Comparing Ancient Egypt And Sumer
Arguably, two very impressive civilizations, Egypt and Sumer, took shape around the same time.
This proximity provided them with remarkable similarities, yet a copious amount of differences
still grew between the two areas. Largely due to their access to resources and environment, the
communities grew in very different manners, which led to differences in political development, as
well as their leaders, which in turn affected their overall success. In regards to Sumer, it flourished
in the area of Mesopotamia, or as the Greeks called it, the Land between Rivers (Cole, et al 7).
Specifically, these rivers were the Tigris and Euphrates. Despite being surrounded by waterways,
Sumer existed in an extremely arid climate, which left the soil sandy and summer weather
unbearably hot. The rivers presented a series of problems. Not only were the Tigris and
Euphrates noted for their violence and unpredictably , but also both were prone to flooding (Cole,
et al 7). Despite these adversities, Sumer still managed to grow into the first urban society (Cole,
et al 7). Residents in this area quickly learned simply irrigation tactics, overtime these channels
became more complex and allowed for decent farming. They also constructed dikes and levees to
control the seasonal flooding (Cole, et al 8). As the Sumerians learned how to control the
environmental elements that challenged them, the population in the urban areas began to grow.
Specifically, by 3100 B.C.E., the area of Urukhad

The Pros And Cons Of Suicides In Japan
Japan has always been one of the great powers of the world. It has one of the highest economies
globally and that is due to the efficiency and perseverance of the Japanese workers. However, it
has one of the highest suicide rates in the world which makes it sound abnormal for such a
successful country. It reached 19.5 suicides among every 100,000 Japanese. In addition, In 2003,
34,000 lives were lost to suicideand the number decreased till it reached 21,897 suicides in 2016
which is still not a number to be celebrated. Japan suicide rate may be high as many Japanese
suffer from financial problems. However, to explain the Why we need to look at Japan s Religions
which open possibilities to commit suicide.
The number of suicides in Japan was over 20,000 persons per year but this number jumped to
over than 30,000 persons per year in 1998 when the Japanese financial crisis happened, since this
crisis the number have been high. The Japanese financial crisis led Japan to witness what is called
the lost decade as many people lost their money and jobs and faced poverty and unemployment.
According to Health and Global Policy Institute, this graph shows that suicides number increased
steeply in 1998 and it stayed high ever since. Following the 1998 financial crisis, most age groups
for both men and women show an increased suicide rate (Tanisho, 2013) The article also
demonstrates that the highest proportion of suicides is among the middle aged me. Money related

Toyota s Method For Tracking Machine Breakdown
The Ford Motor Company is an automotive manufacturer, like Toyota, that has delays in the
production process caused by machine failures. Machine breakdowns within the manufacturing
plant, caused delays and stoppages that lead to increased production times and decreased customer
satisfaction (Sampson, 2004). In 1995, Ford initiated a program that effectively reduced the amount
of production time by establishing a step by step process to repair specific machinebreakdowns
efficiently (Xu, 2013). When a breakdown occurs the program lists the solutions on how to repair
the problem based on previous machines with similar issues. This provides corrective actions that
are quickly, efficiently, and reliably identified if the breakdown has occurred in the past.
Ford s method for tracking machine breakdown includes information about previous problems and
the processes that were taken to solve the issue (Sampson, 2004). This provides information
quickly on how to solve the problem for any given breakdown that occurs during production. Once
the solution to the problem is discovered, it can be repaired immediately. When a breakdown and
the solution are listed, the program also shows every machine containing the characteristic affected
by the solution (Sampson, 2004). This allows the solutions to be better utilized to improve the
efficiency and reliability of similar machines because it can be used to prevent future breakdowns.
For example, Ford found a valve to continually fail because

In David Sedaris Tasteless, he stresses how the meaning of delicious food throughout his life has
always been important to him. Growing up he ate substantial amounts of food without caring what
it was. As he got older, smoking took a toll on his taste buds. He didn t appreciate the subtle
differences between fine meals and bland meals due to his lack of taste. David had learned how
something with so much value to him, such as food, could considerably lose value.
To begin with, David loved devouring large portions of food, but never really tasted the

