or a business person needing a low cost but effective way to keep work related material
local and secret, chances are you use E Mail or Instant Messaging services. For
communication purposes in this high tech lifestyle that exists today, these systems are

To send messages, you d use the program SNDMSG ; to receive/read messages, you d
use the program READMAIL . Even though Tomlinson was famous for his invention of
this two programs his main claim to fame was a decision he made while writing these
programs. He needed a way to separate the e mail address from the username. He
wanted a character that would not be used in the username. While looking at the
standard keyboard used by most ARPANET users, he chose the @ symbol. Ray did not
intend the program to be used on the ARPANET, like most mailbox programs it was
intended to be used on local time sharing systems. It was designed to handle mail locally
and not over wide distances.
Stephen Lukasik s, when appointed as head of the agency that ran the ARPANET,
first action was to receive an e mail address and access to the ARPANET on his portable
computer. He was also one of the very first business men who promoted the idea of
using mailbox systems like Tomlinson s for work related communication. During
meetings he would use his computer to dial up his mail to view. Many workers saw this
as a way to get the boss approval on an idea quickly. But by 1973 three quarters of all
traffic on ARPANET was e mail. With the e mail flow was so large and Lukasik being
the boss, his e mail was piling up in his in box. The day after talking to Larry Roberts
about his e mail situation, Roberts came in with a bit of
Foreign Direct Investment Trends Of Kenya
DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION 4.1 FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT
TRENDS IN KENYA. Kenya has recently experienced a surge in foreign direct
investment (FDI) following a period of substantial declines in FDI inflows near the turn
of the century. Net FDI flows to Kenya have not only been highly volatile but also
generally declined in the 1980s and 1990s. Kenya s total FDI as a percentage of GDP
rose from 4.21 percent in 1980 to 7.39 percent in 2000 however this declined to 5.17
percent in 2006 and currently FDI as a percentage of GDP is a 7.52 percent (UNCTAD,
2014). The investment wave of the 1980s dwindled in the 1990s as the institutions that
had protected both the economy and the body politic from arbitrary interventions were
eroded. The FDI inflows to Kenya since 2008 have considerably improved from
$96Million to $514Million in 2013. In recent years, China has emerged as a key source
of FDI in Kenya. Figure 1: FDI Inflows in Eastern Africa Key: Y axis Inward FDI

General Instructions for All Written Assignments
Each week you will have a short written assignment. Though each assignment is slightly
different, this should serve as general instructions for all assignments.
Formatting: All assignments should be completed as Microsoft Word documents. They
should be between 2 and 3 pages and be double spaced with standard indentation. The
font should be size 12, Times New Roman. You should create a short title page including
your name, the date, the assignment title, and the instructor s name. The page limit does
NOT include the title page or bibliography.
Writing: Your writing should demonstrate both a factual understanding of the topic at
hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
+ Unsatisfactory (less than 14 points). The student does not know enough facts about the
argument, and does not use clear logic to support the facts they do know.
20 Points for Formatting
Formatting refers to the student s ability to communicate effectively within the paper.
This refers to grammar, proper formatting of the document, and syntax. A student also
receives credit for having the proper page length (2 3 pages). A paper with three or less
mistakes will receive 15 19 points. A paper with multiple minor mistakes will receive
anywhere between 10 14 points, while a paper which is presented too poorly to be
considered a college level paper will receive anywhere from 0 13 points.
I cannot overemphasize the importance of formatting in the written assignments. Always
make certain to use spell checker and to reread your paper at least two times before
submitting. You will be amazed at the number of mistakes you will catch this way.
10 Points for Sources
Sources must be formatted properly in APA or MLA style. There is no set amount of
sources needed, but a student must remember that they should be able to back up each
statement with a reliable source. If you are using dates, statistics, or facts that are not
common knowledge, it is usually proper to use a citation. Also, the quality of sources will
be graded. Remember, Wikipedia and other open encyclopedias are NOT credible
sources. Be careful what you cite!
Failure Of The Berlin Blockade
As one of the crucial points of the Cold War, the Berlin Blockade of the Soviets and
the Berlin Airlift of the Allies displayed failure in Soviet aggression in contrast with
the success achieved by the peace seeking Western Allies. The Berlin Blockade of the
East Germans effectively blocked the Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to
the Berlin sectors under Western control. As a direct siege on half of Berlin, the Allies
came to this problem with an ingenious solution an airlift. A little under four hundred
thousand tons of food, coal, and supplies were flown over the East German sectors and
into West Berlin. Initially, the Soviets hoped the Allies would find the airlift too
expensive, and would altogether abandon their sectors in Berlin; however, the contrary
happened, and the airlift proved a great success, with the Berliners receiving an average
calorie amount higher than the UK food rationing system provided. Lasting for a little
less than a year, the airlift kept Western presence in Berlin, as well as displaying Western
cooperation and advancement. Soviet expectations behind the Blockade were reversed in
the success of the Airlift, seeking to expel Western presence from Berlin they attempted
to lay siege, however this obstacle was quickly overcome and the Blockade came nothing
close to what the Airlift had accomplished.
Similarly, the construction of the Berlin Wallduring the Berlin Crisis revealed Soviet
flaws and shortcomings in their occupation of
Manufacture of Hairspray and Dimethyl Ethle Production
Essay
Executive Summary.
Aerosol hairspray cans are a cosmetic product used by 86% of women in the United
States.(3) The consumer demand for hair products has stayed relatively steady since the
invention of hairspray. Industrial suppliers can increase their net profit of aerosol
hairspray production by analyzing and possibly optimizing their manufacturing process,
mores specifically, the production of the most widely used aerosol propellant, dimethyl
ether (DME). The optimization of a thermally coupled DME reactor (OTCDR) proves to
be economical, energy sufficient, and increase the net profit of the industrial plant. It is
in the best interest of industrial aerosol hairspray manufacturers to consider multiple

