Richard Rorty
Richard Rorty: starts his essay describing incredible brutality done by the hands of one group of
people (Serbs) to another (Muslims). The writer then elaborates on the logic behind such action as
he introduces the concept of human rights in the essay. He state that the actions done by the Serbs
in Bosnia to the Muslims are not a violation of humanrights. For the acts committed against
Muslims such as murder and rape weren t committed against fellow human beings but to Muslims.
They are not being inhuman, but rather are discriminating between humans and the pseudo humans.
Rorty then begins a brief explanation of pragmatism as it relates to the human rights culture. He
states that our human right culture is morally superior to other cultures,

Internal Conflict In The Bhagavad Gita
In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna struggles with whether or not to engage in battle with his relatives,
consulting his chariot driver, Hindu god Krishna. The Bhagavad Gita, describes a literal conflict
between Arjuna s family, but many also read it to include the internal conflict within the human
consciousness. Arjuana faces such a large conflict, because his path to peace, both internal and
external, is more conflict. In my opinion, the best way to achieve peace, both inner and external, is
non action. This sentiment is best expressed by the teachings surrounding Wu Wei in the Tao Te
Chingand the mindful trainings of Thich Naht Hanh in Interbeing. Non action allows you to avoid

According to Lao tzu, refraining from action allows you to remain open to possibilities non
action allows you to enjoy any and every present moment. In Interbeing, Thich Naht Hanh,
proposes that the key to peace is to be ready to learn, to observe, and remain in the present
moment. Hanh s suggestions seem to surround the opportunities that non action, as advised by
Lao Tzu, will open up for an individual look to lead a more mindful and open life. In the Tao Te
Ching, Lao Tzu explains through the principles of Wu Wei that the most effective path to peace is
non action. In the twenty eighth poem of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu writes, A block of wood can

On April 8, 2013, President Barack Obama spoke at the University of Hartford on behalf of
those who died in the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown
Connecticut. President Obama addressed the people of the state of Connecticut and on a federal
level. The broadcasting networks provided live coverage of President Obama s speech, and a
national audience listened as the president s addressing the issues and the next steps forward for
the country. The impact of this tragedy and previous massive shootings and Obama s explanation
have been a subject of a controversial debate. I plan on using the pentadic method to analyze

It is interesting to see and reveal the misconceptions of President Obama s motive to the speech for
more gun control and how politicians and individuals are stressing an emotional and safety concern.
Within this political environment, and with a charismatic and persuasive use of the pentads, the
rhetor s motive was to implement legislation regarding gun control. Barack Obama as the rhetor,
directed towards American people to pressure congress to pass new gun legislation in Connecticut,
where the massacre took place. After the December 16, 2012 shooting at Newtown Connecticut,
there has been a controversial debate among gun control. The National Rifle Association had
fiercely lobbied congress to oppose any gun regulations. In this artifact, Obama spoke on behalf of
the murders of twenty children and six adults killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. During his
speech, President Obama was hoping to build support among lawmakers for several gun control
measures, such as universal background checks. The president has the parents support to lobby for
gun legislation. In addition, Obama s proposal to ban assault rifles and limiting high ammunition
guns; majority of Republicans oppose this proposal. The research method I have demonstrated in
this paper is called Pentadic Criticism derived from Kenneth Burke whom made

The article started by mentioning that the common core have come under severe criticism by early
childhood education experts. Those experts say that the common cores are not developmentally
appropriate for students; and so as the American federation of teacher s president s Randi
Weingarten, which also called for revamping of these early educationstandards. Weingarten called
the early childhoodexpert Nancy Carlsson for the Defending the Early Years. Defending the Early
Years, a non profit project of the Survival Education Fund, was created to help students, parents,
and teacher understand why the common care states standards are not inappropriate for kid, third
grade. The document also helped teachers and parents advocate against Common Core State
Standards CCSS, and promote rules and in class practices that can best help meet children s needs.
The six reason to reject common core state standards from k to 3rd are: one, many k to 3rd grade
CCSS are not based on developmental knowledge of young children learning. The CCSS was made
to develop what is required at high school to the early year, but it had led to many mismatches. The
CCSS lists facts and knowledge that don t match how young children develop, think, or learn.
Another mismatch is that the CCSS requires young children to learn facts that they are not ready
for. It also led teachers teach didactic instruction instead of the experiential, play based activities,
and learning young children need. The second reason

Psychoactive Drugs Affects The Body
Psychoactive drugs are a substance that change and affect the consciousness, mood, behavior of
the person taking these drugs. The powerful effect that psychoactive drugs have on the brain is
caused by the chemicals in these substances that can replicate the chemicals found in the brain.
These chemicals are designed to be able to imitate the functions of chemicals in the brain; they act
primarily in the central nervous system affecting the neurons in the brain. There is an interruption
in communication of neurons which affects our bodies in different ways; some can stimulate
activity in the CNS, while others can depress and decrease the activity. There are many different
types of drugs that can change the brain chemistry in this way, two of these are narcotics and
stimulants. Psychoactive drugs change the way people that take them feel about things, narcotics
in particular change the way people feel about pain being that this substance is used to relieve
pain. This opiate is highly proficient in relieving the feeling of pain: a person taking a narcotic

Stimulants, such as coffee can safely be used to create a sense of awareness and alertness, helping
people stay awake to study and work. That would be an example of a legal way to use stimulants;
yet, there are also illegal stimulants such as, ecstasy and methamphetamines that many people
abuse. The adverse effects of abusing these substances repeatedly can lead to feelings of hostility
and paranoia, which can ultimately cause the person to make impulsive decisions. The damage that
stimulants do to the health of someone abusing the drug can be destructive because it can become

Career Cluster Survey Paper
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to tell about the career that was recommended to me after I took the
Career Cluster Survey. I m also going to tell what the career is and the steps I would have to pursue
in order to have this career someday. My goal is to someday have a career that I make enough
money to live a comfortable life. This means I want to focus on getting a job where a make a lot of
money.
My Survey Results
Based on my survey results I have learned that I want to have a career where I work with
technology. The survey was important because it pointed out the direction that I am headed in.
It also tells me that some of my strengths are working with technology involving math and
science. It also points out to me some of my weaknesses that I need to work on like interpreting,
reading, and following directions and figuring out what the directions are asking for. The top
career that the survey picked for me was Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In
this career, I would be planning and managing scientific research. The second career choice that
the survey picked for me was Information Technology. In this career, I would be designing and
developing softwares and hardware. I agree with the results of the survey because even though I
have several strengths I still have things I could get better at. I also agree with the survey because
the top careers that the survey picked for me were the career clusters that I thought I would get in
the beginning. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Same Deep Water As You: Tim O Brien s Methods To Overcome Loss Throughout the
1980s, Dr. Terence M. Keane ran experiments on a new idea called exposure therapy. The case
studied how victims of trauma would react to being repeatedly shown places, imagines, and
stories that mirrored theirs. In the study was twenty four veterans of the Vietnam War, and at the
end of the study, they no longer had reactions classified as severe anxiety. Like the veterans in
this case study, soldiers in Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried all experience the death of
their friend, Kiowa, which results in feelings of loss and trauma. In one way or another, all these

