Pursuasive Essay
Crafting a persuasive essay can be a challenging endeavor that requires a combination of critical
thinking, eloquent expression, and effective persuasion. The difficulty lies not only in presenting
your viewpoint convincingly but also in anticipating and addressing opposing arguments. It
demands meticulous research to support your claims and a deep understanding of the audience
to tailor your message appropriately.
The process begins with selecting a compelling topic, one that not only captures your interest but
also resonates with your audience. Once the topic is chosen, extensive research becomes
essential. This involves delving into various sources, ranging from scholarly articles to real-world
examples, to gather evidence that fortifies your stance. The challenge lies in distinguishing
reliable information from biased sources and synthesizing it into a coherent argument.
Structuring the essay is another hurdle to overcome. A persuasive essay typically follows a
specific format, starting with an introduction that grabs the reader's attention, followed by body
paragraphs that present arguments and evidence, and concluding with a strong summary of your
main points. Crafting a seamless flow between these sections while maintaining clarity and
cohesion requires both skill and attention to detail.
The persuasive aspect of the essay poses its own set of challenges. Balancing ethos, pathos, and
logos to appeal to the audience's emotions, credibility, and logic requires a nuanced approach. It
is not merely about expressing your opinion but also about understanding your audience's
perspectives and addressing potential objections.
Editing and revising are integral stages in the essay-writing process. Ensuring clarity, coherence,
and persuasiveness while eliminating unnecessary repetition or ambiguity can be time-
consuming. It often involves stepping back from your work to view it with a fresh perspective,
which can be both intellectually demanding and emotionally taxing.
In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay involves a multifaceted process that challenges the
writer to think critically, conduct thorough research, structure arguments effectively, and engage
with the audience persuasively. It is a task that demands time, effort, and a keen understanding
of rhetorical strategies. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any writing challenges,

The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells Essay
The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells
In the novel, The Rise of Silas Lapham, William Dean Howells makes a particular
point about the morals of an individual in the business world. His point is that an
individual, such as Silas, must check their morals at the door if they have any
plans to make it in the business world. The novel has always been popular, partly
because it presents Lapham s financial and social failure as consciously and
deliberately chosen when he has to decide whether he shall cheat and stay on top in
business or tell the truth and fail irrecoverably (Gibson 283). The Rise of Silas
Lapham is a novel that deals with the potential moral corruption of a man by money.
The outward signs of Silas Lapham s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously the pressures of big business would be much tougher to deal with in a
big city, like Boston, than in a small rural farm town, because the competition to be
the best is much greater in the urban areas. The time period in which the story is
set, the late 1800 s, is also a crucial part of the puzzle. All throughout the early 1800
s up until the present, big business has been on the rise. When large companies
started setting up in cities, people moved to where the jobs were, and soon small
towns became gigantic urban metropolises. The big business is what ultimately
causes Silas moral rise and financial fall, and that is a crucial part of the plot. If the
story where set in a different time period it would not have as big an impact. Also
during the late 1800 s, social standing was very important. In those days a person
was measured by their social standing, so it meant everything. The reason this is
important is because, interwoven in the main plot is a secondary plot. This
secondary plot has to do with the love triangle between Penelope Lapham, Irene
Lapham, and Tom Corey. Everyone seems to think that Tom and Irene are in love
with each other, while in actuality it is Tom and Penelope that are in love. This
secondary plot only adds to Silas and Mrs. Corey s inner struggles. If the story where
not set in this time period, the social impact on the plot would also not be as great.
Another aspect of the setting is the house that they currently
Decision Making Model
RUNNING HEAD: DECISION MAKING MODEL Decision Making Model MGT
350 University of Phoenix Abstract Decision making models can be very effective
in problem solving. Scheduling is a big problem at Direct HomeHealth Care and a
solution needed to be found. Scheduling software which can be very expensive was
the only conclusion that could be reached. With much thought and analysis a
resolution was reached with critical thought and a decision making model from the
Small Business Development Center. Decision making models can be very helpful
in analyzing a problem and setting up a step by step process to evaluate and come to
a favorable conclusion. Recently there has been a problem at my agency with

Training CDs were used by the schedulers to familiarize themselves with the new
program. They were able to take these CDs home and were paid for a total of five
hours of training. New computers were purchased for each office scheduler and
also for the on call scheduler. A networking system was set up with a router and
wireless networking software. Evaluation of the new program is the last step in
the decision making model. The program had to be evaluated to determine its
success in solving the problem. The program has proven to be very effective and
has resulted in a higher efficiency rate and higher patient satisfaction. The program
has also cut back considerably on the man power and time needed to accomplish
weekly payroll and billing. The conclusion is that this software has been a very
positive investment and there are no regrets as to purchasing and implementing
the program. A decision making process based on critical thought and data leads to
good decisions. Some decisions affect several people and some only a few. The
scheduling decision at Direct HomeHealth Care involved several people and was
not to be taken lightly. The decision making model from the Small Business
Development Center is a very effective tool in decision making and breaks the
process down into several steps which can be utilized by any business to assist with
difficult choices. References Small business development center: decision making

Kushite Kingdom. Pyramids of Meroe
The Kingdom of Kush with its three major cities of Meroe, Kerma, and Napata,
emerged in the Nubian Desert south of Egypt along the Upper Nile River Valley from
the 2000 B.C. to the fourth century A.D. Archaeology, architecture, art, and burials
provide the most information about the Kushite Kingdom. While the Kushites had a
written language based on the Egyptian hieroglyphics, scholars have only begun to
decipher the language and the existing texts.
The location of the kingdom along the Nile River provided strategic communication
and trade routes both within the kingdom and throughout northeastern Africa.
Kushites also farmed the Nile River valley, relying on irrigation systems and
rainfall in some areas. The Kushites also mined minerals and high quality stone for
trade and introduced and developed iron metallurgy to the region. This region of
Africa also produced more gold than anywhere in the world at that time. An
archeological site near the present day village of Hosh el Guruf in Sudan, dating to

As middlemen, Kushite traders passed along ivory, ebony, incense, and other exotic
goods from the South to the Egyptians who then traded with other Mediterranean
peoples. The city of Kerma, with its strategic location on the Nile River, controlled
the trade route between the lands farther south of Kush and Egypt in the north. The
role of Kush as a trade middleman influenced the relationship between Egypt and
Kush. Egypt actively sought to expand their empire as well as control the trade routes

Virgil s Duty In The Aeneid
Intro Begin by talking about how people often see Aeneid by Virgil as focusing on
the events surrounding the Trojan war, but an equally important part of the story is
the prevalent theme of duty. For instance, if one looks at Aeneas one can see his
devotion towards caring for his people, and his persistence to follow his duty.
Because of the emphasize that Virgilplaces on Aeneasdevotion to his people and his
duty to obey the gods, one can begin to theorize that Virgil believed duty was the
most important quality a man could possess. Thesis: Often times, the Aeneidcarries
the reputation as a book centering around the founding of Rome, however, without
the constant reminder of duty, one cannot fully view Virgil s story as he intended.

