Essays On Community Service
Crafting an essay on the theme of community service is a task that demands a delicate balance
between personal reflection, societal analysis, and a genuine commitment to the betterment of
one's surroundings. The difficulty lies not only in presenting a coherent and well-structured
narrative but also in capturing the essence of the service experience and its impact on both the
individual and the community.
The challenge begins with the need to articulate personal experiences in a way that transcends
mere description. Effectively conveying the transformative moments during community service
requires a careful selection of words and a keen awareness of the emotions involved. Moreover,
the writer must navigate the fine line between humility and self-promotion, ensuring that the
focus remains on the service provided rather than the individual providing it.
Moving beyond the personal sphere, the essay must delve into the broader implications of
community service. This involves addressing systemic issues, analyzing the root causes of social
problems, and proposing realistic solutions. This broader perspective requires a deep
understanding of societal structures, which adds another layer of complexity to the writing
process.
Furthermore, an essay on community service necessitates a nuanced exploration of the ethical
considerations involved. It requires the writer to reflect on questions of privilege, power
dynamics, and the potential pitfalls of well-intentioned but misguided efforts. This level of
critical thinking and self-awareness adds depth to the essay but also raises the difficulty level.
In conclusion, composing an essay on community service demands not just eloquence but a
profound understanding of the complexities inherent in serving one's community. It requires the
ability to weave together personal anecdotes, societal analysis, and ethical reflections seamlessly.
Successfully navigating these challenges can result in a powerful piece that not only highlights
the importance of community service but also inspires readers to engage in meaningful
contributions to their communities.

The True Meaning of DanteВґs Inferno Essay
Religious people always fear that they will not make it to Heaven or the place their
God resides. The bible and other religious text give advice on how to avoid the pain
of Hell. Dante Alighieri, a famous Italian poet, wrote about the physical description of
Hell and the punishments each sinner would receive for their sins. Although The
Divine Comedychronicles Dante s journey from the depths of Hellto the glory of
Heaven it contains a deeper meaning. Dante reveals the true meaning of the Inferno
through his leading motif, his interactions between the sinners, and the intertwining
of other literary works into the Inferno. The repeated motif of the number three is
used to represent the Holy Trinity and all things holy. The first... Show more content

This indulgent type of behavior is seen in the sinners in the second through sixth
circle of hell. The lion represents the sin of violence. Dante describes the lion as
approaching with a ravenous hunger. Even the air was afraid of the lion. Dante
choose the lion to represent violence because they are known as the kings of the
jungle. Their powerful legs and long teeth allow them to quickly take down and
kill their prey. Male lions contain pride that causes them to violently fight to remain
the head of their pack. This violent behavior can be found in the seventh layer of
hell where the tyrants, killers, and war hungry sinners reside. The leopard
represents malice. Dante choose the leopard because they may be the smallest of
the four big cats (tiger, lion, jaguar, and leopard) it still has the capability to take
down prey up to twice its size. The leopard also is an equal opportunity killer. They
will hunt down any prey for food. Some have even been known to attack people on
occasion. This type of malicious behavior can be found on the 8th and 9th circles of
hell. These two circles of hell contain the worst sinners known to man. Soon after his
encounter with the three beasts Dante meets the spirit of his idol a poet named
Virgil. It is h ere that we see another three. Virgil informs him that three women sent
him to be Dante s guide. As his guide Virgil leads Dante through the nine circles of
hell often with the words
Thernstrom s Argument Analysis
Robert D. Putnam et. al. and Abigail Thernstrom et. al. address affirmative action
policies at colleges and universities as a broader social issue than just an individual
getting into the university in their amicus curiae briefs. Thernstrom submitted her
amici brief in favor of the petitioner, Abigail N. Fisher et. al., and Putnam submits his
amici brief in favor of the respondents, The Universityof Texas et. al. The University
of Texas chose not to admit Ms. Fisher, who was then a high school student. Ms.
Fisher then sued the University, arguing that the use of race in applications and
admission decisions to and of the University were discriminatory under the 14th
Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. These amici briefs were submitted... Show

His experience in the classroom and his substantial research into both the positives
and negatives of diversity make his clear, concise arguments are incredibly
convincing, especially in regards to his own university classroom.
Thernstrom, on the other hand, appears to be attempting to make a case for self
evidence. Her arguments, such as minority students getting into universities because
of upward ratcheting appear unsubstantiated. Indeed, her claim that many minority
students cannot catch up to other students itself appears unsubstantiated. Further,
because of she argues that many. Her omission of Dr. Putnam s research when it
directly contradicted her arguments further diminishes her amicus curiae brief.
Affirmative action, and race based admissions standards, are the best way to
increase (or maintain) diversity at institutions of higher learning. In spite of its
perceived flaws, it has increased the diversity at previously all white institutions of
higher learning, such as the University of Texas at Austin, and that diversity has
allowed friendships to be formed that otherwise would not have been, has allowed
students to learn from professors they otherwise would never have and allowed
professors to learn from students from a wide variety of
Psychology Of Hate Crime Offenders
Psychology of Hate Crime Offenders
Melissa K. Mark
University of Phoenix
September 2015
Abstract
This study investigated data regarding criminal offenses categorized as hate crimes
that are motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender s bias against a race, religion,
sexual orientation, ethnicity/national origin, or disability and are committed against
persons, property, or society , (Hall 2013) with a speculative focus upon the
psychological typology of the offender. Findings yield five major categories of the
offender: thrill seeking, reactive/defensive, retaliatory, mission, and bias peripheral
/mixed (Freilich 2013). The study yielded that individuals who commit hate crimes
are not diagnostically mentally ill, but they do share characteristics of high levels of
aggression and antisocial behavior, with childhood histories of parental or caretaker
abuse, and use of violence to solve family problems. Findings are considered in terms
of clinical intervention and risk assessment practices with hate crime offenders using
a chi squared test for nominal (categorical) data to determine whether an
association between two categorical variables in a sample is likely to reflect a real
association between these two variables in a population. Hate crime generally
refers to a criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in
part by an offender s bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual
orientation , (Hall, 2013).
A Comforting View of Death in William Cullen
Bryant’s...
Chuck Palahniuk once said, The first step to eternal life, is you have to die. In
William Cullen Bryant s poem Thanatopsis , he does not mention eternal life or
anything religious, but speaks about death. He tells his readers that death is a natural
thing and they should not worry about it. William Cullen Bryant, in his poem
Thanatopsis, portrays a comforting view of death. Throughout the poem, Bryant
encourages his readers by explaining that in death they are not alone, that death, like
life, is a natural process, and that they will be among some of the finest people who
walked the earth. Bryant uses the fact that we are not alone in death to comfort his
readers. Through this, he explains that when people die, they will be... Show more

In addition to Bryant s portrayal of death as comforting, he also depicts it as a part
of nature. Bryant explains that death, like life, is a part of nature, which was a
loved and cherished aspect of the nineteenth century. In the period of Romanticism,
nature was an important ideal; it was viewed as the source for everything. In
Thanatopsis , Bryant uses nature as a comfort zone, saying that when one dies,
they will become a part of nature. He says that the bodies will be used to nurture
the earth. Bryant also mentions that we once were made as a part of nature and
that people will die as a part of it as well. He states: ...and lost each human trace,
surrending up thine individual being shalt thou go to mix forever with the
elements. Bryant is saying that bodies will decay and eventually become one with
the earth and nature. Along with becoming a part of nature, Bryant explains that
the deceased people will be with some of the finest people who walked the earth. In
order to make his readers feel ultimately comfortable, Bryant also says that when
everyone dies, they will be with some of the finest people who walked the earth. By
the expression finest people , Bryant means all the important figures and
contributors in history. He says that people will be resting in the same place as these
figures are: in the earth. He uses this to comfort his readers by saying that by dying,

