Essays On Betrayal
Writing an essay on the topic of betrayal can be quite challenging, as it requires delving into
complex emotions, ethical dilemmas, and intricate human relationships. Betrayal is a
multifaceted subject that can manifest in various forms, such as personal betrayals between
individuals, historical betrayals on a societal level, or even self-betrayal through actions
conflicting with one's values or beliefs.
Exploring this theme necessitates a deep understanding of psychology, sociology, history,
literature, and ethics. One must navigate through a myriad of examples from literature, history,
and personal experiences to illustrate the nuances of betrayal, its causes, consequences, and the
emotional aftermath it leaves in its wake. Analyzing the motivations behind betrayal, whether
driven by greed, revenge, loyalty conflicts, or other factors, adds another layer of complexity to
the essay.
Furthermore, addressing the ethical implications of betrayal requires critical reflection and
philosophical inquiry into concepts like trust, loyalty, integrity, and forgiveness. It involves
grappling with questions such as: When is betrayal justified? Can trust be rebuilt after betrayal?
How does betrayal affect individuals and societies on a broader scale?
Crafting an insightful and thought-provoking essay on betrayal demands meticulous research,
careful analysis, and a skillful synthesis of diverse perspectives. It challenges the writer to
navigate sensitive and sometimes uncomfortable territory while maintaining empathy and
understanding for all parties involved. Moreover, conveying the profound emotional impact of
betrayal through words necessitates a deft touch and a nuanced understanding of human
psychology and communication.
In conclusion, writing an essay on betrayal is no easy task; it requires intellectual rigor, emotional
intelligence, and a deep engagement with the complexities of human behavior and relationships.
However, by grappling with this challenging topic, one can gain valuable insights into the
intricacies of trust, loyalty, and morality that shape our lives.

Jim Brown Case
Jim Brown v. Electronic Arts(add to this)
In this case Plaintiff Jim Brown is regarded as one of the best professional football
players of all time, starring for the Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965 before his
eventual induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. Defendant Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA),
produces and sells video games, including the popular Madden NFL series of football
video games. The Madden NFL series allows users to control avatars representing
professional football players. Those avatars play football, the game allows users to

Association(NBA) filed a copyright infringement suit against owners of a website that
captures telecast of games and retransmits the telecast over the internet. The
defendant captured television broadcasts of NFL and NBA games from television
stations in New York and rebroadcasted them on the iCraveTV.com website. This
conduct threatened the value of the leagues intellectual property, specifically the
telecast licenses that the league have granted distrabuters. The court held that since
Congress has elected to grant certain exclusive rights to the owner of a copyright in a
protected work, it is virtually axiomatic that the public interest can only be served by
upholding copyright protections and, correspondingly, preventing the
misappropriation of the skills, creative energies and resources which are invested in
the protected work. The court ultimately granted the plaintiffs injunctive relief.
Similarly, in National Football League v. PrimeTime24, the court also granted the
NFL a permanent injunction that stopped the defendant from transmitting NFL
games to Canada.Again in Live National Motor Sports, Inc., v. Davis, the court found
that granting unauthorized access to the motorcycle racing via webcasts through

Freakonomics Essay
The Hidden Side of Everything
Steven D. Levitt is an award winning economist. Stephen J. Dubner is an award
winning writer. The two met in Chicago, and the result was Freakonomics, a book
that claims to explore the hidden side of everything, using real life examples such as
studies and polls conducted by Levitt to explain how economics is everywhere, that
economics is how the world really functions. Through everything from analyzing the
inner thought processes of real estate agents and crack dealers, to predicting the next
popular baby names, Levitt and Dubner guide readers to think differently, ask
questions, and to use Freakonomics in their daily lives.
Freakonomics is divided into six chapters, each containing studies and stories ... Show

For a person who believes that 1 newborn is worth 100 fetuses, those 1.5 million
abortions would translate dividing 1.5 million by 100 into the equivalent of a loss of
15,000 human lives. Fifteen thousand lives: that happens to be about the same
number of people who die in homicides in the United States every year. And it is far
more than the number of homicides eliminated each year due to legalized abortion
(Levitt 144). Levitt and Dubner s use of critical thinking and connection is evident
throughout their exploration of The hidden side of everything , and it guides the
reader to start thinking the same way.
But perhaps the most prevalent tone is the authors sense of conversationalism and
humor. Levitt and Dubner often use slang, including some unconventional writing
styles, and joke with the reader, all while maintaining focus and applying the facts to
the topic at hand. This usually shows up in small, yet noticeable ways. It is always
apparent that the authors are talking directly to the reader as if there is a
conversation going on between them. They will often say things like: But let s
consider... (144). Or when presenting new information: Now, here s what it cost...
(101). The most commonly used devices in Freakonomics; however, are questioning
the reader and the use of short, emphatic sentences. When used together, as they
sometimes are in this work, Levitt and Dubner can have a big impact on the reader s
thoughts. As they begin to discuss the
Egyptian Revolution Vs American Revolution
Revolution
In February 2011, when the Tahrir Square movement forced President Hosni
Mubarak to resign, Abdel Fattah El Sisi became leader and president. Sisi is soft
spoken and very different from the other leaders. Mubarak held his power for almost
30 years. He was overthrown by a revolution that lacked leadership and organizational
structure. In June 2012, Egypt s first democratic Presidential election was won by
Mohamed Morsi, a leader of the Brotherhood. Morsi didn t wait for anything, he
forced the retirement of the Minister of Defense, along with the leaders of the
Navy, the Air Defense, and the Air Force. This move was praised by young
Egyptian advocates or opponents, who saw it as a sign that Morsi was determined to

This relates to the theme because the people of Egypt got rid of President Hosni
Mubarak and eventually wanted to overthrow Mohamed Morsi. That is exactly what
revolution is. It s the overthrowing of an established government such as their
president.
The Egyptian revolution is similar to the American revolution because the thirteen
colonies revolted against Great Britain in 1763 lasting until 1785 just like Egypt
revolted against their presidents and governments. The American Revolution ended in
favor of the thirteen colonies because they got their independence from Great Britain
like they wanted by becoming the United States of America. The Egypt revolution
worked at first when they overthrew President Mubarak but not President Morsi.
I think Egypt did the right thing by revolting against President Morsi. He was only
doing things to benefit himself. It sounded like he was trying to become the one
and only leader of Egypt when he issued a Presidential ruling that gave him all
temporary powers beyond the reach of any court or system. That s not fair. If I was
in Egypt s situation I would definitely try to rebel against him too just like the state
institutions such as the police did. I would do everything in my power to get him out
of the presidential role. That is what I think about the Egypt
Flash Of Genius Relates To Intellectual Property
The movie Flash of Genius relates to Intellectual Property in that the intermittent
windshield wipers were Robert Kearns own intellectual property. The movie has
strong ties to patent laws of the United States as well as the 1941 Supreme Court
case of Cuno Engineering v. Automatic Devices Corp which requires that a new
device must reveal the flash of creative genius, not merely the skill of the calling
(JUSTIA).The movie relates to this because Ford infringed on Kearns patent (that
was still under protection) and Kearns claimed to have had a flash of creative
genius (why can t a windshield wiper blink like a human eye?). Because of this flash
of genius, he came up with the idea for the intermittent wiper and it was not merely

HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP
HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP
It takes great courage to say, I am a homosexual. It needs even greater humbleness to
put up with the statement: What did you say? You are a homosexual. The complexity
of the homosexual behavior generates an obvious question in my mind as to why
society looks down upon deviant sexual orientations like homosexuality. Is it because
the homosexuals behave in a way which is not normal, or which is not practiced by
the bulk ? Or is it because the bulk tries to ignore the harsh trutha truth which attacks
his conscience generated out of his socialization that the bulk of such bulk does have
deviant sexual tendencies at some moment of time, which even gets manifested? The

It also serves to contest the pervasive heterosexist attitudes that dismiss gay/lesbian
/bisexual women and men as the embodied imperfections of Westernisation.
In India there exists sufficient documentary, archaeological and anthropological
evidences to suggest that same sex ties especially among men, were not only
culturally, but dignified and revered by attributing similar traits to religious deities.
The homoerotic carvings among the erotic carvings on the Hindu temples of
Khajuraho in Konark and Puri; and on the great Buddhist monument at Borabordur in
Indonesia are well known. The Kamasutra mentions a number of homosexual
positions in chapter 8th of part III. Indian kings also tended to have a number of boys
in their harems.
Nevertheless, today the most shameful fact is that there are many incidents for the
harassment of homosexuals. These incidents of harassment of the homosexual
community and social discrimination in India remain widespread despite years of
campaigning by sexually rights groups in the country. The biggest hurdle faced by
the campaign to fight discrimination based on sexual orientation in India is section
377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalizes unnatural sex. The law, a remnant
of Victorian morality, was made in 1860, when any sexual activity that was not meant
for procreation was considered a sin.
It is the time for us to change our perceptions and visualizations vis Г vis same sex
marriages. We must accept that the
My Ferrari Essay
It was half past seven in the morning and I had a busy day ahead of me. I got into my
Ferrari 360 spyder; put my bag on the passenger seat.
I started the engine, put it into gear and made my way to the airport, with the roaring
sound of the Ferrari behind me.
I had to go pretty fast because I had to be at the airport before my flight left. As I
approached the entrance to the airport, I made my way to the runway.
There was a barrier across it so that it would be blocked of for other customers. He
asked me why I was their. I showed him a pass which granted me permission to enter
the run way.