Hydrofluorcarbons (HFC s) are a new class of recently developed propellants, they share
many of the same properties as CFC s but are less polluting. Several popular HFC s
include 1,1 difluoroethane and 1,1,1,2, tetrafluoromethane. These propellants are
relatively expensive but formulate fast drying. Currently the most commonly used
propellant is dimethyl ether (DME).
DME has been receiving a growing attention all over the world in recent years, the
study on the synthesis of DME is the process of most interest in regards to the
production of hairspray. The production of hairspray is shown in Figure 1. Several
methods of dimethyl ether are discussed. Optimization of a DME production process is
discussed and analyzed. The process of DME production is discussed because of the
promising energy consumption and economical value.
Dimethyl Ether
Dimethyl Ether is the most widely used propellant in aerosol cans in the United States
(85%). Based on DuPont knowledge, national production of DME is 15 to 20 million
kilograms in the United States. This production is distributed across the following
primary uses: industrial feedstock for the product of other chemical substances (31%),
hairsprays (48%), spray paints (6%), insect repellents/insecticides (6%), adhesives (5%),
household cleaners (1%), dusters (1%), tire inflators
How Do Laws Affect Elections
American politics have experienced many changes over the past 200 years. The
political parties we know today have evolved from many smaller factions to what we
have today. Laws have changed in an attempt to control political parties but somehow
they find a way around laws through creative changes or with help from the high court.
One of the biggest issues with politics and electionsis that money is to great an influence.
Money is a major factor in who controls elections and eventually policy that governs all
of us. The problem today is that there is too much money in our elections, which distracts
candidates from the problems of the majority to the problems of the few who donate
significant amounts.
Clean Elections in America
Lawmakers have made several attempts to control how much money is allowed into
elections during the many different time periods of American history. The Bipartisan
Campaign Reform Act of 2002, also known as the McCain Feingold Act did attempt to
limit the amounts of money in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Publicly funded elections could come from federal income tax which would raise
millions of dollars at even a tenth of a percent per pay check. This cost would be a few
cents for lower income people to a few dollars to the middle class. The wealthy would
pay the most, but even at a very lower percentage of income, it would still be cheaper
than today s prices. The second section of the publicly funded elections amendment is
that there would be a spending limit based on the office. The higher the office, the
more would be allowed to be spent. Not only would this keep costs down for tax
payers, but candidates would be on a more equal playing field and would not have to
outspend one another. Their message would still be exposed through televised debates
and news stories as seen
Berkeley s Argument For The Dismissal Of Material Objects...
To be just is to be perceived , or as Irish philosopher George Berkeley prefers to put it,
esse est percipi . In this argument, Berkeley details extensively how material objects,
as humans have come to know them, do not exist. Berkeley uses a series of premises
to aid in the elimination of skepticism surrounding the existence of the world humans
have come to know and grow fond of. At first read, Berkeley s conclusion that the
abstract ideas of substance, matter, or any physical objects simply are not real is very
hard to grasp when humans have based their justifications on what is real versus not
real on their own senses, and the validation of other people. However, Berkeley does
an excellent job of making an argument one cannot refute. In order to fully understand
Berkeley s argument for the dismissal of material objects, one must understand his
preceding argument on abstract ideas. According to Berkeley, the existence of abstract
ideas is actually a myth. Humans tend to generalize concepts, such as the general idea
of a table, a car, or a triangle, for example. However, Berkeley claims in his argument that
there is no explainable way to have a general idea of anything. So if someone tells
another to think of a table, that person will have a very specific picture of a very
specific table maybe a brown dining table with large, carved wooden legs, or a plastic
folding table. There is not one table that has all of the characteristics of a table and none
of them at the

Geography Of Bliss By Eric Weiner
I am a very stubborn person when it comes to accepting other people s perspective of
life , or to compare what makes me happy to that of others. Reading a book geography
of bliss written by Eric weiner, helped changed my believes. I was amazed at how
other people around the world live their lives on daily basics ,weather rich or poor
they still find ways and reasons to live in peace, be happy and co exist together. While
reading the geography of bliss, I got to understand that, Happiness comes from the
deepest part of a free and willing heart. So many people search for happiness in places
they can t find it, not knowing that it comes from within. If you do not have happiness
within yourself, then there is nothing anybody else can do to make you happy. In
Netherlands ,lifestyle regulates around freedom. So many things that were considered
taboo and against the law in other countries, in Netherlands this things are normal and
an everyday lifestyle. Although Eric weiner made it seem like Netherlands is not a
place where you can live happy because he believes that how they live their life in
Netherlands could get out of hand one day and cause problems that might lead to ciaos
in the country. In away this is true but in the other hand I disagree because from my
understanding the government provides proper health care system and security for the
people just like in Switzerland. The government of this countries has provided an
atmosphere for peace

Essay On Social Justice Warriors
Looking back to the very beginnings of this country, the drive and the consistent fight for
change is what brought upon the means to actually create it. The founders of this country
wanted to make sure that rules and regulations would not be imposed but established in a
way that The People were allowed to contest and abolish the laws that they deemed unfit
for their country. Whether it be fighting for equality as an ethnicity, gender, or sexuality,
social justiceis something that America was built upon, and the people leading this fight
are now seen as social justice warriors. Currently, these warriors , who find themselves
fighting in this era for social issues, are crusading on Twitter and other social media

Andy Williams Narrative
December 25, 2012. Red garland is strewn across every available surface in the
household. Andy William s voice croons out of an old radio, It s the most wonderful
time of the year, and my mother twirls around and laughs merrily, dancing and singing
along as she checks the turkey in the oven. My father and I are sat at the kitchen table,
tediously working a Christmascrossword, occasionally mumbling letters and answers
to each other. As my mother checks the oven for quite literally the fifteenth time this
hour, the phone shrills a loud and interrupting tone. The muffled Christmas tunes are
immediately silenced and my mother picks up the phone with a cheery Hello! Her
face darkens after a few seconds and I hear mumbled words and half shouts coming
from the receiver. Words such as labor , baby , and most importantly NOW! pierce the
quiet room and my eyes go as wide as saucers. My mother immediately begins to untie
her apron with clumsy fingers and my father is standing next to her now, trying to make
sense of what is going on. Within minutes, I am bustled into a winter coat and some
boots as my familyrushes out to the car.