Challenges And Weaknesses Of F B Turnover
5.0 THE CHALLENGES AND ISSUES OF THE F B OPERATION
There are some challenges and issues arise at the Subway restaurant operation. One of it is high
employee turnover. As we know, the fast food industry has one of the highest turnover rates of
any industry. Employees are often temporary or seasonal workers, most of them students working
during the semester breaks or part time jobs. Also, the low wages affect the workers too, they may
leave as soon as they get a better offer. The turnover rate in the industry varies from restaurant to
restaurant and year to year. There are many factors that contribute to employee turnover such as the
younger employees are more likely to leave their jobs and frequently they are working part time
positions. Employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mount Hood Case Study
Analysis
Now that the background of the disaster is known, we can begin to analyze its many
components. From the leadership skills or lack thereof, to the heuristic traps the hikers fell into,
to the many voices that bring multiple views of this climb to life, the 1986 Oregon Episcopal
School climb is one that has people wondering how so many lost their lives in a seemingly simple
trip. In doing this we are able to see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to
learn from the mistakes of this tragic event.
The leadership, group functioning, experience, and skill of the nineteen individuals who made their
way up Mount Hood can be used to analyze the very basics of what went wrong atop the mountain.
Though there was a trained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who survived the tragedy bring the voice of what it was really like up on the mountain to
life. The parents of students who didn t survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the
school was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some
hold the school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the
equipment. The media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the
voices of the parents, community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through
15th prove to be valuable when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and
television reports all freeze this disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the
voices of the public provide interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come
back home. Through contrasting views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn
that not everyone believed them to be fit to guide the trip. By comparing these multiple viewpoints,
it becomes clear that if the group had taken the correct precautions and listened to the weather
report, they may be alive

Rape as a War Tactic in the Rwandan Genocide
The sweetly sickening odor of decomposing bodies hung over many parts of Rwanda in July
1994: . . . at Nyarubuye in eastern Rwanda, where the cadaver of a little girl, otherwise intact, had
been flattened by passing vehicles to the thinness of cardboard in front of the church steps,
(Deforges 6). The normalcy of horrible images like this one had cast a depressing gloom over
Rwandaduring the genocide, a time when an extreme divide caused mass killings of Tutsiby the
Hutu. Many tactics such as physical assault or hate propaganda are well known and often used
during times of war. Sexual assault and rape, however, during times of war is an unspoken secret it

After she was seized, she had been raped multiple times not only because of her beauty, but also
because she had been sleeping with Tutsis which therefore meant that she could sleep with the
Hutu as well (Mullins 726). The woman had been raped in front of four Interhamwe soldiers as
well as a large group of refugees. In the chaos after of the rape by Musema, the woman was
ordered to turn over from her stomach to her back and raped by multiple soldiers in turns. Her
breast was cut off by one of the soldiers, which they tried to make her child eat (Mullins 726 727).
The violence and chaos allowed for the pre existing animosities to turn into the crime of rape. The
act, though isolated, was obviously meant directed towards the entire Tutsi population as a whole.
Alfred Musema was a man who often engaged in these opportunistic rapes, which were single
episode events (Mullins 726).
During the Rwandan genocide, some rapes occurred recurrently throughout a timespan. Sexual
enslavements occurred when a woman was detained, typically in the house of an Interhamwe, and
subjected to repeated sexual assaults over a period of days, (Mullins 727). These kinds of rapes
belong in their own category because of the added element of confinement and intent to continually
rape and therefore, harm. An Interhamwe soldier named Rafiki, personally sought out one Tutsi

A major advantage of vegetarianism is the improvement of personal health for the long run. Meat
eaters showed a 300 percent risk of colon cancer in a Harvard investigation whereas a study done
by England and Germany displayed a 40% less cancer risk for those committed to a vegetarian
diet ( Vegetarian Foods ). Vegetarianism helps reduces the risk of cancer. Moreover, research
shows that meat consumption often allows overabundance of protein in the body which leads to
kidney stones, osteoporosis, and . . . heart disease ( Vegetarian Foods ). A vegetable diet with
grains, beans, and other protein sources help maintain a balance of protein. Additionally, a rising
obesity rate concerns an overwhelming amount of people who desire to lose weight (in a healthy
way). Many can turn to a vegetarian lifestyle which keeps their weight and health in check. A
research study showed how plant based diet helped people with type 2 diabetes to lose weight . . .
and improve their metabolism ( Vegetarian Diet ). Basically, a vegetarian diet even promotes
healthy weight loss. The impact of vegetarianism further extends to a global and environmental
level. One of the major global issues includes the effect human overpopulation on poverty levels.
Too many mouths exist, waiting to be fed though not enough food is readily available. Studies
indicate that animals consume approximately 40% of the global grains harvest which could feed

With the foregoing, Aguirre could not solely base the accusation by mere suppositions and