Essay The Whole Town s Sleeping and Terribly Strange Bed
The Whole Town s Sleeping and Terribly Strange Bed
In this essay I will be comparing two (2) short stories The Whole
Town s sleeping by Ray Bradbury (1950) and A Terribly Strange Bed by Wilkie
Collins (1856). Both stories are about fear and they make us feel fear or are supposed
to; they make the reader scared or frightened. Both stories have the same purpose,
which is so scare the reader. I am going to compare the way Ray Bradbury and Wilkie
Collins create tension, suspense, mood and tone.
In the first few lines of The Whole Town s Sleeping , the author describes the
setting for the story, the little town was deep far away from everything, kept to
itself by a river and a forest and a ravine , but before that he ... Show more content on

A Terribly Strange Bed , however is different, as the author seems to create a
different mood and tone in the openings to the story. He uses words like rather a wild
life , delightful city of our sojourn , idling about , and splendid city . In A Terribly
Strange Bed the city in which the story is set, is praised in the story, although not
really mentioned much delightful city of our sojourn it doesn t seem to play a large
part in the story and doesn t seem to be anything special. However in The Whole
Town s sleeping , quite the opposite is the case, the first two paragraphs (half the
page) are all about the setting and this is very important to the mood and tone of the
story without it, you might not believe that a madman could run around killing
people for months without being caught.
Tension and Suspense are also very important in both stories. Tension is built up a
little at the beginning of The Whole Town s sleeping , before the women find the
body and its unexpected. The main excitement of the story is at the end, when
Lavinia is running through the ravine. The tension is build up using sentences that
get shorter and shorter, so that you read them faster and faster until the last
sentences are only a couple of words long and the reader is getting really excited.
Then when Lavinia reaches the house and locks the door, the reader feels the relief
that the
Early Life Of The Minotaus
Imagine having the body of a man, but the head and tail of a bull. Now imagine your
mom is a human and your dad is a giant bull. This is what the Minotaur had to deal
with his entire life. The Minotaur was the most unfortunate character in Greek
mythology considering his appearance, early life, and adulthood. The Minotaurhad a
terrible body appearance. He had the head and tail of a bull, but the body of a man.
He was very large and considered a monster and an unnatural being because of how
he looked (Karas). Many people also probably ran away from the Minotaur even
only after getting a glimpse of him, not even getting to know him more. This could
ve been a contributing factor as to why he started eating people later in life. The
Minotaur also had the worst early life of any character in mythology. For one, his
dad was a great white bull, and his mom, Pasiphae, was a normal human (Garcia).
Many people wonder how his parents were two different creatures. Minos, the
husband of Pasiphae, once had two brothers, and they all wanted to become King
of Crete after their father passed away. He bragged that he had the favor of the
gods and could ask for anything. He prayed to Poseidon, and he listened to Minos.
Poseidon sent him a majestic white bull and told him to sacrifice it. Having received
the bull, Minos demonstrated his power to his brothers and became king, but he did
not sacrifice the white bull. Poseidon became angry, and cursed Pasiphae to fall in
love with the bull.
Steve Jobs And Fred Shuttlesworth
How These Two Men,That Died on the Same Day, Affected Your Life
I took a look back in history, I came across a couple of men that died on the same
day. Both of these men have had a great impact on us all. They are responsible for
changes that have happened in times of segregation, to a more current time
surrounded by IPhones. Steve Jobs and Fred Shuttlesworth are responsible for these
changes that have created the world as we know it today. Although, both men were
phenomenal at what they did, one will always be better. Fred Shuttlesworth fought
for life changing outcomes. He was a blunt, driven, and confrontational man, and
maybe the reason you are allowed to be where you are today. Steve Jobs and Fred
Shuttlesworth were both hard working individuals, that made their dreams come to
life. Although, they may be similar in a lot of ways, their impact on the world was
very different.
Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco, California. Steve Jobs
showed an early interest in electronics and was mentored by a neighbor, who was
an electronic hobbyist. In only the eighth grade, Steve was assembling a frequency
counter and noticed that he was missing a crucial part. He then gave William
Hewlett, co founder of Hewlett Packard, a call to let him know about this missing
part. Mr. Hewlett sent Jobs the missing parts and then offered Steve Jobs a summer
intern job. Jobs met his future partner, Mr. Wozniak, while attending Homestead High
School. He
A Paradigm For Multiple Input Multiple Output ( Mimo )...
Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling
demands diversity technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing.
In this paper, error performance of MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal
space time block code (OSTBC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques
over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG distribution forms a composite
channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath as well as
shadowing. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for
MIMO systems using OSTBC and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects
of fading severity by varying shape parameters are also shown by simulation and
analytical results. Keywords Multiple input multiple output (MIMO), orthogonal
space time block code (OSTBC), maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull gamma
(WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER). Introduction In the present wireless systems,
the demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high data rate and reliable
communication requirement is increasing. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO)
systems are investigated to achieve these requirements. Also, diversity techniques
are recommended to increase the reliability of system. Orthogonal space time block
codes (OSTBCs) are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full transmit
diversity while allowing a simple maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. This
algorithm is based on linear processing of received signals [1 2]. MIMO system uses
Higher Education for Military Personnel
Education has always been a huge benefit for military personnel. Not only too
further one s career, but for those that wish to seek employment after their time in
service. Now employers look more favorable toward both the experience that men
and women get from the service and to include the education they receive during or
after their enlistment. Mostly due to the fact that they are driven to always do better
for themselves and their career. They also have the discipline and respect to adapt to
whatever the future may bring.
In the state of Ohio there are close to 400 colleges and universities, but among them
are only 96 schools that are considered veteran friendly. Within those schools they
just do the bear minimum in support for these men and women; where as other
schools go above and beyond to aid those. So what are some of these schools doing
to support some of our nations finest men and women? What within the northwest
Ohio region should veterans be looking for when selecting a college?
To really absorb the difference of a university that is considered veteran friendly and
those that are not, future students need not look no further then that of their
surrounding area: Owens Community College, Bowling Green University, Toledo
University, and Franklin University. These are some of the top rated schools for
veterans that provide programs where other schools are lacking.
All four of these schools are part of the Service members Opportunity Colleges
(SOC). This was
The Importance Of Creating A Website
When creating a website, it should have a myriad of essential entities. A site should
be colorful, fun to look at, and most importantly accessible to others in need! When
creating this website for Tony s Chips new company, as a software engineer it would
be vitally important to capture everyone attention to our new and improved
companies site. By creating this website, it would be amazing to incorporate all forms
of software development such as design, databases, and structure. In this website, it
was essential to add a substantial amount of color, diversity, and a plethora of helpful

people have a hard time trying to find things on a site, by doing this you re ending
the hassle that can be hard for users when viewing your site. Adding videos to
websites play an important role also. This can be a tutorial video, or even a fun
video welcoming new, and returning users to the website page. On my webpage, I
deiced to add both. I added a few tutorial videos on how to use the site, who is Tony
Chip, what is the company, and its products, along with how to order them. I also
added a welcome video to my followers thanking them for choosing my webpage to
view the companies fantastic success stories and other people that purchase from
the company. Also, to reduce the redundancy of other sites we decided to add
tutorials, and videos of my users are uploading their best photos. When
approaching the topic of designing a website layout, sometimes you can over
construct ideas, so it best to get the pen to paper, and merely sketch out an idea
layout of your website. I made sure that my web page was easy to navigate, easy for
users to locate content on each page, and easy for users to find what they need on

