The Rising Increase of the College Drop Out Rate
The Rising Increase of the College Drop Out Rate
Less than two thirds of those who start college in America finish. The almost fifty percent that don t
finish college drop out for various reasons such as financial issues, family issues, maturity, lack of self
motivation and distractions. Some even feel as though college is scam, making us rack up debt to try
and get a well paying job just to pay off their accumulated debt.
The top reason leading to most drop outs is financial issues. Most people in America can t afford to
pay for college on their own and need the help of grants or aids. The government makes it very
difficult to obtain financial aid with such strict criteria that has to be met to be able to sufficiently pay

They lose that extra motivation or push to get their school work completed with their parents no

The professors aren t down the throats of their students either. The professors are not telling students
to do their work and pushing them; they re getting paid regardless, fail or pass. If the student fail that
benefits them, they then are getting paid again to teach the student the same material over again.
Having a decline in outside motivation mixing with the student s own personal lack of motivation
really takes a plummet on the student school wise.
Also a lot of students get caught up in the partying which poses as a huge distraction to students.
There are constantly parties on big universities which draws the attention of the student off schooling.
They lose their own desire and push to do their school work and allow themselves to get distracted by
what s going on around them.
Some students even get caught up in drugs, especially the ever so popular drug marijuana. Marijuana
which leaves most people feeling fatigue and lazy has a huge impact on the student s performance. All
of this can take the student away from their schooling and doing their work which would result in
them doing badly in classes leaving them feeling hopeless in classes causing them to drop out.
All of this mixing in with some people honestly just do not have the maturity level for college. They

Thyroid Hypothyroidism
The thyroid is an endocrine gland located at the base of the neck. It produces thyroid hormones which
effect the bodies metabolic rate and protein synthesis. The thyroid hormones include triiodothyronine
and thyroxine which are made from iodine and tyrosine. These hormones are controlled by thyroid
stimulating hormone which is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland at the base of the brain. When
these hormones are produced in an insufficient amount hyperthyroidism occurs. Hypothyroidism can
be subdivided into two classes; primary disease which affects the thyroid gland itself or central disease
which results from dysfunction of the pituitary or hypothalamus. The causes of hypothyroidism
include autoimmune thyroiditis, radioiodine ablation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

range from 100 150 micrograms per day and 125 200 micrograms for men. Lower doses of
levothyroxine may be ordered for patients with symptoms of hypothyroidism but have a thyroid
stimulating hormone greater and 10 mIU/L or in those patients that have a partially functioning
thyroid gland. The primary role of the nurse is to educate the patient prior to starting levothyroxine
therapy that the levothyroxine should be taken as prescribed every day in the morning at least thirty
minutes prior to eating breakfast. Some patients are allowed to take levothyroxine at bedtime only if
their last dietary intake is four to five hours prior to bedtime. Serum thyroid stimulating hormone
levels should be monitored to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. The first recheck of the
serum thyroid stimulating hormone levels should be performed after two months or after the start of
levothyroxine to allow the body to time to reset. Based on the recheck of the serum thyroid
stimulating hormone the dose of levothyroxine may be adjusted by 12.5 25 micrograms and the
laboratory test repeated again in two to three months. For slight adjustment needs the physician may
instruct the patient to skip a dose or two every week since levothyroxine has a long half life. Once

The Rights Of Same Sex Couples
Soppho: Have you heard, Socrates, that our government is intending to extend the rights of marriages
to same sex couples? Under that change, gay partners will then be recognized equally as heterosexual
husbands and wives.
Socrates: Yes, but politicians and those in positions of influence have no business to mess with the
standard of God relating to marriage, let alone decide to debate this issue as if it is open for discussion.
Because of the way they are boasted, they don t have a proper perspective on themselves and where
they fit in this life. The standard is clear by the way that men and women are made, so the coupling of
heterosexuals is shown to be divine.

Crazy, right? Road to equality!
Socrates: Here s what you have to understand about bans on interracial marriage: they were designed
to divide the races, and that was and is wrong. Traditional marriage encourages and supports bringing
the genders together, which is good. Ethnicity is not a fundamental merit or facet of marriage. But
gender is. Therefor, including interracial couples does not draw an analogy for the redefinition of
marriage. Interracial, opposite sex couples can still produce biological children together. Same sex
marriage is a redefinition of marriage that s something very different.
Soppho: First, you have some things right (tradition, racism) but fail to provide an example of when it
is ever okay to pass a form of discrimination against gay people. Second, if restricting the legality of
marriage based on race is what you say it is racial discrimination why ban the legal recognition of a
choice of partner on the basis of gender? That would qualify as sex discrimination.
Socrates: Must our jurisdiction then permit the marriage between polygamous parties? If marriage is
redefined so that the sex of spouses is irrelevant, why stop there? It can be further refined so that even
the age and blood relation of the spouses is also irrelevant. If marriage is a fundamental rights issue,
there can be no grounds for saying no to polygamists or non consenting unions.

Money in the form of tuition, government funding, and personal donations allow institutions to fund
programs and ultimately make the college experience enjoyable to current as well as prospective
students. Historically black colleges lack both the government funding, personal donations which
makes it much harder for them to appeal to students. Due to lack of funding, many HBCUs are dated
facilities, lack scholarship opportunities and offer fewer programs for students looking to apply. Many
HBCUs have loss accreditation in a number of programs with contributes to the decline of enrollment
and furthermore a loss of potential revenue. However, regardless of the harsh reality many of these

Crossbreeding And Religion
Our Pleasure Or Theirs?
Life. Mixed Families. Morals. People worldwide are debating and battle over the effects of
crossbreeding. Crossbreeding is the science of altering DNA through the process of breeding two
different animals. In order for these mutations to be possible the number of chromosomes each animal
has must match. Some well known examples of this include the liger which is a cross between a lion
and tiger, and the beefalo which is a mutation of a cow and a buffalo. Many people crossbreed for
various reasons. However this practice has superb effects and also many disastrous effects. Do people
do this for the animals or for humans. It is the main reason for debates. Does it help or hurt the animal.

