Argumentative Essay On Cosplay
Secondly, cosplay improves imagination, creativity, and ability development. The costumes fans
wear are usually self made, though in some cases they are purchased from shops. Nicolle
Lamerichs, a cosplayer says that the community is crucial here to the development of costuming
skills. The process of sewing the costume and guaranteeing its authenticity is therefore very
important. (Lamerichs) According to this, it is clear that while cosplayers make their own
costumes, it improve their imagination, creativity, and ability development.
Thirdly, cosplay improves liberalization in people. Cosplayers generally participate in cosplay

In fact, many people strongly believed that this trend brought more adverse than good effects to
teenagers. The major reason is that cosplay is very time consuming and/or costs a lot of money.
Teenagers tend to spend most of their precious time to make their costumes if they can t afford
the money to buy the costumes. Based on a survey done by Robin S. Rosenberg and Andrea M.
Letamendi, The total time spent preparing costumes varied between 1 to 450 hours. The average
time spent preparing a costume was 44.16 hours. Each respondent was asked to answer questions
about their most time intensive costume. According to responses, these types of costumes took an
average of 133.58 hours. The most recent time intensive costume took 47.3 hours on average. On
another hand, cosplayers are unable to make the costumes, they spend a large portion of their
money to buy costumes. According to the survey, the majority of respondents spend between
$100.00 $399.00 per costume (30% reported between $100.00 $199.00 and 24% reported
between $200.00 $399.00 per costume). Nine percent of respondents reported spending $0 $50.00,

The Anzio Breakout Essay
January 22, 1944 the sun is shining, and there is quite wind blowing across the beach of Anzio.
In the next two days this beach will be covered in upwards of 30,000 allied troops and will see
some of the bloodiest fighting of the war in the next four months. Anzio was originally supposed to
be a distraction that Sir Alexander could use to breach the Gustav line. However, after a failure to
immediately push towards Rome the allieswould be trapped in trench warfare and would be forced
to breakout of Anzio. This was, simply enough, called the Anzio Breakout. The escape from Anzio
was comprised of the plan and its flaw, the invasion, and the Breakout. The allied commander Sir
Alexander felt that he would be unable to take Rome unless a... Show more content on

In the next week the Allies moved in seven miles fighting off the scattered but increasing
Germans. As the moved along the Anzio Albano Road toward Campoleone, they captured the
town of Aprilia, which created a massive dent in enemy lines, but were unbale to breakout of the
beachhead. Although they met some heavy resistance on the way to Cisterna and Littoria, that
eventually halted their advance, they managed to increase their numbers, and built anti air guns
impairing the German Luftwaffe. Despite their progress because they did not immediately drive
towards Rome the Germans were able to recover and retaliate. Most of the German counterstrikes
were random air raids on the snarl of trenches the allies had dug. The allies broken and weary
from the random barrage of artillery were more then ready to escape the trenches of Anzio and
head towards the capital Rome.
They got their chance on May 12, 1944. On this date the Fifth and Eighth corps retaliated with their
long anticipated offensive against the Gustav Line, finally allowing them to capture Cassino
successively breaking the Gustav Line. Playing to the advantage of the turbulent status in the
central mountains, and using an Allied artillery barrage, along with armor and infantry assaults
along the Anzio, the Cisterna front was opened. On May 23rd, The Allies were able to rupture the
German main line of resistance using air

Clicktivism Book Report
How Clicktivism Killed the Activist Since it s conception, the resounding sentiment at the heart of
any activist movement has been the desire to have one s voice heard. The common ambition of
activists of every kind has always been to represent the needs and injustices of the marginalized
communities in question, and in doing so, to bring about change. Margaret Mead, a cultural
anthropologist, and an outspoken feminist once said, never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world; indeed it s the only thing that ever has. However, in
recent years, activism has begun to take on a very different form. This once small group of
thoughtful and committed citizens dedicated to justice have multiplied exponentially... Show more

Much of the incentive to become an activist is to be a part of a movement; an integral cog in the
changing of history. One indisputable benefit of social media is its ability to effectively inform
millions of people at once; this is infinitely powerful. The interactive format of social networking
invites individuals to educate themselves on an issue and then to contribute to it, all in under ten
minutes. Despite its efficiency, the detriment of this system is that it perpetuates the idea that the
signing of a change.org petition is all it takes to make a difference. Grassroots activism and
petitioning, while absolutely fundamental parts of the pursuit of social justice are often only the
inciting steps in the lengthy and usually complicated process of creating lasting change. In 2014,
in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice, to name just a few, an
international movement protesting police brutality began with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. The
issue of racially induced police brutality became a relevant topic of debate in the presidential
election that followed, and protests took place worldwide. This movement is winning a major
battle in the war against racism and much of this success was owed to its sensational presence on
social media. The Black Lives Matter movement is an example of social networking being an
invaluable tool in spreading

Portal Hypertension Paper
Hello, my name is Amy Gordon and I will be discussing the disease process of Portal Hypertension,
and discussing how the disease process can affect the neurological, gastrointestinal, reproductive,
skin, hematological, metabolic and circulatory Systems. I will also be discussing the types of
treatments, the average annual cost of medication therapy, side effects of the medications, and how
to prevent exacerbation of the disease from occurring.
Portal Hypertension is known as an increase in the pressure of the portal venous system (Lewis,
Heitkemper, Dirksen, Bucher, 2014). Portal Hypertension puts an individual at risk of damage to
the vessels that lead to the liver, resulting in poor blood circulation (Lewis et al., 2014). As portal

less drop in potassium levels with a potassium sparing diuretic (Lehne, 2013). The individual will
be on Klor con to assist with keeping the potassium levels within the normal range only if not on
a potassium sparing diuretic. Lasix will help with prevention of ascites, by removing the excess
fluid around the major organs and abdominal area (Lehne, 2013). Inderal is the drug of choice in
the prevention of bleeding, due to increased pressure in the portal vein (Lehne, 2013). Finally, I
would have the individual in some form of antibiotic therapy three times a week, to help prevent
bacterial peritonitis (Lehne, 2013). This will decrease the mortality rate, due to multiple system

Differentiated Instruction And The Udl Principles Essay
Differentiated instruction and the UDL principles
These two elements of classroom are intrinsically linked, as differentiated instruction is well suited
to the three principles in UDL. By focusing on CAST s three systems and appropriate teaching
methods, particularly recognition, strategic and affective, the guide aims to identify ways in which
differentiated instruction coordinates UDL theory. Varying theories have been proven to be
affective in supporting different skills as students learn, from gifted and talented to those providing
more support in special education programs.