II. CREDIBILITY OF THE EYEWITNESSES
First. Zenny, on her testimony, stated that she knew of the incident when Parlade told her about it
at 7:00 in the morning while Parlade alledged that after he ran to chase the tricycle which was then
driven by the carnapper and he failed to catch up with it, he and Zenny looked for the tricycle the
whole night.
Second. The tricycle was stolen in the early morning of November 21, and Parlade gave his
statement to the police in the afternoon of the same day as supported by his affidavit which was
timed 1:30pm.
Third. Parlade said he was 5 meters away and so somewhat near from the tricycle when it was
stolen which was against his sworn statement wherein he stated medyo malayo . And when he
shouted, the carnapper looked back but suddenly started the motor. From that Parlade said he
recognized the carnapper whose purpose was to flee and so merely glanced back. This was
incoherent with his testimony in the witness stand that the man looked backed at him in the terms
medyo matagal po .

The Significance Of Church Going By Phillip Larkin
David Doan
Kevin Moore
05/21/2015
English 111
The Significance of Church Church Going by Phillip Larkin is a poem which hectors, but also
provides an interesting perspective on the significance and purpose of religion. Throughout the
poem, one can instantly recognize Larkin s agnostic beliefs because of the story s duel nature.
Church Going begins with an obviously atheist narrator ironically sneaking into an empty church.
Due to the narrator s ignorant and naГЇve personality, one can infer that the character could be a
curious young boy. While looking through all of the fancy decorations, books, and sacred items, he
begins to wonder what would happen to churches once people stopped practicing their faith and
most of all what the allure of religion is. In the end, the boy concludes that religion will forever
exist because there will always be big questions such as why are we here or what is the meaning of
life. Although Larkin is very skeptical about religion in his poem, it seems he cannot deny the
significance and impact the church has had in history. The church s ability to satisfy humanity s
want for a metaphysical entity, is the reason why there are so many followers even today. Larkin
first begins his poem by empathizing with atheists and viewing the church through their eyes. When
the boy sneaks into the church, one can tell how indifferent and almost disgusted he is towards the
building based on his descriptions. He points out how it is just another church:

Theu.s. North American Free Trade Agreement
Given the common interest in trade shared by the countries Hogwarts, The Land of Oz, Atlantis,

recommended. A high level of regional integration along the lines of the European Union is
unlikely due to the differing regime types of each country. The arrangement proposed to fulfill the
common interest in trade shared by these four countries is very similar NAFTA the North American

country, reduce and hopefully eradicate transaction costs, manage collective goods, and form due to

of the basic, or functional, needs of people and states (Karns and Mingst 40). In the case of these
four countries, there are a few shared interests or needs that opening up trade would fulfill: the
strengthening of each economy, providing security for the people of each country through an
increased military, building infrastructure in each country, and the providing of (more) social

The teaching and learning methods which are unique to universities in the UK constitute the

The last two decades have seen a growing trend towards the number of international students who
have chosen the UK as their studying destination. According to United Kingdom Council for
International Student Affairs, the enrolment of overseas students into the UK universities rose by
21% in 2010. Under this circumstance, the issues that face the international candidates during

international students might face during their degree.
One of the greatest challenges that face students in their degree is the language barrier, which
many students feel less confident to speak, read, listen and write in a language that is different

consequences, including the loss of the best candidate, giving the wrong impression, and even legal
ramifications. Clean Care Care (3Cs) is in a unique situation in the company s history. With low
unemployment and a lack of qualified internal candidates, Arlan Autospritz, the owner, is recruiting

In Jane s case, there is a significant chance of any one of these obstacles. An initial salary offer of
$33,000, along with additional inducements, may be a good starting point for negotiations. This
will provide negotiating room of at least up to $35,000, a 10% jump from her current situation. In
this situation, upfront and honest communication could benefit 3Cs. For example, asking Jane
whether she was looking at any other companies or has any other offers on the table. Upfront
communication can work to best align the wants and needs of both company and candidate
(Maurer, 2015). The offer should be clarified as employment at will to provide flexibility for both
3Cs and Jane. This is particularly important in this case since Jane is coming from a different
industry and without thorough knowledge of the 3Cs business and culture. Additional Inducements
Considering Jane s current situation, additional inducements may be equally or even more
important than the salary, especially during any negotiations. First, it is unlikely that the health
insurance details could be changed for one individual so the salary bump and added inducements
must be enough to make up the difference. Options may include additional vacation, flexible
scheduling, a signing bonus, and relocation assistance. Jane should be offered two weeks of
vacation since she is about to earn that at her current