One main con is how unpredictable it can be. The size is hard to guess, temperaments can be the
opposite of what you want and some unexpected genetic disorders can occur. Animals with these
problems often become a financial burden to the owner as they become expensive to care for. With the
size being so big or small effects can happen. If the animal is big with a wild temperament it can
attack and kill. This is bad and not what the breeder wanted. If it is too small it can get health
problems that they normally wouldn t get. And this is why crossbreeding must be stopped, the animal
can be harmed. And for what cause. HUMAN PLEASURE. If it helps the animal crossbreeding is

Controversial Views In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
Controversial Viewpoints Presented in Wuthering Heights
The plot and ongoing legacy of Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights leaves readers with both the feeling
of astonishment and discomfort. Unlike most romantic stories of the 19th century, Wuthering Heights
employs the role of a disturbing novel that advertises itself as a love story. It portrays dark, gothic, and
often times morbid views of love and compassion. The social s dominance emerges in too much pain
and violence to become a comfort zone, the psychic s persistence ensures unquiet slumbers after all
the pain inflicted. Wuthering Heights, in other words, allows its aesthetics to complicate ideological
preference: imparting a complex reading experience liberal anguish creates ideological ... Show more

...she cannot do otherwise than as she does, she must marry... because there is no one else for her to
marry and a lady must marry. (Gilbert 97) During this time period, being a woman means you are
powerless, and your only option in life is to marry. To gain power, women would often marry a man of
a high social or financial status. Marrying Heathcliff, a lowly servant, would only decrease Catherine s
own status. This social constraint explains why Catherine betrayed her own heart. (Bronte, 37) As a
result of this betrayal, a heartbroken Heathcliff begins to formulate a plot for revenge. For seventeen
years Heathcliff wreaks his vengeance on Hindley, Edgar, and Isabella and on their children Hareton,
young Cathy, and Linton. The account of the trip is not pretty. Even in the love scenes before the elder
Cathy s death there is a savage passion which strikes terror to the heart of the beholder, unlike any
other scenes in the course of English fiction. (Watson 36) The love between Heathcliff and Catherine
takes a swift and unpleasant turn as both parties actively try to sabotage each other. It is ironic that a
social convention, such as marriage, that is meant to foster love and strengthen familial relationships,
has actually destroyed a genuine love and a family connection. Most readers find this moral conflict,
which was triggered by the social and financial expectations created through marriage during the time
period, to be highly unsettling, regardless of their viewpoint on the

Comparative Analysis Of Germany And South Korea

Comparative Analysis Paper Education systems are important in our society today as they shape how
we teach our future generations the knowledge and importance of learning. Education systems and
trademarks are identified and established by one s culture, history, tradition and many other practices.
Germany and South Korea are typical examples where each nation possesses unique educational
trademarks given its own geography, history, and custom practices in its country. Therefore, since
Germany and South Korea have extremely different values in terms of culture, history, and social
beliefs, both educational trademarks and ecological system cannot and should not be compared on the
educational scale.
Germany s Educational Trademark Germany is a big country. It contains a total of 357,021 square
kilometer of total land and water. (World Atlas) Given such geographical reason, Germany has a large
educational system that applies to most young people in different stages of their school periods. This
includes Haupptschule, Realschule, Gymnasium, Gesamtschule, and Berufsschule, Parents can choose
where they decide their children should go to receive formal education. Later on, some go to
universities, most of them do not. The government financially supports children to attend a university
free of charge. As some of them go about on universities, most children choose a major or a career

Summary Of Her Third Marriage And Tea Cake Woods
Her third marriage was to Vergible Tea Cake Woods. This marriage was a choice and Janie was highly
cautious before deciding to be with him. Similarly to Joe she did not know what to expect from being
with Tea Cake. Janie went into this marriage having hopes of achieving true love and her idea of
marriage. She hoped that she would be able to put her values first and that she did. Tea Cake and Janie
gone hunting. Tea Cake and Janie gone fishing. Tea Cake and Janie gone to Orlando to the movies.
Tea Cake and Janie gone to a dance. Tea Cake making flower beds in Janie s yard and seeding the
garden for her. Chopping down that tree she never did like by the dining room window. All those signs
of possession. Tea Cake in a borrowed car teaching Janie to drive. Tea Cake and Janie playing
checkers; playing coon can; playing Florida flip on the store porch all afternoon as if nobody else was
there. Day after day and week after week. (Hurston 129). Tea Cake was about 12 years younger than
Janie, which is probably why he was so free and adventurous. He was not as traditional as Logan and
Joe. Tea Cake allowed her the freedom and support she needed. He allowed exploration of her self
identity. Unlike her other husbands, Tea Cake was encouraging. He encouraged her to follow her own
interests and with that she was fulfilled. Although she was fulfilled with Tea Cake and able to openly
explore her values, he was similar to her other husband s in many ways.

Ragtime Research Paper
Ragtime
American culture involves myriads of customs and traditions inherent exclusively to the USA. Except
for religion, clothes, behavior, beliefs, or food, which define culture as a unique phenomenon, music
enormously contributes to its existence in any period of the nation s development. Early American
music is famous for a distinctive genre popular during the mid 1890s, called ragtime, notable for its
special syncopation and composers.
Ragtime used to be a solely American style of musical works composed of three or four strikingly
different sections, in other words, strains, one of which was 16 or 32 measures in length. Due to an
astonishing syncopation, namely replacement of the beat from its regular course of meter, ragtime
compositions became both threatening and thrilling to the American youngsters. The displaced beat
caused the listeners to feel hyperactive as well as evoked strong associations with so called low class
music of the Negroes ( History of ragtime, n.d.).
Although ragtime was composed for a piano, modern chronicles mention a significant role of the
banjo in the development of this musical genre. In 1881, a writer Lafcadio Hearn noted that the blacks
used the piano as a banjo, producing new ragged rhythms, later called banjo figuration ( History of
ragtime, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Disinterest In High School
Disinterest in High School
Throughout my years in the classroom, student interest in academics has decreased tremendously.
Moreover, no longer are students interested in sitting quietly, taking notes while the teacher
disseminates information. Students want and need active engagement. They want to participate fully
in the acquisition of knowledge. In this 21 century world, educators need to find new and innovative
methods to galvanize students in becoming active participants in their education.
Who Am I?
I have been a classroom teacher for twenty three years, during which I have taught in Las Vegas, NV;
Ontario, Ca; Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and Turlock, CA. I have taught all grade levels nine through
twelve. Currently, I teach eleventh grade American Literature and AP Language and Composition at