In particular, small changes in inputs can result in large changes in the value of a
company, given the need to project cash flow to infinity. James Montier argues that,
while the algebra of DCF is simple, neat and compelling, the implementation becomes
a minefield of problems . He cites, in particular, problems with estimating cash flows
and estimating discount rates. Despite the issues, DCF analysis is very widely used
and is perhaps the primary valuation tool amongst the financial analyst community.
2.2. Terminal Value
Terminal Value, in simple term, is the value of a company with an infinite row of
constant future cash flows.
To arrive at a total company value, or enterprise value, we simply have to take the
present value of the cash flows and the Terminal value, divide them by the discount
rate and, finally, add up the results. If we are discounting free cash flow of the firm
at the weighted average cost of capital, this would give the value of the firm, so it
would be necessary to deduct net debt in order to arrive at the equity value. In this
report, simply use FCF in the year of 2011 to compare the value of the firm to the
stock price in the year end of 2011.
2.3. Weighted Average Cost of Capital
The Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) is the discount rate used in a
Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis to present value projected free cash flows and
terminal value.
The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar
Essay
The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar
The European Economic Community (EEC), also known as the common market,
was established in 1957 through the treaty of Rome signed between Belgium,
France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Germany in order to achieve
economic cooperation. It has since worked for the free movement of labor and
capital, the abolition of trusts and cartels, and the development of joint and
reciprocal policies on labor, social welfare, agriculture, transport, and foreign trade.
Over the years, monetary union has been suggested by the members of the EEC and
was finally attained on January 1,1999 when eleven European countries, which are
now collectively referred to as Euroland, introduced a ... Show more content on

The Euro is the newly created currency of the European Economic Community, a
currency that became legal tender on January 1, 1999. By 2002, euro notes and coins
will replace the Austrian schilling, Belgian franc, Finnish markka, French franc,
German mark, Irish punt, Italian lira, Luxembourg franc, Dutch guilder, Portuguese
escudo, and Spanish peseta. These 11 nations will share a common currency, a single
monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy. Currencies not only
serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent way of
expressing value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also
they serve as a store of value, allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance
and to store it for indefinite periods of time. There are two main reasons for this
monetary union within the EEC (European Economic Community), one being a
political reason and the other an economic reason. The political arguments are that a
single currency will further unite the European alliance, which was formed after
WWII, by forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This could
perhaps eliminate nationalism and bring unity to this continent, which has been
plagued by war twice in the last century. The Economic reasons for the euro project
can be found in the relatively poor performance of the European economies over the
last twenty years or more. Europe has, for a long time, suffered form
Pull Factors In Europe During The Fifteenth Century
Multiple conditions fostered increased exploration and trade in Europe during the
fifteenth century. These conditions can be divided into two categories: push factors
and pull factors. Push factors are situations and/or conditions in a given area that
cause people to want to leave. Some examples of these include religion and the
Renaissance. Pull factors are situations and/or conditions in an area that cause people
to want to come to a given area. Some examples of pull factors include mythical
appeal, personal/country glory, and riches. Both push and pull factors widely affected
Europes exploration age during the fifteenth century. One push factor was religion. In
several countries, citizens were being executed for their religious beliefs. Mary I, for
examples, executed hundreds of Protestants. Several incidences such as pushed

The Renaissance fostered creative thinking and curiosity. As the population slowly
increased, economic prosperity created powerful new incentives for exploration and
trade. The Europeans were thus pushed to go out and explore in search of items for
trade. The trade of plants and animals between the lands greatly affected both
cultures. For example, the reintroduction of the Horse to the Native American life
made Indians in many tribes dependent on this new creature. Used for hunting,
fighting, farming, and so much more, the horse quickly became a staple in Native
American culture. Equally dramatic was the effect of American crops, specifically
Maize, on European and African societies. This crop revolutionized the diets of both
plants and animals. An unintended effect of all the trade was trade of diseases, which
drastically reduced the Native American population size. Within fifty years of the first
contact, European and African diseases nearly exterminated the native population of
Hispaniola and devastated the densely populated Valley of

Compare Pike And Hunting Snake
Pike and Hunting Snakes are unusual topics to be discussed with an approbational
tone. They are fierce and violent animals, but in the poems Pike written by Ted
Hughes and Hunting Snake written by Judith Wright, they are discussed with high
regard and acclaim. Both poets observe the beauty and allure of these animals who
have killer instincts and an aggressive nature. In Hughes poem Pike he uses paradox
to highlight the pikes beauty and a sense of threat, in the introductory four stanzas.
He uses highly praising adjectives such as grandeur , gold , emerald and delicacy to
portray the beauty, majesty and fragility of pike. The words emerald and gold seem
to illustrate Hughes very high regard for an animal that is treasured... Show more

qualities that this animal possesses, alongside being wary of its threat. Wright also
describes the snake as he rather than it . Personifying the snake shows the high
regard the poet has for the animal, it also portrays it as a fellow companion rather
than a specie which is viewed as less worthy. She writes with respect and high esteem
for the snake, but is still utterly shaken by the
Compare And Contrast Mrs. Dubose And Mrs. Dubose
Mrs Dubose is represented as a mean old lady but in reality she s just struggling
with her health. Mrs. Dubose has suffered many years with addiction and is trying
to take care of her health but the kids do not believe that because she is a mean
person. Jem and Scout try to avoid walking by her house because she s really rude
to them. One day when Scout walked by, she said: Hey Mrs. Dubose, I would
receive for an answer, Don t you say hey to me, you ugly girl! You say good
afternoon Mrs. Dubose! she was vicious (pg 115). Scout judges Mrs. Dubose based
on how she behaves towards her without getting to actually know her, this is seen
when Mrs. Dubose uses the word ugly to describe Scout. However Scout similarly
describes Mrs Dubose negatively by calling her vicious, although Scout has never
made the effort to understand her personal struggles. Likewise After Mrs. Dubose
s death, Atticus said to Jem I wanted you to see something about her I wanted you
to see something about her I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of
getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. (pg. 112). Atticus
wanted his kids to see the side of Mrs. Dubose that he knew himself. Atticus wanted
them to see the courage she had and how strong she was in reality. The kids
thought she was just a mean old lady, but behind closed doors, she was a hero. Jem
and Scout thought that Mrs. Dubose was a mean old lady. They did not believe or
see what Atticus saw in Mrs. Dubose.
Fertility Rate And Age Specific Fertility Rates
This paper will explore the population phenomena pertaining to Singapore acquiring
and sustaining low fertility, which has ultimately resulted in an ageing population.
There is a multitude of interconnected factors that have contributed to Singapore s
low fertility, and more importantly how this has reduced younger populations being
added every year. However, this paper will focus on the premise that women s higher
educational attainment has prompted a delay in marriage, and thus a delay in having
babies. Therefore, this paper will evaluate statistics retrieved from the International