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Misfit Character Analysis
Naturally as humans we like to identify ourselves with a set of values. This code helps to form a
sense of being, an identity that sets us apart from others. However, inconsistency is just as much
a part of humanity as is our sense of morals. Common decency is plagued by our desires. In
Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find, we follow a grandmother and her family, and we
learn about her own selfish values. Throughout the story she acts in a manner that falls in
contradiction to what she believes to be a lady and good. Right from the start we see that she will
lie and sneak to get what she wants. In contrast, the Misfit, a runaway criminal, has no pretention of
being good. He knows the implications of his actions and he follows through anyway. In this sense

Though the Misfit is a runaway criminal, the villain , his calm consistency is resolute. When the

the audience, especially in contrast to Red Sammy who eagerly accepts the compliment; being a

consideration. He questions his role in the world and why he acts the way he does, rather than
merely accepting a label as a good or bad person. It is this contemplation that gives his story
weight. Thusly his role is solidified in the audience s mind as an antihero, as a man with consistent

reporters snoop around the lives of these politicians rumored to have done something worthy of a
scandal in hopes of becoming the next Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. This has led to many
politicians becoming involved in scandals that are not true scandals but an attempt from the
reporter to become known as the person who broke the scandaland brought a big politician down.
However, more times than not, scandals involving politicians materialize into full blown scandals
that require mass media attention and deep investigation from the authorities. These scandals
include financial, political, or sex in nature and more times than not, the sex... Show more content

Rheumatoid Arthritis And Its Effects On The Human Body
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which your joints are very sore and ache multiple times of the
day. This disease is in the autoimmune system because the immune system mistakenly attacks
your own body tissue and results in these pains. It ordinarily affects the small joints of your hands
and feet. The lining of these joints is attacked and causes painful swelling. It also affects other
organs such as your skin, eyes, lungs, and blood vessels. If not treated correctly it is known to
cause bonedeformity. Rheumatoid arthritisis predominantly more common in women and generally
begins around age 40. A symptom of this autoimmune system disease includes tender and warm,
swollen joints, usually in the smaller joints of your body.

My Favorite Season
Fall, one of my favorite times of the year. Filled with changing colors, special holidays,
pumpkins, and the best thing in the world, apple cider doughnuts. Every year me and my family
spend one day to rake all the leaves together. We usually only do it that once and we almost never
finish. But we enjoy ourselves all the same.
This occurs on the same day every year, the day we go to the pumpkin farm. That day always
started early. We would wake up, quickly get ready, then drive to Burnt Toast for breakfast. Just
sitting there talking, and eating for awhile. After that we d get back up and drive to Gobert s to
begin the fun.
Only staying a little past lunch we would laugh, and play, and eat, and pick out our pumpkin.
Then right before leaving we would stand in line for half an hour. Just to get a dozen fresh apple
cider doughnuts. Even though they had the same doughnuts inside the main store with a shorter
wait. On the way home we divided all the doughnuts up between us. I always ate mine the
quickest, dad was usually second, and my mom and Noah, my brother, both only ever ate one of
theirs and saved the rest for later. Which Noah always ended up giving me one of his extras
anyway. Once home it was time to work , so we banded together to rake the leaves that are
always overflowing in our yard. Don t get me wrong we would work for a little bit, but then we d
just end up making the biggest pile of leaves we could, so Noah could jump in. Which caused my
mom to demand family

Seamus Heaney Digging
amp;#8220;Digging ; is about a person looking out of a window at their Father digging, describing
what he/she sees and then the poem goes on to describe what he/she feels.
I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number
of clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line,
amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217;
The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. He writes about his Father and his
Grandfather and he seems to move from describing his Father to describing his Grandfather. He
does this so smoothly that the reader harldy notices the transition that took place. The second clue
is slightly more hidden. The poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That line also paints an image in the readers mind of the spade sinking in and the scratching/rasping
sound it makes. An example of how the author does the same thing only with the sense touch is,
amp;#8216;The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered
firmly. amp;#8217; In this case the second line emphasizes the first. It does this by using the words
levered and firmly they make the whole phrase seem more realistic.
However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight
amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of
an edge. amp;#8217;
These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words;
squelch and slap. These two words suggest someone moving through thick soggy mud for some
reason it also suggests to me that it was on a cold day.
In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my
mind amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because
the poet uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make
the phrase clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye.
I think the poet amp;#8217;s attitute to work is that of a perfectionist. I get this impression
because of how picky he is about describing the way his Father and