The Community
Turlock is a mid sized, conservative city that boasts a population of just under 73,000 residents;
however, it has an extremely small town feel as it is a highly agricultural area. There are two high
schools, two junior high schools, and eight elementary schools. According to the United States 2016
census, 23% of Turlock residents have a bachelor s degree or greater, 63% work in the civilian labor
force, 8% are unemployed, 18% live in poverty, and the median household income is approximately
$50, 000.00 per year. Pitman High School (PHS) has a large student body of more than 2,000 students.

The Definition Of Marriage And Family Relationships Essay
What is the definition of marriage in the Bible? Better yet what is the definition of family in the Bible?
In Scripture there are many families which could be studied in order to better answer this question, but
some of the most prominent choices are Abraham s family, David s family, and Solomon s family.
Each of these families in turn had their own sets of issues and problems, but there are also Biblical
solutions to these problems which shall be address through the course of this paper. But, before this is
done it is important to take note of what God s definitions are.
To begin, I will start by explaining what my understanding of marriage and family relationships
according to scripture are supposed to look like. Now, throughout both the Old Testament and New
Testament many commandments are given to both children and parents. For instance, one of the most
obvious commands given to children was, Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live
long in the land the Lord your God is giving you, (Ex. 20:12, New International Version (NIV)). To
honor someone means to treat him or her with respect and put them in a place of high esteem. Honor
and respect means a child should not speak back to their parents, they should not curse out their
parents in any way, and in general they should respect their parents wishes. But, going further than
this Colossians 3:20 says, Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord, (Col.
3:20, NIV).

The Different Types Of Legislatures
The different types of legislatures vary from state to state. Professionalism is defined in our Textbook,
Governing States and Localities, as the Process of providing legislators with the resources they need
to make politics their main career, such as making their positions full time or providing them with full
time staff (Smith and Greenblatt). About 50 percent of states are in between full time, well paid, and
large staffed, and part time, low pay, and small staffed. While states like California, New York, and
Pennsylvania are on the high end in terms of professionalism in legislature, New Hampshire is known
as one of the six least professional. In the United States there are 28 Republican controlled legislatures
and 17 Democrat controlled legislatures, and 5 split legislatures ( Full and Part Time Legislatures ).
You will soon see that New Hampshire is in the minority amongst the states in having a split
legislature. Currently New Hampshire is one of four states with a Democratic Governor, Maggie
Hassan, and a split legislature ( 2014 State and Legislative Partisan Composition ).
The New Hampshire capitol building is in the city Concord. New Hampshire is the 42nd biggest state
in terms of population, holding about 1,323,459 people. The state is made up of ten counties with a
total area of 9,304 square miles. It was the 9th state added to the Union on June 21, 1788 ( New

Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment...
Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the
encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At
Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in
California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused
mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife,
water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The
beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in
1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being
poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land
developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash
that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which
devastate the marine life population.
Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological history
of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The beach was one of the

The Importance Of Medication Errors
Introduction Medication errors result in over 700,000 emergency department visits each year in the
United States, and nearly two thirds of these hospitalizations are due to accidental overdose (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Missed doses or overdoses are one of the problems related
to medication safety (Anthony, 2015). A medication error is any act or occurrence which causes or
leads to a patient receiving inappropriate medication treatment (Potter Perry, 2014). Errors can occur
due to failure to follow procedures related to medication administration, lack of communication
between healthcare staff, deciphering illegible handwriting and underlying system factors, such as
distractions and time constraints (Potter Perry, 2014). Technological advances such as networked
computers and other innovations have been placed in hospitals to study its impact on medication
adherence; the following paper will compare and contrast these findings. First Article Summary The
first article aims to alleviate the issue by implementing a bar code verification technology within an

Determination of Specific Heat
Determination of specific heat
Capacity of a solid by electrical method
Introduction
Thermal conductivity heat is transferred as a consequence of temperature difference between 2 bodies,
heat energy passes form a hotter to the colder body. Specific heat capacity is the amount of heat
energy required in joules to raise 1kg of a substance by 1 degree Celsius, different substances absorb
heat energy at different rates not all substances require the same amount of heat energy to increase the
internal temperature of a substance this depends on the mass and the material it s self. To demonstrate
specific heat capacity of a solid an experiment was carried out using 1kg aluminium mass and 1kg
copper mass heat was conducted to the masses by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this is that copper s molecules are more densely packed and so it is a good conductor of
heat, and when 1 kg of each substance are compared visually it is easily seen that 1kg of copper mass
is far smaller than 1kg of aluminium mass. Aluminium is more efficient at radiating or dispersing heat
as it is less dense which also makes it a lighter material.
Overall this experiment has successfully reached its objectives however some errors have occurred as
shown in the experimental errors where the experimental values do not match the actual values of the
materials this could be caused by heat loss through the material which could be reduced with better

Different Kinds Of Information Involving Macro Environment
In this project I am going to offer different kinds of information involving Macro environment (or
known as PEST) information collected in the past 10 years till present, such as, Economic growth and
decline, social values and of course the Warsaw lifestyle, demographic information and graphics
projecting different data such as age range, family status and the various ethnic groups that we can
find in the city. Second part of the project will involve information about the Micro environment (or
know as Five Forces) such as local businesses, civic groups and associations, government information,
among other interesting data that would be great to know before visiting the great city of Warsaw.
Before getting into deep information about the city, I am going to first talk about many interesting
facts about Warsaw, Poland, which many people may not know when they first go to visit this city but
I do find important for people to learn the history so they can really appreciate the city once they
arrive. Warsaw, known for its incredible history, with its first settlement in the 11th century but the
city was founded in 1300 and came under the Polish rule in 1526. It became the capital of Poland in
1596, taking over Krakow. The city of Warsaw during the World War II was almost completely
destroyed losing approximately 17% of its population and between 17th 18th century was
reconstructed with mainly old architectural style. When the Nazi occupied this city, around 350,000