I had time for a quick look out of the window, and it look like to me that we were
about to land in the airport. I buckled myself the second and last time. I was right we

When the jet came to a steady motion and then eventually stopped it was time for
me to head into the city of New York. I headed for the exit of the airport, and there

Analysis Of The Texas Legislature
The first Texas Legislature met in 1846 and has only had a few changes. It is a
bicameral legislature that has two chambers which include the Texas Senate, with 31
senators and the House of Representatives, with 151 House members. The
responsibility of the legislators includes promoting their constituent s concerns and
issues by addressing them during the sessions.
The Texas Legislaturemeets once every two years regular sessions of 140 days.
However, there are times when it is necessary for the governor to call special
sessions that are limited to 30 days of which he sets the agenda. There is not a limit
to the number of special sessions that can be called. These special sessions are

Former governor Rick Perry once said When you have a full time legislature, they
just feel pretty inclined to be doing something. So they are going to dream up new
laws, new regulations and new statutes and generally all of those cost money.
(Champagne) Government does not need to be involved in everything, but it is
necessary to try and keep order and to protect the citizens. An additional argument
against a full time legislation is the belief that it would increase corruption due to
the fact that the legislators would have more time together to deliberate and give
in to the temptation of unethical practices. (Champagne 217) My opinion is that a
full time legislature would offer more time and money for the job to be completed
thoroughly. Instead of scheming, they would be able to research and discuss the
bills as they are being submitted. It seems that corruption is caused for two reasons.
The first being that currently there is simply not enough time to tackle all the
issues, so when one is approached with being persuaded to support a certain bill,
they act on it when they might not have even known that it existed. Secondly, the
minimal amount of pay for this job could play a role in one being tempted to these
corrupt practices for money or to enjoy things that they would otherwise not have
access to. Whether the legislature is currently corrupted or would be so if it becomes
a full time, it is difficult to deny the fact that the legislature is not an
The Space Of Space Travel
OK, Houston, we Ve had a problem, A famous quote that came from a famous
event in time. On April 13, 1970, one event changed a space expedition to space in
an instant. Space Travel seems difficult already, but when you add an explosion in
the mix, it becomes a whole new game. Apollo 13 one of the Apollo missions that
will not be forgotten. Three American astronauts hoping for a great trip to space
until their oxygen tank exploded and their spacecraft was ruined. Thankfully
everything turned out fine in the end. This all led to some serious problems and a

At about nine o clock this explosion caused Oxygen tank number 2 to explode. this
explosion lead to some major damage to the spacecraft and the astronauts chances
and landing on the moon safely. Lovell looked out the left hand window and saw
that the spacecraft was letting out a gas and so the mission was aborted. The
Command Module was losing pressure so they moved to the Landing Module
which could be used as a lifeboat and had oxygen to survive. There was a problem
however the Landing Module was only made to hold two people and support them
for forty five hours, but the astronauts were in a group of three and needed this to last
about ninety hours. Another problem of the Landing Module was the astronauts had
to have one fifth water rations and eventually had to put up with temperature close to
freezing. Removal of carbon dioxide was also a problem, because the square lithium
hydroxide canisters from the CM(Command module) were not compatible with the
round openings in the LM(Landing Module) environmental system. Mission control
built an impromptu adapter out of materials known to be onboard, and the crew
successfully copied their model. Navigation was a problem that could be solved only
by the astronauts workings by hand to find the any directions home because the
Landing Module did not have a navigation system to get home. They finally swung
around the moon and took some pictures and
Essay On The Original Abbey
The original abbey was a Chapter House, built in 1160. It was used by the canons
as the place for business meetings and had stalls situated around the walls for
seating; the canons would have met here in the morning, held services, be assigned
tasks and be disciplined. Architecturally, it is Norman with the curved arches and is
one of the only surviving original parts of the Abbey that would have included
different rooms for the canons which governed their daily lives and a church.
However, the eastern wall was rebuilt after the 1831 Bristol Riots, hence the modern
windows. These windows now list the Abbots of the original monastery and the
Deans of the Cathedral. The Chapter house is now a much more communal area and

Additionally, the chapel was not originally attached to the main building however
it was eventually joined to the North Transept. The chapel contains lots of artwork,
including the medieval tomb of Lady Margret Mortimer and Lord Maurice
Berkeley, as well as the iconography of Saint Augustine of Hippo and local Saint
Jordan. It is clear from the brickwork that the Elder Lady Chapel has been developed
over time, the ceiling is noticeably different to the walls, which also differ from each
other.
Built in 1298 by Abbot Knowle was The East End ( Eastern Lady Chapel). It
continues with the gothic architecture, very popular at the time and first introduced
to the Abbey by Abbot David. The East End has large pointed windows which let
light fill the space and is England s largest hall church this means all the ceilings are
the same height, usually only the aisle ceilings are the same. There are also painted
ceilings and painted designs, suggesting the Abbey was wealthy at the time.
At the heart of the east end is the Choir, it is one of the most important and original
works of the medieval era in Europe. It is at the center of the cathedral and was
rebuilt by Abbot Knowle in the 14th Century, the choir stalls were later added by
Abbot Elyot in the 16th Century. The current stalls date back to the 19th century but
incorporate some of the 16th Century carvings, including the original misericords.

Coming Of Age Stories From China Essay
Coming of Age Stories The Cultural Revolution could be defined as one of the
disasters in China. In that period, most of the students were forced to become sent
down youth and lost chances to be educated at school. However, Chinese people
explored some important spirits in this period. Both Wang and Zheng experienced the
transition period in China and they left valuable gifts to the next generation in China.
When they recalled their sent down youth experience, both of them found the positive
point inside this dark period. In the period of Cultural Revolution, the sent down
youth movement made most people considers the meaning of life. According to
Zheng s article, Images Memories Lives, In this former sent down youth are
presented as cheerful youth men and women, physical strong and wealth, their labor
rights and easy to shoulder. At that time, youth started to think about if they joined
the sent down youth movement, they would gain the most benefit because they
became society constructors. During the movement, they were not only make money
for their families, but also contributed to the development of socialism in
countryside. To be equal was one of the most important points in socialism and sent
down youth movement made whole society approached to this main point. Based on
Zheng s memoir, They also take solace in the spiritual support and companionship
they offered one another in the countryside and seek to keep these relationships alive.

Retirement Retirement seems to be one of the most often overlooked areas of
people s future plan. Simply because it seems so far away, it is an area that is
subject to procrastination. People are expected to live longer now than ever before,
this is another reason why young adults and teenagers are not worried about saving
for their retirement. The baby boom generation, the seventy seven million people
born between 1943 and 1960, face an entirely different retirement plan. As they
began to retire, people are starting to think that there will be no money left and this
will turn into a crisis. What will happen when seventy seven million baby boomers

Descartes Wax Argument
Logan, 1 The motive behind Descartes wax argument is to provide distinct
knowledge of what I is, regarding the mind, and what bodily things, Whose images
are framed by thought, and which the senses themselves imagine are much more
distinctly known than this mysterious I which does not fall within the imagination.
Within the wax argument, Descartes shows that bodily things are not perceived
through our imagination or senses, but within our intellect. Descartes introduces the
wax argument when he tries to clarify what this thing that he thinks or I is. With
Descartes trying to clarify what exactly that thing is, he comes up with a conclusion.
Descartes comes to a conclusion that he is not only something that both understands...