In book two, Aeneas remains to fight despite clear indications from the gods that it
is better to escape and carry on the Trojan race. However, Aeneas is overcome by
the Homeric notions of duty and honor. Virgil purposely does this to show that while
Aeneas acted only with a view to the narrow Homeric concept, he grows later to fully
understand his duty (Mudlo).
2.Topic sentence: (value of duty) Additionally, by inspecting the times that Virgil
purposely points out, to the reader, when Aeneas displays duty, one can better
understand the significance to which Virgil places on duty. *writers note unsure if
this idea will work. Alternate idea is to discuss how Aeneas duty influences that way
we see him or how his devotion affects other characters.
a.(Aeneas): I am Aeneas, duty bound, and known Above high air of heaven by my
fame, Carrying with me in my ships our gods Of hearth and home, saved from the
enemy. I look for Italy to be my fatherland, And my descent is from all highest Jove.

Nonverbal Communication Skills
Nonverbal listening and communication skills are a very important part of daily
interactions, and the exercise I m reporting on demonstrates the many reasons why in
a practical and effective manner. The exercise required me to have a one on one
conversation with an individual whom I am comfortable with, and whom I am less
comfortable with. During these conversations I made use of active listening while
taking mental notes I can analyze subsequently after ending both interactions.
Additionally, I intended for each conversation to last for at least fifteen minutes. The
ultimate objective of this exercise is to identify my weak points and constructively
improve myself in anticipation of further interactions. My brothers are the two
individuals who, unknowingly, assisted me in gathering the appropriate material and
feedback for this assignment. The conversations that I had with them have been able
to help me identify the nonverbal communicationskills I did not know I have, and
recognize what I need to do to improve.
My first partner in conversation is someone who easily makes me feel comfortable,
my younger brother. Since the both of us are comfortable together, the conversation
was able to exceed my goal of fifteen minutes. I also made sure that the conversation
was something that we both enjoyed, which pertained to various topics of art. During
our conversation I noticed that we both we were mostly maintaining a friendly
amount of eye contact, which ranges of holds from five
The Color Purple Analysis
Thinking Ahead of Her Times
Treating women properly with dignity and respect has commonly been an issue
because it has been a constant struggle for them to gain it throughout history. This
controversy goes way back to the early twentieth century and in The Color Purple
by Alice Walker, we clearly see how women are not given the respect or dignity they
deserve. Although people seem to not recognize it as a problem, this issue must be
addressed. In The Color Purple one definitely sees how Celie represents a repressed
woman and how she learns to fight back over time to overcome her struggles in life.
In The Color Purple, Celie a young black girl who lived in Georgia was very bright
and wrote countless letters to God. These letters contained horrid experiences Celie
went through. She was constantly subjected to abuse and told she was ugly. So
these letters became an outlet for her to cope with her situation. The letters also
show how Celie has pulled through numerous struggles she endured starting from
the age of 14 and ending up into her mid forties. Although Celie has her doubt that
God even takes her concerns into consideration, these letters serve as a type of
therapy to help her ease her suffering. Having gone through countless unbelievable
troubles, Celie feels she can express her private thoughts and feelings freely. Celie
knows that Nettie, her dear sister is not receiving the letters as Mr. _____ hides them
from Nettie so that she cannot receive them.

Ancient Egypt And The Egyptian Empire
Have you ever wondered how Ancient Egypt helped shape the world today? Ancient
Egyptians were a group of folks who were heavily influenced by religion. They
feared dying anywhere but Egypt. The Egyptian Empire held a fascinating and very
distinctive culture. Being one of the world s most advanced cultures and creating tons
of wealth is what separated them from everybody else. Between the outstanding
artwork, teaching methods, and amazing pyramids is what helped their society
advance altogether. No other civilization of the ancient world history had such a
popular appeal and none as important as human society and its organization.
Egyptianshave made great steps in shaping the world we all know today, which have
made studying their culture and society easier than some previous historical eras.
First and foremost, Ancient Egypt was structured in the form of a pyramid. The top
of the pyramid of course was the gods. These gods included Ra, Osiris, and Iris, and
according to the people of Egypt, these gods controlled almost the entire earth.
Leaders in Egypt were called pharaohs so they were believed to be Gods in human
form which is amazing. The ruler in status were powerful nobles and priests. Only
nobles could hold government posts and in those positions they profited from
tributes paid to the pharaoh. Priests were responsible for pleasing the gods. While
soldiers fought in wars or quelled domestic uprisings. When there was no war to
fight, the soldiers supervised
Levitt And Dubner Incentives
Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner s world view that incentives are the cornerstone
of modern life (Levitt, 12) is a view that I completely agree with. I also believe that,
after reading, that this is the key idea to this book. Greed, love, and happiness,
along with many others, can all be incentives. Levitt and Dubner show this by
expressing that business, whether a street gang or McDonalds, is like a
tournament. They express that everyone wants to succeed in an extremely
competitive field in which, if you reach the top, you are paid a fortune (Levitt,
102). You can see the tournament as a pyramid, where the bottom is fighting their
way to the top. Levitt and Dubner use the example of a crack gang. At the bottom
of the pyramid, the members each make $3.30 an hour, while risking not only
prison, but their life. Whereas the leaders would be making up to 68 thousand
dollars a month. The rules of the tournament are that you have to start at the bottom
to make it to the top, you have to be willing, and you have to prove yourself to be
above average (Levitt, 104). The incentive is clear: to win the tournament and make
the most money. This example complements my world view, where incentives are the
backbone of choices. Incentives can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe the most important point that it addresses is how critical it is to know
what to measure, or evaluate, in any given situation. To some people, this is simply
a sixth sense, but to some it is impossible. This is expressed by Levitt and Dubner
from front to back of this book. Between cheating teachers to the effect of names,
they continuously use data to prove their points. The best proof that knowing what to
measure can make a difference is seen in their theory on abortion leading to crime
drops. Experts and newspapers were continuously pointing in the wrong directions
because they simply did not know what to
Family Themes In Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Theme: Family Mark Twain s The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classical novel that contains numerous themes
and ideas. Alongside the themes of freedom, race, rules, religion, and deceit lies
the most important theme throughout the entire story; family. Throughout the
novel, Huckleberry Finn battles with whether or not family supports and builds
you up or if it orders you around and tears down your ambitions. One quote that
perfectly describes this concept was spoken by Aishwarya Rai Bachan who stated
that, my family is my strength and my weakness. (Bachan 1). Family is a theme
that constantly emerges in Huckleberry Finn, one that is constantly getting re
defined: from the Shepherdson and Grangerford feud, to Huck living with Miss
Watson and Widow Douglas, to Huck discovering a father figure in Jim. The
Shepherdson and Grangerford feud altered Huck s perspective about the definition
of family. Huck s first interaction with the Grangerfords gives him the impression
that Widow Douglas assessment of the Col. and his family were correct. The
Grangerfords were kind, caring, wealthy and well respected. They are very
hospitable towards Huck. Despite owning hundreds of slaves and servants the
Grangerfords are practically a perfect family, especially for this time period.
However, when Buck talks about the feud it changes his perspective. Well, says
Buck, a feud is this way: A man has a quarrel with another man, and kills him; then
that