is expected to have over a period of time based on a specific population (Poston
Bouvier, 2010, p. 45). In Singapore, the Age Specific Fertility Rate peaked for
women between the ages 30 34 in 1997, 2007, and 2017. However, while there was
a reduction in fertility rates for all ages across a women s life span from 1997 to
2007, there was a slight increase in fertility rates in 2017 for the age groups 30 34,
34 39, 40 44, and 45 49 (Refer to Graph 1). While elderly women tend to have fewer
babies on average than younger ones, which is true for Singapore, the slight increase
in childbearing in later years indicates changes in the structure of individual lives and
the society as a whole. This data ultimately suggests that women in Singapore are
waiting longer to get married and have children, which are pertinent causes of the
country s low fertility and ageing population. While there are many societal and
economic factors contributing to delays in marriage and reproduction, this paper will
focus primarily on the increase of Singaporean women obtaining higher education and
subsequently joining the workforce. In the article, Delayed marriage and ultra low

Benedick And Claudio In William Shakespeare s Much
Ado...
In the book Much Ado About Nothing, there are two friends Claudio and Benedick,
who are very different yet have many similarities. Claudio on the one hand was as
one would say the romantic but Benedick on the other hand was an arrogant ladies
man. During the beginning of Act 1 Claudio is introduced to Hero the daughter of
Signior Leonato and is immediately interested in her stating that quote, she is the
sweetest lady that ever I looked on. Though interested in her, Claudio wanted
Benedick s approval. When hearing that Claudio was attracted to Hero Benedick
immediately was in disapproval of the thought, for in his eyes she was quote too
low for high praise, too brown for fair praise, and too little for great praise. Though
disappointed of Benedick s disapproval, Claudio chose to still peruse Hero. Later
on Claudio and Hero get engaged but when Don John an evil man here s about the
engagement he devises a plan to deceived Claudio and destroy the marriage. When
Don John s plan is put into action Claudio falls right into the trap and believes that
Hero is cheating on him. Though Claudio is furious he does not confront Hero with
his problem but rather holds on to the information until the wedding. The wedding
day arrives, and everything is in place. Once Hero has come down the aisle Claudio
then starts accusing her of cheating on him. Instead of confronting Hero alone to talk
about what he saw, Claudio choose to humiliate her in front of her family and friends.

How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay
In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought
widespread attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because
parents deemed the music as sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for
themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was given a collective charge when young
adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the Vietnam War and the
use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the hippies .
This paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashburyin San Francisco,
California and illustrate how the hippiecounterculture transformed into an evolution

In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic
Society and Its Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a
counterculture as typically involving disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those
institutions which presently hold some level of dominance, while simultaneously
having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of thinking and being.
There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie movement
of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product
of the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with
drugs as well as political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This
notion was argued by anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The
Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture.
Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of
organizations and elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the
importance of efficiency, rationalizing, planning, and necessity, which hippies felt
was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight against communism between
the United States and U.S.S.R.
War Parenting Styles Essay
It has been shown that kids that grow up where there is a war happening show
negative effects afterwards, like depression or PTSD. However, some children are
more vulnerable to these negative effects, and one of the main reasons has to do with
their parents parenting style. The parenting style that is used is different throughout
families; the three styles are authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive. Furthermore,
another factor that can increase or decrease a child s vulnerability, is how much
affection and support their parents show them. The purpose of the study was to find
what parenting style, and how much parental warmth is necessary for children to not
be as affected after a war. This study involved Israeli kids ages 12 through... Show

The type of parenting style in Israel can help children drastically after war to not
show as many negative symptoms after the traumatic event. Our text did mention that
overall authoritative parenting seems to show more positive effects. The reason is
that authoritative parenting has high expectations of maturity but with parental
warmth, while permissive parenting involves a lot of dialogue and parental warmth
but few limits, and authoritarian parenting involves high demands and little parental
warmth. Authoritative parenting is pretty much a mixture of authoritarian and
permissive, and this seems to work best in several countries. I believe the reason
authoritative parenting helps lower negative symptoms in children exposed to
violence is because the mothers show plenty of love towards their children while
also speaking to their children about their feelings. When children have been
exposed to a traumatic event they need at least one person who they can rely on.
Kids at such a young age might be confused or scared, it s important for them to have
a mother or father who takes the time to speak to them about any doubts they might
have. Additionally, it was shocking to find that how the fathers acted towards their
children didn t matter. In the future it would be
Masculinity And Its Perception By Male Characters Essay
James Baldwin is a wonderful author in regards to weaving certain topics, both
controversial and non controversial, into his texts. The struggle with masculinity is
one of a plethora of topics that Baldwin discusses. Although they might seem
insignificant, they serve a great purpose in introducing the societal views of these
ideas and definitions through different perspectives. Masculinity and its perception
by male characters is a topic that is touched on in many of his texts. Whether it s
through the difficulty behind understanding masculinity or using it as a façade to
cloak another secret, Baldwin s characters bring a numerous amount of questions
surrounding the idea of what masculinity is and what it serves others in society.
This topic relates to how 21st Century American society views men and the
importance of a masculine identity. There is this immense backing of the idea that
an ideal man is this macho, testosterone driven individual who can only discuss
sports, drink large amounts of alcohol, and explicit sexual interactions with women,
or what is now considered hypermasculinity . Hypermasculinity is what society
paints as what a man should be , states Tratel Ingram, writer for MTV Voices and
author of the article The Pressure to be Masculine. Hypermasculinity can be defined
as a term for the exaggeration of male stereotypical behavior, such as an emphasis on
physical strength, aggression, and sexuality... It s extremely damaging to men and
boys everywhere.
A Description Of My Life
This way please, Mr. Gamboni, said the maid as she led me into the dark paneled
and coffer beamed library. On a table was an Evian du Val Saint vase of fresh cut
lilacs, but their fragrance could not mask the telltale musty odor of old, dusty
books. I suppressed an urge to cough, an allergic reaction to mold. Adjusting to the
scant light from the velvet draped windows, fireplace, and reading lamps, I was
struck by the size of the room, quite large enough to host a gathering of fifty or
more. We walked by a lamp, and I noticed that it was a genuine Tiffany. Featured on
either side of the fireplace were original oils of Van Gogh, Renoir, and other
prominent artists. However, the focus of the room was a large portrait above the

III. Born Abigale Smythe, some 60 years ago this past December, she always
demanded being addressed as Mrs. Winnaford. A stern, no nonsense woman, she
rarely took no for an answer and had developed a keen interest in the occult since
her sister s death. Emma died four years ago at the age of 48 after a prolonged
illness. As the story goes, she and Mrs. Winnaford devised a code word to expose
mediums claiming to have contacted her from beyond. That could be problematic,
but with my skill as a hypnotist, the old lady would reveal it to me. Several
mediums tried to contact Emma, but failed, and in the process, Mrs. Winnaford
exposed them as fakes. Well, she never met Gamboni the Great. We are all fakes, you

After the voice stopped, Riku got out of the sleeping chamber he was in. He walked
out of the shrine, and the first thing he saw after a hundred years amazed him. The
shrine he came out of was part of cliff covered with fresh, earthy grass, swaying back