Descartes isn t aware of these qualities regarding the wax through his imagination,
since the piece of wax can have an infinite number of different shapes. He knows
these qualities of the wax through intellect, Our perception of the wax is neither a
seeing, nor a touching, nor an imagining...but the mind alone (pg. 68). Descartes
mental perception regarding the wax can be confused, or clear. His mental
perception of the wax can be confusing, in the same way if he allowed himself to
be led by bother his imagination and senses. His mental perception can be clear,
like when he applies careful scrutiny to his perceptions. Descartes uses this
argument to reflect on how easy it is to be deceived regarding his mental
perception of confused or clear. We can say something along the lines like, I see
the wax, but when we say that, we refer to the wax as the way our intellect
perceives it, rather than mentioning its shape or color. For example, when we see
people walking down a sidewalk, all we re really seeing are people in hats and
coats. But our intellect, not our eyes, judges that what we see are people, not a robot
under all the clothing. This analysis accepts Descartes view on page 68, What we
thought we had seen with our eyes, we actually grasped solely with the faculty of
judgment, which is our
Substitution And Elimination Reaction Lab Report
Substitution and Elimination Reactions Substitution reactions replace a functional
group with a new group. These reactions compete with elimination reactions in which
a group is eliminated and a ПЂ (pi) bond is formed. Substitution reactions occur
when a nucleophile is added to an electrophile/substrate. Elimination reactions occur
when a base is added to an electrophile/substrate. The electrophile must contain a
leaving group to be considered a substrate. Alkyl Halides Alkyl Halides are the
common substrate used in substitution and elimination reactions. Alkyl Halides are
halogen containing alkane compounds. These compounds are commonly used as the
electrophile in substitution reactions. Naming Alkyl Halides is similar to naming
alkanes. Halogen substituents are named just like alkane substituents, for example if
there is a chlorine attached to an ethane the chlorine substituent will be named using
the word chloro . The other halogens are named using the words flouro , bromo , and
iodo respectively. These possible substituents are listed alphabetically along with the
alkane substituents. When dealing with alkyl halides it is important to note that the
carbons attached to the halogens and the carbons attached to those carbons are
involved in the reaction process, therefore we designate these carbons with special
symbols to differentiate them from the rest of the molecule. The carbon atom that is
bonded to the halogen is designated the О± (alpha) carbon. The carbons that are

According to its WTO commitments it has to be noted that China may further
reduce tariff levels to about 10% by end of 2005. Foreign Direct Investment The
Chinese government s recognition of its two major attractions of low cost labour and
an enormous domestic market of 1.2 billion consumers has further propelled its
initiatives toward economic reform such as opening up of markets and reducing tariff
levels. As a result, foreign investment has intensified. In the 1980s, foreign investors
were restricted to export oriented joint ventures with Chinese firms. In the early

How Does Catullus Poem 64
Poem 64 is one of Catullus most ambitious and complex works. The mini epic
comprises of 408 lines, making it the longest poem of all Catullus works. The poem is
written in the dactylic hexameter, the traditional meter of epic poetry. The poem is
further told through ekphrasis an ancient doctrine denoting any poetic or rhetorical
description, including descriptions of landscape, buildings, battles, and storms.
The focal point of this report will be on the content of poem 64 and how it, reflects
Catullus himself and his relationship with Lesbia. Further, I will examine the
mirroring of characters and emotions and ambiguity of the poem as it stands in
relation to his other works.
The poem as already stated is a mini epic and is often described ... Show more content

However, immediately after this joyful expression of love and marriage Catullus
introduces Ariadne.
Namque fluentisono prospectans litore Diae

Indomitos in corde gerens Ariadna furores.
Our first introduction of Ariadne is of her abandonment by Theseus. Ariadne looks on
as Theseus abandons her on the island bearing wild furies in the heart.
Catullus uses the female narrative express his feelings of grief due to his
abandonment by Lesbia. Theseus careless forgetfulness, which in the legend causes
his father s mistaken suicide, parallels the fecklessness of Lesbia.
Surrounding this, there is the perfect wedding of Peleus and Thetis represents a kind
of high point in the age of heroes. Achilles, destined to be born of this match, will
distinguish himself chiefly by his bloodthirstiness (as we learn in the marriage hymn

Botti Performance Review
On February 10, 2017, I attended Chris Botti s nearly sold out show at the Hilbert
Circle Theater. This was the most brilliant performance I have ever seen. While I
was not familiar with Botti before the show, I had been asked on a date by a guy
from church who was a fan of his work. After having dinner at Oceanaire, we arrived
at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, where women were dressed from casual attire with
black pants to full length ball gowns with mink fur coats, while the men wore suits
or sports coats with dress pants. Our seats were located in the middle of the theatre
on the edge of the balcony in front of the stage. Botti created an intimate atmosphere

Each member of Botti s band performed a cadenza near the end of the show. The
other musicians in Botti s band included Geoffrey Keezer on piano, Richie Goods

at the mezzopiano dynamic level. Botti played at the piannissmo dynamic level in
The Look of Love but in some of his other songs he would begin in a soft piano and
crescendo to a mezzo forte with some subito changes from mezzo piano to forte.
While there was contrast due to the nature of jazz, most of the harmonies were
consonant and the melodies were conjunct and pleasant to hear. There was never a
moment in the performance where I felt the need for tension to be resolved, it was
generally smooth. Overall, the wind instruments played included a bass clarinet,
clarinets, an English horn, flutes, a piccolo, oboes, and bassoons. Among the strings
heard were violins, violas, cellos, a harp, and double basses. Besides the trumpet, the
concert included other brass instruments such as French horns, trombones, and a

Capital lease
Under IFRS, lease classification depends on whether substantially all of the risks
and rewards incidental to ownership of a leased asset have been transferred from
the lessor to the lessee. Under EAS, the leased asset is recognized in the lessor
books and depreciated, and the lessee recognizes lease payments in the income
statement in the period in which it is paid.
Profit sharing to employees and board of directors
Under IFRS, profit sharing to employees and board of directors is recognized when

EAS, profit sharing to employees and board of directors is recognized as a dividend

Stereotypes Of Women Essay
Sports magazines across the world are known for featuring buff, strong and sexy male
athletes on their covers, where they re usually wearing their uniform, looking heroic,
muscular and powerful. Women also occasionally grace the sporting magazine
covers, wearing scantily clad bikinis, pouting and looking beautiful with immaculate
hair and make up. The women are often models, sometimes pictured with male
athletes, but nearly always are depicted in sexually objectifying ways. This brings
attention to the body type and attractiveness, rather than the qualities that define them
as an athlete. Objectification is used in this context to describe forms of marketing,

The pay difference between male and female athletes is astronomical even though
they are both working equally as hard for their achievements. This is evident in
professional basketball in the USA. For example, Lebron James a player in the
NBA is paid $33.3 million in 2017 (Gaines, 2018) not including any sponsorship
deals whereas in the WNBA (Womans professional basketball league) all 157
players make a combined earning of $11.7 million dollars. (Berri, 2017). At the end
of the day, it is not the female athletes that are going to make a sports magazine
popular or profitable. These magazines have a certain target audience or
readership, and in this case it is the males that are predominately purchasing them.
The old age adage that Sex Sells in our male orientated world, has unfortunately
been used for decades to exploit women in order to appeal to the male s sexuality.
We live in a media saturated world and this type of advertising, where women are
objectified and sexualised, sells and makes the magazines huge

If you re serious about managing your debris, dump the dumpster in favor of a
debris pile that s fenced off with rolled wire or plastic mesh. Then use a hauler who
will manually or mechanically pick up the debris from the fenced area. Having the
pile in clear view eliminates costly containers, and decreases the chance that your
crew will throw away useful materials. Although this option won t work everywhere,
cleanup services have been cost effective in areas with high disposal costs and
established markets for common construction waste materials.
Hold subs accountable
When you buy materials for subcontractors you give them no incentive to use the
materials wisely. To remedy this, make subcontractors responsible for ordering and
buying their own materials. Making subs responsible for their own waste disposal
gives them further incentive to use only what they need.
Reuse
Some materials can be reused on site. Large pieces of foam insulation can be laid

Comparing Yelp, Tripadvisor And Netflix Essay
I choose to compare Yelp, TripAdvisor and Netflix. They all offer service on line.
The similar big data challenges for them is that in face of mountains of data, they
changed their data strategy and adjust to the market quickly.
Yelp, launched in 2004, has evolved so much from identifying great restaurants in
urban areas to providing user generated recommendations on a variety of merchants
across more than 30 countries, having it service mainly in the form of mobile device.
Since January 2013, yelp has experienced high traffic because of huge amounts of
users logging in activities, which needs big data infrastructure and data mining. In
2015, site s star ratings system is being supplemented with objective healthcare data
with the corporation with ProPublica. Yelp now uses Amazon Redshift to manage
petabyte scale data warehouse, uses MapReduce extensively and builds its
infrastructure on Amazon cloud, and uses Amazon Simple Storage Service to store
daily logs and photos of businesses.
TripAdvisor, found in 2000, is a travel website that offers reviews of travel related
content such as hotels, restaurants, and attractions. TripAdvisor is using several Big
Data techniques to provide such service, ranging from large scale real time analytics,
predictive analytics, data mining and statistical modelling. It has also developed a
custom Big Data platform, technologies including Hadoop, SQL Server, Hive,
Machine Learning, Redshift, R and Python.