Content Based Information Retrieval (CBIR) is the field that constitutes representation
of images, organizing and searching of images based on their content rather than
annotations of image. CBIR, also known as query by image content and content based
visual information retrieval (CBVIR) is the application of computer vision techniques to
the image retrieval problem, that is, the matter of checking out digital pictures in massive
databases.
Content based implies that the search analyzes the contents of the image based not on

Images with higher similarity than threshold are returned as an output. System which
uses the content of the object for Information Retrieval is the CBIR.
There are many applications of Content Based Information Retrieval. Image retrieval is
one of the applications of CBIR. Few applications of CBIR are art collections,
architectural and engineering design, crime prevention, Defense, Face detection etc.
Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia data.
CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high
dimensionality. With the increase in the dimensionality CBIR becomes time consuming
system and highly computation bound. Also with variety of applications of CBIR, there
is need to preserve the privacy of user interest.
A. Need of the Privacy Preservation in CBIR
Privacy can be outlined as The quality of being secluded from the presence or view of
others . In CBIR user provides some Multimedia object (e.g. an image of trademark to
check whether the same trademark is already exist or not) as query and system
provides required results. During this process system must realize the similarity
between user query and objects in the database. At this time system gets the user query
and query reveals the content and interest of the user and here is the privacy leak in the
system. Here the original trademark can be compromised or can be copied. Generally
CBIR is multi party system, in which there are minimum 2 parties, User and
What Is The Meaning Of Unholy Sonnet 14
A dull routine can always cause artificial stimulants that can lead to not more than fake
results. In Unholy Sonnet 14 by Mark Jarman, he illustrates how the congregation is
becoming more of a social organization than a faith based community mainly because of
the routine it follows. The poem reveals how the typical congregation seeks for sin to be
forgiven. However, it also suggests that a congregation s conventional dull routine cannot
relive the pain of sin when it remains in the heart of the individual.
The octave of the poem describes the events of a typical church service, in the order they
commonly occur. Prayer occurs first, hymn/singing is the second, sermon third,
communion forth, and hand wringing fifth and last. At first, it may ... Show more content

The last sentence of the poem, There is still murder in your heart (14), is a powerful
claim that suggests that a routine consisting of prayer, communion, or hymn singing will
not dissolve the sin of the heart. However, seeing this claim from a different standpoint,
this can also suggest that this dull routine is convenient when it comes to preserving an
appearance of purity and grace. There is an image in the middle of the poem, light
swords (7), that possibly represents sharp members of the congregation trying to deceive
the church authorities and God. Their comfort to the routine is remarkable because it
does not really make a difference at the end; the only thing that truly matters is the
masked life they are trying to keep hidden. Readers may consider the arguments presented
in this poem as the truth reaching out to the contemporary church and its followers to
improve their relationship with
Icarus Metamorphosis
Oscar Wilde, in his quote that praises Icarus fearless flight, takes an opposing view to
the lesson learned from reading the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. In the myth,
Icarus hubris, or extreme arrogance, in defying the Gods and ignoring his father s
instructions about flying too close to the sun, is punished by his wings melting and
falling to his death. The theme is that one should respect rules and their elders and live
within their limits. However, Oscar Wilde put a different spin on the lesson to be learned
from Icarusadventure and tragedy. Wilde poetically said that Icarus success was his
fearless flight and that if he didn t take the risk of flying too close to the burning light
of the sun, then that would be the greatest tragedy of them all. He believes that the
adventures and risks we take in life are what make life worth living, and that a life
lived that does not experience the thrills of risk, adventure, and possibly success, even
for just a moment, is a life not well lived. In a sense, Wilde believes that hubris is
needed to do amazing things. The arrogance to ignore the risks may result in great
successes, and if you try hard and don t succeed, then even the brave attempt is success.
The only failure or tragedy is not to try at all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Homelessness Interview Essay
I met Julie at the Homelessness in Berkeley panel that she moderated in September. I
appreciated her discussion of the import of imagery, stereotypes, and language in
shaping our social structures and circumstances. For example, she explained that she
said people experiencing homelessness instead of homeless people to not label the
person as if to define them by their circumstances. I would add that the latter phrase, like
others of its ilk, can serve to insidiously naturalize those structures that harm folks and
thus seemingly absolve those of us with privilege within it of our duty to work to change
them. My interview with Julie expanded on this theme.

Importance of Grammar Essay
A.Introduction
It is not uncommon to say that grammar instruction plays an important role in language
teaching. Regarding the status and importance of grammar teaching, a variety of
opinions have been made. Batstone (1994) states that language without grammar would
be chaotic: countless words without the indispensable guidelines for how they can be
ordered and modified (p. 4). More vividly, Wang (2010) makes two similes. She
compares grammar to the frame of a house, which is a decisive factor to ensure the
solidness of it. Additionally, she regards grammar as a walking stick, whose function is to
help and support students to learn English. Thus, the nature of grammar instruction
manifests its own significance as it helps students ... Show more content on

B(1). Teaching philosophy
It is teachers beliefs rather than their knowledge that have a greater influence on their