Aluminum Foil Lab Report
Feasibility Study of Producing Potassium Alum via Aluminum Foil Lujia Cheng and Shalin
Presgraves CHEM 1065, Experiment No.5, October 11, 2016 Abstract. Alum is one of the oldest and
the most explored substance in human history. Dozens of ways were discovered to produce it. One
way of synthesizing potassium alum was covered in this report. In this synthesis, aluminum foil, an
everyday material, was the reactant. This synthesis includes two main steps. First, dissolves aluminum
in potassium hydroxide. Second, treat it with sulfuric acid and filter out the product. This synthesis
was found out to be an efficient way to produce small amount of potassium alum under a laboratorial
environment. Introduction. Alum can be specific to one compound, ... Show more content on

Aluminum foils (0.48 g in total) was weighted and dissolved into boiled KOH (20 ± 0.02 mL)

solution turned into a black suspension. After fully reacted, vacuum filtrate, the suspension separated
to black residue and transparent filtrate. Residue was discarded and the acidity (pH = 9) of solution
was measured at this time. Slowly adding sulfuric acid (about 5 mL of 9M) into the solution, white
precipitate appeared. When most precipitate appeared, acid (1.4 ± 0.06 mL) was added. Acidity (pH =

precipitate mostly dissolved. All precipitate dissolved after heating. Acidity was measured again (pH =

The Battle of Bannockburn happened in 1314 just outside of Stirling, Scotland. It was a war between
the large English army and the much smaller Scottish army. The Scottish showed they were a force to
be reckoned with when they took Stirling Castle for ransom. The English were trying to get the castle
back from the Scottish which caused the Battle of Bannockburn Leading up to the Battle of
Bannockburn, quite a few things happened. In 1290, Margaret, the maid of Norway , the heir to the
Scottish throne, died when she was eight years old. Her death left Scotland without a ruler. The
desperate Scottish called on their neighbors in England to help them find their next ruler. The English
King, Edward I, picked the new Scottish king. INSERT ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Scottish crowned Bruce as king on May 25, 1306, in the Abbey of Scones.
Then, Edward I died in 1307, and Edward II stayed away from Scotland. Bruce, however, wanted all
of the Scottish land back from England. He began to take the land back, and by 1314, the Scottish held
all the castles except five. These five castles included Stirling Castle, which is located just outside of
the town of Bannockburn, Scotland.
In the summer of 1314, Edward Bruce, Robert Bruce s younger brother, began the siege of Stirling
Castle. The English men inside the castle called for help from their country. The men inside the castle
were so desperate to escape, they created the Stirling Castle Agreement. The agreement stated that if
no help came by midsummer, the castle would give way. Robert Bruce was determined to get Stirling
Castle, and he began to prepare an army in case the English sent help. Although the agreement
between the Scottish and the English inside the castle, both sides wanted a fight.
The battle began on July 24, 1314. The English army traveled for many days to reach Stirling Castle.
The Scottish knew the English were coming, and the English knew the Scottish were spying on them.
The English army was much larger. The 8,000 Scottish men did not come anywhere near the 20,000
English men. Not only did the English have more men, but they were better trained than the Scottish
army. However, the Scottish army had a strong bond and a battle plan. As a

Exploring the Importance of Traditions in Richard...
Any relationship goes two ways to keep our life in balance, and also affect our life whichever of
family or culture. As Bernice Weissbourd says: Because it s not only a child is inseparable from the
family in which he lives, but that the lives of families are determined by the community in which they
live and the cultural tradition from which they come. In Keeper n me, for instance, Garnet Raven who

This quote also foreshadows that he will find a place to belong as far as staying on the reservation to
keep in touch with his family and Native culture. During a positive lesson of Native culture, he starts
to fit in the society and gets acceptance of people. His mom gives him the shirt that he had on the day
he arrived at reserve to remind him of where he came from and how he wanted to be. Although his
mom revamps the shirt that the sleeves were cut back regular, the long pointed collar was gone and the
ribbons ran across the chest and back and down the arms (Wagamese 301). He learns the traditional
ways of Native and makes the connection with people, especially his family, and now he changes the
way that he used to dressing. Everyone needs family in order to find themselves, no one could be his
own person without knowing himself. The surroundings compel Garnet to learn Whites instead of his
own culture cause he lost connection and himself. Setting is one aspect of the culture that affect
Garnet s identity in social way. The setting of the book is very important in Garnet s character
development and personal growth. The relationship between Garnet and his family is detached
because he was raised by foster homes instead of his family, that makes him a lot differences between

What Is Environmental Degradation
4.2 BACKGROUND The increasing severity of global environmental challenges has prompted
increased attention to the relationship between international trade and environmental degradations. On
the one hand, there is a growing strand of literature on environmental degradations that focuses on
emissions relocated by trade. As shown in the comprehensive surveys of Jayadevappa and Chhatre
(2000), Wiedmann et al. (2007) and Sato (2012), there has been a growing interest since the 1970s for
the interactions between trade and environment. A number of studies were carried out to estimate the
physical amount of pollutants embodied in trade. Early contributions were made by Walter (1973) and

