Essays About Depression
Writing an essay on the topic of depression is a challenging endeavor, to say the least. It requires
not only a deep understanding of the subject matter but also a delicate balance of empathy and
objectivity. To effectively convey the complexities of depression in an essay, one must navigate
through a multitude of sensitive topics including its causes, symptoms, societal implications, and
potential treatments.
Moreover, tackling such a topic demands a high level of emotional resilience as it involves
delving into the personal struggles and experiences of individuals affected by depression.
Crafting an essay that captures the essence of depression while remaining respectful and
insightful is no small feat.
Furthermore, the task of researching and gathering relevant information on depression can be
daunting. The abundance of literature and studies on the topic presents a challenge in discerning
credible sources and synthesizing the information into a coherent narrative.
Additionally, there's the inherent responsibility that comes with writing about mental health
issues. It's crucial to approach the topic with sensitivity and awareness of the stigma surrounding
depression, avoiding any language or portrayal that may perpetuate misconceptions or further
stigmatization.
In conclusion, writing an essay on depression is a complex and demanding process that requires a
deep understanding of the subject matter, emotional resilience, and a sensitive approach to the
topic. It's a task that demands careful research, thoughtful reflection, and a commitment to
portraying the issue with accuracy and compassion.

1.1discussion of the role of strategic marketing in an organisation
Strategic Marketing is a process of creating superior customer value resulting in the
creation of superior shareholder value and a sustainable competitive advantage Diasz
(2012). A marketing strategy consists of an internally integrated but externally
focused set of choices about how the organization addresses its customers in the
context of a competitive environment. A strategy has five elements: it deals with
where the organization plans to be active; how it will get there; how it will succeed
in the marketplace; what the speed and sequence of moves will be; and how the
organization will obtain

Quiet Hero: Secrets from my Father s Past, written by Rita Cosby, is a story of
war, a story of courage, and a story of a daughter finally getting to know her father.
In this book, Rita speaks about her father s childhood as well as her own; the
difficulties she faced growing up with a strict father whom she felt she barely knew.
Rita grew up in Greenwich Connecticut, with her Danish mother and her Polish
father; a father she had a distant and unemotional relationship with. Growing up Rita
knew very little about her father. She only knew that he had left Poland after WWII.

This book touched me profoundly. I grew up without my father and met him when
I was 20 years old. Meeting him was very challenging for me because I was
consumed with so much anger and I blamed him for not being there for me. In
reading this book I am able to realize that we do not always get to choose the path
we walk down and sometimes life s circumstances shape the people we become, for
better or worse. This book has made me want to give my own father a chance to
explain to me what his life has been like, so that I might have a better
understanding of who he is. As I continue my journey through school, I am better
able to assess individuals and situations and have a level of empathy without being
judgmental. As children we often feel like we know who our parents are but there
are so many unanswered questions and hidden lives that it makes it difficult for
children to relate to their parents. Each of our paths has impacted us in both
negative or positive ways and being able to understand that this affects the
decisions that we make can make unpleasant situations a bit easier to digest. Seeing
how Rita felt closer to her father as an adult once she got to know him, makes me
feel like there is still hope for my father and I. If Rita s father would have received
help for the trauma he had gone through I believe he could have been a better father
to Rita while she was growing up. Untreated trauma can affect a family on so many
The Use Of Motor Vehicles And Their Ownership, Social
And...
It s a fact, commercial vehicle use around the world is expanding, both in the
developed and developing world. It is debatable whether the use, and more
specifically ownership, of a passenger vehicle is a need, or a want, but before we
consider the implications surrounding this debate, we need to discuss what these
terms mean. Needs are things such as food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep, and
comfort that are necessary for human survival. Wants are things that may increase a
person s feelings of self worth, self fulfillment, independence, and personal potential.
Note that defining what is a need, and what is a want is not always black and white,
there are many things, such as passenger vehicles, that may fall somewhere in
between these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also found that fuel consumption and emissions were 20 45% higher during
rush hour traffic than in steady traffic conditions. Stopped traffic, especially during
commute times, is not only a frustration to drivers, but to business and corporations
as well. Each year, traffic tie ups are estimated to result in 1.2 billion hours of lost
time, with productivity loss equal to approximately $30 billion in the United
States alone. On top of that, an estimated 2.2 billion gallons of gasoline are also
lost. One way that rush hour traffic can be reduced is through car pooling, or car
sharing. An initiative in Portland called Car Sharing Portland (CSP) has been
shown as one way to effectively reduce road traffic. Car sharing is when a group of
individuals or businesses share their cars with other members, who primarily use
these vehicles for short, local trips. As a result of CSP, 26% of members sold their
own personal cars, and 53% were able to avoid purchasing their own vehicle. This is
only one of many innovative solutions that have been shown to be effective in
reducing traffic congestion and unnecessary motor vehicle ownership. When the true
costs of commercial vehicles are considered, it is easy to find solutions that can be
beneficial both for you, and the environment.
The difficulty in determining whether commercial vehicle use or ownership is a need
Positive Effects Of Globalisation
Globalisation can be defined as the worldwide movement toward economic, financial,
trade and communications integration . (Business Dictionary. (2017). The definition
then goes onto discuss the interconnectedness and interdependent of a society that
allows a free transaction of capital and goods and services through the opening of
boarders and uninterrupted movement of labour. (Business Dictionary. (2017).
Globalisation can be seen in all aspects of a modern society and in the day to day
life of individuals, for example, with the advancement of technology we have seen an
increase of global communication with the use of the internet to allow people to
connect and understand different backgrounds and culture. This essay will primarily
focus on the way in which globalisation can affect and make an impact on the
economies of small community s and what the effects it has on the economy on a
global scale.
Globalisation can be argued to be the way of the future, the way to connect countries,
cultures and individuals. It is argued that the benefits encourage a less developed
country to join in the path of globalisation is that in theory it is meant to allow for
the free movement of labour, this being beneficial to a country that may be
experiencing labour shortages. This can be seen to be effective in the European
Union as they allowed migrants from Eastern Europe to move west to meet with their
labour demand. Another benefit of globalisation could be an increase in competition
Relative Asbestos Effect Essay
In addition to the multiplicativity index, the Relative Asbestos Effect (RAE) was
used to evaluate the multiplicative interaction between smoking and asbestos. The
RAE is the effect of smoking on the asbestos effect expressed as the ratio of the
risk ratio due to asbestos exposure in non smokers (RR01) to that in smokers
(RR11). This measure is used to examine the heterogeneity of asbestos effect across
categories of smoking status, to determine if there is effect measure modification. If
the asbestos effect is the same for non smokers as for smokers, then the RAE is
equal to one, whereas a value greater than one indicates that the effect of asbestos is
greater in non smokers than in smokers (negative multiplicative interaction), and vice
versa (27). The equation of RAE is: RAE=RR01/RR11... Show more content on