of Object Relations Theory. Object Relations Theory is the relation between the internalized sense
of self and others, and how it affects present relationships. OR therapy specifically focuses on the
relationship between the child and early caregiver. OR theorist concludes how attachment styles

Object relations theorist says past memories, relationships, and images of events can effect an
individuals present functioning (Butman, Jones, 2011, 140). Internal objects are the most
important because they influence the individuals self, relationships they engage in, and the
attachment these individuals form within those relationships (Murdock, 2013, 83). These
internal objects determine how we relate to people (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Internalized
objects also represent how individuals view themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). When an
individual is nurtured and protected, they are more likely to develop a whole view of
themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). On the contrary, individuals who do not feel protected
and loved tending to get stuck in the relationship where their needs were not met (Butman, Jones,

to facilitate the discussion. The talking tool will be a small koosh ball that will be passed around
to each person with a light underhand throw. Everyone will get at least one turn to talk and
participate in the discussion. First I will provide a model to the students by showing students how
to lightly toss the ball underhand and then how to catch the ball. Once I catch the ball I will model
how to provide to the discussion and then toss to another student. I will also model how to list and

Before students enter the hallway I will demonstrate by modeling how to line up at the door and
enter the hallway. I will then demonstrate how to walk in the hallway with my hands to myself and
with a voice level of 0. I will then have the students line up at the door next to their shoulder
partner. Once students have a voice level of 0 I will allow the students to go into the hallway. The
students will stop once they are in the hallways until everyone is together in one line. The students
will then follow the line leader with their shoulder partner down the hallway to their next location.
By having quiet and smooth transitions, will save time and cut down on behaviors which will
benefit the student s learning environment.
Theoretical Model /Area it best fits and why:
I would show the students how to walk in the hallways appropriatly by modeling. The students
would observe and then repeat what they have observed which relates to the Social Learning
Theory. The Social Learning Theory developed by Albert Bandura focuses on imitation and the
ability of one to watch, memorize and repeat a behavior. Students will imitate me after I model for
them and they will also be able to imitate their classmates. When walking to another location in teh
hallway the students will follow and imitate the line leader to get to their destinatation effectively

Similarities Between Populist And Progressive Movements
Populist and Progressive Reform in American History Throughout American history, reform was
common among people of a particular, race, gender, or class used to accomplish change. The
emergence of the populist and progressive movements were a response to the changing climate in
American society due to rapid industrialization, an ethnically diverse personality of a young nation,
and birth of American imperialism. Disgruntled American farmers that wished to advance their
economic position initiated the Populist movement. Progressives pushed to improve urban labor
conditions, dismantle trusts and monopolies, conserve of environment, and to install an active
government. Populism and Progressivism had many similarities and differences, which... Show

Discontented farmers, despite their passion, lacked the numbers to make a national impact. They
accomplished many of their goals, though most were not recognized as populist achievements.
Ultimately, class played a primary role in the apparent failure of the populists in comparison to the
success of the progressives. Despite the brevity of its existence, the Populist movement exercised a
profound influence on subsequent U.S. political life. Almost all the Populist demands, which at one
time were widely viewed as radical and contradictory to America s free enterprise system, were
eventually enacted into law. The Progressive Movement was an outgrowth of previous reform eras,
including the ideas first presented by the Populists. While many Progressives were originally anti
Populists, they eventually came to believe that the large corporations and other monopolies that
they were trying to reform were similar to the farmer s revolts against the railroads and commercial
practices and regulations of the government. As a continuation of populist ideology, the progressive
movement accomplished a great feat with the passing of the Interstate Commerce Act and the
Sherman Antitrust Act. The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 created the Interstate Commerce
Commission, the first true federal regulatory agency, to control the issues of railroad abuse and
discrimination. Railroad companies were required to have and publish reasonable

However, Acts is the account of all that Jesus continued to do and to teach through His apostles by

Disadvantages Of Mixed Economic System
INTRODUCTION
The problem of scarcity is one common to all economies regardless of its wealth. This requires
choices to realistically be made, as determined by the country s economic system. The economic
system basically refers to the allocative mechanism by which the people, businesses and
government of a country make choices. Economists have recognized three distinct types of
economic system the capitalist economy, the socialist economy and the mixed economy (Bamford
Grant 2010).
In a capitalist economy, households and firms usually decide the allocation of resources. They
interact as buyers and sellers in the market for goods and services. Prices and the operation of the

At this time, the British government was responsible for substantial areas of public expenditure
such as health care and education, the direct operation of nationalized industries such as coal and
gas, as well as for providing support for large areas of manufacturing, such as vehicle production, in
partnership with the private sector (Bamford Grant 2010), while most decisions such as daily
purchases are left for the public to make themselves. Some of the advantages of the mixed economy
system include the fact that the government provides the essential services while encouraging the
private sectors to continue building profits. The competition that arises from the private sector
keeps prices low, ultimately benefiting the consumers and influencing their choices. Inefficient
business behavior can also be controlled through the implementation of this system, minimizing
the damage. On the contrary, its disadvantages are that the heavy taxes incurred reduce incentives
provided for the public in the private sector to work hard and make profits. The government is
also less efficient than the private sector; hence the essential services provided will not have the
best quality. An excessive control over business activity via taxes incurred can also add to a firm s

Free Speech
Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.
These words were spoken by Benjamin Franklin, one of our nation s founding fathers, when the
United States was still a newly independent country. Free speech, which is defined as the right to
express any opinion in public without censorship or restraint by the government, is a subject that is
still present in the minds of many people today. At one extreme of the spectrum is a group of folks

There are many different groups that choose to implement internet filtering software on computers
that they own. Among these groups are libraries, schools, employers, and parents. In December of
2000, the United States Congress passed the Children s Internet Protection Act (CHIPA), which is
legislation that forced public and private libraries as well as schools that are federally funded

on their computers were compensated or benefited monetarily through additional government
subsidy would have been fine, but when the government is federally mandating censorship it is a