Jonathan Edward Puritan Sermons Analysis
Jonathan Edwards was the most prominent and powerful of all the Puritan leaders, he

Puritanism was on the decline. The notoriety of the Salem witchcraft trials, killed

The Differences Between Native Americans And American...
When thinking about what the difference between how the Native American
families lived versus what families look like in 2016. There is a big gap in years to
start off with from 1776 to 2016 that is more than 240 years of a difference. Over
that gap of years many things have changed in what people look as a standard family.
Families dynamics are very different from how the Native Americans lived with
their tribes and how people live now. Native Americans were very close with family
and lived in a very tight community or also known as tribes. There are a couple
things that Native Americans did because it was a culture thing that they had done
for years.
If you were a child, your father was a guest in your mother s home. Although strong
bonds existed between wives and husbands, a woman s ties to her maternal kin her
mother, her mother s brothers, her maternal cousins were generally stronger (Cherlin,

For boys when they hit puberty they had to move out of their parents house and
into men s ceremonial houses and were married soon after. Men never really went
back to living with their parents because women were supposed to be closer with
their parents. Also most of the men got married to women in a different tribe. But
for girls they lived with their parents tell they got married and when they got
married they either lived in the same house with the parents or on the parent s land.
Also most of the marriages were arranged by elders in the tribe to help gain better

dye their hair a certain color does not make it a distraction to others. This topic
really stood out to me because I wear hairstyles like this all time, and I do not feel
as if anyone should or can punish me for doing so. Granted, the twins are supposed
to get punished for the hairstyles they had because in their school policy, it says
that braids are not allowed, Students may not wear drastic or unnatural hair colors

that these rules were created to suppressed the black students. It is ridiculous that the

Themes in Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Othello was written by Jacobean playwright William Shakespeare in 1603. It proved
a huge success when first performed in 1604, in front of a huge audience. The story
is one of Shakespeare s great tragedy themed plays. Othello is the black protagonist
and highly esteemed Venetian general. Iago is the ambitious but scheming villain of
the play. When Othellopromotes a man called Michael Cassio over Iago, he is furious
and launches a malicious campaign against Othello. Meanwhile, Othello has married
a white woman, Desdemona, without her father knowing. Through Iago s plotting,
Othello suspects that his wife is having an affair and after many murders and plots,
Othello smothers his wife. But he finds out the truth about Iago, and horrified at...

He will take advantage of Othello and is using him for his own means.
Shakespeare wrote this to foreshadow the future, creating tension, because the
audience know there is dishonesty and deception to follow. This is supported by
the quote: in following him, I follow but myself I am not who I am . It y shows
you that Iago does not wear his heart on his sleeve. The word master sounds
mocking, as if Iago is going to betray Othello so this creates tension. So the themes
of hate and appearance vs. reality are introduced through Iago s dialogue. Iago
expresses his hate for Othello He says: ...I do hate him as I do hell pains . The
simile hate explains how much Iago loathes Othello. He compared hatred to hell.
The modern audience aren t as affected by the reference to hell, but the Jacobean
audience would feel the true extent of Iago s hatred. The setting of act one also
contributes to the hatred felt in the play. It is dark and there is a sense of mystery,
creates a tense and dramatic atmosphere. Words such as: despise devil and hell
support this. The references to hell would have made the Jacobean audience weary.
Iago s evil soliloquy is full of hatred and revenge: Hell and night must bring this
monstrous birth to the worlds light . The dark, evil images create a strong reaction in
both audiences. ...to the worlds light indicates scheming will start, doubt will surface.
...monstrous indicates the idea in Iago s head is like a

Dr. Montessori gave us a Decalogue. Comment on each one of them. What can
happen if we did not did not follow them. You could refer to your personal
experiences.
The Montessori Decalogue are explained as below.
1. Never touch the child unless invited by him (in some way or another).
Unless there is a very strong reason to (like avoiding an accident, for example), it is
important that one should never touch a child unless a child requests it. Picking up a
child without the child s consent, even if in a playful manner, or grabbing her hand,
pushing her, etc., should always be avoided. If children are engaged, looking at a
book, working, playing, resting, the same principle applies. Children invite contact in
many ways, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

abandonment.
6. Respect the child who makes a mistake and can then or later correct it herself, but
stop firmly and immediately any misuse of the environment and any action which
endangers the child, its own development or that of others.
Avoid rushing to correct mistakes a child has committed. Children are learning to
cope and function. They will persist and practice to their heart s content whatever
skill they need to acquire, until they master it. If a child starts throwing things
around and disrespecting the environment, by all means, stop her. Yet, explain why
you had to stop her. Reason and listen to what the child may have to say. Maria
Montessori said that a child s first tantrums are the first ills of her soul. There is
always a reason for everything. Try to bring the reason to light. Punishing, isolating
the child, etc., will only feed her pain, and burry deep those reasons she will learn to
hide rather than communicate.
7. Respect the child who takes a rest or watches others working or ponders over what
she herself has done or will do. Neither call her nor force her to other forms of
activity.
A child that is idle is often not idle at all... Children need to be given space to find
what it is they are interested in and want to do. Once they do, they pursue their
interests
Upper Class Taxes Essay
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Such a phrase has become accepted as a
part of American life. A country that was built on opportunities has become
complacent of the equalities that are being taken away from them and are being
given to the elites. Currently there are 7 income tax brackets for heads of
households ranging from 12% of $9,525 to 37% of $500,000. However, in 1978
there were 34 brackets for heads of household income tax ranging from 14% of
$8,492(2,200)to 70% of $703,351.32 (182,200),adjusted for inflation. What can be
observed is that there has been a decrease in the highest tax margin, once $700,000
now $500,00. as well as a 37% decrease in the highest tax, was 70% now 33%. This

I.INTRODUCTION
Cloud computing simply means Internet computing , generally the internet is seen as
collection of clouds; thus the word cloud computing can be defined as utilizing the
internet to provide technology enabled services to the people and organizations[1].
Cloud computing is a powerful emerging service that provides an optimized and
efficient computing platform by using sharing and virtualization concepts and
improving availability, scalability, collaboration and agility for users and enterprises

benefits of sorting and maintaining resources in unlimited storages with the most cost
efficient method, business continuity and scalability [3]. However, the only hurdle in
wide adoption of this newfound technology is lack of security especially in data
protection, authentication, and data transmission subject [4].
Cloud computing system is divided into 2 sections: The first section is known as
front end and another section is the back end[5]. Front end is through which client
can access the cloud data. Back end is collection of computers that provide services

Black Music and the Civil Rights Movement Essay
On July 5, 1954, forty nine days after the Supreme Court handed down the decision
on the Brown vs. Board of Education case, a nineteen year old truck driver recorded
an Arthur Crudup blues track called That s All Right Mama (Bertrand 46).
Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips found the cut and played it on his radio show
a few weeks later. He received calls all over from people, mostly white, who wanted
to hear more. He quickly located the musician and brought him into the studio for an
interview, audiences were shocked to learn that Elvis was white (Bertrand 46). Elvis s
music brought black music into white mainstream pop culture almost overnight. The
breakthrough of Elvis happening almost simultaneously with the dawn of... Show