about learners: resisters, receptacles, raw materials, clients, partners, individual explorers
and democratic explorers. Unlike the first three concepts which focus on teachers, the
last four require learners active involvement (as cited in William Burden, 2000). In Miss
Wong s teaching approach, a PPP model (i.e., Presentation, Practice and Production) is
generally adopted. She firstly presents target grammatical structure of passive voice. Then
students do some exercises along with teacher s answer checking. However, it seems the
final production step is omitted, resulting in students lacking opportunities to apply the
knowledge into other contexts. From her instruction, we can see Miss Wong tends to
regard her students as receptacles that are required to absorb the items she transmits.
What the instruction concerns is whether students can transform sentences from active to
passive or vice verse from a structural level, which is a typical example of a
Women in Tibet Essay
Women in Tibet
Although Buddhism embraces compassion as the means to end suffering, the Chinese
occupation of 1949 used force and torture to manipulate the Tibetan people, despite the
country s strong pacifist beliefs. Chinese troops aimed to imprison anyone who
demonstrates support for the Dalai Lama and often looked for excuses to make public
mockeries of these people. In order to implement this idea of genocide in Tibetan culture,
China used the practice of ethnic cleansing, or eliminating the Tibetan race; therefore,
women were highly stigmatized because of their role in bearing children. Treating the
victims as insects, the Chinese forced sterilizations and abortions upon the Tibetan
women to ensure their extermination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A possible reason for the Buddhist rejection of women lies in the Buddhist Tantric texts,
where the womb symbolizes the field of emptiness in which all things arise and fall
(Pinto, 1999). Even though the former description has no negative connotation, it is
widely believed in Asia that childbirth and menstruation are intrinsically dirty and
impure to the effect that women used to give birth in a location outside of the daily
home. A barn or cowshed was typical of harboring birthing events, and the mother and
baby had to perform certain rituals including the purification ceremony before they
could re enter the household. In order to purify the new born baby, the dirt and pollution
of the womb had to be cleaned away and even blessed so that the baby was not
contaminated by these fluids. Therefore, the Asian woman is spontaneously separated
and embraced by society when she gave birth (Pinto).
Spawning off of these instilled Asian beliefs, women are continued to be seen as dirty
and unsophisticated creatures, which may be a possible explanation for the cruelty and
inhumane treatment of feminine fertility by the Chinese. The raping of Tibetan girls by
Chinese soldiers and encouragement of Chinese to marry Tibetan girls are two simple
examples to show the abuse and manipulation that women face (Campaign, 1994). Even
though these practices illustrate ethnic cleansing, the methodical rapings suggest that
women are solely objects that can be used and
Theme Of Symbols In Sons And Lovers
In Sons and lovers, D.H Lawrence has made a very clever use of symbols. The novel
abounds in symbolic objects and events. Yet they are so well integrated with the
narrative that they hardly ever appear obtrusive. When understood, these symbols adds
to the richness of the novel and enhances our appreciation of the novel. Mark Spikla
says The symbolic scenes are extremely literal and the symbols seem to function as
integral strands in the webs of emotional tensions. In Sons and Lovers, we have a host
of such symbolic scenes which have a catalytic effect upon the intensity of the plot and
action in the novel. The description of coal pits is symbolic. The coal pits standing at
the horizon are a concrete reality. The entire life of the community depends on them.
Their symbolic significance become clearer as the novel progresses that these coal pits
are a particular way of and a particular attitude towards life. They are closely associated
with Walter Morel who stands for an irrational life principle. Paul associated them...

The most important of these scene takes place when Paul, Miriam and Clara are
together in a open field in the country. Paul meets Clara for the first time and is
attracted to her. The three if them come to an open field and they begin to pick
flowers. Paul picks the flowers scientifically yet there is a natural beauty in is bunches.
His contact with the flowers is direct and spontaneous. He is alive and organic flowers
are his to take. Miriam picks the flowers lovingly and reverentially. As she picks them
she seems to be killing the life out of them. The bunches she makes do not have much
elegance. Her way of picking flowers suggest that she has no right to life. When it
comes to Clara, she states quite militantly tat flowers should not be picked as it kills
them. What she means to says she doesn t want to be picked by ay man. Comparing all,

Major Types Of Major Depressive Disorder
Major depressive disorder is a mental disorder characterized by a pervasive and persistent
low mood that is accompanied by low self esteem and by a loss of interest or pleasure in
normally enjoyable activities. The term depression is used in a number of different
ways. It is often used to mean this syndrome but may refer to other mood disorders or
simply to a low mood. Major depressive disorderis a disabling condition that adversely
affects a person s family, work or school life, sleeping and eating habits, and general
health. In the United States, around 3.4% of people with major depression commit
suicide, and up to 60% of people who commit suicide had depression or another mood
disorder. Suicide is characterized by a few things:... Show more content on

It is unclear whether medications affect the risk of suicide. Current and former patients
may be stigmatized.
The understanding of the nature and causes of depression has evolved over the centuries,
though this understanding is incomplete and has left many aspects of depression as the
subject of discussion and research. Proposed causes include psychological, psycho social,
hereditary, evolutionary and biological factors. Long term substance abuse may cause or
worsen depressive symptoms. Psychological treatments are based on theories of
personality, interpersonal communication, and learning. Most biological theories focus
on the monoamine chemicals serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, which are
naturally present in the brain and assist communication between nerve cells. This cluster
of symptoms was named, described and classified as one of the mood disorders in the
1980 edition of the American Psychiatric Association s diagnostic manual. Major
depression significantly affects a person s family and personal relationships, work or
school life, sleeping and eating habits, and general health. Its impact on functioning and
well being has been compared to that of chronic medical conditions such as diabetes.
A person having a major depressive episode usually exhibits a very low mood, which
pervades all aspects of life, and an inability to experience pleasure in activities that were
formerly enjoyed. Depressed people may be
Perso-Islamic Synthesis Essay
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the Islamization of Persia in relation to the
Samanid and Buyid Dynasties. The synthesis of Persian culture and Islam was not an
immediate result of the Arab expansion into Iran and there is certainly a lack of research
on the subject. However, in this essay, I will attempt to explain the contributions of the
Samanid and Buyid dynasties to this synthesis with a focus on the attempts of the
Samanid Dynasty at centralization and a unified identity through religion, language and
culture.
The Islamization of Iran occurred as a result of the Arab conquest of Persia. The
institution of a new culture, especially if the new culture is being installed by one less
organized or less capable than the culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This period marked significant changes for Persia since there was a large movement of
immigration directed towards the region from the Arabian Peninsula.
After Persia was conquered, the people began to convert to Islam and landowners gave
their properties to Islam and were granted even more land as a result of the conversion.
Further, the Zoroastrians were in fact the ones most enraged by the conversion to Islam
as they were involved in occupations that involved impurities such as working with fire,
etc. Missionaries did not really encounter much opposition as it became quite easy to
convert the Persians into Islam alluding to the fact that there were already many
similarities and that transforming, or converting, was really not such a hard task.
Muslim leaders would also win conversions by attending public Muslim prayers,
promising money and allowing for the Qur an to be recited in Persian and not Arabic, so
that all could understand what the Qur an was really trying to say. The Samanids, who
were originally based in the Zoroastrian nobility, started their own conversion process
encouraging people become Sunni Muslims. In fact, during the reign of the Samanids in
the 9th century, the Qur an was translated into Persian completely.
The Buyid Dynasty
The Buyid Dynasty, originated from the Daylam in Galian, is considered the Shi ite
Persian dynasty. They controlled most of Iran and Iraq during the 10th and 11th century.