The Stereotypes Of Crime In Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens
From the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century, London was a metropolis
with a high crime rate. From 1745 to 1820, there were 115,000 people who made their living by
burglary, prostitution, swindle and other criminal acts. It is horrible when we know that the total
population of London at that time was just 960,000.
Presumably there was no other novelist in Victoria era that had such a strong concern about crime,
and incorporated so much description of crime in his works as Charles Dickens (1812 1870) did.
Oliver Twist was the second novel of Dickens published in a serial form in a magazine titled

Success in college requires one to identify key aspects of personal responsibility, understand the
relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and establish a specific plan to
follow that will ensure he or she incorporates the various elements of personal responsibility in
every facet of his or her college experience.
The notion of personal responsibility has been embedded in our culture and as we enter into
adulthood we must learn to become personally, academically, financially, socially and mentally
responsible. There are times when you may feel you are responsible and may not need or want
the help of others in your life. However, life is full of challenges and surprises and it is easy to
shift the blame to others if things don t go your way. You must learn to take responsibility by
accepting and acknowledging the choices you make in your live.
You are where you are in life today because of the choice you made. You made decisions that either
benefitted or hindered you. How you accept and acknowledges your personal responsibility depends
on how you handle the outcomes of your decisions. I look at personal responsibility as you
accepting responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions
and understanding that these actions impact the world around you.
Life itself is already full of challenges and once you learn to accept the decisions you made and not
blaming others for your actions,

Understanding Key Concepts of Marketing
What is marketing? Contrary to what a layperson thinks there is more to marketing than just
running ads and selling products (Perreault, Cannon McCarty, 2014). The American Marketing
Association defines marketing as the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating,
communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients,
partners, and society at large (para. 1). Effective marketinginvolves strategic concepts. Some of
which include how companies use marketing to Place, Promote, and Price their Products. More
importantly, an understanding of the marketing concept, the marketing strategy, and the marketing
plan is required for a company s marketing efforts to be successful.

analysis, a competitor matrix compares the strengths and weaknesses of a company with those of its
competitors. Examining and evaluating direct and external markets is crucial. Changes in these
environments can create new opportunities as well as identify challenges. In addition to analyzing
direct and external markets, companies should understand and analyze customers in a market.
Before a company can analyze customers in a market, the company must understand and define the
market. There are two basic types of markets: generic markets and product markets. It is important
to define these markets as this can help companies find opportunities. However, if a company
defines its market to broadly the company s marketing effort might be wasted. On the other hand,
too narrow of a definition might limit a company s opportunities. The following represents a
complete product market definition:
What:1. Product type (type of goods and type of service)
To meet what:2. Customer (user) needs
For whom:3. Customer types
Where:4. Geographic area (Perreault et al., 2014).
Product type is the goods/services the customers want. Customer needs are the needs the product
type satisfies for the customer. Customer types are the final consumer or user of the product type.
Lastly, the geographic area is where the company competes or plans to compete. (Perreault et al.,
2014). While using the above product market definition is important, the most effective way to find

Five Key Components Of Customer Service To The New Zealand...
Question One
Research at least two tourism or travel texts and identify five key components of customer service
to the New Zealand tourism or travel industry.
There are many ways for one to show good customer service and as said by Collier (2011), good
customer service is essential. Collier mentions that meeting and exceeding customer expectations is
the way to good customer service. To give good customer service, key methods would be being
consistent and continuous with work ethic and attitude, and constantly doing this. Being thoughtful
too not only customers, but other colleges are a key component as well as availability to
customers. This is important as customers need to feel as if you are willing and able to provide
your service. Punctuality and grooming are also mentioned as critical elements as it is how you
present yourself to customers.
Colliers skills and qualities mentioned replicate the five key components of customer service said
by the SERVQUAL service measuring system (Parasuraman, Zeithaml Berry 1988). The first
component is tangible, meaning the staff should have a tidy appearance, and all facilities should
be clean and presented well. Reliability is also a key component, customers should be able to trust
the staff members to do the correct job without fail. Responsiveness is also important, meaning the
staff member being prepared and eager to help the customer s and do it knowing that the customer