The concept grew out of dissatisfaction with entrenched policies of continuous economic growth
and unequal distribution of benefits and costs ( Bramwell and Lane, 1993; Hardy, Beeton, and
Pearson,2002). Similarly, sustainable development for tourism industry is found to be difficult to
define( Swarbrooke,1999), The term could be defined as a form of tourism sustained over a period
time(Butler,1999). Accordingly, tourism industry that meets the needs of today s tourists without
taking away from the future generations the resource necessary to fulfill their own needs. Thus, the
controversy exists over a definition for sustainable tourism development.
The most widely quoted definition of sustainable development is the one provided by the
Brundtland Report, the report says that sustainable development is development that meets the

Analysis Of Chasing Cpt And Leading The Sioc Testing At Cha1
Project Summary
I worked on many small projects this summer. However they can be summarized as follows:
building tools to improve quality and efficiency in the pack department; analyzing our process of
chasing CPT s and leading the SIOC testing at CHA1. I was able to build 3 tools, a Pack Head
Count Macro (Appendix A B), a Pack Rate Puller Macro (Appendix C D), and a Planning Board for
Outbound Macro (Appendix E F) all of these tools were created to be used on Day and Night
Shift. I was able to analyze the process of chasing CPT s using two methods, a profitability analysis
and analyzing the rates of packers. Finally, I helped start up and run SIOC testing at our site. To
show the effectiveness of the three tools I have created, I will explain how the process worked
before the tool I created, describe how my tool works, and then detail how it changed the
process, for each tool. The analysis of chasing CPT s I will first talk about our current CPT
chasing program, then walk through my two analyses. Then I will discuss how I set up SIOC
testing, how I ensured it would continue running successfully and the plan I have put in place to
ensure it continues effectively once I leave. Then I will talk about the benefits of each project.
Finally, I will wrap up with a conclusion and acknowledgements.
Pack Head Count Macro
Prior to my macro being used, process assistants (PA) would regularly call out for head counts.
They will call out to each process guide (PG) for a head

Toulmin Argument Analysis
The Toulmin method is an effective way to carefully analyze a text within a written argument.
When writing the Toulmin method, the readers can show how effectively or ineffectively the
author s argument is. The article, Raise Wages, Not Walls, Michael S. Dukakis and Daniel J. B.
Mitchell argue that raising the minimum wages will help solve the immigration issue rather than
building walls. The essay has a claim, but has weak supporting evidences and reasons that does not
support the claim. In the Toulmin method, the authors provide a claim, evidence, and qualifiers.
The claim is the position that the author is arguing for. In this particular article, the authors claim
that raising the minimum will turn back the tide of illegal immigration ... Show more content on

The authors insist raising the minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to something closer to $8, is
a more effective solution to the immigration problem (Dukakis Mitchell, 2006). After a claim is
stated in the essay, the authors must provide grounds. Grounds are reasons or supporting
evidences that bolster the claim. The authors use evidences to support the claim. Dukakis and
Mitchell present a weak ground in the article by giving an ineffective way that can solve the
issue. The authors disagree with building a wall along the Mexican border as a solution to the
illegal immigration problem (Dukakis Mitchell). There is a flaw in this solution because the
authors believe that illegal immigrants will find a way to get into the United States even if there
is a wall. This is a weak ground because it does not really support the claim, but it shows how an
alternative effort are not really effective. Another poor evidence that is provided by the article is
when the authors state that the minimum wage needs to be raise before enforcing the wage law
and other basic labor standards (Dukakis Mitchell, 2006). The authors give a reason of how this
will allow the employers to regulate the businesses, which would in turn

Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep
It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is
most definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories,
cleansing toxins, and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple
stages, from triggering a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages
to it, the first being the state between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as
drowsy sleep due to the muscles in the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit.
In this stage the brainwaves transition from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal
range of brain wavelengths when the body is awake, to less erratic alpha... Show more content on

The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and
beta waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has
shut off all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime
example of how the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an
area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the
thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is
responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing information. The pons also sends signals that
shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain
Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists believe this is the reason infants
sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible to being woken up by the
slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and brain involvement
some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information it receives
during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. REM sleep could be considered as a work out
for your brain, helping us to make sense of what we experience throughout our

The Competitors Of The Fitness Industry
INTRODUCTION The area of Shred415 that I research was the competitors of the fitness
industry. From big gyms with basketball courts, pools, and juice bars such as Lifetime Fitness to
videos you can watch and work out to at home like P90X, there are thousands of different places
to turn to improve your fitness and health. However, Shred415 takes a new approach at fitness

During these intervals, people alternate between cardio work on the treadmill and weight training.

making their gyms big enough to withstand more people and by introducing a pre recorded
training video for the customers to watch while working out. The new business plan is to be
able to get more customers in to workout and be able to get in without scheduling a month in

gyms. Question We came to our idea by asking ourselves, what are the biggest problems with
Shred415 right now and how can we take this already unique fitness club to the next level.
Shred415 already has a lot of strengths. It is an innovative new way of working out and the

how can they address their shortage of trained instructors? Situation Currently Shred415 is doing a

right now are their availability and the ability to get enough trained instructors on their staff. As of
right now, the maximum amount of people

Even if they didn t intend to gain recognition for doing it, many are written down in history as a

circumstances call for it, they ll step up and be a herowith a courageous mentality. They display

The Social Process Theories
A social norm is a specified code of conduct that is acceptable within a society or group. These
norms include both appropriate and inappropriate values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that are
expected of individuals under given circumstances (Lewis, 1969). They are neither static nor
universal as they keep on changing with time and vary with respect to culture, class and groups.
There are two different types of social norms, namely behavioral or descriptive norms and
attitudinal or injunctive norms. Descriptive norms are defined as actions and behaviors that are
depicted by individuals in a social group setting. These norms are informal and originate from the
day to day social interactions hence are neither enforced by the justice system nor other formal
bodies (Cook, 2003).Behavioral norms attract no social sanctions for non conformity with the
norms. Injunctive norms on the other hand are beliefs and expectations of how individuals or
people should behave within a group setting under given situations. Individuals tend to conform to
attitudinal norms out of fear of possible interdictions as a result of not following them.
Dominant culture refers to the approved languages, culture, beliefs, values, and customs that are
portrayed as for the general society. Dominant culture achieves dominion over other cultures
through domination of the social institutions such as communication, education, art, politics, law
and business.Dominant culture has played the role of judging

The Spirit Buses operate beginning approximately at 7:00AM to 12:00AM on Monday through
Fridays and from 9:00AM to 5:00PM on Saturdays and Sundays (Transit). According to the Facts
and Questions page found on the Aggie Transportation website, the buses run on diesel fuel,
which is comprised of the fossil fuels that are draining every day. For daily operations, about
2,350 gallons of diesel fuel is used by these buses, each costing about $65.00 per hour to operate.
Yearly, this calculates consuming 857,750 gallons of diesel fuel as well paying $45,552,000.00

Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder
Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity is one of the best representatives of the film noir era in
Hollywood as it contains all the main characteristics of the genre. The general darkness present
throughout the movie is embodied in the plot which reveals the moral bankruptcy of the main
characters. It is also present in the mise en scene choices such as the dark costumes and modest
lighting with the great emphasis on shadows. The main characters voice over, another important film
noircharacteristic, brings this darkness to life and communicates it to the audience with brutal
honesty. One of the scenes of the film which contains all of these features is the one where the two
main characters, Neff and Phyllis, meet for the first time. This scene will be analysed with respect
to the main film noir elements and techniques that were used in the making of it.
This scene introduces the femme fatale character Phyllis Dietrichson and starts a relationship
between her and Neff a relationship which sets out the plot for rest of the film. The scene focuses
on Phyllis use of sexual appeal to gain control over Neff and try to use him to fulfil her twisted of
murdering her husband. Wilder uses several filming elements characteristic to film noir in the scene
in order to display the nature of Neff and Phyllis relationship from the very moment they met.
The scene starts with a bright shot set outdoors as Neff is heading to Mr. Dietrichson s house a shot

made up of disaccharide units containing a hexuronic acid (О± L iduronic acid or ОІ D glucuronic

These sulphated polysaccharides show great advantages as alternative sources for anti coagulant
therapies, especially because of the massive use of heparin (Fareed et al., 2000). These marine
sulphated polysaccharide also offer some advantages over heparin. They show considerably lower
contamination levels of virus and/or prions because they are exclusively extracted from marine
sources. Moreover, these marine sulphated polysaccharides have the potential of being more useful
as clinical reagents due to their regular and well defined structures (Pomin MourГЈo, 2008). This
attention is a consequence of the great interest in novel sulfated polysaccharides such as
glycosaminoglycans (GAG). GAG are of particular interest to researchers looking for alternative

there were various glycosaminoglycans in mollusk. Many scholars have separated and extracted

Social Problem Of Violence Against Women
Violence against women is huge social problem. It is not just a women s problem but also a men s
problem. Violence against women is seen everywhere in the world, especial those who live in more
patriarchal society. We are in a world where we see violence against women as a big issue but we

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cerebral Palsy
Words like incurable, permanent, handicap, and special needs may make cerebral palsy seem like
some big, scary disease, but with modern treatments and surgeries, the disorder can be made
extremely manageable. Cerebral palsy is a blanket term for impaired or loss of motor function due
to damage to an immature brain (Cerebral Palsy). The injury must occur before, during, or

occurs during prenatal development (Bunch 33). Cerebral palsy causing injuries can only happen to

Cerebral palsy can also cause pain, discomfort, emotional distress, increased dependency, and
decreased independence. Cerebral palsy also affects body movement, reflexes, posture, balance,
and muscle control, tone, and coordination. The disease can impact fine motor skills, gross motor
skills, and oral motor functioning (Cerebral Palsy). Children with cerebral palsy may be slow in
learning to walk or talk (Bunch 34). Because of all of this, people with cerebral palsy have trouble
with speaking, eating, moving, learning, and controlling eye movements (Eurostemcell).
One of the most common side effects of cerebral palsy is spasticity. Spasticity causes increased
muscle tone and tension. Some effects of spasticity are inhibition of movement, muscle growth, and
protein synthesis, limited stretching of muscles in daily activities, muscle and joint deformities
(Cerebral Palsy). If left alone, severe spasticity can lead to permanently stiff muscles (Bunch 32).
Approximately 80 out of 100 patients with cerebral palsy have varying degrees of spasticity
(Center).
While there is currently no cure for cerebral palsy, a wide variety of treatments are available
(Cerebral Palsy). The goal when treating cerebral palsy is to minimize effects of the disability, not
eliminate symptoms altogether, as that is currently not a possible option (Bunch 32). Most cases
can be managed and individuals can live long, healthy, quality lives. For less

Essay on The Hamlet Project
In William Shakespeare s play Hamlet, Gertrude is Hamlet s mother and Queen of
Denmark. Hamlet and Queen Gertrude have a rocky relationship throughout the story.,
since he resents her for marrying her husband s brother Claudius after he murdered the
King (young Hamlet s father, King Hamlet).
Gertrude reveals no guilt in her marriage with Claudius. The
immediacy of her second marriage suggest that there may be some question as to whether
or not she was involved in the murder. Her actions are often suspect, particularly
because, according to Hamlet, she scarcely mourned her husband s death before marrying
Claudius. Gertrude is, more so than any other character in the play, the antithesis of her ... Show

It is Gertrude s underlying propensity for goodness that redeems her. Her men forgive
Her for her shallow, sensual nature and her addictions to comfort and pleasure because

As trusting as a new born babe.
Gertrude quickly appeared in the Hamlet play as being the first character to be
talked about. The first point that was brought up was how the King Hamlet had been
poisoned and how his surviving wife had remarried quickly to his brother Claudius. By
the sudden lose of his father and the sudden marriage of his mother to his uncle ate
Hamlet up with grief. In the play, Hamlet impression on his mother is pure remorse.
Hamlet quotes Frailty, thy name is women! Gertrude doesn t seemed upset by the

Figurative Language In The Yearling
Winning the Pulitzer Prize is like winning the Heisman Trophy. In that regard, Marjorie Kinnan
Rawlings is comparable to Nile Kinnick. Kinnick won the Heisman in 1939 for his hard work,
dedication, and ability to play football. Rawlings won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939 for her novel,
The Yearling, for her deliberate use of sensory details, figurative language, and artful syntax. The
appliance of sensory details throughout the novel enhance the story by depicting a vivid image
of the characters and their situations. On page 224, Rawlings describes the events of the
morning of the storm. The fawn came to Jody s bed and poked its muzzle against his face. The
contrast of the wet, cold nose and Jody s warm face simulate the change of the setting from calm
and warm to story and cold. Earlier in the story, Jody is once again sleeping, but this time on the
river on page 6. There were no black boles of live oaks, no glossy green of magnolia leaves, no
pattern of gold lace where the sun had sifted through the branches of the wild cherry. The sensory
details of the fading reality epitomize the dreamland that Jody is drifting off to. In addition to the
sensory details, the asyndeton contributes to the relatable feeling of thoughts turning to dreams as
sleep takes over the mind. The most effective use of sensory details occurs on page 224 as Jody
wakes up the morning of the storm. The morning, however, was clear, but the east was the color of
blood. The distinct image of the sun