In the Puritan world white represented good and black represented evil, including
Africans and their culture. After the War Baldwin states that the former puritanical
views of whites will be challenged. Musicians such as Elvis Presley were the first to
issue this challenge to white society. Early rockers such as Elvis would pave the
way for social commentary in music that would add much fire to the Civil Rights
Movement. In order to fully understand the explosion in popularity of black music
in the years following World War II, one must understand the social conditions in
which blacks and whites lived in the American South. An article entitled Not Just
the Same Old Show on my Radio delves into the very issues behind racism. The
article names aspects necessary for social segregation to exist: 1.) There must be a
stigmatism of the oppressed group. 2.) There must be some sort of labeled
interaction between groups. 3.) There must be a hierarchy of discrimination.
(Kloosterman, Quispel 152) In the case of the American South we see evidence of
the Baldwin s Puritan dicta in each of theses points. Obviously the stigmatism of the
African race gathers its logic from the belief of African inferiority. However, of
importance at this time will be the second criterion referring to labeled interaction
between races. The labeled interaction that these authors are referring to of course
represents the South s
Humor In The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride captures the element of humor and witty comedy through
effective characterization to bring out the true version of the fantasy involving the
classic love stories in medieval kingdom setting. Firstly, from the onset, the film
opens with hilarious comments from the grandson as the grandfather prepares to
read the story. The grandson appears less enthusiastic to hear the narration, and
seeks to know what exactly the story will unfold by remarking that if the fairytale
will have scenes involving a lot of kissing. Falk in preemptive version alludes to the
fact that obviously the story has eminent kissing and bounty of screaming Eels
(Haase, 2007). This claim sets the tone for a true comedy delivered in quasi heroic
epic fantasy version where the episodes transcend viewers emotional expectations in
engaging humor scenes despite the enthralling swordfights and combats. In fact, The
Princess Bridenarration is the platform that the grandfather uses to... Show more

For example, Vizzini uses the word inconceivable to convince Inigo that nobody
saw them, or is aware of their whereabouts both in Florin and Guilder. Also, Vizzini
after cutting the rope to allegedly drop Dread Pirate Roberts down the slope, he uses
the word inconceivable to literally express dismay that the man never fell down cliff.
In response, Inigo urges Vizzini to stop using the word inconceivable because he

humorous because at the moment Inigo seem to have seen something behind the duo,
and Vizzini literally claims it would be some local fisherman ...in eel infested waters

exchange between Inigo and Vizzini, because their deluded journey to pursue Dread

Blue Whale Research Papers
The blue whale is the largest animal ever to have lived on Earth; it is larger than
any of the dinosaurs. The biggest recorded blue whale was a female in the
Antarctic Ocean that was 30.5 m long (more than 3.5 times the length of a double
decker bus and as long as a Boeing 737 plane) with an estimated weight of 144
tonnes (almost the same as 2,000 men). The tongue alone of a blue whalecan weigh as
much as an elephant and an entire football team could stand on it!
The heart of a blue whale is about the size of a VW Beetle car and weighs up to
450kg. The aorta, a major blood vessel for the heart, is big enough for a human child
to crawl through. More facts about blue whales.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is run by the United States of

and would lead the world to explore a vast new frontier that was not confined to the
atmosphere surrounding earth; however, while NASA was also the spearhead, they
exchanged many schematics and information to help other countries follow and enter

Symbols In The Pit And The Pendulum
In Edgar Allan Poe s The Pit and the Pendulum, there were setting and some
symbols. The theme would be that it is impossible to stop time and as the final
outcome of life would be death. To support this in the story, there are two main
symbols throughout which are the pit which symbolizes hell or death, and the
pendulum is another symbol that represent time. The setting sets up the story line
because depending where the story is set, the characters act a certain way. Like this
story is set up in an cell and the characteralways feels like he is gonna die from
anything that appears. First, the setting in the story impacts the character s action.
The story starts off with the narrator being sentenced to death. The narrator lost
consciousness and woke up back in a prison cell. Everytime he would fall asleep,
and wake up a loaf and a pitcher of water would be next to him. Since, he has been
in a unknown place and dark, he went to count his steps, and find how big the place
was. When he fell asleep again, he found the loaf and water, but this time the water
was drugged. Which is shown when he said A deep sleep fell upon me a sleep like
that of death (Poe 10). He knew that he was sentenced to death and kept thinking of
the moment when he would die and the situations,... Show more content on

The pendulum symbolizes time. When the narrator was looking around the cell and
saw a painting on the ceiling which was a ...painted figure of Time as he commonly

as we see on antique clocks (Poe 12). Which this talks about how the pendulum was
like a clock, but then, he saw the pendulum in motion. ...that its nether extremity was
formed of a crescent of glittering steel,... evidently as keen as that of a razor (Poe
13). With it representing time it also had a sharp end to it like a scythe. So the time
represented on the pendulum was the time of

The Rings of Saturn by W.G. Sebald
W.G. Sebald s novel The Rings of Saturn explores the relationship between toleration
and persecution through a first person narrative. The novel is preoccupied with loss
and the ways we have tried to come to terms with mortality. It is a meditation on the
destructive nature of history, the human lives affected, and the restorative power of
art. However, his work is not simply a record of these humaninduced catastrophes,
but also attempts to fashion new representational tools for the purpose of
acknowledging and coming to terms with the realities of modern human history.
Sebald s critcism tends to focus on the biographical and psychological backgrounds of
the writers he mentions. He draws heavily on the canon of twentieth century Marxist
thought, including works from Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer. His complex
thesis draws specifically on their work The Dialectic of Enlightenment. The
Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that spread through Europe during the
eighteenth century, which involved a radical change in the way that philosophers and
others understood the role of reason. It valued independent thought and promoted
reason to a higher status and for some came to replace faith. Intrinsic in Sebald s
work is the idea that the Enlightenment project was programmed by violent distrusts
of the non identical and a coercive desire to eliminate otherness. Specifically, Sebald
draws on Horkheimer and Adorno s critique of civilization articulated in The
Dialectic of the

Essays On Community Service. Why Is Community Service Important? Free Essay Example

  • 1. Essays On Community Service Crafting an essay on the theme of community service is a task that demands a delicate balance between personal reflection, societal analysis, and a genuine commitment to the betterment of one's surroundings. The difficulty lies not only in presenting a coherent and well-structured narrative but also in capturing the essence of the service experience and its impact on both the individual and the community. The challenge begins with the need to articulate personal experiences in a way that transcends mere description. Effectively conveying the transformative moments during community service requires a careful selection of words and a keen awareness of the emotions involved. Moreover, the writer must navigate the fine line between humility and self-promotion, ensuring that the focus remains on the service provided rather than the individual providing it. Moving beyond the personal sphere, the essay must delve into the broader implications of community service. This involves addressing systemic issues, analyzing the root causes of social problems, and proposing realistic solutions. This broader perspective requires a deep understanding of societal structures, which adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. • 2. The True Meaning of DanteВґs Inferno Essay Religious people always fear that they will not make it to Heaven or the place their God resides. The bible and other religious text give advice on how to avoid the pain of Hell. Dante Alighieri, a famous Italian poet, wrote about the physical description of Hell and the punishments each sinner would receive for their sins. Although The Divine Comedychronicles Dante s journey from the depths of Hellto the glory of Heaven it contains a deeper meaning. Dante reveals the true meaning of the Inferno through his leading motif, his interactions between the sinners, and the intertwining of other literary works into the Inferno. The repeated motif of the number three is used to represent the Holy Trinity and all things holy. The first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This indulgent type of behavior is seen in the sinners in the second through sixth circle of hell. The lion represents the sin of violence. Dante describes the lion as approaching with a ravenous hunger. Even the air was afraid of the lion. Dante choose the lion to represent violence because they are known as the kings of the jungle. Their powerful legs and long teeth allow them to quickly take down and kill their prey. Male lions contain pride that causes them to violently fight to remain the head of their pack. This violent behavior can be found in the seventh layer of hell where the tyrants, killers, and war hungry sinners reside. The leopard represents malice. Dante choose the leopard because they may be the smallest of the four big cats (tiger, lion, jaguar, and leopard) it still has the capability to take down prey up to twice its size. The leopard also is an equal opportunity killer. They will hunt down any prey for food. Some have even been known to attack people on occasion. This type of malicious behavior can be found on the 8th and 9th circles of hell. These two circles of hell contain the worst sinners known to man. Soon after his encounter with the three beasts Dante meets the spirit of his idol a poet named Virgil. It is h ere that we see another three. Virgil informs him that three women sent him to be Dante s guide. As his guide Virgil leads Dante through the nine circles of hell often with the words