which Polk was for the idea versus Clay who opposed the idea. Clay opposing the
idea led Polk to victory. Many problems had occurred with the state of Texas. Texans
thought it would be best to interest security and economic stability to petition to the
United States for annexation. In 1837 at the time President Martin Van Buren was
against the idea of having Texas annexed because of concerns that it would become
another slave state in the United States. Another reason why he did not want to
annex Texas was because he did not want to start any problems with Mexico. Things
changed in 1843 when President James Tyler examined the annexation issue again. A
treaty was sent to Senate but because of anti expansionist the treaty was denied.
When Polk became president he too was in favor of having Texas annexed

experience in air travel, motor vehicles and general consumer goods. A major factor
in the design of noise control systems is the materials being used, producing the best
results requires the use of the most appropriate materials, and this in turn necessitates
empirical values for how a substance affects the behaviour of sound.
These values are commonly established using an impedance tube, of which there are
several variations, made up of a set of base components. The bare minimum required
for an impedance tube to function is a speaker and signal generator to produce a
soundwave, a tube within which the material is tested, a mount for the material being
tested generally with a hard backing, and a sensor within the tube to take readings.
Most tubes contain additional equipment and have strictly controlled dimensions and
materials to maximise their efficacy and the accuracy of the readings. Dynamic
microphone variation
The variation constructed in this report is a standing wave with a dynamic
microphone with design specifications established in ASTM C384.5970. This consist
of a straight tube with a loudspeaker mounted at one end, the tube can be rectangular
or cylindrical but must be uniform along its length. The pipe material must be hard
and rigid so that sounds are likely to
Reasons For Legalization Of Prostitution
The legalization of prostitution has been a debatable topic over the years. There are
differing viewpoints on the reasons for legalizing prostitution as well as the causes
of legalizing prostitution. In the majority of the world today, there is a high level of
demand for prostitutes as well as the services they render. Because prostitutes are
exposed to a bacterial cornucopia of sexually transmitted diseases, many of them
often contract a wide variety of these diseases. Many prostitutes are abused each year.
However, because these prostitutes usually fear law enforcement, most of this
systemic abuse goes unreported (Wurth et al. par. 2). Prostitutionproduces an
abundance of money that is never taxed, yet this untapped tax revenue could produce
economic growth for states that legalize prostitution. However, legalizing prostitution
has the potential to create a safe, controlled environment that would benefit not only
the prostitute, but it would benefit society as well. Making prostitution illegal creates
an uncontrolled environment which does not require prostitutes to use protection. If
prostitution remains illegal, then it will continue to be less likely that prostitutes will
use protection. According to the journal of the international AIDS society, 11.8%
pooled HIV prevalence among female workers in 50 countries (Wurth el al. par. 1).
These numbers could decrease if the prostitution occurred in a controlled
environment. In Nevada, this strategy can be seen in

Industrialization Of The Industrial Revolution
The industrial revolution began in the 1700s and was the time when Europe and
America became urbanised and industrial. Many people living in the countryside
moved to the towns and cities where they could find more available jobs due to the
development of machinery in the industries. These industries continued to expand
due to the mass production of energy sources and raw materials. This increased the
production of resources such as cotton and created a new era filled with
technology. People who lived in the countryside and could not find jobs or afford
food, moved to the urban areas where they were able to live comfortably and
provide for their families. However, as rapid urbanisation occurred and the
population in Britain increased dramatically, newcomers found that the available
jobs gave little pay, therefore everyone in the family had to work hard. The
government then decided to make child labour a compulsory system in all towns.
In 1750, children from the age of 8 were forced to work in many industries such as
iron, textiles, cotton and colliery. There was a higher percentage of working young
children than teenagers and adults (86% of the workers in factories were under 14
years old and 14% were over ) as they were easier to train and manage, their small
physique helped them fit into small spaces, and the government was able to pay
them a minimum wage of 3 4 pence (less than 10 cents) a day. Many workers were
orphans and did not get paid at all, the owners of the

Android application in this prototype system is a simple native android app. Though
it needs the internet for data communication, the trivial web view approach is not

Using the Retrofit library, android app sends HTTP request to the API server for
pulling and pushing the device state changes. The received data is in JSON format.
So, for making it usable in the app, GSONConverter is used which maps the data into

C.Interaction among the section
1)Switch Arduino API Server:
As stated earlier, two Arduinos has been used here. Both of them talks to each other
through i/o pins like flags. One of these Arduino s only task is to maintain the
communication with the API server. It has a function which have a hardcoded URL
to fetch device states using API server. And another function to send the latest
changes on the database through API server whenever a change is happened is
switch state. None of this API calls gets through the authentication system of the API
server as the route and corresponding variables are static. For internet connection in
the Arduino, the WizFi module is used. It provides Wi Fi access to the Arduino.
The only drawback in the current project comes from this module. The flow of
switching a device state from Arduino s point of view would be like the following
description. User presses the switch. Arduino (A1) receives the signal and changes
both relay states and out flag for change to another Arduino (A2).
To Kill A Mockingbird Urban Legends
Urban Legends
Legend says that if someone says the name Bloody Mary three times into a mirror,
that she will magically appear in the room and scratch their face off. Of course this
legend is not true, but people would tell this story and through fear, make others
believe that it was. Urban legends such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930
s, around the same time where the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was
set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo Radley, a character in
the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. They spread rumors
about him and say many crazy things that people would not normally believe.
However, since the people are so scared of Boo Radley, they do. From the 1930 s...

In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they
create an urban legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody
knows if these legends are true or not but most people believe it because it gives
people a sense of fulfillment to have an explanation for everything. In To Kill A
Mockingbird however, everything that could not be explained was pinned on Boo
Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo Radley so the
children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a
half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he
could catch, that s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became
fixated on Boo Radley, mainly because the adults never spoke about him, so they
created all of these rumors about him and whenever anything crazy happened, it
always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of the book when Scout
meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard about
him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus
replies by telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee
376). Even though people use urban legends to explain things, that does not mean that
the legends are necessarily true. If people actually searched for the truth behind these
legends instead of falling back on

Frankly, the whole exchange of dialogue is exhausting and I have given in more
times than I d like to. I m sure that the lack of a Parenting Manual is not the reason
for school uniform codes, but in my household uniforms certainly would make
mornings easier. School uniforms have a multitude of rewards and benefits for both
the parent and child and should be implemented in all elementary schools. The
rewards and benefits far outweigh any negative connotations that opposing adults
have. These benefits include: reduced headache and stress in the morning, reduced
expense of clothing, increased focus on academics in the classroom, increased
building of team spirit among classmates, and the, for lack of a better word, non
discrimination on the popularity poll. I ll begin with exploring the morning ritual and
the reward a uniform has on this process. Critics opposed to uniforms would say the
solution to the miserable morning is to lay the clothes out at night, hence avoiding
such conflicts. This idea sounds good at the outset; however, it just creates conflicts
at bedtime so I haven t seen the advantages or solution to this nighttime ritual. On the
other hand, the uniform idea poses some great alternatives; first the choices are

