people are in and also able to help describe the events that is going on. The music emphasized how Doc was feeling and the impact it had on his mood. Steinbeck was able to allow the readers to get an idea and a mental visual of the scene that was occurring. Like when he was on the beach, after seeing the dead girl. I could almost hear the surf and feel the breeze that was being explained, along with the sad music playing. This results in their fates being intertwined in the way they carry their burden of being condemned by god, reinforced in Grendel s hints of human emotion when He went away wrenched, deprived of joy, to find his place of death, mankind s foe (Beowulf 1274 75).