My Mother Is My Mom
My mom is my greatest ally in life because she supports me no matter what happens.
She is my role model because she is strong willed, kind hearted and amazing in every
way. She is always there when I need her, and she helps me during hard times. She
gives great advice when I need it, and it is always the base to all my decisions. She
steers me in the right direction and holds me up when I am about fall. She stands
beside me in all my most important decisions. Whether the situation may be small or
big, happy or sad, good or bad, she will always be there for me. My mom always sees
the upside in everything I do. Even when I was little and I would mess up up
everything, she would always find something good about it. Whenever I complete or
achieve something, I always look forward to sharing it with my mom. She will always
appreciate it, so I will always have something to look forward to in the end of all my
hard work therefore is my light at the end of the tunnel. When I was five, we went to
India for vacation. On our way back, we had to switch flights in Frankfurt, Germany. I
was wearing my favorite shoes that day; they were squeaky on the airport floor. I
loved the squeaky noise and I was doing it over and over, but little did I know that this
happiness was soon going to come to an end. I kept inching along happily with my
parents until I fell. I was looking forward to getting onto the next plane when the ground
suddenly changed from shiny tiles to rugged carpeting. Since I
Essay On Judeo-Christian Worldviews
Man will either be governed by the Bible or the bayonet, John Adams once said. The
world is classified into many different worldviews, but two opposing worldviews are:
Judeo Christian and Humanism. From Matthew 28: 18 19, we see that Judeo
Christian is a worldview based on Biblical Truth, which Jesus Christ is the Creator of
all, and that stewardship is our duty. The proponents of this worldview think that man
is corrupt. On the other hand, Humanists believe that man is perfectible. Man is not
born with a sinful nature and could choose to be good. Man has chosen which way he
wants to be governed. They have elected which path he will take; either the Bible or
themselves. The Judeo Christian worldview of economics or power believes what is
taught in the Bible. In the Bible, God reveals that man was born sinful, does not do
well by injustice, should work, shouldn t depend on other people, and respect other
people s private property, through diligence they prosper, not become envious by other
people s property, man is created equal even if they are rich or poor, debt creates
bondage, and being righteous can help your life. They believe that God is the directed
government and that He is the internal force. If they need to come to a decision,... Show

Through Christ, internal liberty is restored. So external liberty is possible for all. The
state is instituted by God to protect man, which is why God gave us a government, so
we can be protected. Being protected means that we can provide peace for man s
progress. On the other hand, Humanism believes in cruelty. They have slavery, taxes, and
brutality to inferiors. That is no sympathy to the poor and suffering. While Judeo
Christians believe that all men are created equal, Humanists believes that there is a class
system. In this class system, only the upper classes enjoy the measure of freedom that the
government gave them. Making this external
Greek to Roman Architecture
When shown iconic pictures of the Parthenon and the Colosseum, most people
automatically know which building is Greek and which is Roman, However, show them
pictures of the Forum of Trajan, the Pantheon, or the Agora, and they will be flipping
coins trying to guess which is Roman architecture and which is Greek architecture. It is
one thing being able to identify which building belongs to which civilization, it another
being able to distinguish the subtle style changes within each mega structure. Very
similar to a textbook and essay, Greek architecture is like a textbook, and the Romans
used the textbook to write an essay. Although not completely copied or plagiarized the
foundation of Roman architecture is founded on Greek architecture. With the help of the
Etruscan and Roman ingenuity, the Romans were able to take Greek architecture to a
whole new level and call it Roman architecture. Greek architecture has been commonly
looked at as the building of democracy, often time people associate the post and lintel
building element with the Greeks. However, the Romans used post and lintel system in
their architecture too. One of the ways of distinguishing which building belongs to which
civilization, is simply looking at the style of columns used. There are three post and lintel
styles, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. The Greeks mainly used Doric and Ionic columns in
their architecture. The Parthenon is often viewed as the embodiment of Classical Doric
architecture (97). The
Cultural Values In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle Of A...
Gabriel Garcia Marques provides a unique platform in his novella, Chronicle of a Death
Foretold (COADF) to analyze facets of traditional Colombian values. The characters
provide context regarding particular sectors of religion, cultural values and social norms
throughout the novel. Marquez highlights a multitude of cultural juxtapositions
throughout all of his novels, however, COADF in particular comments on the social
hypocrisy of religion and the double standards due to gender norms throughout the novel.
In the novella, Angela Vicario s character highlights misguided principles and helps to
understand how women and other groups of people in the country are maltreated.
Common themes throughout the novel often victimize Angela Vicario, such as sexual
identity, alcohol abuse and religious scrutiny. Marquez conveys these themes through
imagery, symbolism, allegory and most especially periphrasis. This paper will
effectively highlight how these factors demonstrate the cultural discrepancy in
allowance of freedoms and the roles of women in the novel, and broader country.
Periphrasis is often considered to be a dreary, poorly written selection of a novel.
Readers often misunderstand its significance; however, Marquez is able to effectively
use the literary device to provide contextual evidence for his characters. When painting
traditional scenes of culture, especially through the magical realist lens that Marquez
utilizes, periphrasis allows for an in depth platform and