Analysis of The Histroy and Topography of Ireland by...
For Gerald of Wales, religion was one of the most essential aspects of being a
civilized human being. Therefore, when he wrote, The History and Topography of
Ireland, he portrayed its inhabitants as subhuman and barbaric during his apparent
travels to Ireland. As a colonizer, Gerald picked a far away place in which many
had not been to, in order to establish them as the other . Unfortunately, for Gerald,
he may have ridiculed the Irish for their lifestyle conveyed in his writing, but his
exploitation of them most likely was done because he could in fact relate to them.
In the book, The Postcolonial Middle Ages, Jeffery Jerome Cohen s analysis in his
chapter, Hybrids, Monsters, Borderlands: The Bodies of Gerald of Wales, closely

Although, when explaining how the half man half ox came to be, the man having
relations with the ox was not subject to dishonor, but instead it was said to just be a
particular vice of that people (74). Here, Gerald suggests that although it was a man
that acted dishonorably something beautiful came out of it, while the children of the
bestial women are not spoken of most likely because they were so wretched. Gerald
seems to be relating cultural hybridity to the act of interspecies crossbreeding,
ultimately allowing the reader to relate it to filth. By showing different forms of
miscegenation, Gerald makes each variation seem negative to his readers, which
makes Ireland as a whole look like a place for hybrid mongrels .
On one hand, Gerald may be ashamed of his own biological makeup, because of
his parent s filthy urges but, on the other hand, he still holds some confidence in the
fact that because he is more involved with his Christianity, he could not possibly
make the same ghastly choices that his parents and supposedly the Irish appeared
to. He uses the Irish his book to make an example out of anyone involved in
hybridity. According to Gerald, the Irish are ignorant of the rudiments of the Faith
and do not attend God s church with due reverence , but instead he repeatedly
accuses them of incestuous relations and have yet to pay tithes or first fruit or
contract marriages (106). He is upset with the Irish because he

Student Answer: The case study provides examples of all of the organizational
culture types. Mr. Marchionne took advantage of the adhocracy culture by shaking
things up at the firm and moving the firm away from its old ways that forced it
into bankruptcy (Kreitner Kinicki, 2013, p. 70, 86). The fact that Chief Executive
Sergio Marchionne fired executives and made employees interview to keep their
job is an example of the competitive nature of the market culture (p. 70, 86). He has
also created an element of fear in the company (p. 86).Mr. Marchionne displayed
characteristics of the clan culture by setting up his office with the engineers instead
of in the separate executive tower (Kreitner Kinicki, 2013, p. 68 69, 86). He used

Chromium Plating Research Paper
Due to the industrial restrictions in place across some the main areas of the world
under health and safety regulations, finding an alternative plating process to the
current hexavalent chromium process has become a real necessity. Trivalent
chromium has proved to be a suitable replacement due to being less toxic, both health
wise and environmentally, whilst also demonstrating almost identical metalfinishes to
those of the hexavalent chromiumdeposits. However, the trivalent chromium chemical
process is not without its difficulties, such as the inertness of the Cr3+ ions to be
reduced to their metallic state, or the initial inferiority of the metal deposits physical
properties in comparison to the deposits attained from conventional techniques. In
order to overcome these issues multiple approaches have been investigated.
It has been found that the use of complexing agents in the trivalent chromium
electrolyte solution work to generate stable complexes with Cr3+ through ligand
exchange which are then easily reducible to metallic chromium. Not only does this
now allow chromium deposition to take place, but it also improves the current
efficiency of the electrodeposit. The process of co depositing chromium as an alloy
with other metals has shown to enhance the physical and chemical properties of the
metal as opposed to individual electrodepositions; an ability that is unattainable for
hexavalent chromium, giving an immediate advantage. In addition, the outcome of

The purpose or goal described in the Penn Mart memo is a program engineered to
lower employee benefit costs paid by the company. The method of attaining this
outcome would be to implement a mandatory Get Well employee healthscreening and

health benefit program is to institute a multi prong monitoring program would include
biometric screening described as finger stick blood tests for cholesterol and glucose;
weight, height, and waist measurement; and a blood pressure reading as well as
required health questionnaire and annual physical examinations.

Life Poem Analysis
The author Paul Laurence Dunbar wants the readers to acknowledge how he uses
concrete and abstract in his poem called Life . Throughout his poem he uses
concrete to make us feel how sadness takes over happiness most of the time,
another strategy the author uses is abstract he uses it in a deep matter, he makes
you think something that isn t normal that you can t visualize, he uses it a lot but
also combines it with concrete as well. As a matter a fact this connects with
something about my personal point of view so far because I also feel that I can t
enjoy life as much as I would want but there s always another bad side and it s the
problems that make you fall in depression and other stuff that has to do with
sadness. However in the poem Life the writer expresses his poem by using concrete
and abstract images, he tells us how life is too ironic to fully understand how you
truly feel, but in his perspective sadness lasts more than being happy as well.
In other words the author uses concrete to express how in the poem Life you can
feel sadness and can imagine it, during the poem he mentioned with a smile to
warm and the tears to refresh us this was an example of concrete when the author
said a smile to warm you can actually feel a smile you can actually feel when you re
warm, it also goes with the same thing when it says and the tears to refresh us you
can feel when you cry also feel the tears like it s refreshing your face as saying
happiness gets erased by the tears when you re getting refreshed. Another well done
example the author used is when he said in his poem A pintof joy to a peck of trouble
the author basically just mentioned how a pint of joy goes by so fast and when
trouble comes, it comes in a matter of seconds and sometimes it can happen keep
happening instantly, therefore it s concrete because you can feel the pint of joy
where you actually feel the happiness but then he said peck means your conflicts
start showing up rapidly. Additionally, he used the same strategy when author said
And never a laugh, but the moans come double; this one is pretty straightforward
when he said And never a laugh you know when you laugh you feel the happiness.
However, if you laugh it s
How Is Twilight Related To Gothic Literature
Twilight, written by Stephenie Meyer was the first part of a four book series that
begun in 2005. The story begins with a girl and a vampire falling in love, and was
the first series in a while to bring vampires back into the lime light. The girl,
Elisabeth Bella Swan and the vampire Edward Cullen, have a complicated love that
although they are destined to be together, everything is working against them to do
otherwise. Throughout the work of literature, although it is a modern day love story,
Twilightdisplays many gothic characteristics in its writing including the plot and the
role of the woman character throughout the story. Just like any other supernatural
creatures, vampires originated from literature. Vampire s were first seen... Show more

In Twilight, although there are some instances where vampires hunt humans for
food, the vampires in this story do not. The natural instinct of vampires is to feed
on human blood, in which case, in Twilight the vampires have red eyes. Those
which wish to be peaceful and allow humans to live amongst them, like the Cullen
s family who Edward is part of, have golden brown eyes. When it is time for
Edward to feed, his eyes turn a darker and darker brown color and become light
once his hunger is quenched by not humans, but by animals. This is also seen in
another piece of literature when the Countess from The Lady of the House of Love.
She attempts to quench her thirst for blood by feeding on rabbits, although this
situation is different, the rabbits hold her over until she is able to get her hands on a