Sleep Is The Unsung Hero Of Our Lives
Sleep is the unsung hero of our lives. We simply cannot function without it. We
make it extremely difficult on ourselves when we decide to play on our electronic
devices rather than sleep. The blue light emitted from the device tricks our brains
into thinking its daytime making it harder to fall asleep. Lack of sleep decreases
your ability to learn, focus, have a positive attitude and it puts you at risk for
diseases such as depression and A.D.D. The problem presented was that if
electronics are used for an hour before bed will it affect your sleep patterns. The
hypothesis was if electronics are used for an hour before bed then the person s
sleep pattern will change because the blue light emitted from an electronic device
alters the amount of melatonin in your body which allows your body to know
when to fall asleep. The hypothesis was correct. Those who didn t use electronics
an hour before bed got at least one more hour of sleep than those who did.
Introduction In our lives we come in contact with all different types of stress.
Teens have homework, sports and friends to keep them busy while adults have
their jobs, bills and many other stressors. What if you could reduce some of that
stress? One of the best ways to help cease the stress is sleep. Our body needs sleep
to function. Without it we cannot focus in class, we do our work responsibilities

Schindler s List by Steven Spielberg
Good morning/afternoon, today I will be analysing a scene from Steven Spielberg
s master piece film Schindler s List. Movie extraordinaire Steven Spielberg, who is
a world renown director of countless memorable films, show cases his incredible
skill and compelling power towards the audience, without using any dialogue in the
most pivotal character development scene in Schindler s List. Referred too, by the
audience as The girl in red .
Before I delve in to the depths of this scene and why it is so significant to the film, it
is important I outline the story of Schindler s list. This film is all about Oskar
Schindler; a successful business man, womanizer and member of the Nazi party. A
true story, about a man making a living using Jewish workers in factories, producing
anything from pots and pans too brass tank ammunition shells, during the height of
WW2. Throughout the start of the film Schindler s humanity is questionable
leaving to audience to ponder whether or not he is a hero or just another Nazi using
the Jewish people as an easy and free work force. This all changes about a third of
the way through the film, when the audience witnesses our questionable hero s
fundamental change of heart for his Jewish working force and as discovered later on
in the film, he spends more money than he can make trying to save them.
What the audience witnesses, is of course the scene I am analysing. During a horse
ride with Schindler s partner, he stops on top of a hill looking down on a
Taking a Look at the Ipad Mini
Tablet Computer IPAD MINI Tablet PC is another mobile PC for mobile users. The
tablet form factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a
smart phone. It is highly compact and easy to carry. Tablet PC mainly uses the screen
for both input and output. Additional features may include speakers, microphones
and cameras. It is a wireless personal computerin the form of a notebook and that
allows a user to hand write notes with a stylus or digital pen on a touch screen.
Most tablets are slightly smaller and weigh less than the average laptop. While
some tablets include fold out keyboards, others, such as the Apple I Pad, only offer
touch screen input. Many tablets now support multi touch input, which allows you
to perform gestures with multiple fingers, such as pinching an image to zoom out,
or spreading your fingers apart to zoom in. Tablets without physical keyboards
allow you to enter text using a pop up keyboard that appears on the screen. Since
tablets do not use a traditional keyboard and mouse as their primary forms of input,
the user interface of a tablet is different than a typical laptop. For example, instead
of double clicking to open a program, most applications open with a single tap.
Instead of clicking on a scroll bar to scroll through a window, most tablet applications
allow you to swipe up and down anywhere within a window to scroll through the
content. Since tablet PCs provide a different interface than traditional computers, they
American School System
The American school system is absolutely broken. A product of terrible teachers
and administrators, horrible districts, and our country s inability to fix the inherent
flaws of the system. We sit back as the youth of our proud nation spend their days
in the factory we call school. Factory because schools are not designed to teach our
children. These factories throw knowledge at the kids left and right. There are so
many bits and pieces of information being hurled around at once. With the vast
expanse of knowledge entering the minds of young people during the day, one
would assume the child would rise to become educated. But the problem is,
schooling by itself creates no intelligent people. Schools are designed to produce

But something we do not think about is merely pure luck. We look at smart and
successful individuals and attribute their success to themselves. It is the fantasy
like concept of the American self made man. This dreamlike concept is completely
shattered by the idea that successful individual are, above all else, lucky. If we look
at Nobel prize winners and their backgrounds, we see that many of them are from
areas with good schools. These communities with lots of support, minimal drug use,
and basically zero murders, nurture great minds. That is the luck of the intellectual
at play. Take into account this hypothetical example. Two boys are born in the same
time periods with the same drive to succeed. Both boys go about schooling with the
same initial enthusiasm. The difference between them is that one lives in a clean
district with a great school. This child never stops performing. Partially because of
great teachers, and partially because of the support from home. This child is not
influenced by all of the harmful things of inner city environments. But the other boy
is. The other boy was unlucky enough to be born into a family who does not love
him. This boy lives in poverty, has seen his mother doing bad things, and the schools
barely teach him a single thing. Frustrated with school the boy

Urban Studies Course Analysis
What I have learned from this course was very interesting and important. The word
urban means the relationship or characteristic of a city or town. My course has talked
about a lot of things about urban cities, planning of the city, race, ethnicity, housing,
education, crime and global development and much more. Urban planning is a
technical method that use the land, safety of the residents, and use of the
environment. The urban environment includes air, water, and transportation. Urban
planning is important and crucial to any urban citybecause it is the guide that establish
urbanization. Race, ethnicity, and gender have played strong roll in establish social
diversity in the community. Through history, the strong and prosper cities has

A New Kind of Science
Professor Neil Leach
October 29, 2016 Chapters 11 and 12 (pages 637 to 844)
In this book, Stephen Wolfram develops A New Kind of Science that allows
progress to be made in cases where traditional science cannot analyze complex
behaviors. In his proposal for this new kind of science one of the things he addresses
is the notion of computation, where computation is the evolution of a system. In this
book, Wolfram has mentioned and referred to systems such as cellular automataas a
simple computer program , but his overall goal is to show these systems in terms of
the computations that can perform complex shapes with a simple set of rules. In
other words, these systems can be viewed as performing a computation that
determines what its future behavior will be. The interesting thing is that cellular
automata has terms of traditional mathematical notions to describe certain
computations. Stephen reintroduces these mathematical notions by replacing them
with squares (cells) that are either black or white, and when grouped, these cells
create a block. Once multiple blocks are created, they are described as rules that
enhances a command. For example, the rule 94 highlights even numbers. Rule 62
corresponds to multiples of 3, rule 190 to multiples of 4 and rule 129 highlights
powers of 2.
Now, there are computations that are more complex that do not correspond to any
simple description found in traditional
Comparing Symbols and Symbolism in Blue Hotel, Black

Color Symbolism in Blue Hotel, Black Cat, Night, Alfred Prufrock, Red Wheelbarrow
Symbolism of colors is evident in much of literature. The Blue Hotel by Stephen
Crane, The Black Cat of Edgar Allan Poe, Night by William Blake, The Love Song of
J. Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Eliot, and The Red Wheelbarrowby William Carlos
Williams encompass examples of color symbolism from both the prose and the
poetry of literature. When drawing from various modes of psychology, interpretations
of various colors, with emphasis to dream psychology, an analysis of the colors
themselves and then their applications to literature can be readily addressed.
Colour is one of the areas in daily life in which symbolism is most readily ... Show

Blood is the energy coursing through the body and is related to blushing. Red also
represents violent emotional arousal. Red is the color of war, the Roman god
Mars, and of the greatest of the Roman gods, Jupiter. Red is the color of
masculinity and activity. To the Chinese, red represents good fortune. To the
Christian, it denotes Christ s passion. (Fontana 66) Investigating more specifically
dream psychology, red may symbolize sexuality, passion, anger, revolution or
danger. Red being the color of blood, it is the symbol of life, which consequently is
why Hindu and Chinese brides wear red. But, blood may also represent injury or
death. (Ackroyd 253)
Blue is the color of intellect, peace and contemplation. It represents water and
serenity, and symbolizes the sky and infinity. To the Christian, blue is the color of the
Virgin as Queen of Heaven, and denotes faith, compassion and the water used in
baptism. The ancient Greeks and Romans attributed the color blue to Venus, the
goddess of love. (Fontana 66) In reference to dreams, blue represents the collective
unconscious. Alternatively, blue may represent the power of the conscious mind,
while dark blue is associated with depression. (Ackroyd 94)
Combining the power and authority of red with the sanctity and wisdom of blue,
violet s focus is amidst the most mystic of the colors. As a focus for meditation it can