For the interaction term, an odds ratio (95% CI) which is significantly greater (or
less) than one, indicates a multiplicative interaction (29). The multiplicative
interaction may also be evaluated with the likelihood ratio test comparing logistic
regression models (or cox regression) with or without the interaction term (7,30). In
epidemiologic studies, researchers examine the additive interaction or multiplicative
interaction only for empirical reasons; and usually use the one that shows a better fit
to the observations. In fact, statistical interactions are mostly evaluated as departure
from multiplicativity, due to the statistical models used in the analyses (e.g. logistic
regression), and that the models generate the multiplicative interactions results
immediately. Usually, if authors are interested in the evaluation of the statistical
interaction, they should report results as departure from additivity and
My Cultural Immersion Experience
I contemplated for a long time on where I would do my cultural immersion
experience. I wanted to go somewhere where I was an outsider in a part of my own
culture. It was then that I realized I didn t have to go far for this assignment. For as
long as anyone can remember, my family has been Catholic. Despite that, I have
never been to church and I don t know much of anything about Catholicism. My
mother suggested going to St. Charles BorromeoChurch, the church that she and my
father belong to. Interestingly, my parents got married in this church, which makes
this cultural immersion experience rather special, and even personal. I decided to go
to the Saturday night Massat St. Charles, which commences every Saturday at
4:00P.M. I, being somewhat ignorant about Mass, assumed it only commenced on
Sunday mornings, but I was exceptionally wrong. St. Charles holds Mass Monday
through Thursday at 8:00A.M., Saturday at 4:00P.M., and Sunday at 10:30A.M.
and 5:00P.M. I didn t attend the Saturday Mass alone. Oddly enough, I felt rather
nervous about the experience. I bribed my 10 year old sister to attend with me,
seeing as I was watching her for the day regardless. Although I must admit, this
wasn t her idea of a good time. The neighborhood St. Charles is located at is very
familiar to me. My family owns a salon right down the street and I have many
friends who live on McKeen Street, in Brunswick. The setting of the event was
something that I am not familiar with. I realized as we sat down that I have
probably never sat in church pews before. It felt uncomfortable at first but as
people started filling in, my anxiety eased. I was unfamiliar with the kneelers,
which I thought at first were for my feet to rest on. I was comforted by the hymnal
book in front of me because as much as I didn t know, I knew there was singing
involved during Mass. Being an outsider at this event made me uncomfortable. I
was immensely nervous about going because I didn t want anyone to know that I
didn t know what I was doing. I remember asking myself: How crazy is that? I
wondered why it mattered so much to me that I didn t reveal that we didn t belong
here. I was astonished about how much I worked myself up over doing this, before
What Is Androgyny
In this essay I will be discussing and analysing, androgyny and gender. More
importantly, how gender was and is an important part of society; as well as, how
people have challenged the basic stereotypes of gender through fashion and
photography and how androgyny is links in with this. I will be using theories from
authors like: Judith Butler, Rebecca Arnold and Stuart Hall to support my research
analysis. I will also be adding images to back up and secure my research analysis.
The image I have chosen to analyse is Jean Paul Gaultier 1984 1985 autumn/winter

During this time, power dressing was the trend. Working class women would wear
oversized suit jackets with large shoulder pads; some women still kept the skirt with
the suit, while others abandoned them for trousers. Many women chose to dress in
a more masculine way to be seen as equal to men. Although it was said that this
way of dressing was wrong for the work place. A book was even written for the
working women who wanted to know how to dress appropriately for the work
place. It was written by John T. Molloy. Molloy argues that ...beyond any doubt the
uniform should be a skirted suit blouse or a jacket .(___:___) However, fig 1. was

began and unlike before many women were no longer wanting to look like men to
be equal. Feminism came back to deal with cultural issues, not just equality for
white women but for all races. And gender theories came to light. Due to what was
happening in the different times, it can be argued that there was some sort of
conflict between the designer (Jean Paul Gaultier) and the photographer (Paolo
Roversi). By the 1990s women found better ways to fight for equality and Roversi
found a way to portray it in a

that. In order to understand what the theme of the poem is, readers must analyze

Correlation Between Productive And Negative Favoritism
There is always someone in the workplace that seems like they have it easy. It
might be the walk, the talk, or maybe favoritism is on their side. The relationships
with the manager personally and in the workplace seems to be becoming obvious
that it s the boss favorite. With all the issues favoritism can have in a workplace
like, age, race, disability, etc. There is a purpose to having favoritism since can be
a good strategy to motivate workers to do their best. It can also show that the
person worked hard to be in the positioning there are in. The main point is knowing
the difference between productive and negative favoritism in order to adjust/take
action to become the best we can be. Favoritism is something in the workplace and
in everyday life would make things seem unfair. It would make gals to reach not
equally possible when, when certain employees already has a halo effect from the
managers. This can occur in all workplaces but most of the time in organizations
like warehouses and big companies that needs thousands of people in order to
reach goals. Even though it s almost human nature to have favoritism in the
workplace, it is also avoidable to make it evenly fair among all the employees to
have an opportunity to move up in positions. I believe favoritism is part of Human
Resource Management because it needs to be manage to favor all employees. Letting
whatever that is bothering us at work spoken out to the manager is also a solution to

The Effect Of Milk And Milk Of Magnesia On Seed
Germination
Background
A seed is the plants way of reproducing and allows the plant to produce plants of the
same kind. A seed is a developing plant that is bounded by a seed coat that covers the
seed and usually has stored food and nutrients inside. Seeds allow the plant to
reproduce so they don t become extinct. Radish seeds are rapid growing seeds that
grow best in full sunlight with their own space, soil with a pH level of 6.5 7, water
with a pH level of 7, and cool/moist soil. Lemonade has a pH level of 2.5 and is
acidic, so the seed most likely will grow at a very slow rate compared to a seed with
normal tap water. Milk of magnesia has a pH level of 10.5 which is more basic
and higher than the pH level of water, the substance radish seeds grow best in.
Therefore, the milk of magnesia might be too strong for the seeds and will cause
them to either grow extremely slow or not at all. The effect of lemonade and milk of
magnesia on seed germination can be measured by using a ruler and measuring the
sprout growth of each seed in centimeters daily.
Question
Will lemonade and milk of magnesia affect radish seed germination and growth?
Hypothesis
If I have 5ml of lemonade and 5ml of milk of magnesia and dilute each liquid with
5ml of tap water and apply each solution twice to ten radish seeds, I believe the seeds
will grow at a slower rate than radish seeds with 10ml of tap water.

An essential character in The Quiet American Phuong is quiet and intelligent.
Phuong speaks only when she is spoken to, and her character unlike Pyle and

Bad Blood By Lorna Sage
The conflicts that arise during our childhood are especially important for personality
development. Although most of these experiences have an irreversible effect on us,
we still tend to forget these precious memories, as they are simply too embarrassing
and painful to remember. In the extract from Bad blood by Lorna Sage, the author
shows how the incident on the school playground has impacted her as an adult and
her own personality. Lorna Sage highlights the hardships and challenges of childhood
and their importance in future life. The author has displayed this theme throughout

occasional tone.