The Fragile X Syndrome
The Fragile X Syndrome is a mutation in the gene Fragile X. This usually means that the X
chromosome of the child appears to be pinched when looked at under a microscope (Akshoomoff,
Pierce, Courchesne, 2002). This simple pinched mutation causes the child to not develop how you
would expect the chromosome to normally develop. Of course when something does not develop
correctly there will be complications and issues. Researchers have noticed that many children with
Fragile X Syndrome and autismseem to have similar symptoms, especially when it comes to their
social development. This is why they originally thought that Fragile X Syndrome and autism were
connected. This is why sometimes most children are only thought to have ASD or Fragile X

Don Delillo s White Noise
Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name
make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal
with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their
reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests
this matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these
things due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the
same; it is simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of
naming and evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to
argue that the problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s
perspective and reminds them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. These
given titles and names engender a certain aura and disposition for themselves that cause either
excitement or disappointment. In Chapter two Jack and Murray travel to visit a tourist attraction
known as the most photographed barn in America (12). Neither had ever visited here before, but
because of the name most photographed...in America, they were expecting something one of a kind,
something magnificent. The expectations of the tourists were set high as they counted five signs

Starwood Is A Hotel And Leisure Company
Starwood is a hotel and leisure company. The company has a significant presence in diverse
geographic markets, which helps it offset concentration risks. However, price war, fueled by intense
competition, could make Starwood s luxurious brands uncompetitive resulting in low market
penetration opportunities for the company. We know that many decisions made are normative
decision making. The company has many strengths as Starwood has strong brand portfolio in the
luxury and upper upscale segments of the lodging industry (Fox, 2016). They have a global
footprint with a strong loyalty program and patron following (Fox, 2016). These strengths put
Starwood in a unique position to maintain their brands as well as their potential value to buyers and
stock holders has much potential. The potential for growth is abundant, but Starwood has some
weaknesses that need better management. Compared to their competition, Starwood has a high
debt burden (SWOT Analysis, 2016). Unlike their competition, they still rely heavily on a 3rd
party reservations from the internet company (SWOT Analysis, 2016). Due to their strengths in
brand and loyalty, but weaknesses that are primarily rooted in poor oversight and management,
sets Starwood up for expansion or merger with another firm. The decisions Starwood makes along
a ten year trek is indicative of making themselves more attractive to a potential buyer. The Travel
Lodging segment is expected to grow in the United States and abroad.

Sks Manufacutring
Introduction
SKS Manufacturing has recently hired Deloitte Touche as they are in a critical cash position with
various internal inefficiencies in their procurement and production processes. Deloitte Touche and
SKS Manufacturing will need to work together in order to solve the issues present at SKS
Manufacturing so they can be successful within the automotive parts industry.
Issues Analysis
There are three key issues that are present at SKS Manufacturing that need to be systematically
tackled in order for stabilization of the business to occur and the long term redesigning process to
be effective. The key issues facing SKS Manufacturing are: (1) cash flow shortage (2) weak
alignment and integration within the value chain and (3) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Integration Alignment
Alignment and integration is a key issue that is causing turmoil at SKS Manufacturing as the firm
is not able to have efficient cross functionality. This is due to (1) a lack of technological
integrations as a centralized information sharing system is not being effectively used within
divisions, causing inaccurate data to reflect poor forecasting decisions. (1.1)This leads to the
biggest driver of poor performance, which is inaccurate forecasting as information, is not being
accurately analyzed, causing procurement and production to make poor business decisions.
(2)The divisions are also not aligned as the sales division dumps orders before the end of the
quarter without recognizing if production has capacity to manufacture or even if enough material
is on hand to complete the order, causing delivery delays (A3). (2.1)This leads to incomplete
orders and loss in revenue, which will affect the bottom line as fixed costs remain the same. This is
a critical issue that needs to be addressed by Deloitte Touche and SKS Manufacturing as all core
functions of the business need to be integrated utilizing information control systems that share
information. Additionally all of the business functions need to be aligned by understanding each
other s capabilities and needs so they do not create last minute problems for

Censorship Of The Chinese Communist Party
When one uses the internet in China, the person must always understand... he or she is being
watched. In China, over 100,000 government enforcers work to censor or block unwanted
information from Chinese and foreign websites. Much of this information being shot down includes
talk of democracy, the very opposite of the Chinese Communist Party s ideas. Censorship of internet
and media in China has been brought by its Communist government who have wanted to shield the
Chinese people from undesired ideas, such as democracy, that could start a large revolt of citizens
demanding government reforms. On October 1, 1949, Mao Zedongfounded the People s Republic
of China after he and his Communist supporters defeated the nationalists, beginning a new era for
China of strict totalitarian rule. When Mao died in 1976, the country was left in ruins from Mao s
failed plans. A new leader, Deng Xiaoping, emerged and made reforms allowing open market
capitalism in the economy that changed China into a powerful country. Yet, Deng stayed with a
totalitarian government that still had harsh crackdowns such as the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen
Massacre and today censorship law. Some may argue that it is necessary the Chinese government
continue to censor foreign websites and information in order to ensure the public s safety and trust.
Although the Chinese government states that censorship is necessary to ensure citizens safety, it
will threaten the country s future success because it constricts

Stereotypes In The Movie Brave
Disney Presents: A Brave Butch
In the Disney movie, Brave, the main character is a princess named Merida. You see from the
beginning that Merida enjoys archery, riding her horse, and doing many non girly things. It is
refreshing to see a princess in a movie that is not your typical girly girl. This can teach young girls
that they do not have to succumb to the type of behavior the rest of society makes them feel they
should.
However, in other people s eyes, including her mother s, this is not how a proper princess should
behave. Merida should want to wear dresses, take a husband, and become a proper lady. This idea
is the one that most Disney movies give to young women. Ladies should be proper, extremely
feminine, and have a man to complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I love it. Here Merida is proving that even though she is a princess and it is her duty to marry, it
is not what she believes in and she will not stand for it. This is how these children s movies should
be. Women have the right to be free in all of their choices, and they do not need men to complete
them. Also, when she crushes her competition it is shows young women that they too can excel in
activities that are seen as manly.
At the end of the movie Merida s mother changed her mind about the marriage. It is decided that
the firstborns of the clans will marry when and who they choose, even though this goes against the
normal traditions. Merida is finally accepted as she is, and is allowed to just be herself.
In Stone Butch Blues, Jess realizes that the only way to be happy in this world is to be yourself.
She comes out as a butch and refers to herself as a he/she. She begins to speak out into the
community about her story and is fully accepted into the gay community. She finds herself and she
finds peace.
Comparing these two stories, Jess and Merida were both different from the mold that they were
supposed to fit into to. Both of these characters fought for what they believed in and found
happiness in just being who they are. While Merida found love and acceptance with her family,
Jess found that same love and acceptance within a new family and