Compare And Contrast The Diving Bell And The Butterfly
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was written but Jean Dominique Bauby, who
following a stroke that resulted in locked in syndrome. He was then able to write a
book, but he had a nurse write it while he used a tactic of blinking for which letter
to use. Sadly, he died in 1997 and a movie was made after his popular memoir The
Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Mathieu Amalric, who was able to capture the essence
of who Bauby was post stroke made the movie exceptional, but not whole. After
experiencing both forms of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, I feel like the book
version portrayed the locked in syndrome more effectively than the film because it
s coming from a man who was truly locked in, giving the readers the ability to
visualize what could be happening, while accounting for actual events that took
place. When the 43 year old man finds out he is only a mind who is able to blink
he immediately thinks of his two children and his father. Who in turns is pretty
much locked in too, while he is only confined to his apartment, Jean was taking
care of him. In the book he specifically says We are both locked in in our own way,
me in my carcass, and my father on his fourth floor apartment (Bauby). There is
more meaning behind it because it is coming from a man who can truly only think
and blink, he is watching his body rot away like an old apple and he isn t even able
to care for his father. His life pre stroke was glamorous he had kids and a wife whom
he was separated from,
Ghost Real Research Paper
The team of investigators is finished recording for today. They begin reviewing the

to possess objects and haunt people. Their existence is very controversial because
there is little evidence in order to prove they are real. Ghosts are real because there
is photographic evidence, auditory evidence, and there is no way to prove that they
are not real. There is photographic evidence for the existence of ghosts. Paranormal
investigators have uncovered old photos, that could not have been edited at the time

impossible to edit the pictures. They also claim that Audio recordings are fake and

is that if there is no way to prove the existence of ghosts, then why try to prove their
existence if they cannot be proven. If there is no way to prove that ghosts are real,
then it is impossible to know if they are not
Use Of Visual Schedules For Children With Autism Case
Study
The first intervention planned for April is an individual visual schedule. For April s
visual schedule, the therapist will find images that reflect common activities in her
routine. This may include morning routines activities, bathroom, food, play,
transportation, and other typical daily tasks. Once these are printed, they can be
laminated and arranged on any surface with Velcro to reflect her schedule. Items on
the schedule may also be removed or put in a finished section once completed to
cue the next activity. This type of schedule is appropriate for April due to her lack
of verbal speech and cognitive impairment. This schedule will provide easy to

used as well. The cost of this timer is twenty dollars and can be carried with her
throughout the day. Instead of saying in five minutes we will switch activities, the
visual cues will provide her with an easier to understand concept of time.
Intervention #3 Transition object The next intervention for planned for April is a
transition object. An appropriate transition object for April is a stress ball. A
stress ball will provide her with calming proprioceptive input. This is an object that
is small and not distracting that can be carried from one activity to the next. A
stress ball for April would cost about three dollars. She could utilize the stress ball
during a portion of a less desirable task, or go get the stress ball when it is time to
transition to another activity or environment. It will provide a sense of predictability
and comfort to her transition routine. Intervention #4 movement break The fourth
intervention for April is a sensory movement break as part of her sensory diet. Since
April is sensation seeking for vestibular and proprioceptive input, a movement break
before or during some transitions will help her to stay focused and organized
throughout the day. Some sensory
The Importance Of Policing In Israel
Lessons from empirical research on policing in Israel: policing terrorism and police
community relationships by Perry, S., Jonathan Zamir, T. (2014), was an article set
out to review empirical research on police community relations in Israel regarding
policing terrorism. The goal of the study was to find insights to improve the impact
counter terrorism has on the community in Israeland other democratic nations that
face similar issues when actively using counter terrorism tactics. Much of the data
from the articles used in this review were gathered from the Israel National Police
(INP), which is the only police force in Israel, which may weaken the statistics
gathered due to government agencies not having accurate data. This is an... Show

In Israel, the Arabs were the ones, especially unhappy with the police due to the
hostile and militaristic treatment from the police. The article outlines different ways
to possibly mitigate these issues. First, the police should focus on fairness when
treating citizens, as well as focus on traditional police, not just counter terrorism.
There was very little this article cited on the effectiveness of specific strategies and
empirical studies in Israel have been lacking on this subject, this is due to the
sensitive nature of the information regarding counter terrorism.
When comparing the legitimacy framework for Israel and other western nations,
including the United States they all share similar important factors for police
legitimacy including procedural justice and fairness of the process. In Israel the
amount of people who see the process as fair, the amount of neutrality and
transparency, the respect police give, and the ability to participate have been lacking.
This is largely due to the increased amount of counter terrorism in recent time,
especially during the Intifada and other uprisings. The amount of community policing
in Israel was found to be weak. The Israeli police should consider increasing the
implementation of community policing to improve community trust and support.
Research has shown that the relations between the police and Israeli Arabs can be
increased as well as
How Did Jimmy Carter Protect The Environment
Mr. Jimmy Carter and the Environment
James Earl Carter Jr. was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. His father
was a peanut farmer and his mother was a registered nurse. During his childhood,
he kept out of trouble and focused on his studies. He was the first person from his
father s family to graduate high school. He went on to study engineering in college
before joining the Naval ROTC program. Eventually, Mr. Carter joined the navy and
went on to be the 39th president of the United States. Despite an unsuccessful, one
term presidency, Mr. Carter accomplished and oversaw quite a few environmental
laws and policies. Those of which included, The Endangered American Wilderness
Act, the National Energy Act, and the Superfund legislation. The Endangered
American Wilderness Act, today, protects America s wilderness areas. Mr. Carter was
concerned about the population growth spilling over into the nation s wilderness
population. At the time, strip mining and logging had resulted in already endangered
wilderness areas. The act was introduced, in large part, for the generations to come, so
that they may enjoy America s wilderness. Another important act, which went in
under Mr. Carter s term, was the National Energy Act. During this time, America

landfill for hazardous waste. Over time the hazardous waste leached into the
surrounding soil and city water, causing birth defects, death of pets, and injuries to
those in contact with the soil and water. With that, the Superfund legislation was
created. Mr. Carter asked Congress for legislation that would establish a $1.6 billion
fund to enable the Government to respond to the Love Canal and similar hazards, and
that the financial burden should fall on those chiefly responsible for generating toxic
Woman Hollering Creek By Sandra Cisneros And
Glengarry...
Whether in the past or present, this is a country driven by two things:
entertainment and capital. Women seem to be most attracted to the entertainment
aspect, as demonstrated in Sandra Cisneros s short story Woman Hollering Creek
through the telenovelas. Men on the other hand are attracted to the business world
and the capital that comes from pure competition and winning, the more the better.
This is on display in David Mamet s play Glengarry Glen Ross. Every vice has a
consequence however, as Cisneros and Mamet both prove, when people are
motivated in the wrong way, they are doomed to fail. In Cisneros s story, Cleofilas
is drawn to telenovelas which provide images of how life should be. She sees what
she believes to be successful women, but the more she tries to emulate them the
worse her life seems to be. Likewise, in Mamet s play, the salesmen are all driven to
win at any cost. This leads to betrayal, rifts in relationships, and total failure in the
end because the high level capitalist nature has become unattainable for most of the
men.