Environmental Effects Of Cadmium
Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as
industrial progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental
pollutants, Cadmium has been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion
because of its resiliency and numerous negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010).
Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer, wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled
discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining and smelting, has led to
large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has adverse effects
on plantlife. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and
Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et.
Al., 2012). Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium
can lead to an altered plant water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many
plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and inhibitions of photosynthesisthrough an
adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al., 2012) Because Cadmium
replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is
worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata,
which oversee a plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then begin to
transpire less and photosynthesis in plants decrease as a result. Decreased
photosynthesis leads to growth inhibition of plants and an imbalance in

Biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne
The tall and mysterious Nathaniel Hawthorne is a man of little understanding. We
know him for being very secluded and alone much of the time. We also know he
had many secrets that may have accounted for the gloomy tone in his novels. He
was a writer who did not believe in the game of small talk and enjoyed losing
himself to a world of this own creation. Many people might have thought that
Hawthorne came off as rude and uninteresting, but they had no idea of the
masterpieces that laid inside his head. The work of Nathaniel Hawthornewas most
influenced by his solitary personality and Puritan background. Born on July 4,
1804, in Salem, Massachusetts, Hawthorne was brought up by a family with a
long New England history. Hawthorne had many relations to significant Puritans
and judges of the Salem Witch Trials. Especially known is Hawthorne s great great
grandfather, John Hathorne, a judge who oversaw the Salem witch trials. He is
also known for being one of the few who never repented his actions. Because of his
family background, Hawthorne added a w to his name once he started publishing
in order to distinguish himself. At the age of four, Hawthorne s father, a sea
captain, died of yellow fever, leaving his mother to raise him. His mother withdrew
to a life of seclusion, which she maintained till her death. The reclusive personality
of Hawthorne s mother most likely shaped his own personality as well. Even so,
Hawthorne showed a love of writing early on, and at the age of

Under what circumstances might the Fed want to shrink (contract) the money supply?
Be sure to relate your answer to the resulting effect on the Aggregate Demand
/Aggregate Supply model.
The main reason why the Fed wants to shrink the money supply is to achieve their
policy goals. They simply want to alter the money supply. This is achieved through
raising the federal discount rate, reducing the monetary base through open market
operations, and increasing reserve requirements. The Fed is likely to decrease the
money supply during times of high output and high inflation. The reason is that this
gives the Fed opportunity to keep inflation in check without doing much harm to
output.

One aspect is the role that society plays in acclimatizing women to be a victim.
Engel (1990 p. 44) explains that women have been taught by society to become
martyrs. As children, boys are encouraged to stick up for themselves and girls are
urged to accept what is and to be passive, conditioning women to have a victim
mindset (Engel, 1990, p. 44). This psychological theory is also supported by Hyde
and Else Quest (2013 p. 298), identifying it the learned helplessness theory. In this
theory, when individuals are exposed to disagreeable situations with no hope of
avoidance, they learn to accept the circumstance and become helpless (Hyde Else,
2013, p. 298). When a woman stays in an abusive relationship, she feels powerless,
losing hopefulness and accepts the despair (Engel, 1990, p. 143). This can be one of
the reasons why women stay in abusive

wage worker in America has to go through. Ehrenreich goes undercover and takes
low wage jobs to experience how a person with minimum wage of $6 $7/hour
survives. During her experiment Ehrenreich only uses the money she earns from her
job to pay rent, buy groceries,do laundry, pay for phone, and car. Throughout the
article Ehrenreich s purpose is to make high class feel grateful for what they have but
at the same time she encourages them to rally support to change conditions for low
wageworkers. Ehrenreich uses rhetorical techniques of syntactic repetition, pathos,
ethos, and evidence to persuade middle and high class Americans to realize the need
to raise the minimum wagein order for low wage workers to live comfortable lives.
One of the many rhetorical techniques Ehrenreich uses is syntactic repetition as a
way of instilling emotions in a readers in order to make them feel sorry for the
conditions low wage workers endure and then help in some capacity. In very first
sentence of the article Ehrenreich lists; At the beginning of June 1998 I leave behind
everything that normally soothes the ego and sustain the body home, career,
companion, reputation, ATM card for a plunge into the low wage workforce
(Ehrenreich 243). In this quote Ehrenreich just lists facts of what she leaves behind

Typically, if the President is of the Democratic Party, they will select a democratic

a qualified person to take up the honor of serving in the highest court, which
embodied the criteria defined by Presidents before but he also searched for something
more, humanity and compassion. President Obama turned to Sonia Sotomayor not
only for her experience in law but for the humanity he searched for as Sotomayor,
had both democratic and republicans praising her accomplishments throughout her

How Did Sears Transformed America
Sears Transformed America. It Deserves to Die With dignity
Sears which was the largest retailer in U.S more than 50 years ago, lost $748
million in the last quarter of 2016 from falling sales. The article explains that the
reason behind the severe financial loss came back to bad decision that sears made
after world war II.
Sears began in 1886 as a watch company, founded by Richard W. Sears. The article
explains that Sears was a successful retailor the same as Wal Mart during 1890 till
1930s. The Sears catalog could be found in every home in America. In early 1900s,
Sears was famous for its mail order delivery. In 1925, Sears had no physical stores in
the United States. The country was changing and many people were now moving to
city centers. Accordingly, new chain retailors began to start popularity. Sears joined
the market by opening their own retail locations. Sears experienced great success. At
the end of 1929, it had 300 stores in U.S. This strategy puts sears as one of the most

Sears actively started its expansion plan, and building new massive stores. In 1973,

but also diversifying into different businesses like Allstate car insurance, Dean

helped the company for a while, it has a huge cost for the company. The problem

The Marketing Industry and Generation X and Y
From X to Y: The Generation Gap, and its Effects
Introduction
Generation X, children born between 1965 and 1976, the first generation of
children defined as latchkey (oxford, marketing 4th edition). Living in an era of
dual income families, Gen X children were often left alone, and thus developed a
sense of independence, and resourcefulness. Unlike Baby boomers, where equality
was a core value, Gen X experienced more cultural diversity, higher levels of
education, with some even attaining college degrees. Gen X is also extremely
flexible, while they are loyal and committed to their jobs; if a better opportunity
presents itself they would grasp it in a heartbeat. Gen X is determined and

Diversity is another major influencer of Millennials, with such a strong focus on
creativity and having a heterogeneous organization through diversity. Education
levels are also at an all time high with Millennials, with which comes the optimistic
outlook most Millennials have on life. With many Gen Y entering the work force
now, the shift of the markets are moving to better be attuned to their new masters
attitudes, values, and beliefs, as the new face, voice, and shape of future generations.
The transition from generation X to Y like all previous transitions will impact the
markets, and revolutionize marketing strategies to be more attuned to today s
generation and how they perceive brand awareness, brand loyalty, the use of greener
/ethical materials, innovativeness, and creativity.
Purchasing Behaviour
Generation X s purchasing behaviour is that of brand loyalty and indifference
between premium brands and non premium brands. Generation X stay loyal to
brands if the quality of the product is consistent and if the price of the product
remains relatively affordable. Generation X will stay loyal if the product is
affordable and of significant quality. Generation X is extremely cautious when
buying products, and researching a product is a must before any purchase decision
is made. As such, it is obvious that most Gen X are concerned more with informative
advertising, visually appealing adverts are less appealing to Gen X
Political Perspectives On The Political System
Political perspectives Ch. 2 VS. Dialogical ethics and significant choice Ch. 4
The political system is similar to communication theory in the sense that they both
have interdependent rules and ethics that are important to the success of the members
participating. Just as there are different compartments to politics, there for
communications as well. There are specific values to politics just as there are to
communications. Politics implements heavy usage of rhetoric, while a large portion of
communications is based on rhetoric, and vice versa. Within the political
perspective, there are many different theories. Specifically, I would like to focus on
the Four moralities. Founded by Karl Wallace, he singles out four values and
beliefs that he feels are essential to functionality of the political system. In simpler
terms, the four values include respect, fairness, freedom, and belief. In order for
citizens to instill these values, he created the four moralities, which is essentially an
ethical guideline. These statements are utilized to promote the four values and
beliefs. First, developing the habit of search. This entails communicating ethically
and readily exploring the details and outcomes of any given situation or scenario.
This rule focuses on being extremely educated of the subject you are speaking on in
any context. You have to be open minded and be able to understand any opposing
arguments made. Doing this prepares you for any debates, you are ready to answer