Different Hues of Darkness
At first glance, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allen Poe may appear as though
they are two birds of a feather. Their stories are often dark and dismal, and an
enduring despair runs through the tales as a common thread. However, their
inspirations originate from opposite ends of the spectrum. Hawthorne s works are the
offspring of legalistic Puritan values and beliefs; on the other hand, Poe s stories
reflect godlessness. While the characters of both authors often face a grim
destination, the writers show through their unique styles that the path to hopelessness
can take many different routes.
These contrasting motivations first surface in the authors tones. Hawthorne s solemn
words hearken to the Puritan mantra of stringent moral standards and the belief of a
wicked world. In Young Goodman Brown, the protagonist learns about the evil
concealed in the hearts of people he reveres. In the same way Brown s exposure
robs him of hope and joy, Hawthorne s themes of evil s pervasiveness rob his stories
of optimism. His disheartening opinion of humanity s state echoes Puritan beliefs,
and because of the prevalence of this belief in his stories, his tales are melancholy by
necessity. In contrast to the stern Puritan perspective, Poe s tone most resembles
Gothic Romanticism. Eerie settings such as the abbey in Ligeia exemplify this
melancholy style. Poe describes the abbey as having gloomy and
How Pop Culture Has Impacted The Smarts Of Our
Country
Pop culture has been seen in the past to be a main ingredient in making our country
s I.Q. drop, or well, that the overall population is going to become dumber because
of its rise. However, Malcolm Gladwell has felt differently, and decided to produce
an article on how pop culture has effected the smarts of our country. In Malcolm
Gladwell s article Brain Candy , Gladwell effectively uses rhetorical appeals to
prove his argument. Throughout Gladwell s article he uses logical appeals to help
prove his argument. One way that Gladwell validates his argument is by providing
a thesis for the audience to follow. His thesis statement being placed at the end of
the first paragraph is clearly displaying to the audience of what is to come out of
the rest of his article, and what his stance is on the topic. Gladwell quotes Steven
Johnson, saying that he proposes what we thought was making us dumber: pop
culture (1). By Gladwell using this as his thesis he is informing us that his article
is going to go into how pop culture was seen to make us dumber, but that there is
proof that it has done just the opposite. Gladwell also uses the logical appeal of
scientific facts to back up his argument. Gladwell used scientific data to help prove
his argument to be true. In the article Brain Candy , Gladwell s use of his thesis,
the thesis placement, as well as how he used scientific data for back up, shows that
Gladwell was doing a good job of using logical appeals to help prove his stance
North By Northwest And Vertigo Analysis
How auteur theory can be applied to the study of Hitchcock s North by Northwest
and Vertigo I will talk about how auteur theory can be applied to the study of
Hitchcock s North by Northwest and vertigo. The term Auteur theory is the theory
which states An auteur is a singular artist who controls all aspects of a collaborative
creative work, a person equivalent to the author of a novel or a play. The term is
commonly referenced to filmmakers or directors with a recognizable style or
thematic preoccupation. What makes Hitchcock an Auteur is that he uses styles
in his films in which in that if it was found in another movie the watchers would in
a split second realize that he made it since he generally adheres to his one of a kind
styles. I believe Hitchcock applied the study of auteur theory to his films (North by
Northwest and Vertigo, as there are many aspects and ideas the make it proof that
Hitchcock added these ideas himself. Hitchcock added many scenes of staircases in
his film North by Northwest as he believed it creates a sense of suspense for the
characters and the audience. This idea which he used in the film was brought from
his childhood where as a young child he lived in a very big house which lots of
staircases came along with it, from there he feared the stairs as it is the fear of the
unknown, this applied to his film worked very well. His specialized mastery is
obvious in his photos. Camera work, altering and in addition music and sound was
every one of his
Assessing Standardized Tests in the United States
Imagine a test capable of making or breaking a student s chances of getting into his
or her dream college. Imagine a test score that can be easily influenced, but only
through thousands of dollars worth of coaching. Now imagine that same test but
biased towards certain crowds of students while also being incapable of accurately
predicting their futures. Is this the test you want for colleges to use in order to
distinguish students? This is the SATfamous for the unnecessary pressure it presents
to students as well as the unfair disadvantages it presents to many others. Since these
SAT scores are extremely artificial, SAT tests are not an accurate predictor for future
success.
SAT scores are inconsistent since they are directly correlated with average family
income. Studies show that the average SAT score for students (out of 2400) in
families earning up to $20,000 is 1326, whereas students in families earning over
$200,000 receive an average score of 1714. This discrepancy is likely caused by
unequal test preparation. Those with an average income of less than $20,000 tend to
be families that cannot afford proper coaching, but those earning over $200,000 can
afford as much coaching as they want. In other words, wealthier students are able to
surpass the poorer students through gaming the system bringing their score up
hundreds of points through hundreds of dollars worth of private college counseling
as well as through hefty amounts of practice tests. This also means that if

Pursuasive Essay

  • 1. Pursuasive Essay Crafting a persuasive essay can be a challenging endeavor that requires a combination of critical thinking, eloquent expression, and effective persuasion. The difficulty lies not only in presenting your viewpoint convincingly but also in anticipating and addressing opposing arguments. It demands meticulous research to support your claims and a deep understanding of the audience to tailor your message appropriately. The process begins with selecting a compelling topic, one that not only captures your interest but also resonates with your audience. Once the topic is chosen, extensive research becomes essential. This involves delving into various sources, ranging from scholarly articles to real-world examples, to gather evidence that fortifies your stance. The challenge lies in distinguishing reliable information from biased sources and synthesizing it into a coherent argument. Structuring the essay is another hurdle to overcome. A persuasive essay typically follows a specific format, starting with an introduction that grabs the reader's attention, followed by body paragraphs that present arguments and evidence, and concluding with a strong summary of your main points. Crafting a seamless flow between these sections while maintaining clarity and cohesion requires both skill and attention to detail. The persuasive aspect of the essay poses its own set of challenges. Balancing ethos, pathos, and logos to appeal to the audience's emotions, credibility, and logic requires a nuanced approach. It is not merely about expressing your opinion but also about understanding your audience's perspectives and addressing potential objections. Editing and revising are integral stages in the essay-writing process. Ensuring clarity, coherence, and persuasiveness while eliminating unnecessary repetition or ambiguity can be time- consuming. It often involves stepping back from your work to view it with a fresh perspective, which can be both intellectually demanding and emotionally taxing. In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay involves a multifaceted process that challenges the writer to think critically, conduct thorough research, structure arguments effectively, and engage with the audience persuasively. It is a task that demands time, effort, and a keen understanding of rhetorical strategies. • 2. The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells Essay The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells In the novel, The Rise of Silas Lapham, William Dean Howells makes a particular point about the morals of an individual in the business world. His point is that an individual, such as Silas, must check their morals at the door if they have any plans to make it in the business world. The novel has always been popular, partly because it presents Lapham s financial and social failure as consciously and deliberately chosen when he has to decide whether he shall cheat and stay on top in business or tell the truth and fail irrecoverably (Gibson 283). The Rise of Silas Lapham is a novel that deals with the potential moral corruption of a man by money. The outward signs of Silas Lapham s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously the pressures of big business would be much tougher to deal with in a big city, like Boston, than in a small rural farm town, because the competition to be the best is much greater in the urban areas. The time period in which the story is set, the late 1800 s, is also a crucial part of the puzzle. All throughout the early 1800 s up until the present, big business has been on the rise. When large companies started setting up in cities, people moved to where the jobs were, and soon small towns became gigantic urban metropolises. The big business is what ultimately causes Silas moral rise and financial fall, and that is a crucial part of the plot. If the story where set in a different time period it would not have as big an impact. Also during the late 1800 s, social standing was very important. In those days a person was measured by their social standing, so it meant everything. The reason this is important is because, interwoven in the main plot is a secondary plot. This secondary plot has to do with the love triangle between Penelope Lapham, Irene Lapham, and Tom Corey. Everyone seems to think that Tom and Irene are in love with each other, while in actuality it is Tom and Penelope that are in love. This secondary plot only adds to Silas and Mrs. Corey s inner struggles. If the story where not set in this time period, the social impact on the plot would also not be as great. Another aspect of the setting is the house that they currently