Christianity and Paganism are both portrayed throughout the epic Beowulf. Beowulf frequently
speaks of God throughout the story, while there are also many Pagan elements that are evident
throughout the story as well. In addition, It s hard to ignore the Christian and Pagan elements in
Beowulf. These types of elements are what define the heroic warrior in the epic Beowulf
(Vengeance the Pagan and Christian Inspiration). Throughout the epic Beowulf, while the Anglo
Saxons followed Christianity, they had a hard time letting go of the Pagan beliefs when things got
hard. First, references to the bible are one way that Anglo Saxons followed Christianity, while they
had a hard time letting go of the Pagan beliefs. One of the first Christian aspects in the story is
referring to how God created the earth. Furthermore, The Almighty created the earth, creating all
the beautiful landscapes that is marked off by the waters, and lighted by the moon and sun (The

in this quote the author portrays how the Almighty created the earth and how he gave life to
everything in the world. This quote is reminding us of the religious aspect of the poem because it is

Eukaryote and Prokaryote Bacterial Cells Differences
Abstract
This paper explores the functional anatomical differences between prokaryote and eukaryote
bacterial cells and the process by which substances move across the cell membranes. The cell
theory is a widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things. The
cell theory states All living things or organisms are made of cells and their products, new cells
are created by old cells dividing into two, and cells are basic building units of life (Tortora et al,

Its division is by binary fission. Prokaryotes have no histones, their DNA is not associated with
histones whereas, and the DNA of eukaryotes is consistently associated with these special
chromosomal proteins called histones and with no histone. Bacteria species are differentiated by
morphology, biochemical activities, source of energy and chemical composition. Bacteria comes
in great many sizes and several shapes. Most bacteria range from 0.2 to 2.0 um in diameter and
from 2 to 8 um in length. Three basic cellular arrangement of bacteria shapes are coccus( spherical),
bacillus (rod shaped), and spiral(twisted), Only pleomorphic bacteria like rhizobium and
corynebacterium can assume varieties of shapes.
However, among the structures external to the prokaryotic cell wall are the glycocalyx, flagella,
axial filaments, fimbriae and pili. Many Capsules Prokaryotes secret on their surface a
substance called glycocalyx (meaning sugar coat), which surrounds the cell. This is referred to
as capsule when it is firmly attached to the cell wall. The presence of a capsule can be
determined by negative staining. If not organized or is loosely attached to the cell wall, the glycol
calyx is serves described to be a slim layer or extracellular polysaccharide. Capsules protect
pathogens from phagocytosis and cell adherence to surfaces thereby providing nutrients to the

the mother/daughter relationship between Juliet and the Nurse, and how this is different to the
relationship between Lady Capulet and her daughter. During this performance of Romeo and Juliet,

How far was Disraeli the Architect of the second reform act of 1867? It can be argued that
Disraeli was the architect of reform during the late 1860 s and through 1867 reform act, mainly
due to the fact that he realised that the conservative party might be seen as non reforming. To
counter this he would expand the franchise and gain potential new voters. However there is also
significant evidence that Lord Derby was the main architect of reform, mostly due to the fact that
he had been part of the 1832 reform bill and when he returned to power in 1866 he took the lead in
presenting the conservative reform bill. One reason, which shows that Disraeli was the Architect of

This was not an uncommon reaction towards David s art at the time. However, the painting was
restored to a place of honor by Baudelaire, who wrote :
This painting is David s masterpiece and one of the great curiosities of modern art because, by a
strange feat, it has nothing trivial or vile. What is most surprising in this very unusual visual poem
is that it was painted very quickly. When one thinks of the beauty of the lines, this quickness is
bewildering. This is food for the strong, the triumph of spiritualism.
David s artwork did not just involve the use of pretty colours. Many of his paintings beared
powerfull meanings, historically and politically. Culturally they had a huge impact on social
activity during the French Revolution. The story of Brutus was popular with educated sections of
the French public during the eighteenth century. Voltaire s play Brutus , was performed on stage

Despite the relatively small areas of land the rainforests cover, they are home to nearly half of

the rainforests are the lungs of our planet, without which life would not be possible, and while it s

The San Francisco Earthquakes
The effects of the writer s impression vary depending on who s reading it. They leave a tone that
takes charge of their emotions, and puts it into a perspective which the readers can understand.
Having a different set of imagery for their stories, the writers continue discussing about the same
topic. Twain and London s words become vivid to the readers, and leave a very distinguished
imagery of the setting.
Jack London, a citizen of San Francisco who s lived there between 20 30 years; he very well
knows San Francisco buildings and areas such as the industrial section, the dwelling houses on its
outskirts, and the palaces of the nabobs. A person that is additionally concerned towards the man