As it turns out there was in fact big oil in these decisions. The trolley case of
California is a classic example. Until the thirties an efficient electric trolley line
was in place in many of the major cities in the U.S. the most famous case of this is
the Los Angeles lines that were the largest in the country. all this went out the
window starting in 1939, when GM got together with Standard Oil of California
(now Chevron), Firestone, and other auto related firms to set up a holding company
that bought up trolley lines, dismantled them, and replaced them with buses
(Straight Dope). Chevron did in fact have a large hand in this. Eliminating these
trolleys created a fossil fuel dependent system of busses and increased demand for
oil driven autos. This was not the only case however, 1974 one Bradford Snell, a
staff attorney for the U.S. Senate antitrust subcommittee, advanced the startling
proposition that GM had sabotaged energy efficient electric transit systems in 45
cities around the country (ibid). They were actually found guilty of conspiracy

Evaporation Is A Fundamental For Human Life
Evaporation is eminently fundamental for the human life. Without evaporation, there
would be no crops, no rain, and the human body would overheat. When most people
think about evaporation, they usually associate it with the water cycle. All liquids can
evaporate at room temperature, including water, orange juice, rubbing alcohol, and
nail polish remover, but do they all evaporate at the same rate? Surprisingly, most
people do not take into consideration that evaporationalso occurs in their own home.
Evaporation is one of the six stages of the water cycle, or hydrologic cycle.
Evaporation is the process in which a liquid surpasses a change to become a gaseous
substance. Evaporation befalls due to atoms or molecules escaping from a liquid ...

The average energy can be low and the evaporation still continues. (United States
Geological Survey 2014) Not all molecules have the same energy, which is why
evaporation can occur even if the liquid isn t boiling. The rate of evaporation is
increased with a decrease in the gas pressure around a liquid. Once the gas
pressure reaches a specific level, the rate of evaporation slows down. The density of
a liquid also has an impact on the rate of evaporation; the higher the density of a
liquid, the slower the rate of evaporation. The most important substance in the world
is water, without it there would be no world. Water is a molecule that is composed of
two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, also known as H2O. Water is a polar
molecule, making it able to dissolve other polar molecules. Water is attracted to
itself by cohesion. Cohesion is the attraction of one substance to itself. Cohesion is
possible for water due to its strong hydrogen bonds. Alone hydrogen bonds are
weak, but together they form one of the strongest bonds known. Water is an
extremely diverse substance that can be in solid form, liquid form, and gas form.
The normal temperature of water is 25oC, which produces its liquid form. When
water reaches below 0oC, it freezes and becomes solid. Above100oC is when water
reaches its gaseous form and boiling point; that is more than a 75o temperature
change from liquid to gas. Studies show that the evaporation rate of a liquid depends

Is it right to grant eighteen year olds all of these privileges and responsibilities, and
to restrict them from drinking alcohol? If eighteen year olds don t have the
discretion to drink responsibly, then how could they possibly handle the
responsibilities and privileges that adults have? I believe that eighteen year olds
do have the ability to handle the freedoms and responsibilities of being an adult,
which should include the privilege to drink alcohol. Many eighteen year olds are
college freshmen, and, in most colleges, beer is available to people under the age
of twenty one. Remorseless drinking has long been as much a ritual of university
life as football, final exams, and frat parties (Gorman, 176). I believe that the federal
government is tempting these underage adults by restricting their legal ability to
drink in such an environment as college campuses where it is legal for many of the
students to consume alcoholic beverages. In order to be able to drink alcohol, many
underage adults purchase fake forms of identification; Raising the legal drinking age
from 18 to 21 in the 1980s merely triggered a boom in the business of creating fake
ID cards (Gorman, 176). People twenty years of age and younger are purchasing
these fake forms of identification in order to allow them to enter and drink in bars

How Did The Great Depression Impact On Society
The Great Depression was a great economic breakdown, from buying on credit to
the stock market crash, which lead to bank failures and people in the streets with no
jobs or money to support their families. This depression would spread throughout the
nation and the world, giving a growing enemy in Europe, the advantage he needed.
After World War I, America celebrated and the Roaring 20 s was underway. People
were cheerful and happily celebrating for many days and nights. However, during this
time buying on credit made a huge impact on the community. People didn t take their
future into consideration, and soon started buying items they didn t have the money
for, so the installment system was created so people could pay their debts over time.
But soon the Stock Market crashed on October 29,1929 and the installment system
went down with it. Now that they couldn t pay for their items, they felt worried and
pressured knowing that they could lose their home and everything they possessed.

The Conflict In Ramona
In Helen Hunt Jackson s masterfully woven tale, Ramona, the main conflict seen is
man vs. society. The story takes place in the early 19th Century, during the time of
American settlement in Old California. Ramona, the main character, is a young
girl growing up under the care of a woman named Senora Moreno. Due to the fact
her father was Irish and her mother an Indian, Ramona finds that she is faced with a
society that does not always look on Indians with a friendly eye. Even the Senora
finds it incredibly difficult to feel any kind of compassion for Ramona, and bears no
lovefor the girl. She often treats her coldly and only does what is necessary for her
well being because of a promise she made. The conflict first makes its appearance
when Ramona falls in love with Alessandro, a handsome Indian working on the
Moreno estate. Upon discovering their forbidden love, Senora Moreno wastes no
time in showing her severe disapproval of the pair s affection for each other, and
does everything in her power to prevent the two from marrying. After a time of
enduring the Senora s cruel attempts at destroying her love for Alessandro, Ramona
finally leaves the only home she has ever known to elope with her beloved.
The conflict begins to develop after Ramona and Alessandro leave, and begin to
encounter obstacles that stem from a society that possesses a general dislike of
Indians. They decide to return to Alessandro s old hometown, Temecula, where
Americans have forced all the Indians to
The Effects Of Psychological Techniques On Innocent...
FALSE CONFESSIONS The majority of people find it hard to believe that an
individual who is innocent would confess to a serious crime that they did not
commit. However, empirical data has now revealed that many innocent defendants
have been convicted on the basis of their false confessions (White, 2003). The
following section will analyze false confessions and how they happen. This section
will examine the characteristics of a defendant that may alter a confession, and then
go on to looking at the circumstances of the interrogation.
In the majority of false confession cases, police did not extract the confession by
employing torture techniques. However, the effects of psychological techniques on
innocent defendants may have been underestimated in the past. There are many
contributing factors that lead to the admission of false confessions. The system must
consider these factors when determining if a confession is legitimate.
Mental health is one of the major factors one must consider when looking at a
confession. Mentally handicapped defendants are far more susceptible to respond to
suggestive police interrogations with false confessions (White, 2003). To provide an
adequate defense, a lawyer should access a defendant s IQ and determine weather
there is a possibility that the defendant may have a mental disability.
Next, it is important to examine the circumstances of the police interrogation. When a
defendant confesses, it may be due to the police interrogation