(2011), which are discussed below. Muller and Mendelsohn (2007; 2009) use a so called Air Pollution
Emissions Experiments and Policy (APEEP) model to calculate the marginal damage associated with
emitting an additional ton of pollution in the US. Air emission data used by the authors is provided by
the US Environmental Protection Agency s National Emission Inventory (NEI), which encompasses
all anthropogenic emissions of six air pollutants (SO2, PM2.5, PM10, NOx, VOC, and NH3) in 48
states of the US (USEPA, 2006; 2009). The APEEP model first connects emissions of air pollutants to
physical effects, by employing the USEPA national emission inventory of air pollution. Those physical
effects include adverse effects on human health, decreased timber and agriculture yields, reduced
visibility, accelerated depreciation of materials, and reductions in recreation services. Then, the model
translates the physical effects into monetary terms using standard estimates of mortality and morbidity
risks, market values of goods or services, and results of other valuation studies (e.g. Chestnut and
Rowe, 1990; McClelland et al., 1993). Muller and Mendelsohn (2007; 2009) first calculate baseline
damages of the year 2002 s emissions, and then calculate damages of one additional ton of emission.
This procedure is repeated for each of the six pollutants in each of the 10,000 different sources
locations. The estimated marginal damage,

Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS
Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis
Case Recap
Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish
industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago.
Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized
nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies commercializes a genetically modified fish
called GloFish, which appear to glow in the dark (Mueller, 2010). GloFish are zebrafish that have
been genetically modified with fluorescent colors. They are the first genetically modified animals to
become publicly available as pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms
(GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant to
approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and distribution
strategies.
Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically
modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three
colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011).
Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial
number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the
production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval of
Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish and
makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them.
Identifying the Root Problem Components
Yorktown Technologies have several issues that may affect marketing and distribution. The issues are
geographical distribution, production, supply and demand, environmental concerns, and retail outlets.
First, GloFish are not approved for distribution and sale in California. California is an

The last learning style that VARK offers is read/write learning style. You prefer to write things down
and receive handouts on new material. The library is a preferred area of study, and choice when
gathering information on a topic.
After completing the VARK questionnaire this author feels that the results were pretty accurate. She
feels that she learns best when applying areas of study to real life experience and to personal
experiences. She also finds herself writing many things down, high lighting, and drawing out things
when trying to remember something. This author took another survey on another website to see what
the preferred learning style showed. After completion it showed this author is a visual and
tactile/kinesthetic learner, which matched the VARK results.
In the future there are a few things this author needs to work on to improve her study habits. Although
this writer has in the past used the learning styles previously mentioned, she may have not been using
them correctly. Why highlighting can help to pinpoint the main idea or important information, there is
a thing as highlighting too much. This author needs to be able to determine what is pertinent and when
something is not as important. In the past she has highlighted too much information, and perhaps has
highlighted the same information twice. Also note taking so be minimized, and not writing everything
down, which she has done in the past.

College Football Is Better Than High School Football
What comes to mind when you think of a college football player? They were the best one their team in
high school. They are headed toward the National Football League. They must have worked really
hard in high school to be where they are. High school football is easy, because if you are good then
you have so much more fun playing the game. In high school, there is homecoming, powderpuff, and
senior night that gives everyone something to remember. College football there s about one hundred
players that are just as good or better than you so that brings in the competition. Although college
football is harder than high school football, there is more competition, intensity, and rigorous plays;
high school football is more enjoyable. Having that many players on your football team is
overwhelming at first, but you get used to it after a while. Being an athlete, you always want to be the
best on the field at all times. That is just a college football players mentality. When they are put into a
situation where everyone is better than them; that makes them work harder to be better. When that all
comes together it makes the team better on both sides of the ball. With everyone coming together, that
creates competition and grudges towards the players. Having that grudge make a college player
jealous about the starting position. They tend to start doing more and more everyday to earn that
starting spot and to get on the travel squad. In high school, there was not that much competition, so it
was pretty much set in stone that the starters were going to start the whole season. That also creates
competition. Although there is competition in high school football, some players quit caring about the
sport and end up not coming out for the team in the future. In college that does not happen, because
the players are on a scholarship to be their and they do not want to lose that scholarship. That makes
everyone work hard and that is why college football practices are so intense; because everyone is there
for a reason. When you think about intensity, what comes to mind? Adrenaline rushing, excitement
everywhere. That is what a college practice is all about. Everyone is highly concentrated in every drill
and play that has been

Polysaccharide K is approved in Japan to treat cancer. It is administered most commonly in tea or in
capsule form. In some studies, conducted between 1978 and 1981, researchers found that patients who
received polysaccharide K in addition to their chemotherapy treatment lived longer than those who
only received chemotherapy. Later in 1994, another study suggested that polysaccharide K helps to
support the immune system of patients while they are receiving chemotherapy. Again in 2008, an
additional study found that polysaccharide K not only supported the immune system, but strengthened
it as well. Furthermore, with all of the research that has been done on these PSK containing
mushrooms, very few adverse side effects have been found. Unfortunately, even though the USFDA is

An Unequal Distribution Of Wealth And Power Across The Nation
Living in America, I have always been aware of fact that there is an unequal distribution of wealth and
power across the nation. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap between the rich
and the poor. It was made clear in the video Wealth Inequality in America , that the top 1% has more
power and wealth than the middle and poor classes. The rich can get away with not paying their taxes
and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest people are down to the loose
change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations today have more privileges in
America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are being excluded from important
decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding of what s going on with the wealth
distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two completely different things. So you may ask,
what s the reason behind this inequality? The answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations
such as Bank of America, Nike, Google, Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have
also completely diminished the original intent of our Founding Fathers. According to Collin and
Yeskel s Economic Apartheid in America , it s sad to say that many Americans are unaware of these
things and it s starting to affect us as a country day by day. But while the truth of the economy may be
difficult to understand, Collins, Yeskel, and Perkins clarified and changed my views on the