Scheduling is a big problem at Direct HomeHealth Care and a solution needed to be found. Scheduling software which can be very expensive was the only conclusion that could be reached. With much thought and analysis a resolution was reached with critical thought and a decision making model from the Small Business Development Center. Decision making models can be very helpful in analyzing a problem and setting up a step by step process to evaluate and come to a favorable conclusion. Recently there has been a problem at my agency with scheduling and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Training CDs were used by the schedulers to familiarize themselves with the new program. They were able to take these CDs home and were paid for a total of five hours of training. New computers were purchased for each office scheduler and also for the on call scheduler. A networking system was set up with a router and wireless networking software. Evaluation of the new program is the last step in the decision making model. The program had to be evaluated to determine its success in solving the problem. The program has proven to be very effective and has resulted in a higher efficiency rate and higher patient satisfaction. The program has also cut back considerably on the man power and time needed to accomplish weekly payroll and billing. The conclusion is that this software has been a very positive investment and there are no regrets as to purchasing and implementing the program. A decision making process based on critical thought and data leads to good decisions. Some decisions affect several people and some only a few. The scheduling decision at Direct HomeHealth Care involved several people and was not to be taken lightly. The decision making model from the Small Business Development Center is a very effective tool in decision making and breaks the process down into several steps which can be utilized by any business to assist with difficult choices. Pyramids of Meroe The Kingdom of Kush with its three major cities of Meroe, Kerma, and Napata, emerged in the Nubian Desert south of Egypt along the Upper Nile River Valley from the 2000 B.C. to the fourth century A.D. Archaeology, architecture, art, and burials provide the most information about the Kushite Kingdom. While the Kushites had a written language based on the Egyptian hieroglyphics, scholars have only begun to decipher the language and the existing texts. The location of the kingdom along the Nile River provided strategic communication and trade routes both within the kingdom and throughout northeastern Africa. Kushites also farmed the Nile River valley, relying on irrigation systems and rainfall in some areas. The Kushites also mined minerals and high quality stone for trade and introduced and developed iron metallurgy to the region. Virgil s Duty In The Aeneid Intro Begin by talking about how people often see Aeneid by Virgil as focusing on the events surrounding the Trojan war, but an equally important part of the story is the prevalent theme of duty. For instance, if one looks at Aeneas one can see his devotion towards caring for his people, and his persistence to follow his duty. Because of the emphasize that Virgilplaces on Aeneasdevotion to his people and his duty to obey the gods, one can begin to theorize that Virgil believed duty was the most important quality a man could possess. Thesis: Often times, the Aeneidcarries the reputation as a book centering around the founding of Rome, however, without the constant reminder of duty, one cannot fully view Virgil s story as he intended. 1.Topic ... However, Aeneas is overcome by the Homeric notions of duty and honor. Virgil purposely does this to show that while Aeneas acted only with a view to the narrow Homeric concept, he grows later to fully understand his duty (Mudlo). 2.Topic sentence: (value of duty) Additionally, by inspecting the times that Virgil purposely points out, to the reader, when Aeneas displays duty, one can better understand the significance to which Virgil places on duty. *writers note unsure if this idea will work. This controversy goes way back to the early twentieth century and in The Color Purple by Alice Walker, we clearly see how women are not given the respect or dignity they deserve. Although people seem to not recognize it as a problem, this issue must be addressed. In The Color Purple one definitely sees how Celie represents a repressed woman and how she learns to fight back over time to overcome her struggles in life. In The Color Purple, Celie a young black girl who lived in Georgia was very bright and wrote countless letters to God. These letters contained horrid experiences Celie went through. She was constantly subjected to abuse and told she was ugly. So these letters became an outlet for her to cope with her situation. The letters also show how Celie has pulled through numerous struggles she endured starting from the age of 14 and ending up into her mid forties. Although Celie has her doubt that God even takes her concerns into consideration, these letters serve as a type of therapy to help her ease her suffering. Having gone through countless unbelievable troubles, Celie feels she can express her private thoughts and feelings freely. They feared dying anywhere but Egypt. The Egyptian Empire held a fascinating and very distinctive culture. Being one of the world s most advanced cultures and creating tons of wealth is what separated them from everybody else. Between the outstanding artwork, teaching methods, and amazing pyramids is what helped their society advance altogether. No other civilization of the ancient world history had such a popular appeal and none as important as human society and its organization. Egyptianshave made great steps in shaping the world we all know today, which have made studying their culture and society easier than some previous historical eras. First and foremost, Ancient Egypt was structured in the form of a pyramid. The top of the pyramid of course was the gods. These gods included Ra, Osiris, and Iris, and according to the people of Egypt, these gods controlled almost the entire earth. Leaders in Egypt were called pharaohs so they were believed to be Gods in human form which is amazing. The ruler in status were powerful nobles and priests. I also believe that, after reading, that this is the key idea to this book. Greed, love, and happiness, along with many others, can all be incentives. Levitt and Dubner show this by expressing that business, whether a street gang or McDonalds, is like a tournament. They express that everyone wants to succeed in an extremely competitive field in which, if you reach the top, you are paid a fortune (Levitt, 102). You can see the tournament as a pyramid, where the bottom is fighting their way to the top. Levitt and Dubner use the example of a crack gang. At the bottom of the pyramid, the members each make $3.30 an hour, while risking not only prison, but their life. Whereas the leaders would be making up to 68 thousand dollars a month. The rules of the tournament are that you have to start at the bottom to make it to the top, you have to be willing, and you have to prove yourself to be above average (Levitt, 104). The incentive is clear: to win the tournament and make the most money. This example complements my world view, where incentives are the backbone of choices. Incentives can... Experts and newspapers were continuously pointing in the wrong directions because they simply did not know what to