Black Elk And The Struggle Of Faith
Black Elk and the Struggle of Faith
The story of Nicholas Black Elk was one that was reluctantly told, a Lakota medicine man, a
visionary of his own sort. Written by John G. Neihardt, Black Elk Speaks captures the essence of
what the Lakota culture based its teachings off of, as well as exhibiting who Black Elk really was.
When Neihardt began his dialogues with Black Elk he knew which questions to ask, his plan
was clear from the beginning. There were choices made by Neihardt that seem controversial,
such as why he decided to end his book at the Battle of Wounded Knee instead of continuing
through Black Elk s life and his conversion to Catholicism. The steps taken by Neihardt
succeeded in portraying Black Elk s own story, and the importance of his vision on his life.
Black Elk himself can be looked upon as a character within an all encompassing realm of change.
From the time that he was a boy he had been instilled with the fear of the Wasichu , as well as the
virtues of the Lakota religion. A short way into the telling of his story, Black Elk shares with
Neihardt that at the age of 9, he had a vision. As rudimentary as it sounds, this vision can be
attributed with shaping Black Elk s whole life. Black Elk s recollection of the vision is
impeccable, not a detail goes unremembered. Without much evidence as to what caused Black Elk
to fall sick, the book describes swelling and what would be thought of today as hallucinations.
Black Elk only finds his vision because he is

Summary Of The Neighborhood
The book describes Bottom as a neighborhood atop the hills, overlooking the town of Medallion
in Ohio. The time is 1919, immediately after WWI. The irony in the name of the neighborhood is
that instead of being located at the bottom, it is actually above the town. The name came from a
white landowner trying to fool a freed slave into thinking that this location was more desirable
than the valley because it was the bottom of heaven best land there is. (p. 5). The trick worked at
the time, but after settling in, most residents realized the inaccuracy of the statement. Shadrack is

Trojan War
Was The Trojan War Just?
The Trojan War was a Greek mythological war waged on account of the beautiful Helen, wife of
the Spartan king Menelaus, being stolen from Greece by Paris, Prince of Troy. It is one of the
most important, if not the most important, event in Greek mythology. The dispute originated from
a quarrel between three goddesses, Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite. They were fighting to see who
was the fairest among them. They were sent by Zeus to Paris in order for him to judge them. Paris
chose Aphrodite after she offered to make Helen, the most beautiful of all women, fall in love with
him. She then proceeded to take Helen from Menelaus, with Paris s help and give her to him, thus
causing the Trojan War. Throughout this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For in the end, many innocent lives are taken, therefore a just war is waged only for the right
intentions. After all, the Bible does tell us that there is a time to love, and a time to hate; a time
for war, and a time for peace (Ecclesiastes 3:8). War is not wrong, but it is wrong if waged for the
wrong reasons. Was The Trojan War righteous? The Bible says, Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34). After all, what is righteousness? It is acting
in accord with moral or divine law. This is not the kind of divinity defined by the divine gods of
ancient Greece, but the divinity that comes from the true Lord. According to His laws, waging a
war on account of beautiful woman, is not righteous, or in alignment with moral law. And to
consider material gain over the preservation of innocent life is not war for the right intention
(righteousness). In a just war, the ultimate goal should be to re establish peace. Consequently, the
war must have begun in turmoil, without peace. In this case, however, the war caused strife and
turmoil. Before the war, the two countries got along reasonably. During and after the war, there
was hatred. Now that is not the result of a just war, or even the goal. In the first place, anyway,
there was no consideration of ultimate peace. No, only vanity and material gain were in the mind
of the king and the people of Greece. If the authorities of Greece and Troy were putting peace

Although, the persona does state that the actual truth exists in some. Hill acknowledges that some
have not given into what society wants us to believe and have adopted their own way of thinking
and living. This is clearly proven in the poem when the author states, Light shown in darkness,
image exposed. Few can see through the new emperor s clothes (lines 13 14). Light illuminates the
idea of the truth in society. Hill alludes to new emperor s clothes, primary symbolizing lies and
deception (line 13). The persona states that few can actually see through the lies that have been
provided. When we are being lied to time after time, these lies become a part of our psyche and
are then repeated and reproduced later in time. This false belief is slowly killing the minds of
society.
Fallacy is defined as deceptive appearance, guile, trickery, or false or mistaken idea (Merriam
Webster 1). The persona presents the fact that we have been sucked into what the world wants
us to believe. The more we are lied to, the more we are going to be negatively affected. Moral
dilemma, pride is the root. Misguided from youth, heart divided from truth (lines 28 29).We have
been taken from what is right and thrown into the wrong. Hill is stating that we have been
misguided at a very young age. Our minds and hearts have been separated from what is right in
the world. Lacan s Model of the Psyche can be directly related to how the persona feels about this