Basically, Beethoven s personality is unacceptable to others opinions or criticism

plenty criticisms regarding his previous two versions of the opera. On the other
hand, his friends advised him to revise for success since his misconception of the

of French armies in Vienna. On December 1805, the tenor Josef August Rockel left
the comments regarding a small committee to discuss the Beethoven s opera in the
Lichnowsky palace. The small committee included only two singers for all high voice
and all low voice. Furthermore, the princess played piano for the orchestra part and

The Importance Of Media In The Media
Media is everywhere around the world, it surrounds us even when sometimes we
don t even notice it. It can appear from newspapers to news, or as well physically
and throughout electronic devices such as cell phones. We consider it as a tool to
make time fly ahead or to spectate what is going on with other people s lives.
However, we may encounter certain factors that may not appeal to us. We may see
postings or news about tragic events that happen around the world and surprisingly,
sometimes we don t even bother to care, due to the fact that it wasn t us in that
situation. There are a great number of aspects to be resolved for this world to be free
from issues, but a question that comes to mind is, What if it never... Show more

An example that can relate to this song is when 9/11 happened, due to terrorists.
An unexpected tragic event that no one thought would happen that took many
lives from loved ones to close ones. In addition, Billie Joe Armstrong s pathos has
an outstanding true meaning based from the lyrics, A new day dawning, comes
without warning... . One can interpret based on this factor that every day is a new
opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that Billie
Joe Armstrong is trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though
we live happy at times, there is always something dark waiting to approach at any
time with unpredictable outcome. A second example based on this observation
can be the terror attack that happened recently on Friday when a bombing occurred
in a London train underground that injured 30 passengers on board. And
furthermore, a second man was arrested a couple days later due to the fact that he
too was also affiliated with the incident as well according to officers. In addition to
the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and how it s impossible
for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? When it s
exclusive? , as if he were trying to say that it would have to take a miracle for the
world to resolve from this. Many people have experienced moments when others are
made fun of or times when people fight for various reasons such as an argument.
Obscenity Laws Texts Schools And Public Libraries

Schools And Public Libraries Obscenity Laws Texts in Schools and Public Libraries
Introduction Morality is a virtue that all humans ought to embrace. The different
societies where we live in have set standards that provide guidelines that all are to
follow. However, with all the set conditions, a section of the population still chose to
go astray. Through their actions, verbally and in all manners known to them, this
group upholds obscene vices that are a deterrent to the community s standards of
decency (Ryder 210). Obscene practices extend to those materials that are intended to
invoke impure sexual thoughts. These materials spread in publications to schools and
public libraries at high rates. The question arises that, to what limit should a material
be labeled as obscene? Certain fiction writers do not consider the use of euphemisms
in their works and at certain times cause intentional ambiguity that attracts diverse
reactions from their readers. This phenomenon comes about from what is termed as
the reception theory. The mind tends to develop in accordance with the exposure
(Cossman 50). It is evident that these scenes tend to be more attractive to the
unsuspecting persons, mostly teenagers; therefore, developing strategies to protect
them is essential. The Canadian government believes that continuing to produce these
materials can corrupt the minds of the readers and the wider population.
Homeless And Non Homeless Lesbian, Gay, And Bisexual
The study examined two groups, homeless and non homeless Lesbian, Gay, and
Bisexual (LGB) youths (Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter, 2012). There were a total of
156 participants between the ages of 14 and 21 years with a mean age of 18.3 years.
Participants were recruited from community based organizations, which focused on
youths and two college organizations of LGB students. Researchers wanted to
explore potential risk factors associated with the reason some LGB youths become
homeless, while others do not. The risk factors included experiencing sexual abuse,
negative responses from others based on one s sexual orientation, unbearable stress
for the parent or youth, and substance abuse. All of which are reasons one may run
away from home and become homeless. Lastly, researcher s hypothesized non
homeless youth are less likely than homeless youths to be involved in sexual abuse
and early sexual identity development as it pertains to LGB (Rosario et al., 2012).
The results revealed 75 of the 156 youths reported being homeless at some point,
57 had a history of running away, 38 were evicted from their parent s home; 20
youths experienced both running away and eviction (Rosario et al., 2012). From the
57 youths with a history of running away, 23 reported running away once and 14
more than one time. In relation to sexual orientation 13 youths who ran away, and 12
youths who were evicted reported identifying as LGB as the reason for becoming
homeless. Researchers then combined the

Abstract
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a component of the health care system of China that can be traced
back at least 2,500 years. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the premise
that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for
health. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease.
Acupuncture may, it has been theorized, correct imbalances of flow at identifiable
points close to the skin.
Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances
your Chi (energy). Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and help it flow
back into balance.
Acupuncture is a family of procedures involving ... Show more content on