Family Themes In Huckleberry Finn The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Theme: Family Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classical novel that contains numerous themes and ideas. Alongside the themes of freedom, race, rules, religion, and deceit lies the most important theme throughout the entire story; family. Throughout the novel, Huckleberry Finn battles with whether or not family supports and builds you up or if it orders you around and tears down your ambitions. One quote that perfectly describes this concept was spoken by Aishwarya Rai Bachan who stated that, my family is my strength and my weakness. (Bachan 1). Family is a theme that constantly emerges in Huckleberry Finn, one that is constantly getting re defined: from the Shepherdson and Grangerford feud, to Huck living with Miss Watson and Widow Douglas, to Huck discovering a father figure in Jim. The Shepherdson and Grangerford feud altered Huck s perspective about the definition of family. Huck s first interaction with the Grangerfords gives him the impression that Widow Douglas assessment of the Col. and his family were correct. The Grangerfords were kind, caring, wealthy and well respected. They are very hospitable towards Huck. Despite owning hundreds of slaves and servants the Grangerfords are practically a perfect family, especially for this time period. However, when Buck talks about the feud it changes his perspective. Well, says Buck, a feud is this way: A man has a quarrel with another man, and kills him; then that

General Description Of Noise Control Systems Literature review General description Noise control is an engineering problem that can be found in almost every field of industry maintaining safe noise levels in industry to ensuring a comfortable experience in air travel, motor vehicles and general consumer goods. A major factor in the design of noise control systems is the materials being used, producing the best results requires the use of the most appropriate materials, and this in turn necessitates empirical values for how a substance affects the behaviour of sound. These values are commonly established using an impedance tube, of which there are several variations, made up of a set of base components. The bare minimum required for an impedance tube to function is a speaker and signal generator to produce a soundwave, a tube within which the material is tested, a mount for the material being tested generally with a hard backing, and a sensor within the tube to take readings. Most tubes contain additional equipment and have strictly controlled dimensions and materials to maximise their efficacy and the accuracy of the readings. Dynamic microphone variation The variation constructed in this report is a standing wave with a dynamic microphone with design specifications established in ASTM C384.5970. There are differing viewpoints on the reasons for legalizing prostitution as well as the causes of legalizing prostitution. In the majority of the world today, there is a high level of demand for prostitutes as well as the services they render. Because prostitutes are exposed to a bacterial cornucopia of sexually transmitted diseases, many of them often contract a wide variety of these diseases. Many prostitutes are abused each year. However, because these prostitutes usually fear law enforcement, most of this systemic abuse goes unreported (Wurth et al. par. 2). Prostitutionproduces an abundance of money that is never taxed, yet this untapped tax revenue could produce economic growth for states that legalize prostitution. However, legalizing prostitution has the potential to create a safe, controlled environment that would benefit not only the prostitute, but it would benefit society as well. Making prostitution illegal creates an uncontrolled environment which does not require prostitutes to use protection. If prostitution remains illegal, then it will continue to be less likely that prostitutes will use protection. According to the journal of the international AIDS society, 11.8% pooled HIV prevalence among female workers in 50 countries (Wurth el al. par. 1). These numbers could decrease if the prostitution occurred in a controlled environment. In Nevada, this strategy can be seen in

Many people living in the countryside moved to the towns and cities where they could find more available jobs due to the development of machinery in the industries. These industries continued to expand due to the mass production of energy sources and raw materials. This increased the production of resources such as cotton and created a new era filled with technology. People who lived in the countryside and could not find jobs or afford food, moved to the urban areas where they were able to live comfortably and provide for their families. However, as rapid urbanisation occurred and the population in Britain increased dramatically, newcomers found that the available jobs gave little pay, therefore everyone in the family had to work hard. The government then decided to make child labour a compulsory system in all towns. In 1750, children from the age of 8 were forced to work in many industries such as iron, textiles, cotton and colliery. There was a higher percentage of working young children than teenagers and adults (86% of the workers in factories were under 14 years old and 14% were over ) as they were easier to train and manage, their small physique helped them fit into small spaces, and the government was able to pay them a minimum wage of 3 4 pence (less than 10 cents) a day. Nobody knows if these legends are true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). • 27. School Clothes Essay School Clothes I strongly believe that children should come with an instruction manual in different languages, after all, even the most complicated computer system or VCR has a manual in three to four languages, or more. Granted, sometimes we can t understand the instructions, but we have them and sometimes even a toll free help line. Now some people would say their own parent would be the help line but not always does that work out. Our own parents advice can be, shall I say, out dated; for example, many would suggest to us new parents to tell our child, what we say goes, or stop that crying or I ll give you something to cry about, or do it because I m the parent and I said so, not the desired tone for positive interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frankly, the whole exchange of dialogue is exhausting and I have given in more times than I d like to. I m sure that the lack of a Parenting Manual is not the reason for school uniform codes, but in my household uniforms certainly would make mornings easier. School uniforms have a multitude of rewards and benefits for both the parent and child and should be implemented in all elementary schools. The rewards and benefits far outweigh any negative connotations that opposing adults have. These benefits include: reduced headache and stress in the morning, reduced expense of clothing, increased focus on academics in the classroom, increased building of team spirit among classmates, and the, for lack of a better word, non discrimination on the popularity poll. I ll begin with exploring the morning ritual and the reward a uniform has on this process. Critics opposed to uniforms would say the solution to the miserable morning is to lay the clothes out at night, hence avoiding such conflicts. This idea sounds good at the outset; however, it just creates conflicts at bedtime so I haven t seen the advantages or solution to this nighttime ritual. On the other hand, the uniform idea poses some great alternatives; first the choices are limited, usually to a few shirts, sweaters, or sweatshirts, and one or two pairs of pants or shorts, and

Therefore, when he wrote, The History and Topography of Ireland, he portrayed its inhabitants as subhuman and barbaric during his apparent travels to Ireland. As a colonizer, Gerald picked a far away place in which many had not been to, in order to establish them as the other . Unfortunately, for Gerald, he may have ridiculed the Irish for their lifestyle conveyed in his writing, but his exploitation of them most likely was done because he could in fact relate to them. In the book, The Postcolonial Middle Ages, Jeffery Jerome Cohen s analysis in his chapter, Hybrids, Monsters, Borderlands: The Bodies of Gerald of Wales, closely focuses... Although, when explaining how the half man half ox came to be, the man having relations with the ox was not subject to dishonor, but instead it was said to just be a particular vice of that people (74). Here, Gerald suggests that although it was a man that acted dishonorably something beautiful came out of it, while the children of the bestial women are not spoken of most likely because they were so wretched. Gerald seems to be relating cultural hybridity to the act of interspecies crossbreeding, ultimately allowing the reader to relate it to filth. By showing different forms of miscegenation, Gerald makes each variation seem negative to his readers, which makes Ireland as a whole look like a place for hybrid mongrels . On one hand, Gerald may be ashamed of his own biological makeup, because of his parent s filthy urges but, on the other hand, he still holds some confidence in the fact that because he is more involved with his Christianity, he could not possibly make the same ghastly choices that his parents and supposedly the Irish appeared to. He uses the Irish his book to make an example out of anyone involved in hybridity. According to Gerald, the Irish are ignorant of the rudiments of the Faith and do not attend God s church with due reverence , but instead he repeatedly accuses them of incestuous relations and have yet to pay tithes or first fruit or contract marriages (106). He is upset with the Irish because he