Psychically, he cleanses himself in same water that sourced his loss. He does not keep these
feelings to himself, like he so easily could, but instead he accepts them. The further he gets into the
mucky water, the more his mindset begins to shift for the positive. The guilt lifts and the story he is
planning to tell changes narrative: Near the center of the field, First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross
squatted in the muck, almost entirely submerged. In his head he was revising the letter to Kiowa s
father. Impersonal this time (176). Though the impersonalization of his thoughts seems like a
negative quality, it actually shows improvement. Jimmy is further into the water, and feeling less
responsible for the sudden death. He no longer thinks of his own opinions on Kiowa, just the
facts. He died. It was an accident. The order was from higher up, not even Jimmy. No one can be
blamed. No one should be haunted by the guilt. By being in the moment, and the setting, he is able
to clear his mind and come to realizations about it all. He sinks into the filth, and ironically,
becomes clean again. Eventually, he lets himself go into the water, ignoring everyone and
everything in that moment: But First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross wasn t listening. Eyes closed, he let
himself go deeper into the waste, just letting the field take him. [...] With his eyes still closed,
bobbing in the field, he let himself slip away. He was back home in

Frederick The Great Accomplishments
Frederick the Great is best remembered nowadays as the Prussian king who led his country to the
forefront of Europe through several wars and his domestic policies. Being an enthusiastic patron
of the arts, he is also remembered as being a talented musician and Enlightened despot who sought
to become the ideal platonic king . But while Frederick the Great pursued Enlightenment ideas and
patronage of the arts, he deserves the title, The Great , because of his military and state
achievements. While Frederick is remembered as a great military mind, ironically, as a child,
Frederick seemed to shun all of the militaristic views and habits of his father. Against his father s
wishes, he was interested in learning poetry, French, and music. His interests... Show more content

He will undoubtedly be remembered for his pursuit of Enlightenment ideas and patronage of the

stories of Frederick rallying the broken ranks at Hochkirch, being hit by a cannonball at Torgau,
or Frederick s rallying speech at Leuthen that were remembered by his men and subjects, not the
fact that Frederick was more interested in French than German, or that he played the flute. It
was Frederick s reforms of agriculture, economics, and preservation and expansion of Prussia
against all odds and enemies that people remembered, not the fact that Frederick wrote a
commentary on Machiavelli or had a different taste in music. We remember Frederick II in our
textbooks as Frederick the Great not because he was a patron of the arts or considered himself a
philosopher king, but because he used his army and reforms to turn the small backwater country of

The Bloody Chamber By Angela Carter
Loneliness is a complex and usually an unpleasant emotional response to isolation as well as
separation; it is a product of the lack of contact experienced with another individual. Moreover, it
includes anxious feelings due to the absence of connection or communication with other beings,
both in the present and extending into the future. Some describe it as emptiness or hollowness
inside of one s being. In the narrative The Bloody Chamber (1979), Angela Carter s characters deal
with the emotionof loneliness by taking action and intervening through any circumstances. In
contrast, in Zadie Smith s Hanwell in Hell (2004) the main characters Clive and Hanwell deal with
loneliness simply through hope. While over twenty years apart, these two narratives explore how
an individual deals with the notion of loneliness through the use of the colour red, the symbolism in
animals, and the condition of blindness. However, Carter illustrates the refusal of the protagonistto
simply accept any circumstances; but the interference in any situation. On the other hand, Smith
demonstrates the acceptance and balance of the existing situation at hand through hope. Writers and
poets use colors to represent concrete images of their characters, scenes and events. Language itself
uses a system of symbols, either verbal or written, which enables colors to have a deeper meaning.
Symbolism in literature demonstrates a profound meaning to words which in turn helps transform

There are about 30 different species of carpobrotus Rossii (Pigface) around the world. In
Australia there are four species which are seen mainly in coastal areas on sand dunes. Pigface is
a succulent plant that spreads up to 2 or more metres, flatly across the ground with thick waxy
succulent leaves growing up to 100mm long and has large daisy like flowers which grow about
45mm in diameter. This plant usually has purple petals with a white or yellow centre. fruits and

Data/information is always a most important asset for any organization whose security cannot be
compromised. With the advances in technology, the risk to these valuable assets increases. So
their security is a big challenge. In [8] different database security layers are defined shown in
figure (2) below. These layers are: database administrator, system administrator, security officer,
developers and employee. For each layer some well defined security policies have been anticipated.
These policies ensure the security features, privacy, confidentiality and integrity.
This study mainly focuses on issues in databases security and measures taken to solve those issues.
Securing sensitive data from illegal access, theft and forging becomes a big challenge for different
organizations, like government, no government and privates sectors. Encryption of data in client or
server side where data is shared between different parties is not sufficient.
Basically the problem is to ensure that semi trusted database is secure or not. [6]

Doubt and critical race theory as well as cultivation theory and how these theories can be applied
to the human interactions in Unreasonable Doubt. In John McHale s Unreasonable Doubt, video

demonstrates that racism is still prominent in today s society and that it is common, ordinary, and

The spiral of silence refers to when people mute or do not voice their opinions. This can be
related to the boys of the Sudanese refugee camps. It is hard to tell just how many boys took the
long journey, survived, and are now prospering in other places because they are not talking
about it. I think another factor of the spiral of silence principle is that people do not want to
speak about it because of the fear of the public opinion. I think people are reluctant to talk about
things that may have happened in the past due to the fear of being judged or people simply not
caring. I think if more people were informed about the help that can be provided to the lost
Sudanese boys that more of them would come forward and more people would be willing to hear

Can A Motive Be A Theme
Even though Motive and theme are two distinct terms that describe two different kinds of melodic
units in music, a motive can still be a theme. To explain this in more detail, first one would have to
define each of the terms. Motive is defined by what a composer is trying to communicate through
their musical work. A motive is but a component of a theme. A theme being according to The
Enjoyment of Music textbook a melodic idea in a large scale work (Chapter 6). So how exactly
can a motive be a theme? Motives are key in order to create an overall theme in a musical
composition. Without motives, a theme cannot exist. A motive in itself is just smaller themes
broken into smaller melodic units. If the motives have the same ideas as the theme,

Sony Computer Entertainment Vs Connectix Corporation Summary
Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation
Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation, 203 F.3d 596 (2000), is a result of the
Ninth Circuit Court of applications which governed the replication of a copyrighted BIOS software
through the progress of an emulator software does not institute copyright violation but is protected
by reasonable usage.
The court also ruled that Sony s PlayStation symbol had not been tarnished by Connectix Crop s
sale of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station.
Context of the case
Connectix begins the progress of the Virtual Game Station (VGS) in July 1998 as a Macintosh
software application that matches Sony s current Play Station video games console s hardware and
firmware.
This would make it likely for VGS operators to play games advanced for the play station on
Macintosh hardware, with strategies to announce a Windows PC well matched variety at a future
day.
Connectix s development approach was constructed upon inverse engineering the play Station s
BIOS firmware, primary by means of the uncharged BIOS to progress imitation for the hardware,
and then by evolving a BIOS of their own using the unique firmware as an aid for fixing.
Throughout the progress work, Connectix communicated Sony, demanding technical support for
finishing the VGS, but this appeal was finally decayed in September 1998.
The Video Game Station growth touched conclusion in December 1998, with the software actuality

Three Stage Model Of Kurt Lewin s Change Model
Model of Change
Kurt Lewin s Change Model
Kurt Lewin presents his three phase model for managing change. Three stages are unfreezing,
change and refreeze or freeze. This model seems to be very simple but it is possible to take is to
different level of complexity too. It depends on the organization and its structure.
In first stage the need of change is realized. This stage focused that we lived in a dynamic
environment which is constantly changing. It is emphasized that change is necessary for progress
and a sense of urgency is created among the team members. It states that as early as we adopt the
change it will beneficial at organizational level and as well as at individual level.
The stage emphasis that changes is not an event rather it is a process. It is also called stage of
transition. This is hardest stage as a lot of resistant may came from members. It is very difficult to

Feminism In Angela Carter
Angela Carter does not speak of a Feminism that succumbs to patriarchal pressure. She allows
certain cracks and fissures to become visible in patriarchal structure and roles. Her treatment of
the characters and situations is notably ambitious. Her reworking of myths and weaving of
imaginary situations evoke ideas of liberation and changes. Carter s female heroes in The
Passion of New Eve and Nights at the Circus are not merely victims of sexual harassment or rape.
They are masculine females able to pose a challenge to all patriarchal norms. Both these novels
provide Carter opportunities to redefine masculinity. She succeeds in crediting her female
protagonists with strong degree of autonomy and in making her male protagonists convincingly
drawn human beings. Carter s imaginary flights to worlds where women are installed as beings of
power are prophetic in every sense. Both Fevvers and the New Eve are symbolic representations...