He needed a way to separate the e mail address from the username. He wanted a character that would not be used in the username. While looking at the standard keyboard used by most ARPANET users, he chose the @ symbol. Ray did not intend the program to be used on the ARPANET, like most mailbox programs it was intended to be used on local time sharing systems. It was designed to handle mail locally and not over wide distances. Stephen Lukasik s, when appointed as head of the agency that ran the ARPANET, first action was to receive an e mail address and access to the ARPANET on his portable computer. He was also one of the very first business men who promoted the idea of using mailbox systems like Tomlinson s for work related communication. During meetings he would use his computer to dial up his mail to view. Many workers saw this as a way to get the boss approval on an idea quickly. But by 1973 three quarters of all traffic on ARPANET was e mail. With the e mail flow was so large and Lukasik being the boss, his e mail was piling up in his in box. The day after talking to Larry Roberts about his e mail situation, Roberts came in with a bit of
  • 3. Foreign Direct Investment Trends Of Kenya DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION 4.1 FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT TRENDS IN KENYA. Kenya has recently experienced a surge in foreign direct investment (FDI) following a period of substantial declines in FDI inflows near the turn of the century. Net FDI flows to Kenya have not only been highly volatile but also generally declined in the 1980s and 1990s. Kenya s total FDI as a percentage of GDP rose from 4.21 percent in 1980 to 7.39 percent in 2000 however this declined to 5.17 percent in 2006 and currently FDI as a percentage of GDP is a 7.52 percent (UNCTAD, 2014). The investment wave of the 1980s dwindled in the 1990s as the institutions that had protected both the economy and the body politic from arbitrary interventions were eroded. The FDI inflows to Kenya since 2008 have considerably improved from $96Million to $514Million in 2013. In recent years, China has emerged as a key source of FDI in Kenya. • 5. Failure Of The Berlin Blockade As one of the crucial points of the Cold War, the Berlin Blockade of the Soviets and the Berlin Airlift of the Allies displayed failure in Soviet aggression in contrast with the success achieved by the peace seeking Western Allies. The Berlin Blockade of the East Germans effectively blocked the Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to the Berlin sectors under Western control. As a direct siege on half of Berlin, the Allies came to this problem with an ingenious solution an airlift. A little under four hundred thousand tons of food, coal, and supplies were flown over the East German sectors and into West Berlin. Initially, the Soviets hoped the Allies would find the airlift too expensive, and would altogether abandon their sectors in Berlin; however, the contrary happened, and the airlift proved a great success, with the Berliners receiving an average calorie amount higher than the UK food rationing system provided. Lasting for a little less than a year, the airlift kept Western presence in Berlin, as well as displaying Western cooperation and advancement. Soviet expectations behind the Blockade were reversed in the success of the Airlift, seeking to expel Western presence from Berlin they attempted to lay siege, however this obstacle was quickly overcome and the Blockade came nothing close to what the Airlift had accomplished. Similarly, the construction of the Berlin Wallduring the Berlin Crisis revealed Soviet flaws and shortcomings in their occupation of

  • 7. How Do Laws Affect Elections American politics have experienced many changes over the past 200 years. The political parties we know today have evolved from many smaller factions to what we have today. Laws have changed in an attempt to control political parties but somehow they find a way around laws through creative changes or with help from the high court. One of the biggest issues with politics and electionsis that money is to great an influence. Money is a major factor in who controls elections and eventually policy that governs all of us. The problem today is that there is too much money in our elections, which distracts candidates from the problems of the majority to the problems of the few who donate significant amounts. This cost would be a few cents for lower income people to a few dollars to the middle class. The second section of the publicly funded elections amendment is that there would be a spending limit based on the office. The higher the office, the more would be allowed to be spent. Not only would this keep costs down for tax payers, but candidates would be on a more equal playing field and would not have to outspend one another. Their message would still be exposed through televised debates and news stories as seen
  • 8. Berkeley s Argument For The Dismissal Of Material Objects... To be just is to be perceived , or as Irish philosopher George Berkeley prefers to put it, esse est percipi . In this argument, Berkeley details extensively how material objects, as humans have come to know them, do not exist. Berkeley uses a series of premises to aid in the elimination of skepticism surrounding the existence of the world humans have come to know and grow fond of. At first read, Berkeley s conclusion that the abstract ideas of substance, matter, or any physical objects simply are not real is very hard to grasp when humans have based their justifications on what is real versus not real on their own senses, and the validation of other people. However, Berkeley does an excellent job of making an argument one cannot refute. In order to fully understand Berkeley s argument for the dismissal of material objects, one must understand his preceding argument on abstract ideas. According to Berkeley, the existence of abstract ideas is actually a myth. Humans tend to generalize concepts, such as the general idea of a table, a car, or a triangle, for example. However, Berkeley claims in his argument that there is no explainable way to have a general idea of anything. So if someone tells another to think of a table, that person will have a very specific picture of a very specific table maybe a brown dining table with large, carved wooden legs, or a plastic folding table. There is not one table that has all of the characteristics of a table and none of them at the

Reading a book geography of bliss written by Eric weiner, helped changed my believes. I was amazed at how other people around the world live their lives on daily basics ,weather rich or poor they still find ways and reasons to live in peace, be happy and co exist together. While reading the geography of bliss, I got to understand that, Happiness comes from the deepest part of a free and willing heart. So many people search for happiness in places they can t find it, not knowing that it comes from within. If you do not have happiness within yourself, then there is nothing anybody else can do to make you happy. In Netherlands ,lifestyle regulates around freedom. So many things that were considered taboo and against the law in other countries, in Netherlands this things are normal and an everyday lifestyle. Although Eric weiner made it seem like Netherlands is not a place where you can live happy because he believes that how they live their life in Netherlands could get out of hand one day and cause problems that might lead to ciaos in the country. In away this is true but in the other hand I disagree because from my understanding the government provides proper health care system and security for the people just like in Switzerland. The government of this countries has provided an atmosphere for peace

Andy William s voice croons out of an old radio, It s the most wonderful time of the year, and my mother twirls around and laughs merrily, dancing and singing along as she checks the turkey in the oven. My father and I are sat at the kitchen table, tediously working a Christmascrossword, occasionally mumbling letters and answers to each other. As my mother checks the oven for quite literally the fifteenth time this hour, the phone shrills a loud and interrupting tone. The muffled Christmas tunes are immediately silenced and my mother picks up the phone with a cheery Hello! Her face darkens after a few seconds and I hear mumbled words and half shouts coming from the receiver. Words such as labor , baby , and most importantly NOW! pierce the quiet room and my eyes go as wide as saucers. My mother immediately begins to untie her apron with clumsy fingers and my father is standing next to her now, trying to make sense of what is going on. Within minutes, I am bustled into a winter coat and some boots as my familyrushes out to the car.