Some acupuncture patients report feeling relief from pain after just one treatment.
Others notice results after a series of treatments.
Another positive aspect of acupuncture is that it generally causes few or no side
effects either during or after treatment. Despite the fact that treatment sessions
involve piercing the skin with needles, the needles used are extremely thin, and thus
their insertion does not cause pain in most patients. It is also rare for patients to
experience effects such as bruising or soreness following a treatment.
Many find that the price of treatments is a major disadvantage to using acupuncture
for pain management. Often, multiple treatments are needed before one s pain begins
to diminish. As it is generally considered a form of alternative or complementary
medicine, acupuncture may not be covered by one s health insurance, and thus can be
costly.
Further, acupuncture is not guaranteed to reduce pain, and a significant number of
patients find that it has no noticeable effect. In fact, medical researchers are still
uncertain as to why acupuncture lessens pain in some individuals. Based on
comparative studies of groups receiving acupuncture and those receiving a mock
treatment, it seems that the technique s success or failure may be partly due to
psychological factors.
Finally, using acupuncture for pain management can lead
Comparing The Consolidated Statement Of Earning Or
Income...
The consolidated Statement of Earning or income statement, tells the user about the
sales and expensed applied by the Home Deport during the fiscal year. An analysis
of income statements shows a company with strong sales figures and the worth of
up to $71 billion sales per year. Nevertheless, the one thing that is very noticeable is
the substantial drop in sales from to Fiscal 2008 compared to previous years. Home
DepotВґs net sales in Fiscal have dropped from 25,997 to 23,990 (in the millions). In
addition to the drop in sales, Home Depot had reported higher expenses throughout
Fiscal 2008. The statements provides through information that is very helpful
throughout the decision making process of the company. For example, upper
management may determine that a struggling economy is the possible cause of the
decrease in sales and it may not be the best time to introduce any new projects. Also,
the company may decide to increase their credit programs for consumers with the
intention to increase sales. In general, the company is strong, however the drop in
sales and net earnings cannot warrant some cautions until the economy shows signs
of improvement and the sales and net earnings continue to drop. The drop in sales
and net earnings shows that even the strong companies are affected when the
economy is not doing so well.
The balance sheet is one of the major and critical financial statements that show the
financial position of the company. The balance sheets tell the user of the
Statistical Data Analysis On The Field Of Counseling...
Statistical data analysis is important in the field of counseling psychology. It is
important because it provides advancement in social behavioral science research. It
also provides secondary analysis in research. Some topics in social research need
updating or there is limited research on the topic, or the published research is too
broad to apply to one s current research study. For instance, frequency distributionis
an essential need that occurs often in social research. We identify it as a set of
variables that occur frequently and the goal is to support the hypothesis or goals of
the literature research. In this paper will discuss what the author of this paper
completed to develop a frequency distribution in SPSS, the author s findings of the
research, and what the author learned from utilizing the dataset provided. In this lab
assignment, there were several steps completed for frequencies, frequency tables, bar
charts, pie charts, and histograms with the 1998 state court dataset. These analytical
tasks prove the ability to successfully complete and report frequency distributions.
From the 1998 state court data file, the following variables analyzed in SPSS were:
race of defendant, age at arrest, and number of pretrial rearrests. First, in SPSS the
1998 state court dataset in the data view were completed. Next, analysis through the
descriptive statistics tab then through the frequencies sub tab occurred. After that,

Comparing Augustine, Aquinas, Galileo, And Organized
Religion
Today, new technology and theories provide proof on how our world functions.
Through these new developments, the sciences can advance. This advancement not
only allowed us to increase knowledge but our rationality likewise. Traits that are
only unique to us in the entire animal kingdom. Like science, Religion is seen to
have as much of an influential role in our development as a species. Organized
religion helps create a connection between people which results in community and
culture. Ideas would be able to spread and grow far easier within a community. This
was due to religion s prevalence in the ancient world more so than the present day. A
key example was the establishment of Christianityas the Roman Empire s official
religion. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His more relaxed viewpoint on the interpretations of the Bible and scripture allowed
him to accept the Copernican theory. He even justified his stance through
principals. The first principle was called biblical limitation. I should judge that the
authority of the Bible was designed to persuade men of these articles and
propositions which, by science, or by any other means than through the very mouth
of the Holy Spirit. This principle overall explained that the bible could only be
understood and interpreted correctly by the Holy Mother Mary. This gave a
justification against claims from previous scholars such as St. Aquinas and St.
Augustine. These two scholars took ideas for the overall argument from
interpretations of the Bible made from either themselves or those before them.
Therefore, Galileo believed that the interpretations were false. This allowed for
science to not come in conflict with Catholicism as no one truly understood it.
Another principle was the priority of physical demonstration. This principle stressed
more on the empirical evidence before scriptural evidence. For this principle, Galileo
focused primarily on nature and this allowed him to protect the concept of the
Copernican theory from the bible. Since he used empirical evidence on nature, it
allowed him to determine that the sun was at the center of the universe. Thus,
observation, a major part of scientific
Learning Self-Analysis Essay
I once thought of myself as a slow learner. My friends and acquaintances seemed to
have knowledge and experiences unknown to me. I now realize I was a sheltered
learner. My sensory input was limited. What I saw, read, heard, and even did, was
limited to what my parents, teachers, preachers and even my spouse, thought I should
experience.
Reading, which once seemed restricted to school books, the Bible, and parenting
books, became an adventure to a new life. I acquired new desires, dreams, goals and
thoughts. I developed a can do attitude instead of a wait and see approach to living.
Instead of spending countless hours watching television, I checked out books from
the library. In waiting rooms I would select magazines with ... Show more content on

I wanted more information. I wanted to hear their story. I wanted to know how they
did it, what they thought afterwards, and what they would do different. I began
listening to different music styles. I signed up for various seminars and joined a few
clubs. I wanted to hear what other people had to say.
I no longer had feeling of being sheltered. I wanted to see America from the
mountains to the plains, from the East Coast to the West Coast, and I did. I have
visited many of the sites I have heard about and read about. I saw New York when
the Twin towers were still new. I saw the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and the
street vendors up and down The Avenue of Americans. I have seen the Seattle
Space Needle and Mount St. Helens before and after the eruption of May 1980. At
the Mojave airport in Mojave, California, I saw the Voyager aircraft that was flown
by Dick Rutan Jeana Yeager, in 1986, non stop around the world. I have seen the
dreams of others when I attended the Experimental Aircraft Association fly in at
Oshkosh, Wisconsin. As an adult I experienced laughing like a child during a visit at
Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Just this past summer, I enjoyed hearing joyful
laughter from my granddaughter when we visited Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
I have experienced the bitter cold of winter in the Canadian city of Winnipeg,
Manitoba. And I have felt the hot and humid summer days along the Gulf Coast at
Long Beach, Mississippi.