To ensure the safe and free future of women, she deconstructs the myth of the creation of Eve.
The events treated in the novel take place in an unspecified future when urban civilization is on

objects. He is involved in a torrid love affair with the black prostitute Leilah. But he is duly

Charles Baudelaire Dance Analysis
As Charles Baudelaire said The dance can reveal everything mysterious that is hidden in music,
and it has the additional merit of being human and palpable. Dancing is poetry with arms and
legs. Ballet, is one of the oldest, well designed, and passionate ways of dance that can explain
without world the meaning of what Baudelaire said. Ballet is not an essay task, and requires
strength, discipline, and devotion. It s known for being swift, and romantic as well as unique, and it
stands out in between the rest of the art.

from Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op. 29, 1875. These melodies also evoke passion, romance, and
many feelings like the other ones did. The instrumental portion was incredible was like a violin and

In conclusion, I must admit that Jewels Ballet was my first classical concert. I thought that coming

emotions that are impossible to describe. If you think in all these together, you can see that the
combination of dance and music go hand to hand, and can create magnificent fusions of
entertainment like Jewels Ballet performed

Perry Smith Character Analysis
Perry Smith longed for affection from his father and he never received it. This created father
issues that are displayed throughout Perry s life. Perry s actions alluded to his child like
behavior in his heart. Perry looked up to his father, but never received that attention he need at a
young age, from this Perry had been left feeling alone. Throughout Perry s feel tried to fill the
void his father left in his heat, with other important men in his life. Perry s abandonment issues
stemmed from the lack of a genuine relationship with his father; which forced him to seek
attention from male figures present in his life. Perry Smith is still a child at heart. He fantasizes
about treasure hunts and finding gold, as if he is still a little kid. When Perry had been with
Dick he talked about a treasure map he wanted to use after they concluded their murder, This is
authentic. I ve got a map. I ve got the whole history. (100). Perry is always trying to make up for
his lost childhood, he never got to fantasize as a child, so this desire is still present in this adult life.
Perry never felt that he was properly loved as a child. Like most children Perry needed to be loved
on by a parentor parental figure, sadly Perry never revived the loveand the effects can still be seen
throughout his life. He never got the encouragement that most kids receive. Perry states, I never
got any encouragement from him [Perry s Father] or anybody else. (133). Sense Perry he never got

The Internet and Video Advertisement
A print advertisement is normally described as a newspaper, catalog, or magazine. Print
advertising is one of the many drives for getting your post or message across to your general
audience. Print advertisement is one of the most used ways and is one of the most used methods
that has been effective. Print advertisement is known for working because the readers can see the
products and actually read up on the product and find out the phone number, fax number, email
address, and point of contact. In most print advertisements, the image has to be very strong and
catchy and sometimes humorous. In a print advertisement, if it is humorous it is another effective
way to engage the audience and the audience is more willing to pay attention.
Video advertising is an online display that occurs on the internet. It is usually played before, during,
or after a video stream. Internet websites like sky.com and itv.com have video advertising on their
sites. In 2010, video advertising accounted for almost 13% of videos watched. Interaction within
video advertisements online moves costumers to research the product or material more and they
then are willing to buy what is being advertisement. It has been proven that 85% of video
advertisements online are not achieving their goal to consumers, making the video advertisements
worthless. Choosing the right video advertisement can mean so much for the product and the
company.

Taking a Look at the Linotype Machine
In 1885 the printing of information would change dramatically upon the invention of the Linotype
machine. Ottmar Mergenthaler s invention fostered a thriving print culture in American history.
This machine increased the production of printing with the advanced procedure known as line
casting. This allowed text to be printed one line at a time, instead of printingone typeset at a time.
This complex yet innovative machine allowed companies such as newspapers to educate the masses
in a rapid manner. By the twentieth century, many countries were using the new typesettingmachine
to educate its own people in a fast and coast efficient manner.
The Linotype machine was invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler. Mergenthaler was a German
watchmaker who migrated to America in early 1870 s. While Mergenthaler was still in his twenties
he moved to Baltimore where he began to work on machines that were used in print production.
These machines were structured to preform typewriting and lithography functions. Mergenthaler
began to envision a machine that could produce multiple castings of type. During this period there
were many inventors working on typesetting innovations. Ottmar not only wanted his machine to
produce cast type, but he wanted it to produce type in lines of text at the same time. He also
wanted the machine to stamp out matrices and cast the metal as well. To accomplish his goal,
Mergenthaler went through a lot of trial and error. By 1885 the Linotype machine was a success.

Dr. Seuss A Purpose Driven Life
A Purpose Driven Life Dr. Seuss wrote in his book Happy Birthday to You, Today you are You,
that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. Every essence of our being,
from our personalities to our DNA is different from everyone else in this world. Many of these
distinctions are apparent in the classroom setting and at times can prove challenging for a
teacher. Some students may learn the lessons very quickly while others may take extra time and
may need out of class help. These differences will affect their ability to learn and grow as a
student and the strategies I implement in my classroom will affect their ability to succeed. When

In order to accommodate the students who may not have the resources that wealthier students
have, I will either provide the resources (print out articles, give them books, allow them to use
class time to go to the computer lab etc.) or alter the assignment so it does not require them to
use resources they don t have. Two of the most common learning disabilities are ADHD and
hyperactivity. For students who are inattentive it is important to put specific topics in a
checklist style and perhaps on a printout or in worksheet form so they can go through the topics
at home. Doing worksheets at outside of class or even just alone may help them pay attention.
Also, for the students who tend to watch the clock it may be beneficial to begin the lesson with
a checklist of all that will be covered in class that day. That way, they can mentally check off the
topics instead of count down the minutes until class is over. Some good strategies to use with
children who are impulsive include giving immediate feedback for their behavior, especially
positive reinforcement. (McAllister 2012) Also, for these students it may be necessary to post
behavior rules or guidelines somewhere in the classroom. Some of these methods appear to be
somewhat elementary so to alter them to fit a high school setting, I would have the students come
up with their own rules to give them a sense of responsibility. Another idea is to have points or
tokens earned for good

The Hapsburg Valois Wars Of 1494 To 1559
The Hapsburg Valois Wars of 1494 to 1559 are often confused with the Italian Wars. However the
Italian War were a completely different set of wars. The Hapsburg Valois Wars were very much
intertwined with these wars. The latter arose from the instability of the Italian peninsula, which
was divided among a number of vulnerable powers, and also from a new willingness of outside
rulers to intervene. Initially, the most influential was Charles VIII of France (1483 1498), he
invaded Italyin 1494, and manage to take over Naples that following March. Charles s success was
particularly achieved due to his advanced equipment. The cannons used iron shot, which allowed
smaller projectiles to achieve the same destructive impact as a larger stone shot. This made for
smaller, lighter, and ultimately more maneuverable cannons.... Show more content on