The Effects of Smoking Bans on Victims of Exposure to Second Hand Smoke
Exposure to second hand smoke, which for the purposes of this report will be
designated SHS, poses extremely detrimental health risks for any and all individuals
who consider themselves non smokers, especially young children and pregnant
women. SHS is estimated to contribute to heart attacks in nonsmokers and causes
nearly 53,800 deaths in the United States alone on an annual basis.1 According to the
United States Surgeon General s report from 2010, tobacco use remains the single
largest preventable cause of death and disease in this country, causing approximately
443,000 adult deaths from smoking related illnesses each year.2 Additionally, smoking

now attempting to curb the use of tobacco products, many for the first time in their
histories. All studies have pointed to the extreme dangers SHS provides for
pregnant women and children, especially adolescents. In a report published by the
Center for Global Tobacco Control, it was demonstrated that efforts to curtail indoor
exposure to SHS was working. The results of the study showed that the proportion
of US middle and high school students who were exposed to indoor SHS actually
declined from 65.5% in 2000 to 40.5% in 2009, with significant

As Liane Hornsey the HR director at Google said, HR here at Google is genuinely
different from anywhere else, (Vorster, 2007). Google looks for innovative people
when hiring. They want to do things differently and creatively. To achieve that they
have to be immensely careful as they don t necessarily look for youth but they look
for vibrancy. Google has a policy of a dress down day when all the employees wear
casual clothes. This system makes all the managers more approachable as all the

Leaders and managers at Google seek to ensure that new hire feels special from the

Sociocultural Food Taboos Under The Larger Umbrella...
Preface In this paper, I aim to document various sociocultural food taboos under the
larger umbrella concept of the sacred and profane, a sociologically ubiquitous
dichotomy found worldwide. I will do so by introducing various cultural examples
of food taboos and explanative theories of food avoidance practices. Ideally, this
paper will introduce the reader with the complex social pre and proscriptions of
the sacred and profane and the affect of which on food consumption practices.
Food taboo is present in all societies in one form or another. The extent of food
taboos vary between cultures and societies, yet restriction of food resources is
ever present in all social systems, even when the taboo goes unnoticed or is
accepted under the guise of normative behavior of a particular social group.
Supporting this point is the simple comparison of all available food resources to
consumed food resources. In no society is the complete available food resources
used as food, or perceived as fit for consumption. The food perceived as fit for
consumption is considered sacred, nourishing, and healthy, while food resources
considered unfit are those tethered to concepts of the profane, unclean, and unhealthy,
which ultimately harm the physical and spiritual body. Food taboo acts as a method
to ensure or regain both spiritual and physical health and is ubiquitously concerned
with the maintenance of wellbeing. Animistic societies are imbedded in a universe of
spirits, which when
The Great Gatsby Impact On Society
The roaring twenties was a time of economic growth and cultural prosperity. The
roaring twenties left an impact on authors similar to F. Scott Fitzgerald to write
novels based on this era. The novel The Great Gatsby was based on the era of 1920s
presenting several themes influenced by the change in culture and economy. The
revolving theme presented in the Great Gatsbyis the idea of old money vs new
money. The effect of new money coming into power made an impact on society and
this was showcased in the novel. After World War I, the United States
began to see a
growth in the economy, this was the beginning of the Roaring 20s. During this time,
money was easier to obtain and more began to carouse around. The prohibition law
was implemented during this time and allowed criminals to make money off selling
illegal alcohol. The increase in carousing and partying, increased the change in culture
and technology that surely paved the way for society today.... Show more content on

at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (Slayton 54). While at Michigan, she
taught with William Bolcom, Michael Daugherty and Bright Sheng. In 2007, Susan
Botti left her position at Michigan to move back to New York City, and began