Quiet Hero Adel Torres Professor: De Palo December 8, 2012 Quiet Hero s Crisis Intervention amp; Trauma Treatment 3:30pm 5:20pm Quiet Hero: Secrets from my Father s Past, written by Rita Cosby, is a story of war, a story of courage, and a story of a daughter finally getting to know her father. In this book, Rita speaks about her father s childhood as well as her own; the difficulties she faced growing up with a strict father whom she felt she barely knew. Rita grew up in Greenwich Connecticut, with her Danish mother and her Polish father; a father she had a distant and unemotional relationship with. Growing up Rita knew very little about her father. She only knew that he had left Poland after WWII. When Rita was about eight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This book touched me profoundly. I grew up without my father and met him when I was 20 years old. Meeting him was very challenging for me because I was consumed with so much anger and I blamed him for not being there for me. In reading this book I am able to realize that we do not always get to choose the path we walk down and sometimes life s circumstances shape the people we become, for better or worse. This book has made me want to give my own father a chance to explain to me what his life has been like, so that I might have a better understanding of who he is. As I continue my journey through school, I am better able to assess individuals and situations and have a level of empathy without being judgmental. As children we often feel like we know who our parents are but there are so many unanswered questions and hidden lives that it makes it difficult for children to relate to their parents. Each of our paths has impacted us in both negative or positive ways and being able to understand that this affects the decisions that we make can make unpleasant situations a bit easier to digest. Seeing how Rita felt closer to her father as an adult once she got to know him, makes me feel like there is still hope for my father and I. If Rita s father would have received help for the trauma he had gone through I believe he could have been a better father to Rita while she was growing up. Untreated trauma can affect a family on so many
  • 4. The Use Of Motor Vehicles And Their Ownership, Social And... It s a fact, commercial vehicle use around the world is expanding, both in the developed and developing world. It is debatable whether the use, and more specifically ownership, of a passenger vehicle is a need, or a want, but before we consider the implications surrounding this debate, we need to discuss what these terms mean. Needs are things such as food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep, and comfort that are necessary for human survival. Wants are things that may increase a person s feelings of self worth, self fulfillment, independence, and personal potential. Note that defining what is a need, and what is a want is not always black and white, there are many things, such as passenger vehicles, that may fall somewhere in between these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was also found that fuel consumption and emissions were 20 45% higher during rush hour traffic than in steady traffic conditions. Stopped traffic, especially during commute times, is not only a frustration to drivers, but to business and corporations as well. Each year, traffic tie ups are estimated to result in 1.2 billion hours of lost time, with productivity loss equal to approximately $30 billion in the United States alone. On top of that, an estimated 2.2 billion gallons of gasoline are also lost. One way that rush hour traffic can be reduced is through car pooling, or car sharing. An initiative in Portland called Car Sharing Portland (CSP) has been shown as one way to effectively reduce road traffic. Car sharing is when a group of individuals or businesses share their cars with other members, who primarily use these vehicles for short, local trips. As a result of CSP, 26% of members sold their own personal cars, and 53% were able to avoid purchasing their own vehicle. This is only one of many innovative solutions that have been shown to be effective in reducing traffic congestion and unnecessary motor vehicle ownership. When the true costs of commercial vehicles are considered, it is easy to find solutions that can be beneficial both for you, and the environment. The difficulty in determining whether commercial vehicle use or ownership is a need
  • 5. Positive Effects Of Globalisation Globalisation can be defined as the worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade and communications integration . (Business Dictionary. (2017). The definition then goes onto discuss the interconnectedness and interdependent of a society that allows a free transaction of capital and goods and services through the opening of boarders and uninterrupted movement of labour. (Business Dictionary. (2017). Globalisation can be seen in all aspects of a modern society and in the day to day life of individuals, for example, with the advancement of technology we have seen an increase of global communication with the use of the internet to allow people to connect and understand different backgrounds and culture. This essay will primarily focus on the way in which globalisation can affect and make an impact on the economies of small community s and what the effects it has on the economy on a global scale. Globalisation can be argued to be the way of the future, the way to connect countries, cultures and individuals. It is argued that the benefits encourage a less developed country to join in the path of globalisation is that in theory it is meant to allow for the free movement of labour, this being beneficial to a country that may be experiencing labour shortages. This can be seen to be effective in the European Union as they allowed migrants from Eastern Europe to move west to meet with their labour demand. Another benefit of globalisation could be an increase in competition
  • 6. Relative Asbestos Effect Essay In addition to the multiplicativity index, the Relative Asbestos Effect (RAE) was used to evaluate the multiplicative interaction between smoking and asbestos. The RAE is the effect of smoking on the asbestos effect expressed as the ratio of the risk ratio due to asbestos exposure in non smokers (RR01) to that in smokers (RR11). This measure is used to examine the heterogeneity of asbestos effect across categories of smoking status, to determine if there is effect measure modification. If the asbestos effect is the same for non smokers as for smokers, then the RAE is equal to one, whereas a value greater than one indicates that the effect of asbestos is greater in non smokers than in smokers (negative multiplicative interaction), and vice versa (27). The equation of RAE is: RAE=RR01/RR11... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the interaction term, an odds ratio (95% CI) which is significantly greater (or less) than one, indicates a multiplicative interaction (29). The multiplicative interaction may also be evaluated with the likelihood ratio test comparing logistic regression models (or cox regression) with or without the interaction term (7,30). In epidemiologic studies, researchers examine the additive interaction or multiplicative interaction only for empirical reasons; and usually use the one that shows a better fit to the observations. In fact, statistical interactions are mostly evaluated as departure from multiplicativity, due to the statistical models used in the analyses (e.g. logistic regression), and that the models generate the multiplicative interactions results immediately. Usually, if authors are interested in the evaluation of the statistical interaction, they should report results as departure from additivity and
  • 7. My Cultural Immersion Experience I contemplated for a long time on where I would do my cultural immersion experience. I wanted to go somewhere where I was an outsider in a part of my own culture. It was then that I realized I didn t have to go far for this assignment. For as long as anyone can remember, my family has been Catholic. Despite that, I have never been to church and I don t know much of anything about Catholicism. My mother suggested going to St. Charles BorromeoChurch, the church that she and my father belong to. Interestingly, my parents got married in this church, which makes this cultural immersion experience rather special, and even personal. I decided to go to the Saturday night Massat St. Charles, which commences every Saturday at 4:00P.M. I, being somewhat ignorant about Mass, assumed it only commenced on Sunday mornings, but I was exceptionally wrong. St. Charles holds Mass Monday through Thursday at 8:00A.M., Saturday at 4:00P.M., and Sunday at 10:30A.M. and 5:00P.M. I didn t attend the Saturday Mass alone. Oddly enough, I felt rather nervous about the experience. I bribed my 10 year old sister to attend with me, seeing as I was watching her for the day regardless. Although I must admit, this wasn t her idea of a good time. The neighborhood St. Charles is located at is very familiar to me. My family owns a salon right down the street and I have many friends who live on McKeen Street, in Brunswick. The setting of the event was something that I am not familiar with. I realized as we sat down that I have probably never sat in church pews before. It felt uncomfortable at first but as people started filling in, my anxiety eased. I was unfamiliar with the kneelers, which I thought at first were for my feet to rest on. I was comforted by the hymnal book in front of me because as much as I didn t know, I knew there was singing involved during Mass. Being an outsider at this event made me uncomfortable. I was immensely nervous about going because I didn t want anyone to know that I didn t know what I was doing. I remember asking myself: How crazy is that? I wondered why it mattered so much to me that I didn t reveal that we didn t belong here. I was astonished about how much I worked myself up over doing this, before

  • 11. The Effect Of Milk And Milk Of Magnesia On Seed Germination Background A seed is the plants way of reproducing and allows the plant to produce plants of the same kind. A seed is a developing plant that is bounded by a seed coat that covers the seed and usually has stored food and nutrients inside. Seeds allow the plant to reproduce so they don t become extinct. Radish seeds are rapid growing seeds that grow best in full sunlight with their own space, soil with a pH level of 6.5 7, water with a pH level of 7, and cool/moist soil. Lemonade has a pH level of 2.5 and is acidic, so the seed most likely will grow at a very slow rate compared to a seed with normal tap water. Milk of magnesia has a pH level of 10.5 which is more basic and higher than the pH level of water, the substance radish seeds grow best in. Therefore, the milk of magnesia might be too strong for the seeds and will cause them to either grow extremely slow or not at all. The effect of lemonade and milk of magnesia on seed germination can be measured by using a ruler and measuring the sprout growth of each seed in centimeters daily. Question Will lemonade and milk of magnesia affect radish seed germination and growth? Hypothesis If I have 5ml of lemonade and 5ml of milk of magnesia and dilute each liquid with 5ml of tap water and apply each solution twice to ten radish seeds, I believe the seeds will grow at a slower rate than radish seeds with 10ml of tap water. Materials 30 radish seeds Paper Towels 3 Petri dishes (Top and bottom)