Prior to this intellectual property was addressed in the American Constitution stating that inventors
would have exclusive rights to their discoveries. The Patent Act made patents last for fourteen years
and gave inventors exclusive rights to their invention. There was no possibility of extending this
time. Many inventors argued that this was unsatisfactory and that since inventions could take many
years to initially be commercialized they did not have much time to make use of their patent.
Another key point in the act was that foreigners were not allowed to apply for patents. The
Secretary of State, the Secretary of War, and the Attorney General were the only three people
initially given power to approve or reject patents. Patents were examined by these three to ensure
applications met the given criteria but this process was criticized as taking an unreasonable amount
of time to complete. It could take months before a patent was sufficiently examined.
2.3 Patent Reform
There have been a multitude of times in history where patent laws have been either updated or
thrown out. The Patent Acts of 1793 and 1837 are two such cases. These acts reformed how patents
were processed, changed what the criteria for patents were, and organized how patents were filed.
In 1849 the Department of the Interior became responsible for managing patents. The Patent Act

And Disadvantages Of A Separate Army
INTRODUCTION
Joint warfare and separate military have their advantages and disadvantages, the benefits of the war
force joining together and forming a separate and single unit.
BENEFITS OF JOINT WARFARE The benefits of joint forces to forming a single unit includes
all the members i.e. service members having the tactical knowledge, understanding and the
operational procedures and capabilities of each unit that will be joint together. They also reduce
casualties in mission that they go to due to the joint understanding of each unit. Joint warfare and
units of forces allows the forces to be able to adapt to new and modern patterns of war. During the
war, an opportunity to grab and have an understanding of the war and the tactics and not just the
individual war departments or unit where they will have different deals and tactics which may in
turn not have any synchronization in the pattern of execution. The joint unit can handle different
aspects of war like the Navy, Air force separately through the air, the military on the ground, and all
working at the same time together will reduce the time of operation and make it faster. Joint forces
would also be advantageous due to the monetary aspects, whereby the monetary systems ... Show

The Blue Planet: Seasonal Seas
Like how seasons are the changes on land, they can also be apply to oceans in temperate
latitudes. The most productive seas on the planet are the seasonal seas because they border the
temperate parts of the world where conditions change throughout the year. The power of the sun is
constantly changing; hence there are different seasons even under the seas due to the different in

Compare And Contrast Siddhartha
In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse each character seeks enlightenment or already has

to finding it differently. Both Siddhartha and Govinda find enlightenment but both in very different
ways which just shows that there is no one true way to reach that state Siddharthabelieves that to
find one s true peace you must experience it and not hear it from teachers. Siddhartha does learn
things from teachers like wisdom from the Brahman, skills from the Samanas and the teachings
from Gotama but he knows theses teachings will not lead to enlightenment. Siddhartha seeks
enlightenment at any cost even if he has to leave loved ones like his friends and family.
Something that helps Siddhartha reach this state is his patience because he didn t reach
enlightenment until he was an old man and if he wasn t patient as he kept messing up and failing
he never would have reached his goal because he would have eventually given up. Siddhartha left

My Worst Day
I never imagined that my horrible day at work would turn into such an amazing night. I was
pretty upset that I was not going to be able to spend Christmas with my boyfriend of two years
Tate and his mother Penny at their house because both of our family s were having their family
Christmas the same day. So when I got his text it started to turn the night around. I was eager for
him to open his giftfrom me. Also to see what he had snatched up for me. As I was putting my last
resident in to bed at work as I did every night as a certified nurses aide at Elm Haven East. I felt
my cell phone vibrate in my pocket, instead of looking to see who it was from I finished doing
what I need to do in order to help this lady into bed. When I was done I finally looked at my
phone to see why it had vibrated. Much to my surprise my boyfriend Tate had texted me, asking
if I wanted to come over after work to open Christmas presents with him and his mom Penny.
Happy now that I would actually get to see him before Christmas I eagerly replied, Yes, I would
love too. See you after work . I finished up work before clocking out. As I punched my time card I
smiled with joy, knowing shortly Tate would be opening his present I was so proud I had
bought. I stepped out side to walk to my car, I saw a white cloud coming out of my mouth as I
breathed from the cold, crisp air. I pulled into his drive way nervous to walk inside. I walked
inside, my hands full of presents. I started through the house to the living room. Penny couldn t
help but have a huge smile on her face which made me even more nervous. Penny never smiled
like that. Why was she smiling now? There I stood in the living room. Penny excitedly told Tate
to go get all the presents from them out from under the tree. While he was gone Penny asked me
Are you excited to open your presents? . The question made my palms sweaty, I hate surprises so
opening presents was defiantly my least favorite thing to do at Christmas time. Everyone staring at
you to see your reaction to the gifts they bought you, I hated that. Tate finally returned with handful
of presents and still hand to go back for more. I just thought to myself how many presents did they

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty Essay
Life isn t about finding yourself. It s about creating yourself. These great words were spoken by
George Bernard Shaw. The creating of a life is a huge part of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
written by James Thurber. Walter Mitty has a boring life, so he creates one in the most
destructive way. He dreams of great lives, making m more depressed every day, seeing what he
could have and what he does. The author of The Secret Life of Walter Mittyportrays a boring, dull
life by the contrast between dreams and real life. He makes Walter Mitty a man whose life is
unsatisfactory in his standards, who seems lost through this day, and who dreams his life is
fulfilling.
Walter Mitty s life does not give him the excitement he craves, as seen by the contrast between
his excitement filled dream life and his boring, dull real life. In Walter Mitty s dream of being a
doctor, the operating room was full of excitement. The new anesthetizer aiding in the procedure
malfunctioned and he had to fix it on the spot, while the most exciting thing in his life is
remembering to fetch doggy biscuits. While in his normal life Walter Mitty is a man with dullness

Conclusion
Overtime, the size of the cranium has changed. With that being the case, the size of the cranium
changed due to the better nutrition received. On a different note, the width of the pelvis changed.
Thus, the width of the pelvis changed due to a genus homo apos;s bipedality. Therefore, a genus

Essay on Media Portray of Environmental Issues
The way that media has portrayed environmental issues has changed radically in the past few
years. Environmental issues often aren`t considered newsworthy unless something large scale
occurs with a notable impact on everyday life. The BP oil spill in 2010 made front pages world
wide, there was a sudden push for the rescue of marine life and a general disgust for the condition
of the Gulf Coast. An outpouring of awareness came of this tragedy and mass mediadiligently
informed audiences of every detail as the following cleanup events unfolded. Most environmental
news is not front page material. The media gets the ultimate say in what is deemed as important.

Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a
story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source
must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled Testing Public Uncertainty of Science he
discusses how newspapers especially just don t have the manpower to go straight to the scientific
source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than
cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily
understood and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific
reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months
later they are back to the initial assumption.
Awareness does not necessarily lead to change. Just because an environmental issue is brought to
light doesn t mean its going to pull at everyone s` heart strings and convince them to act. News
affects everyone a little differently and some indicating factors include education level and interest
in local, national, and international news. (Schafer, 2010, pp. 11 65) A survey cited in an article
by Fredrick Saunders showed that in 2011, 70 percent of people who follow international news say
that global warming is a serious threat, compared to 35 percent of those surveyed who do not

Observational learning is when learning happens by observing other people s actions. Observational
learning involves cognitive processes such as attention, motor skills, motivation, and memory. For
observational learning to take place the person who is observing the behavior needs to be paying
attention to it in order to learn it. Another important part of observational learningis being able to
remember the behavior that you saw, so you can repeat it. As well as being able to remember the
behavior the person also needs to be able to perform the behavior for observational learning to

Health Poverty in Latin America
Section 1E Globally, maternal health is an issue that has not been given adequate attention in many
regions. Many women across the world are unable to avoid many preventable health consequences
of pregnancy, which are usually extreme enough to result in death. In the Latin American region,
Bolivia has some of the worst maternal health care systems, due to the underdevelopment of
healthcare practices, insufficient political and social concern, and a lack of public awareness.
Maternal deaths are attributable to risks caused by pregnancy and childbirth themselves, as well as
from the lack of proper, good quality health services (Khan, ... Show more content on

Giving women control over their fertility could, alone, reduce maternal deaths by up to 20 35% by
minimizing pregnancies to the number desired (Khan, K. et al., 2006).
Furthermore, educating the community about region wide healthcare issues, i.e. facility hygiene
methods and contraception practices, has not been a concern for the La Paz district, or for Bolivia
in general. In a sense, the primary causes of maternal mortality from unsafe abortion are not only
excessive bleeding or infection but, rather, a failure to recognize the severity of these
circumstances and the necessity for reform (Grimes, D. et al. 2006). The public deserves a more
direct access to healthcare facilities, principally in rural areas in which access to health care is
remarkably limited. Most of the clinics and hospitals (responsible for performing these abortions)
currently existing in Bolivia require additional financial support and substantial developments (
Child and Maternal.. 2014). The Bolivian government has neglected to fulfill its responsibility of
recognizing the fundamental right of its people to receiving adequate healthcare, and has not made
substantial improvements to instill safer abortion methods.

Besides abortion difficulties, there are a variety of medical complications that pregnant women are
at risk of having. Some of the most prevalent illnesses affecting child bearing

Elvis Losley s Influence
As Elvis Presley once said Truth is like the sun, you can shut it out for a time, but it ain t goin
away. This is one of the most famous quotes from history. Elvis is also known as the King of
Rock . This man made a huge positive influence on the film industry, his famous music, and his
talent in playing several instruments. Elvis made an impact on American citizens with his
movies, music, and instrument playing all throughout the 50 s and 60 s up until his death in
1977. Elvis started out as any other singer would and at the bottom. But soon rocketed up to the
top with his music, singing, and acting. With the famous film and song Jailhouse Rock this
made him on of the most famous people of his time. He starred in several films such as Flaming
Star, Viva Las Vegas, and Tickle Me. This made him a star all around after films were made with
the King of Rock starring in them. Elvis also had some inspiring quotes that I even use myself
sometimes. One of my favorite Elvis quotes is Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine. ... Show more

Carl Jung s Theory Of Collective Unconscious

Essay 3 For my last and final essay of this semester I chose to answer questions number five, six
and seven. I simply chose these series of questions due to the fact that I ve had all of the Freud I
could possibly take for one semester. All the questions I ve selected are involving Carl Jungand not
Sigmund Freud. To begin with my essay let s start with question number five which asks to explain
Jung s notion of collective unconscious . I very strongly believe that Jung s concept of collective
unconscious is mainly based on his personal experiences with people who suffer from
schizophrenia which he gained form when he worked with them at the Burgholzli hospital. At first
Jung chose to follow the Freudian theory of unconscious, but later on Jung eventually chose to go
down his own path and decided to develop his own theory on unconscious which would feature
totally new concepts. Most importantly being the archetype. Archetypes constitute the structure of
the collective unconscious, which are the psychic innate dispositions to experience and represent
the basic human behavior and situations. For example, Mother and child relationship which is
mainly governed by the mother archetype. The Father and child relationship is mainly governed by
the Father archetype. Birth, death, power and failure are controlled by archetypes.

The GICS is a way of clarifying companies into sections, this code is used worldwide. This sector
of the ASX (Consumer Discretionary) has performed fairly well over the last twelve months
with a slight upward trend (ASX 2017). A reason for the rise in the sectors points in mid July
(graph 4) is because of the confidence gained after the generally good profits across the board in
this sector. With these good results the confidence in the market increases which in turn sees share
prices rise. The major reason for the downward trend in October (graph 4) is because of the
apprehension people were feeling about the future with recent events such as brexit and the rise of

Facts On Cocaine Essay
Cocaine is a powerful central nervous system (CNS) stimulant that heightens alertness, inhibits
appetite and the need for sleep, and provides intense feelings of pleasure. It is prepared from the
leaf of the Erythroxylon coca bush, which grows primarily in Peru and Bolivia.
Street dealers dilute it with inert (non psychoactive) but similar looking substances such as
cornstarch, talcum powder, and sugar, or with active drugs such as procaine and benzocaine (used
as local anesthetics), or other CNS stimulants such as amphetamines. Nevertheless, illicit cocaine
has actually become purer over the years; according to RCMP figures, in 1988 its purity averaged
about 75%.

A gram of powder cocaine may cost between $20 $100, while crack rocks can be found for as little
as $5 10 each.
Powder cocaine is processed with many volatile solvents, such as kerosene, benzene, and gasoline,
and these poisons can remain in the cocaine found on the street. In addition, dealers on the street
may cut or combine the cocaine with other substances, like talcum powder, amphetamines,
anesthetics, and other substances that may bring the purity down and cause unwanted side effects.
Cocaine use can cause dilated pupils, nausea, headaches, sweating, increased heart rate, elevated
blood pressure, insomnia, loss of appetite, and seizures. Cocaine speeds up the heart by stimulating
the same nerves that cause fear causing the heart to beat erratically or stop.
Cocaine also shrinks the peripheral blood vessels and places extra pressure on the heart and
circulatory system. These effects can lead to heart attacks, strokes, brain seizures, cardiac arrest,
and respiratory failure in otherwise healthy people. New and chronic users can die suddenly. In
Texas, 200 300 cocaine overdose deaths due to cocaine use have been reported each year.
Chronic use of cocaine can

Analysis Of The Film The Scarecrow
In the Chipotle s three minute animated commercial The Scarecrow , created by Moonbot
Studios, viewers follow the perspective of a personified scarecrow character in a lively
industrialized city. Published on September 11, 2013, it has since garnered over 17 million views
on YouTube. While the scarecrow is not human, he is dressed as a farmer, employed under Crow
Foods a foodcorporation repairing the food factory buildings. As the audience follows the farmer,
he is accompanied by a mechanical crow, which accompanies every employee of the Crow Foods
industry (The Scarecrow0:26). Even as he works, however, he repeatedly encounters examples of
city food production, where he sees confined animals and harsh industry conditions (The... Show