In Unholy Sonnet 14 by Mark Jarman, he illustrates how the congregation is becoming more of a social organization than a faith based community mainly because of the routine it follows. The poem reveals how the typical congregation seeks for sin to be forgiven. However, it also suggests that a congregation s conventional dull routine cannot relive the pain of sin when it remains in the heart of the individual. The last sentence of the poem, There is still murder in your heart (14), is a powerful claim that suggests that a routine consisting of prayer, communion, or hymn singing will not dissolve the sin of the heart. There is an image in the middle of the poem, light swords (7), that possibly represents sharp members of the congregation trying to deceive the church authorities and God. Their comfort to the routine is remarkable because it does not really make a difference at the end; the only thing that truly matters is the masked life they are trying to keep hidden. Readers may consider the arguments presented in this poem as the truth reaching out to the contemporary church and its followers to improve their relationship with
  • 18. Icarus Metamorphosis Oscar Wilde, in his quote that praises Icarus fearless flight, takes an opposing view to the lesson learned from reading the Greek myth of Icarus and Daedalus. In the myth, Icarus hubris, or extreme arrogance, in defying the Gods and ignoring his father s instructions about flying too close to the sun, is punished by his wings melting and falling to his death. The theme is that one should respect rules and their elders and live within their limits. However, Oscar Wilde put a different spin on the lesson to be learned from Icarusadventure and tragedy. Wilde poetically said that Icarus success was his fearless flight and that if he didn t take the risk of flying too close to the burning light of the sun, then that would be the greatest tragedy of them all. He believes that the adventures and risks we take in life are what make life worth living, and that a life lived that does not experience the thrills of risk, adventure, and possibly success, even for just a moment, is a life not well lived. In a sense, Wilde believes that hubris is needed to do amazing things. I appreciated her discussion of the import of imagery, stereotypes, and language in shaping our social structures and circumstances. For example, she explained that she said people experiencing homelessness instead of homeless people to not label the person as if to define them by their circumstances. I would add that the latter phrase, like others of its ilk, can serve to insidiously naturalize those structures that harm folks and thus seemingly absolve those of us with privilege within it of our duty to work to change them. My interview with Julie expanded on this theme. Unlike the first three concepts which focus on teachers, the last four require learners active involvement (as cited in William Burden, 2000). In Miss Wong s teaching approach, a PPP model (i.e., Presentation, Practice and Production) is generally adopted. She firstly presents target grammatical structure of passive voice. Then students do some exercises along with teacher s answer checking. However, it seems the final production step is omitted, resulting in students lacking opportunities to apply the knowledge into other contexts. From her instruction, we can see Miss Wong tends to regard her students as receptacles that are required to absorb the items she transmits. What the instruction concerns is whether students can transform sentences from active to passive or vice verse from a structural level, which is a typical example of a

Women in Tibet Essay Women in Tibet Although Buddhism embraces compassion as the means to end suffering, the Chinese occupation of 1949 used force and torture to manipulate the Tibetan people, despite the country s strong pacifist beliefs. Chinese troops aimed to imprison anyone who demonstrates support for the Dalai Lama and often looked for excuses to make public mockeries of these people. In order to implement this idea of genocide in Tibetan culture, China used the practice of ethnic cleansing, or eliminating the Tibetan race; therefore, women were highly stigmatized because of their role in bearing children. Treating the victims as insects, the Chinese forced sterilizations and abortions upon the Tibetan women to ensure their extermination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A possible reason for the Buddhist rejection of women lies in the Buddhist Tantric texts, where the womb symbolizes the field of emptiness in which all things arise and fall (Pinto, 1999). Even though the former description has no negative connotation, it is widely believed in Asia that childbirth and menstruation are intrinsically dirty and impure to the effect that women used to give birth in a location outside of the daily home. A barn or cowshed was typical of harboring birthing events, and the mother and baby had to perform certain rituals including the purification ceremony before they could re enter the household. In order to purify the new born baby, the dirt and pollution of the womb had to be cleaned away and even blessed so that the baby was not contaminated by these fluids. Therefore, the Asian woman is spontaneously separated and embraced by society when she gave birth (Pinto). Spawning off of these instilled Asian beliefs, women are continued to be seen as dirty and unsophisticated creatures, which may be a possible explanation for the cruelty and inhumane treatment of feminine fertility by the Chinese. The raping of Tibetan girls by Chinese soldiers and encouragement of Chinese to marry Tibetan girls are two simple examples to show the abuse and manipulation that women face (Campaign, 1994). Even though these practices illustrate ethnic cleansing, the methodical rapings suggest that women are solely objects that can be used and
  • 22. Theme Of Symbols In Sons And Lovers In Sons and lovers, D.H Lawrence has made a very clever use of symbols. The novel abounds in symbolic objects and events. Yet they are so well integrated with the narrative that they hardly ever appear obtrusive. When understood, these symbols adds to the richness of the novel and enhances our appreciation of the novel. Mark Spikla says The symbolic scenes are extremely literal and the symbols seem to function as integral strands in the webs of emotional tensions. In Sons and Lovers, we have a host of such symbolic scenes which have a catalytic effect upon the intensity of the plot and action in the novel. The description of coal pits is symbolic. The coal pits standing at the horizon are a concrete reality. The entire life of the community depends on them. Their symbolic significance become clearer as the novel progresses that these coal pits are a particular way of and a particular attitude towards life. They are closely associated with Walter Morel who stands for an irrational life principle. Paul associated them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His contact with the flowers is direct and spontaneous. He is alive and organic flowers are his to take. Miriam picks the flowers lovingly and reverentially. As she picks them she seems to be killing the life out of them. The bunches she makes do not have much elegance. Her way of picking flowers suggest that she has no right to life. When it comes to Clara, she states quite militantly tat flowers should not be picked as it kills them. What she means to says she doesn t want to be picked by ay man. Comparing all, Mark Spilka