Essays On Betrayal

  • 1. Essays On Betrayal Writing an essay on the topic of betrayal can be quite challenging, as it requires delving into complex emotions, ethical dilemmas, and intricate human relationships. Betrayal is a multifaceted subject that can manifest in various forms, such as personal betrayals between individuals, historical betrayals on a societal level, or even self-betrayal through actions conflicting with one's values or beliefs. Exploring this theme necessitates a deep understanding of psychology, sociology, history, literature, and ethics. One must navigate through a myriad of examples from literature, history, and personal experiences to illustrate the nuances of betrayal, its causes, consequences, and the emotional aftermath it leaves in its wake. Analyzing the motivations behind betrayal, whether driven by greed, revenge, loyalty conflicts, or other factors, adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Furthermore, addressing the ethical implications of betrayal requires critical reflection and philosophical inquiry into concepts like trust, loyalty, integrity, and forgiveness. It involves grappling with questions such as: When is betrayal justified? Can trust be rebuilt after betrayal? How does betrayal affect individuals and societies on a broader scale? Crafting an insightful and thought-provoking essay on betrayal demands meticulous research, careful analysis, and a skillful synthesis of diverse perspectives. It challenges the writer to navigate sensitive and sometimes uncomfortable territory while maintaining empathy and understanding for all parties involved. Moreover, conveying the profound emotional impact of betrayal through words necessitates a deft touch and a nuanced understanding of human psychology and communication. In conclusion, writing an essay on betrayal is no easy task; it requires intellectual rigor, emotional intelligence, and a deep engagement with the complexities of human behavior and relationships. However, by grappling with this challenging topic, one can gain valuable insights into the intricacies of trust, loyalty, and morality that shape our lives. • 2. Jim Brown Case Jim Brown v. Electronic Arts(add to this) In this case Plaintiff Jim Brown is regarded as one of the best professional football players of all time, starring for the Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965 before his eventual induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. Defendant Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), produces and sells video games, including the popular Madden NFL series of football video games. The Madden NFL series allows users to control avatars representing professional football players. Those avatars play football, the game allows users to participate in other aspects of a simulated NFL teams by mirroring real players, even including the their names, jersey numbers, physical attributes, and physical skills. TvRadioNow Corp. the National Football League(NFL) and the National Basketball Association(NBA) filed a copyright infringement suit against owners of a website that captures telecast of games and retransmits the telecast over the internet. The defendant captured television broadcasts of NFL and NBA games from television stations in New York and rebroadcasted them on the iCraveTV.com website. This conduct threatened the value of the leagues intellectual property, specifically the telecast licenses that the league have granted distrabuters. The court held that since Congress has elected to grant certain exclusive rights to the owner of a copyright in a protected work, it is virtually axiomatic that the public interest can only be served by upholding copyright protections and, correspondingly, preventing the misappropriation of the skills, creative energies and resources which are invested in the protected work. The court ultimately granted the plaintiffs injunctive relief. Similarly, in National Football League v. PrimeTime24, the court also granted the NFL a permanent injunction that stopped the defendant from transmitting NFL games to Canada.Again in Live National Motor Sports, Inc., v. Davis, the court found that granting unauthorized access to the motorcycle racing via webcasts through defndants website was sufficient to consititute a preliminary
  • 3. Freakonomics Essay The Hidden Side of Everything Steven D. Levitt is an award winning economist. Stephen J. Dubner is an award winning writer. The two met in Chicago, and the result was Freakonomics, a book that claims to explore the hidden side of everything, using real life examples such as studies and polls conducted by Levitt to explain how economics is everywhere, that economics is how the world really functions. Through everything from analyzing the inner thought processes of real estate agents and crack dealers, to predicting the next popular baby names, Levitt and Dubner guide readers to think differently, ask questions, and to use Freakonomics in their daily lives. Freakonomics is divided into six chapters, each containing studies and stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a person who believes that 1 newborn is worth 100 fetuses, those 1.5 million abortions would translate dividing 1.5 million by 100 into the equivalent of a loss of 15,000 human lives. Fifteen thousand lives: that happens to be about the same number of people who die in homicides in the United States every year. And it is far more than the number of homicides eliminated each year due to legalized abortion (Levitt 144). Levitt and Dubner s use of critical thinking and connection is evident throughout their exploration of The hidden side of everything , and it guides the reader to start thinking the same way. But perhaps the most prevalent tone is the authors sense of conversationalism and humor. Levitt and Dubner often use slang, including some unconventional writing styles, and joke with the reader, all while maintaining focus and applying the facts to the topic at hand. This usually shows up in small, yet noticeable ways. It is always apparent that the authors are talking directly to the reader as if there is a conversation going on between them. They will often say things like: But let s consider... (144). Or when presenting new information: Now, here s what it cost... (101). The most commonly used devices in Freakonomics; however, are questioning the reader and the use of short, emphatic sentences. When used together, as they sometimes are in this work, Levitt and Dubner can have a big impact on the reader s thoughts. As they begin to discuss the
  • 4. Egyptian Revolution Vs American Revolution Revolution In February 2011, when the Tahrir Square movement forced President Hosni Mubarak to resign, Abdel Fattah El Sisi became leader and president. Sisi is soft spoken and very different from the other leaders. Mubarak held his power for almost 30 years. He was overthrown by a revolution that lacked leadership and organizational structure. In June 2012, Egypt s first democratic Presidential election was won by Mohamed Morsi, a leader of the Brotherhood. Morsi didn t wait for anything, he forced the retirement of the Minister of Defense, along with the leaders of the Navy, the Air Defense, and the Air Force. This move was praised by young Egyptian advocates or opponents, who saw it as a sign that Morsi was determined to reduce the Army s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This relates to the theme because the people of Egypt got rid of President Hosni Mubarak and eventually wanted to overthrow Mohamed Morsi. That is exactly what revolution is. It s the overthrowing of an established government such as their president. The Egyptian revolution is similar to the American revolution because the thirteen colonies revolted against Great Britain in 1763 lasting until 1785 just like Egypt revolted against their presidents and governments. The American Revolution ended in favor of the thirteen colonies because they got their independence from Great Britain like they wanted by becoming the United States of America. The Egypt revolution worked at first when they overthrew President Mubarak but not President Morsi. I think Egypt did the right thing by revolting against President Morsi. He was only doing things to benefit himself. It sounded like he was trying to become the one and only leader of Egypt when he issued a Presidential ruling that gave him all temporary powers beyond the reach of any court or system. That s not fair. If I was in Egypt s situation I would definitely try to rebel against him too just like the state institutions such as the police did. I would do everything in my power to get him out of the presidential role. That is what I think about the Egypt
  • 5. Flash Of Genius Relates To Intellectual Property The movie Flash of Genius relates to Intellectual Property in that the intermittent windshield wipers were Robert Kearns own intellectual property. The movie has strong ties to patent laws of the United States as well as the 1941 Supreme Court case of Cuno Engineering v. Automatic Devices Corp which requires that a new device must reveal the flash of creative genius, not merely the skill of the calling (JUSTIA).The movie relates to this because Ford infringed on Kearns patent (that was still under protection) and Kearns claimed to have had a flash of creative genius (why can t a windshield wiper blink like a human eye?). Because of this flash of genius, he came up with the idea for the intermittent wiper and it was not merely created as
  • 6. HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIP It takes great courage to say, I am a homosexual. It needs even greater humbleness to put up with the statement: What did you say? You are a homosexual. The complexity of the homosexual behavior generates an obvious question in my mind as to why society looks down upon deviant sexual orientations like homosexuality. Is it because the homosexuals behave in a way which is not normal, or which is not practiced by the bulk ? Or is it because the bulk tries to ignore the harsh trutha truth which attacks his conscience generated out of his socialization that the bulk of such bulk does have deviant sexual tendencies at some moment of time, which even gets manifested? The society at large impute taboos and stigmatizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also serves to contest the pervasive heterosexist attitudes that dismiss gay/lesbian /bisexual women and men as the embodied imperfections of Westernisation. In India there exists sufficient documentary, archaeological and anthropological evidences to suggest that same sex ties especially among men, were not only culturally, but dignified and revered by attributing similar traits to religious deities. The homoerotic carvings among the erotic carvings on the Hindu temples of Khajuraho in Konark and Puri; and on the great Buddhist monument at Borabordur in Indonesia are well known. The Kamasutra mentions a number of homosexual positions in chapter 8th of part III. Indian kings also tended to have a number of boys in their harems. Nevertheless, today the most shameful fact is that there are many incidents for the harassment of homosexuals. These incidents of harassment of the homosexual community and social discrimination in India remain widespread despite years of campaigning by sexually rights groups in the country. The biggest hurdle faced by the campaign to fight discrimination based on sexual orientation in India is section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalizes unnatural sex. The law, a remnant of Victorian morality, was made in 1860, when any sexual activity that was not meant for procreation was considered a sin. It is the time for us to change our perceptions and visualizations vis Г vis same sex marriages. We must accept that the
  • 7. My Ferrari Essay It was half past seven in the morning and I had a busy day ahead of me. I got into my Ferrari 360 spyder; put my bag on the passenger seat. I started the engine, put it into gear and made my way to the airport, with the roaring sound of the Ferrari behind me. I had to go pretty fast because I had to be at the airport before my flight left. As I approached the entrance to the airport, I made my way to the runway. There was a barrier across it so that it would be blocked of for other customers. He asked me why I was their. I showed him a pass which granted me permission to enter the run way. He kindly pushed a button in his small control box, which would lift the barrier. As I passed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The air stewardess came with a trolley of refreshments. I asked for a chicken and salad sandwich, bottle of water and an ice cream bun with a cherry on top. As I munched away on my snack, before I knew it the jet rocketed through the sky, it soared over very quickly over the North Atlantic Ocean. I was heading to USA (United States of America). I was approaching New York Cityinternational airport. The captain made a second announcement; he said that we would be landing in the airport shortly. As I through my litter in the bin of my jet and then made my way back to my seat. The jet made a sudden jerk to the right, and it made me fall in my seat. I had time for a quick look out of the window, and it look like to me that we were about to land in the airport. I buckled myself the second and last time. I was right we landed on the runway of the airport with the wheels bumping off the runway to the air, which happened a couple of times. When the jet came to a steady motion and then eventually stopped it was time for me to head into the city of New York. I headed for the exit of the airport, and there were flocks of taxis. It was evening in New York, Which was lucky for me as I had no other way of getting around New York. I asked the driver if he could take me to the centre city of New York, 41st (street) where there were lots of
  • 8. Analysis Of The Texas Legislature The first Texas Legislature met in 1846 and has only had a few changes. It is a bicameral legislature that has two chambers which include the Texas Senate, with 31 senators and the House of Representatives, with 151 House members. The responsibility of the legislators includes promoting their constituent s concerns and issues by addressing them during the sessions. The Texas Legislaturemeets once every two years regular sessions of 140 days. However, there are times when it is necessary for the governor to call special sessions that are limited to 30 days of which he sets the agenda. There is not a limit to the number of special sessions that can be called. These special sessions are exercised to complete items that were not taken care of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Former governor Rick Perry once said When you have a full time legislature, they just feel pretty inclined to be doing something. So they are going to dream up new laws, new regulations and new statutes and generally all of those cost money. (Champagne) Government does not need to be involved in everything, but it is necessary to try and keep order and to protect the citizens. An additional argument against a full time legislation is the belief that it would increase corruption due to the fact that the legislators would have more time together to deliberate and give in to the temptation of unethical practices. (Champagne 217) My opinion is that a full time legislature would offer more time and money for the job to be completed thoroughly. Instead of scheming, they would be able to research and discuss the bills as they are being submitted. It seems that corruption is caused for two reasons. The first being that currently there is simply not enough time to tackle all the issues, so when one is approached with being persuaded to support a certain bill, they act on it when they might not have even known that it existed. Secondly, the minimal amount of pay for this job could play a role in one being tempted to these corrupt practices for money or to enjoy things that they would otherwise not have access to. Whether the legislature is currently corrupted or would be so if it becomes a full time, it is difficult to deny the fact that the legislature is not an
  • 9. The Space Of Space Travel OK, Houston, we Ve had a problem, A famous quote that came from a famous event in time. On April 13, 1970, one event changed a space expedition to space in an instant. Space Travel seems difficult already, but when you add an explosion in the mix, it becomes a whole new game. Apollo 13 one of the Apollo missions that will not be forgotten. Three American astronauts hoping for a great trip to space until their oxygen tank exploded and their spacecraft was ruined. Thankfully everything turned out fine in the end. This all led to some serious problems and a four day exploration to get back to earth safely. At about nine o clock this explosion caused Oxygen tank number 2 to explode. this explosion lead to some major damage to the spacecraft and the astronauts chances and landing on the moon safely. Lovell looked out the left hand window and saw that the spacecraft was letting out a gas and so the mission was aborted. The Command Module was losing pressure so they moved to the Landing Module which could be used as a lifeboat and had oxygen to survive. There was a problem however the Landing Module was only made to hold two people and support them for forty five hours, but the astronauts were in a group of three and needed this to last about ninety hours. Another problem of the Landing Module was the astronauts had to have one fifth water rations and eventually had to put up with temperature close to freezing. Removal of carbon dioxide was also a problem, because the square lithium hydroxide canisters from the CM(Command module) were not compatible with the round openings in the LM(Landing Module) environmental system. Mission control built an impromptu adapter out of materials known to be onboard, and the crew successfully copied their model. Navigation was a problem that could be solved only by the astronauts workings by hand to find the any directions home because the Landing Module did not have a navigation system to get home. They finally swung around the moon and took some pictures and
  • 10. Essay On The Original Abbey The original abbey was a Chapter House, built in 1160. It was used by the canons as the place for business meetings and had stalls situated around the walls for seating; the canons would have met here in the morning, held services, be assigned tasks and be disciplined. Architecturally, it is Norman with the curved arches and is one of the only surviving original parts of the Abbey that would have included different rooms for the canons which governed their daily lives and a church. However, the eastern wall was rebuilt after the 1831 Bristol Riots, hence the modern windows. These windows now list the Abbots of the original monastery and the Deans of the Cathedral. Additionally, the chapel was not originally attached to the main building however it was eventually joined to the North Transept. The chapel contains lots of artwork, including the medieval tomb of Lady Margret Mortimer and Lord Maurice Berkeley, as well as the iconography of Saint Augustine of Hippo and local Saint Jordan. It is clear from the brickwork that the Elder Lady Chapel has been developed over time, the ceiling is noticeably different to the walls, which also differ from each other. Built in 1298 by Abbot Knowle was The East End ( Eastern Lady Chapel). It continues with the gothic architecture, very popular at the time and first introduced to the Abbey by Abbot David. The East End has large pointed windows which let light fill the space and is England s largest hall church this means all the ceilings are the same height, usually only the aisle ceilings are the same. There are also painted ceilings and painted designs, suggesting the Abbey was wealthy at the time. At the heart of the east end is the Choir, it is one of the most important and original works of the medieval era in Europe. It is at the center of the cathedral and was rebuilt by Abbot Knowle in the 14th Century, the choir stalls were later added by Abbot Elyot in the 16th Century. The current stalls date back to the 19th century but incorporate some of the 16th Century carvings, including the original misericords. these are located under the choir seats and were originally
  • 11. Coming Of Age Stories From China Essay Coming of Age Stories The Cultural Revolution could be defined as one of the disasters in China. In that period, most of the students were forced to become sent down youth and lost chances to be educated at school. However, Chinese people explored some important spirits in this period. Both Wang and Zheng experienced the transition period in China and they left valuable gifts to the next generation in China. When they recalled their sent down youth experience, both of them found the positive point inside this dark period. In the period of Cultural Revolution, the sent down youth movement made most people considers the meaning of life. According to Zheng s article, Images Memories Lives, In this former sent down youth are presented as cheerful youth men and women, physical strong and wealth, their labor rights and easy to shoulder. • 12. Retirement Planning Retirement By: tena E mail: tena2001@aol.com Retirement Retirement seems to be one of the most often overlooked areas of people s future plan. Simply because it seems so far away, it is an area that is subject to procrastination. People are expected to live longer now than ever before, this is another reason why young adults and teenagers are not worried about saving for their retirement. Descartes Wax Argument Logan, 1 The motive behind Descartes wax argument is to provide distinct knowledge of what I is, regarding the mind, and what bodily things, Whose images are framed by thought, and which the senses themselves imagine are much more distinctly known than this mysterious I which does not fall within the imagination. Within the wax argument, Descartes shows that bodily things are not perceived through our imagination or senses, but within our intellect. Descartes introduces the wax argument when he tries to clarify what this thing that he thinks or I is. With Descartes trying to clarify what exactly that thing is, he comes up with a conclusion. Descartes isn t aware of these qualities regarding the wax through his imagination, since the piece of wax can have an infinite number of different shapes. He knows these qualities of the wax through intellect, Our perception of the wax is neither a seeing, nor a touching, nor an imagining...but the mind alone (pg. 68). Descartes mental perception regarding the wax can be confused, or clear. His mental perception of the wax can be confusing, in the same way if he allowed himself to be led by bother his imagination and senses. His mental perception can be clear, like when he applies careful scrutiny to his perceptions. Descartes uses this argument to reflect on how easy it is to be deceived regarding his mental perception of confused or clear. We can say something along the lines like, I see the wax, but when we say that, we refer to the wax as the way our intellect perceives it, rather than mentioning its shape or color. For example, when we see people walking down a sidewalk, all we re really seeing are people in hats and coats. But our intellect, not our eyes, judges that what we see are people, not a robot under all the clothing. This analysis accepts Descartes view on page 68, What we thought we had seen with our eyes, we actually grasped solely with the faculty of judgment, which is our
  • 14. Substitution And Elimination Reaction Lab Report Substitution and Elimination Reactions Substitution reactions replace a functional group with a new group. These reactions compete with elimination reactions in which a group is eliminated and a ПЂ (pi) bond is formed. Substitution reactions occur when a nucleophile is added to an electrophile/substrate. Elimination reactions occur when a base is added to an electrophile/substrate. The electrophile must contain a leaving group to be considered a substrate. Alkyl Halides Alkyl Halides are the common substrate used in substitution and elimination reactions. Alkyl Halides are halogen containing alkane compounds. These compounds are commonly used as the electrophile in substitution reactions. Naming Alkyl Halides is similar to naming alkanes. Halogen substituents are named just like alkane substituents, for example if there is a chlorine attached to an ethane the chlorine substituent will be named using the word chloro . The other halogens are named using the words flouro , bromo , and iodo respectively. These possible substituents are listed alphabetically along with the alkane substituents. When dealing with alkyl halides it is important to note that the carbons attached to the halogens and the carbons attached to those carbons are involved in the reaction process, therefore we designate these carbons with special symbols to differentiate them from the rest of the molecule. The carbon atom that is bonded to the halogen is designated the О± (alpha) carbon. The carbons that are