In an ironic twist, the scarecrows in the film are displaced from their normal role of protecting
food, and are instead ruled by the crows themselves through Crow Foods. The audience first sees a
glimpse of this interaction in the beginning, where there is a picture of a limp but exceptionally
happy scarecrow holding out his arms to support three crows, the ironic opposite of defending
against them as they usually would. In fact, this image is the first scene of the entire film,
emphasizing the irony of the picture itself and setting viewers up for the fact that the normal is
abnormal throughout the film, even if not readily apparent.
In looking at international efforts in preventing corruption, there is a similar situation where not all
corruption is deemed against the law , where corruption may go unnoticed because of the lack of
effort taken in preventing it. Antonio ArgandoГ±a, a professor emeritus of Economics and
Business Ethics, examines the UN s Convention Against Corruption, pointing out that there was no
obligation to make [small time corruption] in the private sector a criminal offence , especially
when the line between private and public sector is blurred , as in many countries (490).
Interestingly, Wolfgang Hetzer, general of the European Anti Fraud Office (OLAF), claims that this
silent corruption is no longer the case, stating that It is no longer correct to say that corrupt
practices are gradually

Summary Of The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin
we can make America what America must become Making America what Baldwin knows it must
become is an epically daunting task. One, in the opinion of Baldwin, cannot be concluded
/COMPLEATED through passive acceptance and gradual change, but rather active ideological
growth. In James Baldwin s The Fire Next Time , a strategy of regrowth is laid out. The entire
history of passed judgments of blacks must be altered by the revision of the white man s self and
self outlook. Baldwin s opening letter, My Dungeon Shook , is poetic, and emotional. Which one
could expect from a talented young minister whose primary goal is to reach the consciences of
entire communities through the power of speech. Baldwin does indeed have a way with words,
metaphor, and persuasive language. The first, most striking point Baldwin presents concerns the
moral ignorance of mankind, particularly the white race. Baldwin states,... Show more content on

Particularly in Baldwin s second essay Down at the Cross , he touches on the human condition s
struggle with confidence. As a people, we rely on past experiences to lead us forward. We tend
to stay on trend, particularly with controversial subject matter. To not much surprise, the white
race has followed this algorithm of hate and discrimination, for it is much easier to do so than to
be disputatious. The white race is essentially a frightened young child, capable only of parroting
their mothers and fathers and reserving their own convictions in fear of judgement. The white
race has no confidence, no love for themselves. Perhaps they are ashamed of their fear to speak
their minds. However, when the white race learns to love themselves, the Negro problem will no
longer exist, for it will no longer be needed (22). Whites will no longer need a scapegoat; their
juvenile hectoring will cease to provide the grotesque satisfaction that it has for

Trotsky and Stalin Essay
Trotsky and Stalin
I think that without Trotsky s contribution to the revolution it wouldn t of been a success I think
this because Trotsky was put in charge of organising the revolution by Lenin and this might show
that Lenin believed that Trotsky could do great things and this also means Lenin must of trust
Trotsky as he picked him very carefully. I also think as this was a vital job Lenin must of thought
that Trotsky was the best man for the job. Trotsky also had organised the Bolsheviks in Petrograd.
He did this because it was the capital city and it was very important to take control of the strongest
part first this showed Lenin that Trotsky was very clever.
Before the revolution Trotsky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trotsky played a vital part in the revolution and his sneaky plans worked and he had everything
planned secretly from everyone.
B
I think the reason that Stalin and not Trotsky emerged as Lenin s successor because Stalin was a
strong Bolshevik believer from the beginning unlike Trotsky who was a bit of a glory supporter
and only came onto the Bolsheviks side when he knew that there was going to be a revolution
happening in 1917 that he could be a part of. I think that if Stalin didn t know that a revolution
could take place then he would of stayed a Menshevik supporter. Stalin also thought that if they
started the revolution in one country (Russia) then they could get power in that country and then
the army would have to join the Bolsheviks making it bigger to take over one country one by
one. Whereas Trotsky believed that they should take over a few countries at once this was a very
silly idea as they would not be able to pull it off as they were not quite big enough to do this and
Lenin saw this.
Stalin was a very hard worker from the beginning to the finish and he was a very healthy man
around the time that Lenin died whereas Trotsky was a sick man and he also still had that glory
supporter nametag. Stalin was a very sneaky person he knew what he needed to do and he did well
and truly when Trotsky

The Internal Conflict Of Man And Self
Stories have been written regarding the internal conflict of man and self. Within this conflict, man
struggles with his own moral compass or natural character flaws. This conflict leaves man with
many questions including questions concerning immortality and life in general. In the novel
Frankenstein, Mary Shelley writes about the revolving conflicts between the two characters, Victor
Frankensteinand his monster. Victor and his monster s motives are parallel throughout the novel.
Both characters begin searching for an identity, Victor for fame through science and the monster
trying to find his role in society. Genesis 1:27 from the New King James Version of the Bible
states, So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female
He created them (The Holy Bible). Religion teaches that man was created to be a likeness to God
and not a more perfect being. In his essay, Jean Jacques Rousseau stated, Everything is good as it
leaves the hands of the Author of things; everything degenerates in the hands of man (Rousseau
205). Rousseau explains in his document, that there is a natural goodness in man that can be
nurtured and maintained, but man can be easily corrupted. The novel Frankenstein, deals with the
divisions between Victor Frankenstein and the monster that he creates. Their struggles illustrate the
haunting similarities between the creator and the created. Rousseau and Shelley both write about
the conflicts that man faces throughout