For a few moments, I stared at the monster and started to kind of choke up, thinking about all we had gone through to capture him. I was still lost in thought when Emma skipped down the stairs, smiling at me. • 36. Chromium Plating Research Paper Due to the industrial restrictions in place across some the main areas of the world under health and safety regulations, finding an alternative plating process to the current hexavalent chromium process has become a real necessity. Trivalent chromium has proved to be a suitable replacement due to being less toxic, both health wise and environmentally, whilst also demonstrating almost identical metalfinishes to those of the hexavalent chromiumdeposits. However, the trivalent chromium chemical process is not without its difficulties, such as the inertness of the Cr3+ ions to be reduced to their metallic state, or the initial inferiority of the metal deposits physical properties in comparison to the deposits attained from conventional techniques. In order to overcome these issues multiple approaches have been investigated. It has been found that the use of complexing agents in the trivalent chromium electrolyte solution work to generate stable complexes with Cr3+ through ligand exchange which are then easily reducible to metallic chromium. Not only does this now allow chromium deposition to take place, but it also improves the current efficiency of the electrodeposit. The process of co depositing chromium as an alloy with other metals has shown to enhance the physical and chemical properties of the metal as opposed to individual electrodepositions; an ability that is unattainable for hexavalent chromium, giving an immediate advantage. In addition, the outcome of

  • 40. Life Poem Analysis The author Paul Laurence Dunbar wants the readers to acknowledge how he uses concrete and abstract in his poem called Life . Throughout his poem he uses concrete to make us feel how sadness takes over happiness most of the time, another strategy the author uses is abstract he uses it in a deep matter, he makes you think something that isn t normal that you can t visualize, he uses it a lot but also combines it with concrete as well. As a matter a fact this connects with something about my personal point of view so far because I also feel that I can t enjoy life as much as I would want but there s always another bad side and it s the problems that make you fall in depression and other stuff that has to do with sadness. However in the poem Life the writer expresses his poem by using concrete and abstract images, he tells us how life is too ironic to fully understand how you truly feel, but in his perspective sadness lasts more than being happy as well. In other words the author uses concrete to express how in the poem Life you can feel sadness and can imagine it, during the poem he mentioned with a smile to warm and the tears to refresh us this was an example of concrete when the author said a smile to warm you can actually feel a smile you can actually feel when you re warm, it also goes with the same thing when it says and the tears to refresh us you can feel when you cry also feel the tears like it s refreshing your face as saying happiness gets erased by the tears when you re getting refreshed. Another well done example the author used is when he said in his poem A pintof joy to a peck of trouble the author basically just mentioned how a pint of joy goes by so fast and when trouble comes, it comes in a matter of seconds and sometimes it can happen keep happening instantly, therefore it s concrete because you can feel the pint of joy where you actually feel the happiness but then he said peck means your conflicts start showing up rapidly. Additionally, he used the same strategy when author said And never a laugh, but the moans come double; this one is pretty straightforward when he said And never a laugh you know when you laugh you feel the happiness. However, if you laugh it s

  • 42. Different Colors Of Darkness By Nathaniel Hawthorne And... Callie Shipley Mrs. Carroll Literature 2326 5 October 2014 Different Hues of Darkness At first glance, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allen Poe may appear as though they are two birds of a feather. Their stories are often dark and dismal, and an enduring despair runs through the tales as a common thread. However, their inspirations originate from opposite ends of the spectrum. Hawthorne s works are the offspring of legalistic Puritan values and beliefs; on the other hand, Poe s stories reflect godlessness. While the characters of both authors often face a grim destination, the writers show through their unique styles that the path to hopelessness can take many different routes. These contrasting motivations first surface in the authors tones. Hawthorne s solemn words hearken to the Puritan mantra of stringent moral standards and the belief of a wicked world. In Young Goodman Brown, the protagonist learns about the evil concealed in the hearts of people he reveres. In the same way Brown s exposure robs him of hope and joy, Hawthorne s themes of evil s pervasiveness rob his stories of optimism. His disheartening opinion of humanity s state echoes Puritan beliefs, and because of the prevalence of this belief in his stories, his tales are melancholy by necessity. In contrast to the stern Puritan perspective, Poe s tone most resembles Gothic Romanticism. Eerie settings such as the abbey in Ligeia exemplify this melancholy style. Poe describes the abbey as having gloomy and

How Pop Culture Has Impacted The Smarts Of Our Country Pop culture has been seen in the past to be a main ingredient in making our country s I.Q. drop, or well, that the overall population is going to become dumber because of its rise. However, Malcolm Gladwell has felt differently, and decided to produce an article on how pop culture has effected the smarts of our country. In Malcolm Gladwell s article Brain Candy , Gladwell effectively uses rhetorical appeals to prove his argument. Throughout Gladwell s article he uses logical appeals to help prove his argument. One way that Gladwell validates his argument is by providing a thesis for the audience to follow. His thesis statement being placed at the end of the first paragraph is clearly displaying to the audience of what is to come out of the rest of his article, and what his stance is on the topic. Gladwell quotes Steven Johnson, saying that he proposes what we thought was making us dumber: pop culture (1). By Gladwell using this as his thesis he is informing us that his article is going to go into how pop culture was seen to make us dumber, but that there is proof that it has done just the opposite. Gladwell also uses the logical appeal of scientific facts to back up his argument. Gladwell used scientific data to help prove his argument to be true. In the article Brain Candy , Gladwell s use of his thesis, the thesis placement, as well as how he used scientific data for back up, shows that Gladwell was doing a good job of using logical appeals to help prove his stance

The term Auteur theory is the theory which states An auteur is a singular artist who controls all aspects of a collaborative creative work, a person equivalent to the author of a novel or a play. The term is commonly referenced to filmmakers or directors with a recognizable style or thematic preoccupation. What makes Hitchcock an Auteur is that he uses styles in his films in which in that if it was found in another movie the watchers would in a split second realize that he made it since he generally adheres to his one of a kind styles. Imagine a test score that can be easily influenced, but only through thousands of dollars worth of coaching. Now imagine that same test but biased towards certain crowds of students while also being incapable of accurately predicting their futures. Is this the test you want for colleges to use in order to distinguish students? This is the SATfamous for the unnecessary pressure it presents to students as well as the unfair disadvantages it presents to many others. Since these SAT scores are extremely artificial, SAT tests are not an accurate predictor for future success. SAT scores are inconsistent since they are directly correlated with average family income. Studies show that the average SAT score for students (out of 2400) in families earning up to $20,000 is 1326, whereas students in families earning over $200,000 receive an average score of 1714. This discrepancy is likely caused by unequal test preparation. Those with an average income of less than $20,000 tend to be families that cannot afford proper coaching, but those earning over $200,000 can afford as much coaching as they want. In other words, wealthier students are able to surpass the poorer students through gaming the system bringing their score up hundreds of points through hundreds of dollars worth of private college counseling as well as through hefty amounts of practice tests.