In spite of its perceived flaws, it has increased the diversity at previously all white institutions of higher learning, such as the University of Texas at Austin, and that diversity has allowed friendships to be formed that otherwise would not have been, has allowed students to learn from professors they otherwise would never have and allowed professors to learn from students from a wide variety of
  • 4. Psychology Of Hate Crime Offenders Psychology of Hate Crime Offenders Melissa K. Mark University of Phoenix September 2015 Abstract This study investigated data regarding criminal offenses categorized as hate crimes that are motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender s bias against a race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity/national origin, or disability and are committed against persons, property, or society , (Hall 2013) with a speculative focus upon the psychological typology of the offender. Findings yield five major categories of the offender: thrill seeking, reactive/defensive, retaliatory, mission, and bias peripheral /mixed (Freilich 2013). The study yielded that individuals who commit hate crimes are not diagnostically mentally ill, but they do share characteristics of high levels of aggression and antisocial behavior, with childhood histories of parental or caretaker abuse, and use of violence to solve family problems. Findings are considered in terms of clinical intervention and risk assessment practices with hate crime offenders using a chi squared test for nominal (categorical) data to determine whether an association between two categorical variables in a sample is likely to reflect a real association between these two variables in a population. Hate crime generally refers to a criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender s bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation , (Hall, 2013).

In William Cullen Bryant s poem Thanatopsis , he does not mention eternal life or anything religious, but speaks about death. He tells his readers that death is a natural thing and they should not worry about it. William Cullen Bryant, in his poem Thanatopsis, portrays a comforting view of death. Throughout the poem, Bryant encourages his readers by explaining that in death they are not alone, that death, like life, is a natural process, and that they will be among some of the finest people who walked the earth. In addition to Bryant s portrayal of death as comforting, he also depicts it as a part of nature. Bryant explains that death, like life, is a part of nature, which was a loved and cherished aspect of the nineteenth century. In the period of Romanticism, nature was an important ideal; it was viewed as the source for everything. In Thanatopsis , Bryant uses nature as a comfort zone, saying that when one dies, they will become a part of nature. He says that the bodies will be used to nurture the earth. Bryant also mentions that we once were made as a part of nature and that people will die as a part of it as well. He states: ...and lost each human trace, surrending up thine individual being shalt thou go to mix forever with the elements. Bryant is saying that bodies will decay and eventually become one with the earth and nature. Along with becoming a part of nature, Bryant explains that the deceased people will be with some of the finest people who walked the earth. In order to make his readers feel ultimately comfortable, Bryant also says that when everyone dies, they will be with some of the finest people who walked the earth. By the expression finest people , Bryant means all the important figures and contributors in history. He says that people will be resting in the same place as these figures are: in the earth. He uses this to comfort his readers by saying that by dying, they

Essay The Whole Town s Sleeping and Terribly Strange Bed The Whole Town s Sleeping and Terribly Strange Bed In this essay I will be comparing two (2) short stories The Whole Town s sleeping by Ray Bradbury (1950) and A Terribly Strange Bed by Wilkie Collins (1856). Both stories are about fear and they make us feel fear or are supposed to; they make the reader scared or frightened. Both stories have the same purpose, which is so scare the reader. I am going to compare the way Ray Bradbury and Wilkie Collins create tension, suspense, mood and tone. In the first few lines of The Whole Town s Sleeping , the author describes the setting for the story, the little town was deep far away from everything, kept to itself by a river and a forest and a ravine , but before that he ... In A Terribly Strange Bed the city in which the story is set, is praised in the story, although not really mentioned much delightful city of our sojourn it doesn t seem to play a large part in the story and doesn t seem to be anything special. However in The Whole Town s sleeping , quite the opposite is the case, the first two paragraphs (half the page) are all about the setting and this is very important to the mood and tone of the story without it, you might not believe that a madman could run around killing people for months without being caught. Tension and Suspense are also very important in both stories. Tension is built up a little at the beginning of The Whole Town s sleeping , before the women find the body and its unexpected. The main excitement of the story is at the end, when Lavinia is running through the ravine. The tension is build up using sentences that get shorter and shorter, so that you read them faster and faster until the last sentences are only a couple of words long and the reader is getting really excited. Then when Lavinia reaches the house and locks the door, the reader feels the relief that the

This is what the Minotaur had to deal with his entire life. The Minotaur was the most unfortunate character in Greek mythology considering his appearance, early life, and adulthood. The Minotaurhad a terrible body appearance. He had the head and tail of a bull, but the body of a man. He was very large and considered a monster and an unnatural being because of how he looked (Karas). Many people also probably ran away from the Minotaur even only after getting a glimpse of him, not even getting to know him more. This could ve been a contributing factor as to why he started eating people later in life. The Minotaur also had the worst early life of any character in mythology. For one, his dad was a great white bull, and his mom, Pasiphae, was a normal human (Garcia). Many people wonder how his parents were two different creatures. Minos, the husband of Pasiphae, once had two brothers, and they all wanted to become King of Crete after their father passed away. He bragged that he had the favor of the gods and could ask for anything. He prayed to Poseidon, and he listened to Minos. Poseidon sent him a majestic white bull and told him to sacrifice it. Having received the bull, Minos demonstrated his power to his brothers and became king, but he did not sacrifice the white bull. Poseidon became angry, and cursed Pasiphae to fall in love with the bull.