  • 2. Richard Rorty Richard Rorty: starts his essay describing incredible brutality done by the hands of one group of people (Serbs) to another (Muslims). The writer then elaborates on the logic behind such action as he introduces the concept of human rights in the essay. He state that the actions done by the Serbs in Bosnia to the Muslims are not a violation of humanrights. For the acts committed against Muslims such as murder and rape weren t committed against fellow human beings but to Muslims. They are not being inhuman, but rather are discriminating between humans and the pseudo humans. Rorty then begins a brief explanation of pragmatism as it relates to the human rights culture. He states that our human right culture is morally superior to other cultures, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Bhagavad Gita, describes a literal conflict between Arjuna s family, but many also read it to include the internal conflict within the human consciousness. Arjuana faces such a large conflict, because his path to peace, both internal and external, is more conflict. In my opinion, the best way to achieve peace, both inner and external, is non action. This sentiment is best expressed by the teachings surrounding Wu Wei in the Tao Te Chingand the mindful trainings of Thich Naht Hanh in Interbeing. Hanh s suggestions seem to surround the opportunities that non action, as advised by Lao Tzu, will open up for an individual look to lead a more mindful and open life. In the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu explains through the principles of Wu Wei that the most effective path to peace is non action. President Obama addressed the people of the state of Connecticut and on a federal level. The broadcasting networks provided live coverage of President Obama s speech, and a national audience listened as the president s addressing the issues and the next steps forward for the country. It is interesting to see and reveal the misconceptions of President Obama s motive to the speech for more gun control and how politicians and individuals are stressing an emotional and safety concern. Within this political environment, and with a charismatic and persuasive use of the pentads, the rhetor s motive was to implement legislation regarding gun control. Barack Obama as the rhetor, directed towards American people to pressure congress to pass new gun legislation in Connecticut, where the massacre took place. After the December 16, 2012 shooting at Newtown Connecticut, there has been a controversial debate among gun control. The National Rifle Association had fiercely lobbied congress to oppose any gun regulations. In this artifact, Obama spoke on behalf of the murders of twenty children and six adults killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. During his speech, President Obama was hoping to build support among lawmakers for several gun control measures, such as universal background checks. Those experts say that the common cores are not developmentally appropriate for students; and so as the American federation of teacher s president s Randi Weingarten, which also called for revamping of these early educationstandards. Weingarten called the early childhoodexpert Nancy Carlsson for the Defending the Early Years. Defending the Early Years, a non profit project of the Survival Education Fund, was created to help students, parents, and teacher understand why the common care states standards are not inappropriate for kid, third grade. The document also helped teachers and parents advocate against Common Core State Standards CCSS, and promote rules and in class practices that can best help meet children s needs. The six reason to reject common core state standards from k to 3rd are: one, many k to 3rd grade CCSS are not based on developmental knowledge of young children learning. The CCSS was made to develop what is required at high school to the early year, but it had led to many mismatches. The CCSS lists facts and knowledge that don t match how young children develop, think, or learn. Another mismatch is that the CCSS requires young children to learn facts that they are not ready for. It also led teachers teach didactic instruction instead of the experiential, play based activities, and learning young children need. The second reason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The powerful effect that psychoactive drugs have on the brain is caused by the chemicals in these substances that can replicate the chemicals found in the brain. These chemicals are designed to be able to imitate the functions of chemicals in the brain; they act primarily in the central nervous system affecting the neurons in the brain. There is an interruption in communication of neurons which affects our bodies in different ways; some can stimulate activity in the CNS, while others can depress and decrease the activity. There are many different types of drugs that can change the brain chemistry in this way, two of these are narcotics and stimulants. In his head he was revising the letter to Kiowa s father. Impersonal this time (176). Though the impersonalization of his thoughts seems like a negative quality, it actually shows improvement. • 11. The Bloody Chamber By Angela Carter Loneliness is a complex and usually an unpleasant emotional response to isolation as well as separation; it is a product of the lack of contact experienced with another individual. Moreover, it includes anxious feelings due to the absence of connection or communication with other beings, both in the present and extending into the future. Some describe it as emptiness or hollowness inside of one s being. In the narrative The Bloody Chamber (1979), Angela Carter s characters deal with the emotionof loneliness by taking action and intervening through any circumstances. In contrast, in Zadie Smith s Hanwell in Hell (2004) the main characters Clive and Hanwell deal with loneliness simply through hope. While over twenty years apart, these two narratives explore how an individual deals with the notion of loneliness through the use of the colour red, the symbolism in animals, and the condition of blindness. However, Carter illustrates the refusal of the protagonistto simply accept any circumstances; but the interference in any situation. On the other hand, Smith demonstrates the acceptance and balance of the existing situation at hand through hope. Writers and poets use colors to represent concrete images of their characters, scenes and events. Language itself uses a system of symbols, either verbal or written, which enables colors to have a deeper meaning. Symbolism in literature demonstrates a profound meaning to words which in turn helps transform the written content into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think another factor of the spiral of silence principle is that people do not want to speak about it because of the fear of the public opinion. I think people are reluctant to talk about things that may have happened in the past due to the fear of being judged or people simply not caring. They are masculine females able to pose a challenge to all patriarchal norms. Both these novels provide Carter opportunities to redefine masculinity. She succeeds in crediting her female protagonists with strong degree of autonomy and in making her male protagonists convincingly drawn human beings. He is involved in a torrid love affair with the black prostitute Leilah. But he is duly punished by the feminists. He is captured by band feminist guerilla fighters who deliver him up to their leader mother, a parodic portrait of matriarchal superwoman (Contemporary Women s Fiction 18). Still, he defied them all, and many times alone. He had to rely only on himself. Luckily, Bilbo was also very clever. He was able to have Gollum show him the way out of the Goblin cave while avoiding him instantaneously. Also, when the dwarves were imprisoned by the wood elves, Bilbo created a plan that lead to their escape. If it were not for his masterful ideas, then the dwarves may have rotted in prison. This complex yet innovative machine allowed companies such as newspapers to educate the masses in a rapid manner. By the twentieth century, many countries were using the new typesettingmachine to educate its own people in a fast and coast efficient manner. The Linotype machine was invented by Ottmar Mergenthaler. Mergenthaler was a German watchmaker who migrated to America in early 1870 s. While Mergenthaler was still in his twenties he moved to Baltimore where he began to work on machines that were used in print production. These machines were structured to preform typewriting and lithography functions. Mergenthaler began to envision a machine that could produce multiple castings of type. During this period there were many inventors working on typesetting innovations. Ottmar not only wanted his machine to produce cast type, but he wanted it to produce type in lines of text at the same time. He also wanted the machine to stamp out matrices and cast the metal as well. To accomplish his goal, Mergenthaler went through a lot of trial and error. Many of these distinctions are apparent in the classroom setting and at times can prove challenging for a teacher. Some students may learn the lessons very quickly while others may take extra time and may need out of class help. Two of the most common learning disabilities are ADHD and hyperactivity. For students who are inattentive it is important to put specific topics in a checklist style and perhaps on a printout or in worksheet form so they can go through the topics at home. Doing worksheets at outside of class or even just alone may help them pay attention. Also, for the students who tend to watch the clock it may be beneficial to begin the lesson with a checklist of all that will be covered in class that day. That way, they can mentally check off the topics instead of count down the minutes until class is over. Some good strategies to use with children who are impulsive include giving immediate feedback for their behavior, especially positive reinforcement. (McAllister 2012) Also, for these students it may be necessary to post behavior rules or guidelines somewhere in the classroom. Some of these methods appear to be somewhat elementary so to alter them to fit a high school setting, I would have the students come up with their own rules to give them a sense of responsibility. The Patent Act made patents last for fourteen years and gave inventors exclusive rights to their invention. There was no possibility of extending this time. Many inventors argued that this was unsatisfactory and that since inventions could take many years to initially be commercialized they did not have much time to make use of their patent. Another key point in the act was that foreigners were not allowed to apply for patents. The Secretary of State, the Secretary of War, and the Attorney General were the only three people initially given power to approve or reject patents. Patents were examined by these three to ensure applications met the given criteria but this process was criticized as taking an unreasonable amount of time to complete. It could take months before a patent was sufficiently examined. 2.3 Patent Reform There have been a multitude of times in history where patent laws have been either updated or thrown out. • 41. Essay on Media Portray of Environmental Issues The way that media has portrayed environmental issues has changed radically in the past few years. Environmental issues often aren`t considered newsworthy unless something large scale occurs with a notable impact on everyday life. The BP oil spill in 2010 made front pages world wide, there was a sudden push for the rescue of marine life and a general disgust for the condition of the Gulf Coast. An outpouring of awareness came of this tragedy and mass mediadiligently informed audiences of every detail as the following cleanup events unfolded. Most environmental news is not front page material. The media gets the ultimate say in what is deemed as important. Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled Testing Public Uncertainty of Science he discusses how newspapers especially just don t have the manpower to go straight to the scientific source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily understood and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months later they are back to the initial assumption. Awareness does not necessarily lead to change. Just because an environmental issue is brought to light doesn t mean its going to pull at everyone s` heart strings and convince them to act. News affects everyone a little differently and some indicating factors include education level and interest in local, national, and international news. (Schafer, 2010, pp. 11 65) A survey cited in an article by Fredrick Saunders showed that in 2011, 70 percent of people who follow international news say that global warming is a serious threat, compared to 35 percent of those surveyed who do not ... Observational learning involves cognitive processes such as attention, motor skills, motivation, and memory. For observational learning to take place the person who is observing the behavior needs to be paying attention to it in order to learn it. Another important part of observational learningis being able to remember the behavior that you saw, so you can repeat it. As well as being able to remember the behavior the person also needs to be able to perform the behavior for observational learning to occur. • 43. Health And Poverty Of Latin America Maternal Health in Bolivia Stephanie Spencer Fall 2014 Health Poverty in Latin America Section 1E Globally, maternal health is an issue that has not been given adequate attention in many regions. Many women across the world are unable to avoid many preventable health consequences of pregnancy, which are usually extreme enough to result in death. In the Latin American region, Bolivia has some of the worst maternal health care systems, due to the underdevelopment of healthcare practices, insufficient political and social concern, and a lack of public awareness. Maternal deaths are attributable to risks caused by pregnancy and childbirth themselves, as well as from the lack of proper, good quality health services (Khan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Giving women control over their fertility could, alone, reduce maternal deaths by up to 20 35% by minimizing pregnancies to the number desired (Khan, K. et al., 2006). Furthermore, educating the community about region wide healthcare issues, i.e. facility hygiene methods and contraception practices, has not been a concern for the La Paz district, or for Bolivia in general. In a sense, the primary causes of maternal mortality from unsafe abortion are not only excessive bleeding or infection but, rather, a failure to recognize the severity of these circumstances and the necessity for reform (Grimes, D. et al. 2006). The public deserves a more direct access to healthcare facilities, principally in rural areas in which access to health care is remarkably limited. Most of the clinics and hospitals (responsible for performing these abortions) currently existing in Bolivia require additional financial support and substantial developments ( Child and Maternal.. 2014). The Bolivian government has neglected to fulfill its responsibility of recognizing the fundamental right of its people to receiving adequate healthcare, and has not made substantial improvements to instill safer abortion methods. Hypertension Besides abortion difficulties, there are a variety of medical complications that pregnant women are at risk of having. Some of the most prevalent illnesses affecting child bearing ... Carl Jung s Theory Of Collective Unconscious Villa 1 Jesus Villa Professor Carrera World Class Literature 4351 09 December 2015 Essay 3 For my last and final essay of this semester I chose to answer questions number five, six and seven. I simply chose these series of questions due to the fact that I ve had all of the Freud I could possibly take for one semester. All the questions I ve selected are involving Carl Jungand not Sigmund Freud. To begin with my essay let s start with question number five which asks to explain Jung s notion of collective unconscious . I very strongly believe that Jung s concept of collective unconscious is mainly based on his personal experiences with people who suffer from schizophrenia which he gained form when he worked with them at the Burgholzli hospital. At first Jung chose to follow the Freudian theory of unconscious, but later on Jung eventually chose to go down his own path and decided to develop his own theory on unconscious which would feature totally new concepts. Most importantly being the archetype. Archetypes constitute the structure of the collective unconscious, which are the psychic innate dispositions to experience and represent the basic human behavior and situations. For example, Mother and child relationship which is mainly governed by the mother archetype. The Father and child relationship is mainly governed by the Father archetype. Facts On Cocaine Essay Cocaine is a powerful central nervous system (CNS) stimulant that heightens alertness, inhibits appetite and the need for sleep, and provides intense feelings of pleasure. It is prepared from the leaf of the Erythroxylon coca bush, which grows primarily in Peru and Bolivia. Street dealers dilute it with inert (non psychoactive) but similar looking substances such as cornstarch, talcum powder, and sugar, or with active drugs such as procaine and benzocaine (used as local anesthetics), or other CNS stimulants such as amphetamines. Nevertheless, illicit cocaine has actually become purer over the years; according to RCMP figures, in 1988 its purity averaged about 75%. In addition, dealers on the street may cut or combine the cocaine with other substances, like talcum powder, amphetamines, anesthetics, and other substances that may bring the purity down and cause unwanted side effects. Cocaine use can cause dilated pupils, nausea, headaches, sweating, increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, insomnia, loss of appetite, and seizures. Cocaine speeds up the heart by stimulating the same nerves that cause fear causing the heart to beat erratically or stop. Cocaine also shrinks the peripheral blood vessels and places extra pressure on the heart and circulatory system. These effects can lead to heart attacks, strokes, brain seizures, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure in otherwise healthy people. New and chronic users can die suddenly. In an ironic twist, the scarecrows in the film are displaced from their normal role of protecting food, and are instead ruled by the crows themselves through Crow Foods. The audience first sees a glimpse of this interaction in the beginning, where there is a picture of a limp but exceptionally happy scarecrow holding out his arms to support three crows, the ironic opposite of defending against them as they usually would. In fact, this image is the first scene of the entire film, emphasizing the irony of the picture itself and setting viewers up for the fact that the normal is abnormal throughout the film, even if not readily apparent. One, in the opinion of Baldwin, cannot be concluded /COMPLEATED through passive acceptance and gradual change, but rather active ideological growth. In James Baldwin s The Fire Next Time , a strategy of regrowth is laid out. The entire history of passed judgments of blacks must be altered by the revision of the white man s self and self outlook. Which one could expect from a talented young minister whose primary goal is to reach the consciences of entire communities through the power of speech. The white race is essentially a frightened young child, capable only of parroting their mothers and fathers and reserving their own convictions in fear of judgement. The white race has no confidence, no love for themselves. Perhaps they are ashamed of their fear to speak their minds. Trotsky and Stalin Essay Trotsky and Stalin I think that without Trotsky s contribution to the revolution it wouldn t of been a success I think this because Trotsky was put in charge of organising the revolution by Lenin and this might show that Lenin believed that Trotsky could do great things and this also means Lenin must of trust Trotsky as he picked him very carefully. I also think as this was a vital job Lenin must of thought that Trotsky was the best man for the job. Trotsky also had organised the Bolsheviks in Petrograd. He did this because it was the capital city and it was very important to take control of the strongest part first this showed Lenin that Trotsky was very clever. Before the revolution Trotsky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trotsky played a vital part in the revolution and his sneaky plans worked and he had everything planned secretly from everyone. B I think the reason that Stalin and not Trotsky emerged as Lenin s successor because Stalin was a strong Bolshevik believer from the beginning unlike Trotsky who was a bit of a glory supporter and only came onto the Bolsheviks side when he knew that there was going to be a revolution happening in 1917 that he could be a part of. I think that if Stalin didn t know that a revolution could take place then he would of stayed a Menshevik supporter. Stalin also thought that if they started the revolution in one country (Russia) then they could get power in that country and then the army would have to join the Bolsheviks making it bigger to take over one country one by one. Whereas Trotsky believed that they should take over a few countries at once this was a very silly idea as they would not be able to pull it off as they were not quite big enough to do this and Lenin saw this. Stalin was a very hard worker from the beginning to the finish and he was a very healthy man around the time that Lenin died whereas Trotsky was a sick man and he also still had that glory supporter nametag. • 51. The Internal Conflict Of Man And Self Stories have been written regarding the internal conflict of man and self. Within this conflict, man struggles with his own moral compass or natural character flaws. This conflict leaves man with many questions including questions concerning immortality and life in general. In the novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley writes about the revolving conflicts between the two characters, Victor Frankensteinand his monster. Victor and his monster s motives are parallel throughout the novel. Both characters begin searching for an identity, Victor for fame through science and the monster trying to find his role in society. Genesis 1:27 from the New King James Version of the Bible states, So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (The Holy Bible). Religion teaches that man was created to be a likeness to God and not a more perfect being. In his essay, Jean Jacques Rousseau stated, Everything is good as it leaves the hands of the Author of things; everything degenerates in the hands of man (Rousseau 205). Rousseau explains in his document, that there is a natural goodness in man that can be nurtured and maintained, but man can be easily corrupted. The novel Frankenstein, deals with the divisions between Victor Frankenstein and the monster that he creates. Their struggles illustrate the haunting similarities between the creator and the created.