Zeus Essay
Zeus, most likely the most renowned god of all gods, the mighty god of lightning has taken part in
some of the most widely known myths of all times. Zeus has taken part in many Greek and Roman
myths alike, either as Zeus or as his Roman counterpart of Jupiter. Unlike most gods in mythology
though, Zeus is the main character in almost all of the myths he is mentioned in. Whether the myth is
about his epic clash against the Titans, his fight against the Giants or even about his extramarital
affairs, Zeus always seems to come out of these conflicts unaffected and triumphant. When examining
Zeus character though, it is important to note that Zeus is a god that exhibits human characteristics
throughout most of his myths. Growth is one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Hera found out about Zeus dirty deeds, she convinced Semele to ask Zeus for proof of his true
nature. Zeus agreed and presented himself to her in his true form, Zeus true glory however burned
Semele alive. (ML 301) This myth is a prime example of Zeus human tendencies of acting like a
common man as he gives in to his more primitive needs and cheats on Hera with Semele.
Another example of Zeus predisposition for not having control over his more human needs is the fact
that Aphrodite has power over him. Aphrodite, the very powerful goddess of love and lust, flaunts
about her alleged power over Zeus. This, however, angered Zeus and led to a very stern punishment
for Aphrodite. Zeus was growing tired of Aphrodite s arrogance, so he punished her by making her fall
in love with a mortal named Anchises.
Zeus affinity for being the main character of a myth is no different in the epic myth about his fight
against Cronus and the Titans or the Titanomachy. In this larger than life battle Zeus has to overthrow
his father Cronus and take his predestined place as king of the gods. In this myth however, Zeus has to
grow and overcome many challenges that stand in his way to greatness. Zeus has to ask for help from
his mother in order to be able to free his sibling from his father Cronus who had swallowed them
whole. After Zeus frees his siblings he has to face the mighty Titans, so he asks the Cyclops and the
Hecatonchires to aid him in this battle that lasts

There is no disputing that society is influenced by its choices of entertainment. Some ways in which
people are influenced are positive, but others are harmful. In the society we live in, the harmful ways
always outnumber the positive. If we gravitated toward the positive forms of entertainment a little

People hate the fact of the happening, not being with the popular crowd. Few teens try to develop
independent minds because that would cause them to be creative and different. That brings us to
another point that most popular music is neither unique nor creative. Just about all of the music
coming out now is generally the same. It lacks creativity because artists are just in it to make money,
not for the love of music. Society is force fed this bland music on a daily basis. Through radio stations
and the emergence of MTV, new hit songs come out every week and people digest them, claiming to
enjoy them just so that they appear to be versed on the latest on hit wonder groups. Since the music is
generally the same and really does not change that dramatically every week, album after album is put
out to fatten the wallets of wealthy producers. The more albums that are put out, the more money is
made, as consumers shell out millions every week for something new to listen to, but are merely
continuing to feed the frenzy of the popular music industry. Another harm this entertainment brings to
society is it gives the media an easy scapegoat. When some atrocity gains national attention, the first
thing that is thought of is music and entertainment. When a young boy burnt down his house because
he was watching Beavis and Butt Head, and they were playing with fire, the show was blamed. How
about we blame who are really at fault here the

Annotation Of Sophocles Dover Beach
Matthew Arnold begins Dover Beach with a beautiful and peaceful image of a sea at night, but by the
end of the poem he strips away the beauty, and shows the reader the nightmare, and horror behind the
calm ocean. The speaker describes a lovely scene with the water meeting the land, and the moon
glimmering off of the water, which creates a captivating image for the reader. The speaker even makes
the reader imagine the sounds of the beach Listen! you hear the grating roar (9). This puts the reader
on the beach with him, creating a peaceful, and blissful escape from the world for a moment. The
speaker creates an allusion to the an ancient playwright Sophocles, Heard it on the Aegean, and it
brought (16). This stanza forces the reader to go back in time, and realize the people that seem so far
because of years walked the same beaches, and observed the same seas. Arnold ... Show more content

The speaker describes it as sweet, but then he describes Of the night wind, down the vast edges drear
(27). The speaker sees the night as an evil, that howls around humans, in our lonely and vulnerable
world. Night is also the last word of the poem, which leaves the reader in the dark, lonely, confused,
faithless world, with feelings of abandonment, and fear. The moon is also a key part of the night,
bringing the light to the night, but the light does not seem completely good either. Where the sea
meets the moon blanched land (9). The speaker seems to be hinting that even the moon has evil in it;
blanched makes the moon seem unnaturally pale, and almost a little like death. The final two stanza
shows the speaker s opinion of the world related to faith, and it appears that the speaker has lost his
faith. And we here as on a darkling plain (35). This is a simile to the faithful ugliness of the world. The
speaker believes that the night he sees of calm and tranquility is an illusion, and the real world is the
roaring of the

The Sun Also Rises Response
But I could not sleep. There is no reason why because it is dark you should look at things differently
from when it is light. To hell there isn t! I figured that all out once, and for six months I never slept
with the electric light off. We are going to look at the fragmented world of jake from The Sun Also
Rises, by Ernest Hemingway. Jake is broken and feels like he is isolated from society. The author
through the story tells us how Jake feels about Brett, what type of people he associates himself with,
and his actions/words to each different group of people.
The author introduces Jake as a WW1 veteran. Later in chapter one Brett enters the scene and who she
is to Jake. Brett and Jake are a couple that are trying to make it work. Jake is castrated thanks to the
war. Their relationship is ironic as they both want to make the relationship work but know it will not.
Whenever Jake is with Brett he is agony knowing that he can t do anything about what has happened.

With all of these friends Jake is never left out of the picture. Jake goes to many parties or goes out to
eatalmost everyday. He brings Brett along when he wants to have company but with him being in
agony when he is around her he tries to leave her alone and not bother her. While jake is left alone one
night Jake comes to the realization of all of his problems and ends up crying for a long period of time.
With of the people he knows Jake still feels as he is alone and can t do anything. Helpless Jake not
only pushes Brett to meet other people he also pushes Cohn away. Cohn did not serve in the war but
knew Jake beforehand. Brett brings some of her friends to a small party and dances with some of them
as Jake sits and watches. Jake thinks to himself and doesn t like anyone in the room that she brought
and wishes he can hit anyone of them. With Jake losing Brett and pushing Cohn away, it shows how
his world is slowly falling