Both of these men have had a great impact on us all. They are responsible for changes that have happened in times of segregation, to a more current time surrounded by IPhones. Steve Jobs and Fred Shuttlesworth are responsible for these changes that have created the world as we know it today. Although, both men were phenomenal at what they did, one will always be better. Fred Shuttlesworth fought for life changing outcomes. He was a blunt, driven, and confrontational man, and maybe the reason you are allowed to be where you are today. Steve Jobs and Fred Shuttlesworth were both hard working individuals, that made their dreams come to life. Although, they may be similar in a lot of ways, their impact on the world was very different. Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco, California. Steve Jobs showed an early interest in electronics and was mentored by a neighbor, who was an electronic hobbyist. In only the eighth grade, Steve was assembling a frequency counter and noticed that he was missing a crucial part. He then gave William Hewlett, co founder of Hewlett Packard, a call to let him know about this missing part. Mr. Hewlett sent Jobs the missing parts and then offered Steve Jobs a summer intern job. Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling demands diversity technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing. In this paper, error performance of MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG distribution forms a composite channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath as well as shadowing. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for MIMO systems using OSTBC and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects of fading severity by varying shape parameters are also shown by simulation and analytical results. Keywords Multiple input multiple output (MIMO), orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC), maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull gamma (WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER). Introduction In the present wireless systems, the demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high data rate and reliable communication requirement is increasing. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems are investigated to achieve these requirements. Also, diversity techniques are recommended to increase the reliability of system. Orthogonal space time block codes (OSTBCs) are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full transmit diversity while allowing a simple maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. This algorithm is based on linear processing of received signals [1 2]. MIMO system uses

James Montier argues that, while the algebra of DCF is simple, neat and compelling, the implementation becomes a minefield of problems . He cites, in particular, problems with estimating cash flows and estimating discount rates. Despite the issues, DCF analysis is very widely used and is perhaps the primary valuation tool amongst the financial analyst community. 2.2. Terminal Value Terminal Value, in simple term, is the value of a company with an infinite row of constant future cash flows. To arrive at a total company value, or enterprise value, we simply have to take the present value of the cash flows and the Terminal value, divide them by the discount rate and, finally, add up the results. If we are discounting free cash flow of the firm at the weighted average cost of capital, this would give the value of the firm, so it would be necessary to deduct net debt in order to arrive at the equity value. In this report, simply use FCF in the year of 2011 to compare the value of the firm to the stock price in the year end of 2011. 2.3. Weighted Average Cost of Capital The Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) is the discount rate used in a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis to present value projected free cash flows and terminal value.

It has since worked for the free movement of labor and capital, the abolition of trusts and cartels, and the development of joint and reciprocal policies on labor, social welfare, agriculture, transport, and foreign trade. These 11 nations will share a common currency, a single monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy. Currencies not only serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent way of expressing value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also they serve as a store of value, allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance and to store it for indefinite periods of time. There are two main reasons for this monetary union within the EEC (European Economic Community), one being a political reason and the other an economic reason. The political arguments are that a single currency will further unite the European alliance, which was formed after WWII, by forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This could perhaps eliminate nationalism and bring unity to this continent, which has been plagued by war twice in the last century. The Economic reasons for the euro project can be found in the relatively poor performance of the European economies over the last twenty years or more. Europe has, for a long time, suffered form

Equally dramatic was the effect of American crops, specifically Maize, on European and African societies. This crop revolutionized the diets of both plants and animals. Fertility Rate And Age Specific Fertility Rates This paper will explore the population phenomena pertaining to Singapore acquiring and sustaining low fertility, which has ultimately resulted in an ageing population. There is a multitude of interconnected factors that have contributed to Singapore s low fertility, and more importantly how this has reduced younger populations being added every year. However, this paper will focus on the premise that women s higher educational attainment has prompted a delay in marriage, and thus a delay in having babies. Therefore, this paper will evaluate statistics retrieved from the International Data Base from the Census Bureau Website that include the Total Fertility Rate and Age Specific Fertility Rate in Singapore over a span of twenty years.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Age Specific Fertility Rate is contingent on the age of a woman and places her in groups of women based on their age and then predicts how many babies each woman is expected to have over a period of time based on a specific population (Poston Bouvier, 2010, p. 45). In Singapore, the Age Specific Fertility Rate peaked for women between the ages 30 34 in 1997, 2007, and 2017. However, while there was a reduction in fertility rates for all ages across a women s life span from 1997 to 2007, there was a slight increase in fertility rates in 2017 for the age groups 30 34, 34 39, 40 44, and 45 49 (Refer to Graph 1). While elderly women tend to have fewer babies on average than younger ones, which is true for Singapore, the slight increase in childbearing in later years indicates changes in the structure of individual lives and the society as a whole. This data ultimately suggests that women in Singapore are waiting longer to get married and have children, which are pertinent causes of the country s low fertility and ageing population. While there are many societal and economic factors contributing to delays in marriage and reproduction, this paper will focus primarily on the increase of Singaporean women obtaining higher education and subsequently joining the workforce. • 22. How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the hippies . In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture. Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing, planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R.
  • 23. War Parenting Styles Essay It has been shown that kids that grow up where there is a war happening show negative effects afterwards, like depression or PTSD. However, some children are more vulnerable to these negative effects, and one of the main reasons has to do with their parents parenting style. The parenting style that is used is different throughout families; the three styles are authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive. Furthermore, another factor that can increase or decrease a child s vulnerability, is how much affection and support their parents show them. The type of parenting style in Israel can help children drastically after war to not show as many negative symptoms after the traumatic event. Our text did mention that overall authoritative parenting seems to show more positive effects. The reason is that authoritative parenting has high expectations of maturity but with parental warmth, while permissive parenting involves a lot of dialogue and parental warmth but few limits, and authoritarian parenting involves high demands and little parental warmth. Authoritative parenting is pretty much a mixture of authoritarian and permissive, and this seems to work best in several countries. I believe the reason authoritative parenting helps lower negative symptoms in children exposed to violence is because the mothers show plenty of love towards their children while also speaking to their children about their feelings. When children have been exposed to a traumatic event they need at least one person who they can rely on. Kids at such a young age might be confused or scared, it s important for them to have a mother or father who takes the time to speak to them about any doubts they might have. Additionally, it was shocking to find that how the fathers acted towards their children didn t matter. In the future it would be

Families dynamics are very different from how the Native Americans lived with their tribes and how people live now. Native Americans were very close with family and lived in a very tight community or also known as tribes. There are a couple things that Native Americans did because it was a culture thing that they had done for years. If you were a child, your father was a guest in your mother s home. Although strong bonds existed between wives and husbands, a woman s ties to her maternal kin her mother, her mother s brothers, her maternal cousins were generally stronger (Cherlin, pg.46). Unless there is a very strong reason to (like avoiding an accident, for example), it is important that one should never touch a child unless a child requests it. Avoid rushing to correct mistakes a child has committed. Children are learning to cope and function. They will persist and practice to their heart s content whatever skill they need to acquire, until they master it. If a child starts throwing things around and disrespecting the environment, by all means, stop her. Yet, explain why you had to stop her. Reason and listen to what the child may have to say. Maria Montessori said that a child s first tantrums are the first ills of her soul. There is always a reason for everything. Try to bring the reason to light. Punishing, isolating the child, etc., will only feed her pain, and burry deep those reasons she will learn to hide rather than communicate. 7. In response, Inigo urges Vizzini to stop using the word inconceivable because he seem not understand the contextual meaning of using the word. This is quite humorous because at the moment Inigo seem to have seen something behind the duo, and Vizzini literally claims it would be some local fisherman ...in eel infested waters (Elwes Layden, 2014). It valued independent thought and promoted reason to a higher status and for some came to replace faith. Intrinsic in Sebald s work is the idea that the Enlightenment project was programmed by violent distrusts of the non identical and a coercive desire to eliminate otherness. Specifically, Sebald draws on Horkheimer and Adorno s critique of civilization articulated in The Dialectic of the