Twain mainly focused on the people, mostly because he found them to be much more interesting
than the buildings. He viewed the people, and realized how everyone has the same reaction when it
comes to an earthquake. So seeing it from a first person perspective, anyone is to learn what to do
in a dangerous situation such as the one that occurred. Being new and not understanding anything,
he became fully aware no matter what religion, gender, color, or age, if a building begins to shake
while the person is inside, get out.
Twain and London both different in tone; while seemed to be excited, the other one seems to be
serious. One cares about the effects of the people, while the other matters on the buildings.
Although both topics are the same, they change due to the fact that one is a visitor and the other
has lived there since the moment they were born. No matter what opposite opinions they had on the
situation, both stories were created from their own

Quebec Nationalism And Quebec Secessionism
It is crucial to understand the population of Quebec in terms of how likely certain demographics
are to support sovereignty. Duchesne, Eagle, and Erfle (2003) note that constituencies with a high
percentage of young adults are very likely to be in favour or Quebec secessionism. This may be
due to the fact that young voters provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the
province (Duchesne, Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements
are becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions are high,
such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States. Additionally, ridings with high
numbers of voters over the age of 65 are also likely to support sovereignty and parties such as the
Bloc Quebecois (Lublin Voss, 2002). That is, these individuals directly experienced the surge in
confidence and economic advancement that the Quiet Revolution and the referendums brought to
the province (Lublin Voss, 2002). Further, Lublin and Voss (2002) argue that individuals from
Quebec who grew up in an era during which sovereignty was widely discussed as a viable and
legitimate option ... support sovereignty and the BQ (p. 94). Overall, support for Quebec
sovereignty is not divided amongst age groups, allowing Quebec regionalism to survive within
various generations, thus the sovereignty movement continues to exist with young people in the
present and in future political shifts in secessionist

Marxist Reading Of The Chaser
John Collier wrote a story called The Chaser. This story wraps around two men with a fiction
theme of life changing potions. Our main character Alan Austen walks into a noticeable
unfriendly apartment where he confronts an old man that is selling potions. Alan comes
looking for a love potion that will make the person of his dreams become obsessed with him
around the clock. However within this story one can see where Feminist and Marxist critics
could pick and point at certain moments in this story. Also how one s views can change the
bases of the story. Marxist Criticism is based around the money standpoint of every story, film,
ect. This kind of criticism basically states that more money equals more power. With that being
said it can be interpreted that the old man who is selling the potions has the most power in this
story. One can infer this do to him selling a one dollar potion that will with time turn into a
purchase of a five thousand dollar potion. The next step down is the man buyin the potion in the
story. He is second in power do to him having the money to make the purchase, and also being
able to buy the girl of his dreams with money. Since that one dollar love potion will make and
human being crazy for him he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do to feminist critics having the goal of pointing out the slightest moment in a piece where
females might somehow be devalued. The whole idea of having the ability to buy a love potion
can be related to reality as a guy slipping something in a girl s drink to where she has no control
or other choice besides what the man says. Feminist critics can also say that since it is a man
going to buy the potion with money, then that it saying that a woman s love can only be purchased
with money. Now with the glove cleaner potion a feminist critic wouldn t be very happy of the
idea that a male could simply buy a potion and be done with his female companion with simplicity

Catch-22 and the Theme of Death
Catch 22 and the Theme of Death
There are many ways for a man to die, but there is no way to bring him back after he has entered
the world of dead. Catch 22 is a novel satirizing war, and because of this, it inevitably has a strong
underlying theme of death. But unlike many war novels, Catch 22 doesn t use violent depictions of
fighting or bloody death scenes to denounce the evils of war; it utilizes humor and irony to make an
arguably more effective point. And even more importantly, Catch 22 is ultimately a novel about
hope, not death. Although the inevitability of death is still a prominent motif, it eventually leads
the main character, Yossarian, to realize that the desire to live is important and also that he ... Show

Yossarian s most startling glimpse into the terrors of war and death comes when he spends a
night alone on the streets of Rome. He sees homeless children; he witnesses men beating
children and dogs, a rape, and a convulsing soldier; he walks over a street littered with broken
human teeth. This is one of the rare sections of the novel that does not use humor to point out the
cruelty and inhumanity of the world. The scene comes to a climax when Yossarian returns to
his apartment and discovers that Aarfy has raped an innocent maid and then thrown her out his
window, leaving her dead on the sidewalk below. Then, ironically, Yossarian is arrested for
being in Rome without a pass and Aarfy is given an apology for the disturbance, his hideous
crime going unpunished. This chapter is when Yossarian begins to really recognize the true face
of the military and the meaning of Catch 22; when he goes to the brothel and the old woman tells
him that the girls have all been kicked out of their home by soldiers, she explains to him that
Catch 22 says they have a right to do anything we can t stop them from doing (417;Ch.39). Catch
22 is the justification for every wrong the military commits, and it overrides every other moral law.
The horrors that the military creates will never stop, and Yossarian begins to realize that he cannot
fight and die