Comparing Colonial And Revolutionary American Writers
Colonial and revolutionary American writers had quite a few differences, yet were quite similar as
well. The dominant interests of revolutionary writers were political and social, whereas the interests of
colonial writers were mainly religious and economic. Most of the colonial writers such as John Smith
mostly fled from religious persecution in Europe. For example, those aboard the Mayflower had quite
a number of pilgrims who had fled from England to Holland, seeking religious freedom. These
Pilgrims jumped at the chance to go to the New World, where they could worship however they
please. Revolutionary writers, like Benjamin Franklin, sought freedom from tyranny: they focused on
breaking free from English rule and taxes. They did not only

The Greatest Challenges Of President George W. Bush
I have zero desire, just so you know, to be in the limelight. I don t think it s good for the country to
have a former president criticize his successor. You re not going to see me giving my opinions in the

the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the flight against the White House on September 11, 2001,

National Security Override Free Speech Analysis
Should national security override free speech?
Source 1 Peer Reviewed Journal
➢ Foner, E. (2004). Presentation by Eric Foner. In: Free Speech in Wartime Conference. [online]
Rutgers Law Journal, pp.939 946.
This presentation by Eric Foner is a transcript from a conference that was held in the United States in
2005. In this presentation, Foner speaks about the First Amendment of a citizens right to carry out free
speech, and how freedom of expression is limited by not only the US Government, but by other
individuals trying to silence the opinion of others. Foner also speaks about the fact that the US
Government has used national security as grounds to limit free speech in the past, which has many

Wyden spoke about this not only being a violation upon the Fourth Amendment (the right to privacy),
and suggests that citizens practicing their right to free speech does not come without consequence. The

phone calls and e mails and internet usage, and generally censor their right to release whatever
information they choose, or whatever opinions they