Movie extraordinaire Steven Spielberg, who is a world renown director of countless memorable films, show cases his incredible skill and compelling power towards the audience, without using any dialogue in the most pivotal character development scene in Schindler s List. Referred too, by the audience as The girl in red . Before I delve in to the depths of this scene and why it is so significant to the film, it is important I outline the story of Schindler s list. This film is all about Oskar Schindler; a successful business man, womanizer and member of the Nazi party. A true story, about a man making a living using Jewish workers in factories, producing anything from pots and pans too brass tank ammunition shells, during the height of WW2. Throughout the start of the film Schindler s humanity is questionable leaving to audience to ponder whether or not he is a hero or just another Nazi using the Jewish people as an easy and free work force. This all changes about a third of the way through the film, when the audience witnesses our questionable hero s fundamental change of heart for his Jewish working force and as discovered later on in the film, he spends more money than he can make trying to save them. What the audience witnesses, is of course the scene I am analysing. During a horse ride with Schindler s partner, he stops on top of a hill looking down on a

The tablet form factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smart phone. It is highly compact and easy to carry. Tablet PC mainly uses the screen for both input and output. Additional features may include speakers, microphones and cameras. It is a wireless personal computerin the form of a notebook and that allows a user to hand write notes with a stylus or digital pen on a touch screen. Most tablets are slightly smaller and weigh less than the average laptop. While some tablets include fold out keyboards, others, such as the Apple I Pad, only offer touch screen input. Many tablets now support multi touch input, which allows you to perform gestures with multiple fingers, such as pinching an image to zoom out, or spreading your fingers apart to zoom in. Tablets without physical keyboards allow you to enter text using a pop up keyboard that appears on the screen. Since tablets do not use a traditional keyboard and mouse as their primary forms of input, the user interface of a tablet is different than a typical laptop. For example, instead of double clicking to open a program, most applications open with a single tap. Instead of clicking on a scroll bar to scroll through a window, most tablet applications allow you to swipe up and down anywhere within a window to scroll through the content. Since tablet PCs provide a different interface than traditional computers, they

A product of terrible teachers and administrators, horrible districts, and our country s inability to fix the inherent flaws of the system. We sit back as the youth of our proud nation spend their days in the factory we call school. Factory because schools are not designed to teach our children. These factories throw knowledge at the kids left and right. There are so many bits and pieces of information being hurled around at once. The other boy was unlucky enough to be born into a family who does not love him. This boy lives in poverty, has seen his mother doing bad things, and the schools barely teach him a single thing. In his proposal for this new kind of science one of the things he addresses is the notion of computation, where computation is the evolution of a system. In this book, Wolfram has mentioned and referred to systems such as cellular automataas a simple computer program , but his overall goal is to show these systems in terms of the computations that can perform complex shapes with a simple set of rules. In other words, these systems can be viewed as performing a computation that determines what its future behavior will be. The interesting thing is that cellular automata has terms of traditional mathematical notions to describe certain computations. Stephen reintroduces these mathematical notions by replacing them with squares (cells) that are either black or white, and when grouped, these cells create a block. Once multiple blocks are created, they are described as rules that enhances a command. For example, the rule 94 highlights even numbers. Rule 62 corresponds to multiples of 3, rule 190 to multiples of 4 and rule 129 highlights powers of 2. Now, there are computations that are more complex that do not correspond to any simple description found in traditional

Preface In this paper, I aim to document various sociocultural food taboos under the larger umbrella concept of the sacred and profane, a sociologically ubiquitous dichotomy found worldwide. I will do so by introducing various cultural examples of food taboos and explanative theories of food avoidance practices. Ideally, this paper will introduce the reader with the complex social pre and proscriptions of the sacred and profane and the affect of which on food consumption practices. Food taboo is present in all societies in one form or another. The extent of food taboos vary between cultures and societies, yet restriction of food resources is ever present in all social systems, even when the taboo goes unnoticed or is accepted under the guise of normative behavior of a particular social group. Supporting this point is the simple comparison of all available food resources to consumed food resources. In no society is the complete available food resources used as food, or perceived as fit for consumption. The food perceived as fit for consumption is considered sacred, nourishing, and healthy, while food resources considered unfit are those tethered to concepts of the profane, unclean, and unhealthy, which ultimately harm the physical and spiritual body. Food taboo acts as a method to ensure or regain both spiritual and physical health and is ubiquitously concerned with the maintenance of wellbeing. Animistic societies are imbedded in a universe of spirits, which when