  • 2. Comparing Ancient Egypt And Sumer Arguably, two very impressive civilizations, Egypt and Sumer, took shape around the same time. This proximity provided them with remarkable similarities, yet a copious amount of differences still grew between the two areas. Largely due to their access to resources and environment, the communities grew in very different manners, which led to differences in political development, as well as their leaders, which in turn affected their overall success. In regards to Sumer, it flourished in the area of Mesopotamia, or as the Greeks called it, the Land between Rivers (Cole, et al 7). Specifically, these rivers were the Tigris and Euphrates. Despite being surrounded by waterways, Sumer existed in an extremely arid climate, which left the soil sandy and summer weather unbearably hot. The rivers presented a series of problems. Not only were the Tigris and Euphrates noted for their violence and unpredictably , but also both were prone to flooding (Cole, et al 7). Despite these adversities, Sumer still managed to grow into the first urban society (Cole, et al 7). Residents in this area quickly learned simply irrigation tactics, overtime these channels became more complex and allowed for decent farming. They also constructed dikes and levees to control the seasonal flooding (Cole, et al 8). As the Sumerians learned how to control the environmental elements that challenged them, the population in the urban areas began to grow. Specifically, by 3100 B.C.E., the area of Urukhad ... Machine breakdowns within the manufacturing plant, caused delays and stoppages that lead to increased production times and decreased customer satisfaction (Sampson, 2004). In 1995, Ford initiated a program that effectively reduced the amount of production time by establishing a step by step process to repair specific machinebreakdowns efficiently (Xu, 2013). When a breakdown occurs the program lists the solutions on how to repair the problem based on previous machines with similar issues. This provides corrective actions that are quickly, efficiently, and reliably identified if the breakdown has occurred in the past. Ford s method for tracking machine breakdown includes information about previous problems and the processes that were taken to solve the issue (Sampson, 2004). This provides information quickly on how to solve the problem for any given breakdown that occurs during production. Once the solution to the problem is discovered, it can be repaired immediately. When a breakdown and the solution are listed, the program also shows every machine containing the characteristic affected by the solution (Sampson, 2004). This allows the solutions to be better utilized to improve the efficiency and reliability of similar machines because it can be used to prevent future breakdowns. In doing this we are able to see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to learn from the mistakes of this tragic event. The parents of students who didn t survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the school was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some hold the school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the equipment. The media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the voices of the parents, community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through 15th prove to be valuable when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and television reports all freeze this disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the voices of the public provide interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come back home. Through contrasting views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn that not everyone believed them to be fit to guide the trip. • 12. The Significance Of Church Going By Phillip Larkin David Doan Kevin Moore 05/21/2015 English 111 The Significance of Church Church Going by Phillip Larkin is a poem which hectors, but also provides an interesting perspective on the significance and purpose of religion. Throughout the poem, one can instantly recognize Larkin s agnostic beliefs because of the story s duel nature. Church Going begins with an obviously atheist narrator ironically sneaking into an empty church. Due to the narrator s ignorant and naГЇve personality, one can infer that the character could be a curious young boy. While looking through all of the fancy decorations, books, and sacred items, he begins to wonder what would happen to churches once people stopped practicing their faith and most of all what the allure of religion is. In the end, the boy concludes that religion will forever exist because there will always be big questions such as why are we here or what is the meaning of life. Although Larkin is very skeptical about religion in his poem, it seems he cannot deny the significance and impact the church has had in history. The church s ability to satisfy humanity s want for a metaphysical entity, is the reason why there are so many followers even today. Larkin first begins his poem by empathizing with atheists and viewing the church through their eyes. When the boy sneaks into the church, one can tell how indifferent and almost disgusted he is towards the building based on his descriptions. He points out how it is just another church: ... Before a company can analyze customers in a market, the company must understand and define the market. There are two basic types of markets: generic markets and product markets. It is important to define these markets as this can help companies find opportunities. However, if a company defines its market to broadly the company s marketing effort might be wasted. This may be due to the fact that young voters provide an effective backing for the nationalist cause in the province (Duchesne, Eagle, Erfle, 2003, p. 652), especially as nationalist and alt right movements are becoming widespread in various regions around the world where political tensions are high, such as Quebec, Alberta, and many areas in the United States.