Under that change, gay partners will then be recognized equally as heterosexual husbands and wives. Because of the way they are boasted, they don t have a proper perspective on themselves and where they fit in this life. Therefor, including interracial couples does not draw an analogy for the redefinition of marriage. Interracial, opposite sex couples can still produce biological children together. Same sex marriage is a redefinition of marriage that s something very different. Soppho: First, you have some things right (tradition, racism) but fail to provide an example of when it is ever okay to pass a form of discrimination against gay people. Second, if restricting the legality of marriage based on race is what you say it is racial discrimination why ban the legal recognition of a choice of partner on the basis of gender? That would qualify as sex discrimination. Socrates: Must our jurisdiction then permit the marriage between polygamous parties? If marriage is redefined so that the sex of spouses is irrelevant, why stop there? It can be further refined so that even the age and blood relation of the spouses is also irrelevant. To gain power, women would often marry a man of a high social or financial status. Marrying Heathcliff, a lowly servant, would only decrease Catherine s own status. This social constraint explains why Catherine betrayed her own heart. (Bronte, 37) As a result of this betrayal, a heartbroken Heathcliff begins to formulate a plot for revenge. For seventeen years Heathcliff wreaks his vengeance on Hindley, Edgar, and Isabella and on their children Hareton, young Cathy, and Linton. The account of the trip is not pretty. Even in the love scenes before the elder Cathy s death there is a savage passion which strikes terror to the heart of the beholder, unlike any other scenes in the course of English fiction. Education systems and trademarks are identified and established by one s culture, history, tradition and many other practices. Germany and South Korea are typical examples where each nation possesses unique educational trademarks given its own geography, history, and custom practices in its country. • 11. Ragtime Research Paper Ragtime American culture involves myriads of customs and traditions inherent exclusively to the USA. Except for religion, clothes, behavior, beliefs, or food, which define culture as a unique phenomenon, music enormously contributes to its existence in any period of the nation s development. Early American music is famous for a distinctive genre popular during the mid 1890s, called ragtime, notable for its special syncopation and composers. Ragtime used to be a solely American style of musical works composed of three or four strikingly different sections, in other words, strains, one of which was 16 or 32 measures in length. Due to an astonishing syncopation, namely replacement of the beat from its regular course of meter, ragtime compositions became both threatening and thrilling to the American youngsters. The displaced beat caused the listeners to feel hyperactive as well as evoked strong associations with so called low class music of the Negroes ( History of ragtime, n.d.). Although ragtime was composed for a piano, modern chronicles mention a significant role of the banjo in the development of this musical genre. In 1881, a writer Lafcadio Hearn noted that the blacks used the piano as a banjo, producing new ragged rhythms, later called banjo figuration ( History of ragtime, n.d.). ... • 13. The Definition Of Marriage And Family Relationships Essay What is the definition of marriage in the Bible? Better yet what is the definition of family in the Bible? In Scripture there are many families which could be studied in order to better answer this question, but some of the most prominent choices are Abraham s family, David s family, and Solomon s family. Each of these families in turn had their own sets of issues and problems, but there are also Biblical solutions to these problems which shall be address through the course of this paper. But, before this is done it is important to take note of what God s definitions are. To begin, I will start by explaining what my understanding of marriage and family relationships according to scripture are supposed to look like. Now, throughout both the Old Testament and New Testament many commandments are given to both children and parents. For instance, one of the most obvious commands given to children was, Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you, (Ex. 20:12, New International Version (NIV)). To honor someone means to treat him or her with respect and put them in a place of high esteem. Honor and respect means a child should not speak back to their parents, they should not curse out their parents in any way, and in general they should respect their parents wishes. But, going further than this Colossians 3:20 says, Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord, (Col. 3:20, NIV). Children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which devastate the marine life population. Missed doses or overdoses are one of the problems related to medication safety (Anthony, 2015). A medication error is any act or occurrence which causes or leads to a patient receiving inappropriate medication treatment (Potter Perry, 2014). Errors can occur due to failure to follow procedures related to medication administration, lack of communication between healthcare staff, deciphering illegible handwriting and underlying system factors, such as distractions and time constraints (Potter Perry, 2014). Specific heat capacity is the amount of heat energy required in joules to raise 1kg of a substance by 1 degree Celsius, different substances absorb heat energy at different rates not all substances require the same amount of heat energy to increase the internal temperature of a substance this depends on the mass and the material it s self. Overall this experiment has successfully reached its objectives however some errors have occurred as shown in the experimental errors where the experimental values do not match the actual values of the materials this could be caused by heat loss through the material which could be reduced with better insulation of the material. Further error could have been avoided in the first experiment by letting the heating element reach its maximum output before inserting it into the aluminium block as the warm up time is not taken into consideration in the first experiment; this was not a factor in the second experiment as the heating element was immediately placed into the copper block and was at its maximum ... In this synthesis, aluminum foil, an everyday material, was the reactant. This synthesis includes two main steps. First, dissolves aluminum in potassium hydroxide. Second, treat it with sulfuric acid and filter out the product. This synthesis was found out to be an efficient way to produce small amount of potassium alum under a laboratorial environment. It was a war between the large English army and the much smaller Scottish army. The Scottish showed they were a force to be reckoned with when they took Stirling Castle for ransom. The English were trying to get the castle back from the Scottish which caused the Battle of Bannockburn Leading up to the Battle of Bannockburn, quite a few things happened. In 1290, Margaret, the maid of Norway , the heir to the Scottish throne, died when she was eight years old. Her death left Scotland without a ruler. Bruce, however, wanted all of the Scottish land back from England. He began to take the land back, and by 1314, the Scottish held all the castles except five. These five castles included Stirling Castle, which is located just outside of the town of Bannockburn, Scotland. In the summer of 1314, Edward Bruce, Robert Bruce s younger brother, began the siege of Stirling Castle. The English men inside the castle called for help from their country. The men inside the castle were so desperate to escape, they created the Stirling Castle Agreement. The agreement stated that if no help came by midsummer, the castle would give way. Robert Bruce was determined to get Stirling Castle, and he began to prepare an army in case the English sent help. What Is Environmental Degradation 4.2 BACKGROUND The increasing severity of global environmental challenges has prompted increased attention to the relationship between international trade and environmental degradations. On the one hand, there is a growing strand of literature on environmental degradations that focuses on emissions relocated by trade. As shown in the comprehensive surveys of Jayadevappa and Chhatre (2000), Wiedmann et al. (2007) and Sato (2012), there has been a growing interest since the 1970s for the interactions between trade and environment. Muller and Mendelsohn (2007; 2009) use a so called Air Pollution Emissions Experiments and Policy (APEEP) model to calculate the marginal damage associated with emitting an additional ton of pollution in the US. Air emission data used by the authors is provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency s National Emission Inventory (NEI), which encompasses all anthropogenic emissions of six air pollutants (SO2, PM2.5, PM10, NOx, VOC, and NH3) in 48 states of the US (USEPA, 2006; 2009). The APEEP model first connects emissions of air pollutants to physical effects, by employing the USEPA national emission inventory of air pollution. Those physical effects include adverse effects on human health, decreased timber and agriculture yields, reduced visibility, accelerated depreciation of materials, and reductions in recreation services. Then, the model translates the physical effects into monetary terms using standard estimates of mortality and morbidity risks, market values of goods or services, and results of other valuation studies (e.g. Chestnut and Rowe, 1990; McClelland et al., 1993). Muller and Mendelsohn (2007; 2009) first calculate baseline damages of the year 2002 s emissions, and then calculate damages of one additional ton of emission. They are headed toward the National Football League. They must have worked really hard in high school to be where they are. High school football is easy, because if you are good then you have so much more fun playing the game. In high school, there is homecoming, powderpuff, and senior night that gives everyone something to remember. College football there s about one hundred players that are just as good or better than you so that brings in the competition. Although college football is harder than high school football, there is more competition, intensity, and rigorous plays; high school football is more enjoyable. Having that many players on your football team is overwhelming at first, but you get used to it after a while. Being an athlete, you always want to be the best on the field at all times. That is just a college football players mentality. When they are put into a situation where everyone is better than them; that makes them work harder to be better. When that all comes together it makes the team better on both sides of the ball. With everyone coming together, that creates competition and grudges towards the players. Having that grudge make a college player jealous about the starting position. They tend to start doing more and more everyday to earn that starting spot and to get on the travel squad. In high school, there was not that much competition, so it was pretty much set in stone that the starters were going to start the whole season. That also creates competition. Although there is competition in high school football, some players quit caring about the sport and end up not coming out for the team in the future. In college that does not happen, because the players are on a scholarship to be their and they do not want to lose that scholarship. That makes everyone work hard and that is why college football practices are so intense; because everyone is there for a reason. When you think about intensity, what comes to mind? Another example of Zeus predisposition for not having control over his more human needs is the fact that Aphrodite has power over him. The speaker seems to be hinting that even the moon has evil in it; blanched makes the moon seem unnaturally pale, and almost a little like death. The final two stanza shows the speaker s opinion of the world related to faith, and it appears that the speaker has lost his faith. And we here as on a darkling plain (35). This is a simile to the faithful ugliness of the world. The speaker believes that the night he sees of calm and tranquility is an illusion, and the real world is the roaring of the ... I figured that all out once, and for six months I never slept with the electric light off. We are going to look at the fragmented world of jake from The Sun Also Rises, by Ernest Hemingway. Jake is broken and feels like he is isolated from society. The author through the story tells us how Jake feels about Brett, what type of people he associates himself with, and his actions/words to each different group of people. The author introduces Jake as a WW1 veteran. Later in chapter one Brett enters the scene and who she is to Jake. Brett and Jake are a couple that are trying to make it work. Jake is castrated thanks to the war. Their relationship is ironic as they both want to make the relationship work but know it will not. The dominant interests of revolutionary writers were political and social, whereas the interests of colonial writers were mainly religious and economic. Most of the colonial writers such as John Smith mostly fled from religious persecution in Europe. For example, those aboard the Mayflower had quite a number of pilgrims who had fled from England to Holland, seeking religious freedom. These Pilgrims jumped at the chance to go to the New World, where they could worship however they please. Revolutionary writers, like Benjamin Franklin, sought freedom from tyranny: they focused on breaking free from English rule and taxes. They did not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