  • 4. The Anzio Breakout Essay January 22, 1944 the sun is shining, and there is quite wind blowing across the beach of Anzio. In the next two days this beach will be covered in upwards of 30,000 allied troops and will see some of the bloodiest fighting of the war in the next four months. Anzio was originally supposed to be a distraction that Sir Alexander could use to breach the Gustav line. However, after a failure to immediately push towards Rome the allieswould be trapped in trench warfare and would be forced to breakout of Anzio. This was, simply enough, called the Anzio Breakout. The escape from Anzio was comprised of the plan and its flaw, the invasion, and the Breakout. The allied commander Sir Alexander felt that he would be unable to take Rome unless a... As the moved along the Anzio Albano Road toward Campoleone, they captured the town of Aprilia, which created a massive dent in enemy lines, but were unbale to breakout of the beachhead. Although they met some heavy resistance on the way to Cisterna and Littoria, that eventually halted their advance, they managed to increase their numbers, and built anti air guns impairing the German Luftwaffe. Despite their progress because they did not immediately drive towards Rome the Germans were able to recover and retaliate. Most of the German counterstrikes were random air raids on the snarl of trenches the allies had dug. The allies broken and weary from the random barrage of artillery were more then ready to escape the trenches of Anzio and head towards the capital Rome. They got their chance on May 12, 1944. On this date the Fifth and Eighth corps retaliated with their long anticipated offensive against the Gustav Line, finally allowing them to capture Cassino successively breaking the Gustav Line. Playing to the advantage of the turbulent status in the central mountains, and using an Allied artillery barrage, along with armor and infantry assaults along the Anzio, the Cisterna front was opened. • 5. Clicktivism Book Report How Clicktivism Killed the Activist Since it s conception, the resounding sentiment at the heart of any activist movement has been the desire to have one s voice heard. The common ambition of activists of every kind has always been to represent the needs and injustices of the marginalized communities in question, and in doing so, to bring about change. Margaret Mead, a cultural anthropologist, and an outspoken feminist once said, never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it s the only thing that ever has. However, in recent years, activism has begun to take on a very different form. This once small group of thoughtful and committed citizens dedicated to justice have multiplied exponentially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the incentive to become an activist is to be a part of a movement; an integral cog in the changing of history. One indisputable benefit of social media is its ability to effectively inform millions of people at once; this is infinitely powerful. The interactive format of social networking invites individuals to educate themselves on an issue and then to contribute to it, all in under ten minutes. Despite its efficiency, the detriment of this system is that it perpetuates the idea that the signing of a change.org petition is all it takes to make a difference. Grassroots activism and petitioning, while absolutely fundamental parts of the pursuit of social justice are often only the inciting steps in the lengthy and usually complicated process of creating lasting change. In 2014, in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice, to name just a few, an international movement protesting police brutality began with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. The issue of racially induced police brutality became a relevant topic of debate in the presidential election that followed, and protests took place worldwide. This movement is winning a major battle in the war against racism and much of this success was owed to its sensational presence on social media. Internal objects are the most important because they influence the individuals self, relationships they engage in, and the attachment these individuals form within those relationships (Murdock, 2013, 83). These internal objects determine how we relate to people (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Internalized objects also represent how individuals view themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Despite the brevity of its existence, the Populist movement exercised a profound influence on subsequent U.S. political life. Almost all the Populist demands, which at one time were widely viewed as radical and contradictory to America s free enterprise system, were eventually enacted into law. The Progressive Movement was an outgrowth of previous reform eras, including the ideas first presented by the Populists. While many Progressives were originally anti Populists, they eventually came to believe that the large corporations and other monopolies that they were trying to reform were similar to the farmer s revolts against the railroads and commercial practices and regulations of the government. As a continuation of populist ideology, the progressive movement accomplished a great feat with the passing of the Interstate Commerce Act and the Sherman Antitrust Act. This requires choices to realistically be made, as determined by the country s economic system. The economic system basically refers to the allocative mechanism by which the people, businesses and government of a country make choices. Economists have recognized three distinct types of economic system the capitalist economy, the socialist economy and the mixed economy (Bamford Grant 2010). These words were spoken by Benjamin Franklin, one of our nation s founding fathers, when the United States was still a newly independent country. Free speech, which is defined as the right to express any opinion in public without censorship or restraint by the government, is a subject that is still present in the minds of many people today. At one extreme of the spectrum is a group of folks that do not care the slightest bit about free speech issues and at another end is a group of people who will vehemently fight to protect their right to free speech. In December of 2000, the United States Congress passed the Children s Internet Protection Act (CHIPA), which is legislation that forced public and private libraries as well as schools that are federally funded through certain federal programs to install internet content blocking software for both child and adult users alike. If libraries and schools that chose to implement the internet blocking technology on their computers were compensated or benefited monetarily through additional government subsidy would have been fine, but when the government is federally mandating censorship it is a direct violation of individuals rights to free speech and expression guaranteed by the first amendment of the Bill of Rights to the Constitution of the United States of America. In an educational organizations letter to legislation, a strong opposition was expressed regarding the mandated censorware in schools and libraries across the nation. Several points were made in opposition to the internet content filters. The organization states that the new mandatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accordingly, tourism industry that meets the needs of today s tourists without taking away from the future generations the resource necessary to fulfill their own needs. Thus, the controversy exists over a definition for sustainable tourism development. The most widely quoted definition of sustainable development is the one provided by the Brundtland Report, the report says that sustainable development is development that meets the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, ( World Commission on Environment and Development,1987,p.43). According to Wall(1997) and Hunter(1995), two important ingredients are included in this statement: human needs and environmental limitations. However they can be summarized as follows: building tools to improve quality and efficiency in the pack department; analyzing our process of chasing CPT s and leading the SIOC testing at CHA1. I was able to build 3 tools, a Pack Head Count Macro (Appendix A B), a Pack Rate Puller Macro (Appendix C D), and a Planning Board for Outbound Macro (Appendix E F) all of these tools were created to be used on Day and Night Shift. I was able to analyze the process of chasing CPT s using two methods, a profitability analysis and analyzing the rates of packers. Finally, I helped start up and run SIOC testing at our site. To show the effectiveness of the three tools I have created, I will explain how the process worked before the tool I created, describe how my tool works, and then detail how it changed the process, for each tool. The analysis of chasing CPT s I will first talk about our current CPT chasing program, then walk through my two analyses. Then I will discuss how I set up SIOC testing, how I ensured it would continue running successfully and the plan I have put in place to ensure it continues effectively once I leave. Then I will talk about the benefits of each project. Finally, I will wrap up with a conclusion and acknowledgements. Dukakis and Mitchell present a weak ground in the article by giving an ineffective way that can solve the issue. The authors disagree with building a wall along the Mexican border as a solution to the illegal immigration problem (Dukakis Mitchell). There is a flaw in this solution because the authors believe that illegal immigrants will find a way to get into the United States even if there is a wall. This is a weak ground because it does not really support the claim, but it shows how an alternative effort are not really effective. Another poor evidence that is provided by the article is when the authors state that the minimum wage needs to be raise before enforcing the wage law and other basic labor standards (Dukakis Mitchell, 2006). • 24. Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is most definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories, cleansing toxins, and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple stages, from triggering a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages to it, the first being the state between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as drowsy sleep due to the muscles in the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit. In this stage the brainwaves transition from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal range of brain wavelengths when the body is awake, to less erratic alpha... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and beta waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has shut off all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime example of how the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing information. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists believe this is the reason infants sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible to being woken up by the slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and brain involvement some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information it receives during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. These norms include both appropriate and inappropriate values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that are expected of individuals under given circumstances (Lewis, 1969). They are neither static nor universal as they keep on changing with time and vary with respect to culture, class and groups. There are two different types of social norms, namely behavioral or descriptive norms and attitudinal or injunctive norms. Descriptive norms are defined as actions and behaviors that are depicted by individuals in a social group setting. These norms are informal and originate from the day to day social interactions hence are neither enforced by the justice system nor other formal bodies (Cook, 2003).Behavioral norms attract no social sanctions for non conformity with the norms. Injunctive norms on the other hand are beliefs and expectations of how individuals or people should behave within a group setting under given situations. Individuals tend to conform to attitudinal norms out of fear of possible interdictions as a result of not following them. The general darkness present throughout the movie is embodied in the plot which reveals the moral bankruptcy of the main characters. Violence against women is seen everywhere in the world, especial those who live in more patriarchal society. We are in a world where we see violence against women as a big issue but we have done very little to dissolve it. Violenceagainst women is everywhere, at home, at the workplace, and even outside, in the places in between. Violence against women does not discriminate, it touches every race and at every age. Many violence against women are left without punishment. No matter how small or how big the violence is, it needs to be addressed. Violence against women is very much workplace as any other place. Violence against women is mostly seen when the person initiating violence is in a higher position then a women. This leads to many acts of violence left unpunished or resolved. Because those initiating the violence is mostly malewho are the boss or the manager, females do not speak up and report it. Females will most likely not report it because they will not like to lose their job, they would believe no one will believe them, and it would cost to much drama and talk in the workplace. Symptoms And Treatment Of Cerebral Palsy Words like incurable, permanent, handicap, and special needs may make cerebral palsy seem like some big, scary disease, but with modern treatments and surgeries, the disorder can be made extremely manageable. Because of all of this, people with cerebral palsy have trouble with speaking, eating, moving, learning, and controlling eye movements (Eurostemcell). One of the most common side effects of cerebral palsy is spasticity. Spasticity causes increased muscle tone and tension. Some effects of spasticity are inhibition of movement, muscle growth, and protein synthesis, limited stretching of muscles in daily activities, muscle and joint deformities (Cerebral Palsy). If left alone, severe spasticity can lead to permanently stiff muscles (Bunch 32). Approximately 80 out of 100 patients with cerebral palsy have varying degrees of spasticity (Center). While there is currently no cure for cerebral palsy, a wide variety of treatments are available (Cerebral Palsy). Hamlet and Queen Gertrude have a rocky relationship throughout the story., since he resents her for marrying her husband s brother Claudius after he murdered the King (young Hamlet s father, King Hamlet). Gertrude reveals no guilt in her marriage with Claudius. The immediacy of her second marriage suggest that there may be some question as to whether or not she was involved in the murder. Rawlings won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939 for her novel, The Yearling, for her deliberate use of sensory details, figurative language, and artful syntax. The appliance of sensory details throughout the novel enhance the story by depicting a vivid image of the characters and their situations. On page 224, Rawlings describes the events of the morning of the storm. The fawn came to Jody s bed and poked its muzzle against his face. The contrast of the wet, cold nose and Jody s warm face simulate the change of the setting from calm and warm to story and cold. • 45. Don Delillo s White Noise Why is naming things so hard for humans to do? Why does it matter? What difference does a name make? These are all questions raised in Don DeLillo s White Noise. This novel teaches how to deal with these uncertainties in many different ways. This postmodern take on the human race and their reality of the world discusses why the naming of things has such a high impact. DeLillo suggests this matters because it all comes back to simulacrum, perspective, and questions the reality of these things due to all the different perspectives. The truth is reality does not change, reality stays the same; it is simply perspective. Ultimately White Noise allows readers to ponder on the problem of naming and evaluate solutions to the world of uncertainty. DeLillo uses this postmodern setting to argue that the problem is not the name of something, it is how the name effects people s perspective and reminds them that despite the name there is no access to the absolute truth. These given titles and names engender a certain aura and disposition for themselves that cause either excitement or disappointment. In China, over 100,000 government enforcers work to censor or block unwanted information from Chinese and foreign websites. Much of this information being shot down includes talk of democracy, the very opposite of the Chinese Communist Party s ideas. Censorship of internet and media in China has been brought by its Communist government who have wanted to shield the Chinese people from undesired ideas, such as democracy, that could start a large revolt of citizens demanding government reforms. On October 1, 1949, Mao Zedongfounded the People s Republic of China after he and his Communist supporters defeated the nationalists, beginning a new era for China of strict totalitarian rule. When Mao died in 1976, the country was left in ruins from Mao s failed plans. A new leader, Deng Xiaoping, emerged and made reforms allowing open market capitalism in the economy that changed China into a powerful country. Yet, Deng stayed with a totalitarian government that still had harsh crackdowns such as the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre and today censorship law. Some may argue that it is necessary the Chinese government continue to censor foreign websites and information in order to ensure the public s safety and trust. • 51. Black Elk And The Struggle Of Faith Black Elk and the Struggle of Faith The story of Nicholas Black Elk was one that was reluctantly told, a Lakota medicine man, a visionary of his own sort. Written by John G. Neihardt, Black Elk Speaks captures the essence of what the Lakota culture based its teachings off of, as well as exhibiting who Black Elk really was. When Neihardt began his dialogues with Black Elk he knew which questions to ask, his plan was clear from the beginning. There were choices made by Neihardt that seem controversial, such as why he decided to end his book at the Battle of Wounded Knee instead of continuing through Black Elk s life and his conversion to Catholicism. The steps taken by Neihardt succeeded in portraying Black Elk s own story, and the importance of his vision on his life. Black Elk himself can be looked upon as a character within an all encompassing realm of change. From the time that he was a boy he had been instilled with the fear of the Wasichu , as well as the virtues of the Lakota religion. A short way into the telling of his story, Black Elk shares with Neihardt that at the age of 9, he had a vision. As rudimentary as it sounds, this vision can be attributed with shaping Black Elk s whole life. Black Elk s recollection of the vision is impeccable, not a detail goes unremembered. War is not wrong, but it is wrong if waged for the wrong reasons. Was The Trojan War righteous? The Bible says, Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).