Major Types Of Major Depressive Disorder Major depressive disorder is a mental disorder characterized by a pervasive and persistent low mood that is accompanied by low self esteem and by a loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. The term depression is used in a number of different ways. It is often used to mean this syndrome but may refer to other mood disorders or simply to a low mood. Major depressive disorderis a disabling condition that adversely affects a person s family, work or school life, sleeping and eating habits, and general health. In the United States, around 3.4% of people with major depression commit suicide, and up to 60% of people who commit suicide had depression or another mood disorder. The understanding of the nature and causes of depression has evolved over the centuries, though this understanding is incomplete and has left many aspects of depression as the subject of discussion and research. Proposed causes include psychological, psycho social, hereditary, evolutionary and biological factors. Long term substance abuse may cause or worsen depressive symptoms. Psychological treatments are based on theories of personality, interpersonal communication, and learning. Most biological theories focus on the monoamine chemicals serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, which are naturally present in the brain and assist communication between nerve cells. This cluster of symptoms was named, described and classified as one of the mood disorders in the 1980 edition of the American Psychiatric Association s diagnostic manual. Major depression significantly affects a person s family and personal relationships, work or school life, sleeping and eating habits, and general health. Its impact on functioning and well being has been compared to that of chronic medical conditions such as diabetes. A person having a major depressive episode usually exhibits a very low mood, which pervades all aspects of life, and an inability to experience pleasure in activities that were formerly enjoyed. • 24. Perso-Islamic Synthesis Essay The purpose of this essay is to discuss the Islamization of Persia in relation to the Samanid and Buyid Dynasties. The synthesis of Persian culture and Islam was not an immediate result of the Arab expansion into Iran and there is certainly a lack of research on the subject. However, in this essay, I will attempt to explain the contributions of the Samanid and Buyid dynasties to this synthesis with a focus on the attempts of the Samanid Dynasty at centralization and a unified identity through religion, language and culture. The Islamization of Iran occurred as a result of the Arab conquest of Persia. The institution of a new culture, especially if the new culture is being installed by one less organized or less capable than the culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This period marked significant changes for Persia since there was a large movement of immigration directed towards the region from the Arabian Peninsula. After Persia was conquered, the people began to convert to Islam and landowners gave their properties to Islam and were granted even more land as a result of the conversion. Further, the Zoroastrians were in fact the ones most enraged by the conversion to Islam as they were involved in occupations that involved impurities such as working with fire, etc. Missionaries did not really encounter much opposition as it became quite easy to convert the Persians into Islam alluding to the fact that there were already many similarities and that transforming, or converting, was really not such a hard task. Muslim leaders would also win conversions by attending public Muslim prayers, promising money and allowing for the Qur an to be recited in Persian and not Arabic, so that all could understand what the Qur an was really trying to say. The Samanids, who were originally based in the Zoroastrian nobility, started their own conversion process encouraging people become Sunni Muslims. In fact, during the reign of the Samanids in the 9th century, the Qur an was translated into Persian completely. The Buyid Dynasty The Buyid Dynasty, originated from the Daylam in Galian, is considered the Shi ite Persian dynasty. They controlled most of Iran and Iraq during the 10th and 11th century. The

When I was five, we went to India for vacation. On our way back, we had to switch flights in Frankfurt, Germany. I was wearing my favorite shoes that day; they were squeaky on the airport floor. I loved the squeaky noise and I was doing it over and over, but little did I know that this happiness was soon going to come to an end. I kept inching along happily with my parents until I fell. I was looking forward to getting onto the next plane when the ground suddenly changed from shiny tiles to rugged carpeting. Since I
  • 26. Essay On Judeo-Christian Worldviews Man will either be governed by the Bible or the bayonet, John Adams once said. The world is classified into many different worldviews, but two opposing worldviews are: Judeo Christian and Humanism. From Matthew 28: 18 19, we see that Judeo Christian is a worldview based on Biblical Truth, which Jesus Christ is the Creator of all, and that stewardship is our duty. The proponents of this worldview think that man is corrupt. On the other hand, Humanists believe that man is perfectible. Man is not born with a sinful nature and could choose to be good. Man has chosen which way he wants to be governed. They have elected which path he will take; either the Bible or themselves. The Judeo Christian worldview of economics or power believes what is taught in the Bible. In the Bible, God reveals that man was born sinful, does not do well by injustice, should work, shouldn t depend on other people, and respect other people s private property, through diligence they prosper, not become envious by other people s property, man is created equal even if they are rich or poor, debt creates bondage, and being righteous can help your life. Through Christ, internal liberty is restored. So external liberty is possible for all. The state is instituted by God to protect man, which is why God gave us a government, so we can be protected. Being protected means that we can provide peace for man s progress. On the other hand, Humanism believes in cruelty. They have slavery, taxes, and brutality to inferiors. That is no sympathy to the poor and suffering. While Judeo Christians believe that all men are created equal, Humanists believes that there is a class system. In this class system, only the upper classes enjoy the measure of freedom that the government gave them. Making this external
  • 27. Greek to Roman Architecture When shown iconic pictures of the Parthenon and the Colosseum, most people automatically know which building is Greek and which is Roman, However, show them pictures of the Forum of Trajan, the Pantheon, or the Agora, and they will be flipping coins trying to guess which is Roman architecture and which is Greek architecture. It is one thing being able to identify which building belongs to which civilization, it another being able to distinguish the subtle style changes within each mega structure. Very similar to a textbook and essay, Greek architecture is like a textbook, and the Romans used the textbook to write an essay. Although not completely copied or plagiarized the foundation of Roman architecture is founded on Greek architecture. With the help of the Etruscan and Roman ingenuity, the Romans were able to take Greek architecture to a whole new level and call it Roman architecture. Greek architecture has been commonly looked at as the building of democracy, often time people associate the post and lintel building element with the Greeks. However, the Romans used post and lintel system in their architecture too. One of the ways of distinguishing which building belongs to which civilization, is simply looking at the style of columns used. There are three post and lintel styles, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. The Greeks mainly used Doric and Ionic columns in their architecture. The Parthenon is often viewed as the embodiment of Classical Doric architecture (97). The
  • 28. Cultural Values In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle Of A... Gabriel Garcia Marques provides a unique platform in his novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold (COADF) to analyze facets of traditional Colombian values. The characters provide context regarding particular sectors of religion, cultural values and social norms throughout the novel. Marquez highlights a multitude of cultural juxtapositions throughout all of his novels, however, COADF in particular comments on the social hypocrisy of religion and the double standards due to gender norms throughout the novel. In the novella, Angela Vicario s character highlights misguided principles and helps to understand how women and other groups of people in the country are maltreated. Common themes throughout the novel often victimize Angela Vicario, such as sexual identity, alcohol abuse and religious scrutiny. Marquez conveys these themes through imagery, symbolism, allegory and most especially periphrasis. This paper will effectively highlight how these factors demonstrate the cultural discrepancy in allowance of freedoms and the roles of women in the novel, and broader country. Periphrasis is often considered to be a dreary, poorly written selection of a novel. Readers often misunderstand its significance; however, Marquez is able to effectively use the literary device to provide contextual evidence for his characters. When painting traditional scenes of culture, especially through the magical realist lens that Marquez utilizes, periphrasis allows for an in depth platform and