  • 16. Environmental Effects Of Cadmium Environmental pollutants are becoming increasingly present throughout the world as industrial progress has expanded in countries like China. Among these environmental pollutants, Cadmium has been characterized as the most dangerous heavy metal ion because of its resiliency and numerous negative health effects (Kermani et. Al., 2010). Growing dependence on chemical fertilizer, wastewater irrigation, and uncontrolled discharge of industrial waste from activities, such as mining and smelting, has led to large amounts of Cadmium in soil (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Cadmium has adverse effects on plantlife. Cadmium competes with nutrients, such as Calcium, Magnesium, and Iron, that are also trying to get through the cell membranes of plant cells (Nazar et. Al., 2012). Specifically, disruption of the Calcium channel in plants with Cadmium can lead to an altered plant water relationship, causing, stomatal closure in many plants, leading to lower transpiration rate, and inhibitions of photosynthesisthrough an adverse effect on chlorophyll metabolism. (Nazar et. Al., 2012) Because Cadmium replaces the space that plants have for Calcium, the plants overall function is worsened because it changes the plant s relationship with water, causing the stomata, which oversee a plants respiratory function, to close. The plants then begin to transpire less and photosynthesis in plants decrease as a result. Decreased photosynthesis leads to growth inhibition of plants and an imbalance in

Their massive incomes contribute enormously to economies all over the world and this gives them massive pull in these economies. It is no wonder then that conspiracy theories and myths of large scale evil plots surround these major oil producers. They range from the ridiculous to quite believable. As it turns out there was in fact big oil in these decisions. The trolley case of California is a classic example. Until the thirties an efficient electric trolley line was in place in many of the major cities in the U.S. the most famous case of this is the Los Angeles lines that were the largest in the country. all this went out the window starting in 1939, when GM got together with Standard Oil of California (now Chevron), Firestone, and other auto related firms to set up a holding company that bought up trolley lines, dismantled them, and replaced them with buses (Straight Dope). Chevron did in fact have a large hand in this. Eliminating these trolleys created a fossil fuel dependent system of busses and increased demand for oil driven autos. This was not the only case however, 1974 one Bradford Snell, a staff attorney for the U.S. Senate antitrust subcommittee, advanced the startling proposition that GM had sabotaged energy efficient electric transit systems in 45 cities around the country (ibid). They were actually found guilty of conspiracy Government attorney Bradford Snell has written that in 1949 GM and its partners in NCL were convicted in U.S. District Court in Chicago of criminal conspiracy in this matter and fined $5,000 each for anti trust violations (contracts in restraint of trade, i.e. forcing subsidiaries to buy products from their owners: GM buses, Firestone tires, Standard and Phillips

When most people think about evaporation, they usually associate it with the water cycle. All liquids can evaporate at room temperature, including water, orange juice, rubbing alcohol, and nail polish remover, but do they all evaporate at the same rate? Surprisingly, most people do not take into consideration that evaporationalso occurs in their own home. Evaporation is one of the six stages of the water cycle, or hydrologic cycle. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average energy can be low and the evaporation still continues. (United States Geological Survey 2014) Not all molecules have the same energy, which is why evaporation can occur even if the liquid isn t boiling. The rate of evaporation is increased with a decrease in the gas pressure around a liquid. Once the gas pressure reaches a specific level, the rate of evaporation slows down. The density of a liquid also has an impact on the rate of evaporation; the higher the density of a liquid, the slower the rate of evaporation. The most important substance in the world is water, without it there would be no world. Water is a molecule that is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, also known as H2O. Water is a polar molecule, making it able to dissolve other polar molecules. Water is attracted to itself by cohesion. Cohesion is the attraction of one substance to itself. Cohesion is possible for water due to its strong hydrogen bonds. Alone hydrogen bonds are weak, but together they form one of the strongest bonds known. Water is an extremely diverse substance that can be in solid form, liquid form, and gas form. The normal temperature of water is 25oC, which produces its liquid form. When water reaches below 0oC, it freezes and becomes solid. Above100oC is when water reaches its gaseous form and boiling point; that is more than a 75o temperature change from liquid to gas. Studies show that the evaporation rate of a liquid depends on the

Is it right to grant eighteen year olds all of these privileges and responsibilities, and to restrict them from drinking alcohol? If eighteen year olds don t have the discretion to drink responsibly, then how could they possibly handle the responsibilities and privileges that adults have? I believe that eighteen year olds do have the ability to handle the freedoms and responsibilities of being an adult, which should include the privilege to drink alcohol. Many eighteen year olds are college freshmen, and, in most colleges, beer is available to people under the age of twenty one. Remorseless drinking has long been as much a ritual of university life as football, final exams, and frat parties (Gorman, 176). I believe that the federal government is tempting these underage adults by restricting their legal ability to drink in such an environment as college campuses where it is legal for many of the students to consume alcoholic beverages. In order to be able to drink alcohol, many underage adults purchase fake forms of identification; Raising the legal drinking age from 18 to 21 in the 1980s merely triggered a boom in the business of creating fake ID cards (Gorman, 176). People twenty years of age and younger are purchasing these fake forms of identification in order to allow them to enter and drink in bars with their friends who

FALSE CONFESSIONS The majority of people find it hard to believe that an individual who is innocent would confess to a serious crime that they did not commit. However, empirical data has now revealed that many innocent defendants have been convicted on the basis of their false confessions (White, 2003). The following section will analyze false confessions and how they happen. This section will examine the characteristics of a defendant that may alter a confession, and then go on to looking at the circumstances of the interrogation. In the majority of false confession cases, police did not extract the confession by employing torture techniques. However, the effects of psychological techniques on innocent defendants may have been underestimated in the past. There are many contributing factors that lead to the admission of false confessions. The system must consider these factors when determining if a confession is legitimate. Mental health is one of the major factors one must consider when looking at a confession. Mentally handicapped defendants are far more susceptible to respond to suggestive police interrogations with false confessions (White, 2003). To provide an adequate defense, a lawyer should access a defendant s IQ and determine weather there is a possibility that the defendant may have a mental disability. Next, it is important to examine the circumstances of the police interrogation. When a defendant confesses, it may be due to the police interrogation

The different societies where we live in have set standards that provide guidelines that all are to follow. However, with all the set conditions, a section of the population still chose to go astray. Through their actions, verbally and in all manners known to them, this group upholds obscene vices that are a deterrent to the community s standards of decency (Ryder 210). Obscene practices extend to those materials that are intended to invoke impure sexual thoughts. These materials spread in publications to schools and public libraries at high rates. The question arises that, to what limit should a material be labeled as obscene? Certain fiction writers do not consider the use of euphemisms in their works and at certain times cause intentional ambiguity that attracts diverse reactions from their readers. This phenomenon comes about from what is termed as the reception theory. The mind tends to develop in accordance with the exposure (Cossman 50). It is evident that these scenes tend to be more attractive to the unsuspecting persons, mostly teenagers; therefore, developing strategies to protect them is essential. The Canadian government believes that continuing to produce these materials can corrupt the minds of the readers and the wider population.

This principle overall explained that the bible could only be understood and interpreted correctly by the Holy Mother Mary. This gave a justification against claims from previous scholars such as St. Aquinas and St. Augustine.
